ITunes Not launching at all

I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes a couple weeks ago and since then I haven't been able to launch iTunes at all. It looks like it's starting but nothing happens. I check my task manager and it's there and I can't end the process either without restarting my computer again.
I haven't been able to view my podcasts for a couple weeks now and I want to view and update soon.

  • Itunes not launch

I am noticing that for the last 2 days iTunes on my Win 7 desktop does not open after it has been opened and closed once.  I have to reboot my machine to get it to work.  I uninstalled and reinstalled ituness but my issue persists.  Has anyone else faced this issue?

    Hello Stafz
Check out the article below to troubleshoot your issue with iTunes not launching properly on your computer. Try starting up in Safe Mode to see if it launches then.

  • I get a crash notice. Firefox will not launch at all -- it keeps giving crash notice. I also cannot generate a crash report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled -- same issue. It does not launch.

Firefox crashed this morning. It will not launch even after being uninstalled and reinstalled. All I can get is a crash box. It will not relaunch in any way

This sounds the same as my issue. I was browsing in Firefox v6.0 last night and all of a sudden it closed with no notice or error message. When I tried to open FF I received the messaga; We're Sorry - Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts." I does not restart. I have been using IE to browse for a solution and nothing works other than opening as administrator. Now this problem is only on one of my laptops and is fine on my desktop and other laptops so it appears to be something specific to my laptop which is running Window XP Home and Service Pack 3.
Some suggestions were to change the profile (did not work), end the firefox.exe process in task manager (not running in processes) and delete an xpicleanup.exe (not listed).
The only thing that works is to run as administrator but I have to do this everytime. Is ther a solution?

I don't know why, but iTunes will not open at all. When I click on the icon in the dock, it will bounce for a few seconds and then an error message will pop up saying that iTunes quit unexpectedly.
Why is this happening? I restarted several times but I'm still getting the same thing. Please help!

  • My itunes not opening at all

My itunes is not opening at all. As a result I can not communicate with my ipod. My Windows Media Player is running well and all the other programs on my computer are fine. If I try to open it, it says 'itunes has encountered a problem and is closing'. It will not even show a fragment of the itunes page. If I try to open Quick time , it says 'an exception occured while trying to run shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL'. I have tried to uninstal itunes or re-instal it and it refuse after going 70% of the way. Also Quick Time refuses to unistal.

    Hope

hmmm...i see a few potential problems. First, Try downloading the Quicktime standalone player and prior to do this, TURN OFF your Antivirus and Spyware programs. Find the Quicktime Standalone player here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If this just randomly happened one day where iTunes would not just open up, its very possible your PC has been infested by the Qoologic adware program that causes this errorless crash of iTunes. There is a free program that has been catching it. Find it here: http://www.ewido.net/en/

  • Itunes not opening at all help

Recently I upgraded to a full edition of windows 7. My friend suggested that I do a fresh install so I partitioned part of my hard drive off to a separate drive so that I could install my new OS. My Itunes as well as all of my music is sitting over on the other drive. When I tried to pull Itunes over onto my new drive It gives me an error stating that Apple application support was not found and suggests that I reinstall itunes to get it to work properly. The only problem is I do not want to lose my entire song list. I have many songs that I have gotten (all legally) through places like amazon.com and I am afaid that i will lose all of my songs if I reinstall Itunes.
I have them all on my Ipod but I do not know a way for you to take your itunes songs from your Ipod to your computer. I understand that this is to prevent piracy and can even respect that but consider I obtained all of this music through legal means it really makes it a pain for me. On top of that there are a coupld songs that were given to me by a friend of mine who is in a band that can simply not be replaced if I have to start all over again.
    Someone please help me. Thanks!

You can try a 3rd-party ipod manager. Make sure to get one that supports your model ipod. Here is a page to start your research:

    Hello.
My iTunes doesnt work at all. When I click on iTunes, it doesnt open or anything. I have uninstalled it and then re-installed it many times, it didnt work. Because of my iTunes not working, i had no choice but to put my songs on manually using Rockbox [an alternative fw]..
And now i really need help, cause it is really annoying to put my songs on manually!
    Help?
BTW i have norton installed, is that why it may not be working?

FYI, there's an iTunes forum where you may have
better luck. You can try posting over there
Anyway, I'm not really sure. Does it show up in the
task manager? Is there an iTuneshelper.exe process?
    Tom

  • ITunes not launching, if re-install will I lose playlists???

I just downloaded the new version of iTunes off of Apple.com. Like most people I get the hourglass for a hot sec, then it disappears. QuickTime works fine. When I look in task mgr, I only see iTuneshelper. If I re-install iTunes will I lose all my songs and playlists that I have from the old version on iTunes? Please help. Thanks!

    mrsthomas,
If I re-install iTunes will I lose all my songs and playlists that I have from the old version on iTunes?
Default settings place the iTunes folder (which contains the iTunes Music , Album Artwork and Previous iTunes Libraries folders along with the iTunes Library files ) at C:\Documents and Settings\ user name \My Documents\My Music\iTunes - far away from the iTunes program itself which is located at C:\Program Files\iTunes .
Although iTunes certainly makes use of the contents of the iTunes folder - among other things the library files tell iTunes where to find the song files which is, of course, necessary if iTunes is going to play any music or transfer it to your iPod - the folder is not actually a part of the program so uninstalling or upgrading iTunes should have no effect at all on the contents of the iTunes folder ...
    ... but ...
... one of the funny things about computers is that sometime, somehow, somewhere when you least expect it , they can do some not so funny things, like unexpectedly losing data when they're not supposed to. Which is why it's a good idea to have a back up copy in reserve of any data (such as your music files) that you value ... just in case.
There are a variety of ways of doing so but for most people it probably comes down to one of two options.
The one this article in the Apple Knowledge Base describes in detail uses iTunes 7 to burn a back-up copy of the contents of your iTunes Library and the Library files - but not the Album Artwork or Previous iTunes Libraries folders - to CD's/DVD's.
The other main method for creating your back-up is to save a copy of the iTunes folder on a separate hard drive. Some of our Discussions regulars are quite fond of that approach .
If, when and how you choose to back-up your music is your decision to make - just bear in mind that as far as I know we've never had anyone post in these discussions who's regretted creating a back-up copy of their iTunes Library.
But we often hear from people who regret not having done so.
    P.S.
If you have other data besides your iTunes Library that you want to back up, have a look at this article on the PC World web site.

  • Safari 2.+ will not launch at all under X.43

Since upgrading to X.43 none of the Safari 2.+ versions will launch at all. The older 1.+ versions will however. I have tossed the pref's and have no Safari "helpers" installed. I had a similar problem under Panther with the earlier Safari apps. Would not launch. Some nice soul here recommended something be tossed but unfortunately I don't remember just what it was. At that time I was also having a problem with Limewire not launching...that does work fine now however. I tried running the combined updates again but nothing changed. Any ideas? TIA!

    hey, hey,
can you indicate what you have tried tossing, other than the prefs? also, how many versions of safari do you have installed on osx.4.3?
if just the one, try opening /applications/utilities/terminal.app and entering:
    mv ~/library/safari/* ~/desktop
    ibook g4     OSX.4.x

  • Issues with Itunes not launching (Windows 7)

i have most current versions of itunes and quicktime (Ive read quicktime needs to be updated for itunes to work properly. ive deleted and re-downloaded both programs several times. Someone told me to check the Processes tab from the task manager and see what shows up when itunes is launched. It shows "itunes exe *32." So.... now what?

No don't remove Quick.ime, that has nothing to do with Apple.
So now QUicktime launches. Other software particularly some codec packs install unwanted Quicktime components that can mess up Quicktime.
Now Quicktime launches, and you check that it is the latest version. An out of date Quicktime can cause iTunes launch failure.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Could you also recheck the task manager, if iTunes.exe is still running try killing the proces or restart your PC.
If not, does iTunes still persist in the task manager when you try to start iTunes?
Double checking, do you get any kind of error message from iTunes if so, post it in full.
It might also be worth looking in the Event viewer to see if there is any error mentioning iTunes in the Application log.
If you find one double click on it and copy the result into your post. Using the copy button.

  • IPhoto '11 does not launch AT ALL

I've tried fixing permissions, using BatChmod, deleting the appropriate .plist files, reloading the software (and the software upgrade again), and iPhoto '11 does not launch. It shows up under 'Force Quit Applications' but does not show up anywhere else.
I had no problems using iPhoto '09.
Now I've only been using Macs for 18 years, but I have to say this is one of the worst Mac software experiences I've encountered.
Are there any plans to fix this program?

Some users had good luck by removing any 3rd Party QuikTime Plugins. Apparently there is a compatibility issue.

  • Itunes will not launch at all

For a few weeks I've been having a problem with iTunes taking a long time to open, and sometimes not opening when I plug in the phone.  Last week I realized  just stopped opening at all - even by double clicking on the itunes exe file in Control Panel.   When I plug in my iPhone 4S to the USB, iTunes also does not open, but I can see the phone in Windows Explorer.  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a Dell laptop, and iTunes is 10.6.3.25.  I do not use wifi to synch the phone.
I searched online and at first thought it was due to a Google Chrome flash plug-in problem because Chrome had started failing to load some pages and sometimes iTunes would eventually open if Chrome was restarted.   I reinstalled Chrome, and finally just uninstalled Google Chrome, but that's made no difference.  I uninstalled Bonjour as some folks had problems from that.
I have already tried to identify if some service is trying to run by looking at the msconfig and trying to turn off things on the Startup and turn off Services, but even with everything but Windows services turned off, iTunes still will not ever open.
I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and Quicktime at least 5 times over the last few days.  I used revouninstaller to do the last two un-installs as a friend said it cleans more thoroughly.   I just read here to try renaming the APSDaemon so it won't run, and just did that change, but after rebooting still no luck.  Quicktime will run, but it takes about 1-2 minutes before it opens after double-clicking on it.
At this point I don't know what else to try.  All suggestions greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks.  I read that link before posting here but I wasn't able to do the first part because iTunes will not ever open for me to start it in Safe mode.
Since I posted yesterday, "something" I did must have worked (but I don't know what exactly because I think I didn't do anything).  But iTunes just randomly appeared on the system tray yesterday afternoon.  It wouldn't open by clicking on it, so I tried to Ctl-Alt-Del to close it, thinking I'd at least get some errors to view in the log, but then about a half hour after  I had tried to close it through Ctl-Alt-Del, it actually opened.  It still doesn't recognize my iPhone 4S though.  If I get that to start working I'll update again.

  • ITunes not launching because of newer version?

Since yesterday I have been unable to launch iTunes. I clicked on the icon on my desktop and it started to do what looked like an update. When it finished it left this message 'The file "iTunes Library itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes'.
I would really like some feedback on this, because I've looked all over this forum and can't find anybody with the same problems. I have searched Apples problem solving pages and can't find the answer.

By way of experiment, try downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that install go through okay? If not, let us know what error message you get. (Precise text, please.)
If the install does go through okay, try launching iTunes again. Does it launch without the error message this time?
