I also have a problem with opening iTunes 7.4.3 - with the same error message "iTunes encountered a problem and has to close" - the error message for quicktime is "Buffer Overrun detected!" and something about a corrupted state.
I've uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled - and downloaded earlier versions.
I've updated my Apple iPod driver and rolled it back and updated again, updated my C-Media Realtek Audio AC'97 driver too.
I've a thread on it here;
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1164614&stqc=true
My latest attempts involved opening either bit of software in different compatibility modes before unchecking the 'run in following compatibility mode box', doing a 'Run as' (no passwords on my computer) and deselecting the virus protection box for iTunes and Quicktime.
Lastly I've tried downloaded iTunes 7.0 and then used Apple update to update/reinstall iTunes 7.4.3 after I found the same error messages for iTunes 7.0.
I've been told that reformatting my hard disk and reinstalling Windows might help, or it might not.
Do Apple tech folk browse these forums? There are also lots of others, including questions put on Yahoo Answers. Surely Apple will sort this out or provide advice?

  • "A Fix For iTUNES Not Opening"

Well, after trying to figure out what was going on with iTunes not opening at all. It turns out that by default for some reason Windows Xp Firewall disables it from opening it. iTunes however is acting like a server for the simple fact that you exchange data between your computer and iTunes Store. Since there is no option to force this connection to happen, you have to get ZoneAlarm to do so. I’m using ZoneAlarm Suite Edition, but it also works with the free Edition of ZoneAlarm. So what ZoneAlarm does is actually enables the connection between your computers data (iTunes) and iTunes servers to connect.
So first off make sure that you uninstall any Anti-Virus program so that only ZoneAlarm is installed/Running. Run ZoneAlarm and once that’s achieved you then go ahead and run iTunes. You will then be prompted twice, the first time it will prompt you about itunes.exe running as a program (Click Yes) and the second is very important since this is what enables iTunes to make a forced connection with iTunes servers (Click yes again). Once that’s done, you will see iTunes runs again. You can also uninstall ZoneAlarm and you will see that iTunes will still open even after ZoneAlarm is Uninstalled. I will see if I can make a .reg file so that you don’t have to install ZoneAlarm to make iTunes open again, but then again it wouldn’t hurt having ZoneAlarm installed since ZoneAlarm is a great tool.
Here's A direct link to the Free ZoneAlarm: http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1001cnet_zdnet/zlsSetup_61_737_000en.exe
I’m sure this will work for anyone clicking the iTunes icon and getting nothing after a sec of the hour-glass disappearing and also seeing that iTunes.exe disappears in the Task Manager. So the chances of this working are high and once again since its free it wont hurt to try. Thank you again for your attention. And if anyone needs help let me know, and I would appreciated it if you can leave a reply and let me know how it turned out, weather or not iTunes opened. Thank You.-Michael R.

Instead of "Click Yes" its supposed to be "Click Allow".

  • I bought a second hand G4 iBook with iLife 09 on it.  I have copied iLife to my new Macbook Pro. The applications would not open, so I did a software update and update all three applications, but they will still not open.  Can anyone help?

The seller should have given you the original disk so that you can reinstall as needed. But it likely was a single-user license (which really means single computer) so you can only have a copy on one computer at a time. If the seller didn't give you the disk he is probably still using the software on his new Mac. Your best option to get any of the iWork apps to use in OS X 10.6.6 or later is through the Mac App Store. You can then install them on any Mac you have that has access to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID.

  • "Fire-vault protected home folder did not open and needs to be repaired."

I recently updated my macbook to leopard and after my laptop downloaded system updates, it had to restart but when I came to the login section and tried to login, I get this message:
"Fire-vault protected home folder did not open and needs to be repaired. Click OK to repair the folder and continue logging in. Click Cancel login to log in as a different user."
I don't have a different user so I clicked OK, but then I get this message:
"You are unable to log in to the user account "Kyle" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occured."
So now I can't login and I'm a college student and need important files on my computer. Someone please help! I have class tomorrow!

Sorry, I re-read your question and realize from the title you had file vault on upgraded and now it won't let you into the home folder. This is a known issue and I hope Apple produce a fix. I encountered this problem but fortunately I took a bootable image backup to a firewire drive. I booted off that as root and then opened the sparese image which is the home folder. This gave warnings but let me copy important documents to safety and also export address book and safari book marks.
If you do not have a backup I am very sorry to say you may have lost those files. It is worth backing up important college work, even if it is just to CD. I hope Apple come up with a fix for this because many of us hit this problem. Part of the reason for owning a Mac is you do not expect to have these issues. It made me feel like I had just installed XP!

  • Is anyone experiencing itunes not opening up?

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCE TROUBLE OPENING ITUNES LATELY?  I DID THE UPDATE AND IT WILL NOT OPEN NOW. ANY HELP WILL BE GREAT!

Yes. I just installed iTunes on my Win XP machine. If it starts at all, iTunes stops responding the first time I click a button. Sorry, I have no help to offer.

  • Filevault "did not open and needs repair" upon Login

When attempting to login my second time after installing Leopard onto my Macbook, a warning appears saying that "Your FileVault-Protected home folder did not open and needs to be repaired. Click ok to repair the folder and continue logging in. Click cancel to log in as a different user."
Naturally, I clicked OK in hopes that it would just log me in as normal.
However, when i clicked OK it says "You are unable to log in to the user account 'elizabethsherman' at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I've tried restarting multiple times, but nothing is working.
My login picture has also magically changed. I don't think that correlates with the problem..
Has anyone ran into this problem or know what i should try to do??
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Liz Sherman

Check out http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25695 I couldn't find a comparable Leopard document.

Verify that your domain file is located in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder which will be invisible. However,
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    Next:
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
Since iWeb has discontinued by Apple the new systems don't handle the iWeb preference pane as it was in earlier.  The script corrects that situation and once you open the domain file the first time you can just use iWeb to open it from there on.  However, you'll need it if you plan on using more than one domain file. And adhear to the warning above.

  • Hi iPad 2 apps are not opening? Can anybody help please.

Hi iPad 2 apps are not opening? Can anybody help me please.

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but the Apple built-in ones are ok, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps including Apple's then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Hi there, i purchased an app called Top Movies. But when using it on my iPhone to buy movies, it gives me the error 'Your request could not be completed'. Please help.

Hi there, i purchased an app called Top Movies. But when using it on my iPhone to buy movies, it gives me the error 'Your request could not be completed'. Please help.

Ok.. I see the app now in iTunes.
Best thing to do is email the developer of that app.
You can do that here >  http://www.lymobilesoft.com/contact.html
Make sure and tell them exactly what the error says:
it gives me the error 'Your request could not be completed'.
Instead of using a third party app, you can download movies directly from the iTunes store.
