Itunes not picking up ipod

When I plug my ipod (ipod touch 5th gen, 4/5 months old) into my laptop windows recognizes it is there (the ipod/cable/laptop all work fine).  However, when it comes to itunes it just doesn't pick it up.  I have run the diagnostics and have been told that "No Ipod found".  I have followed all of the instructions of the apple support pages that are available, the advise made no difference.  I have turned everything off/on, removed itunes from my laptop then re-installed it, removed every apple product off my laptop & then re-installed them all.  None of this has made any difference, itunes still refuses to accept that my ipod is plugged in... any advise?

Hello, r2609b.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPod is not recognized by iTunes and understand you have tried some troubleshooting steps with the issue persisting.  I would recommend manually installing the Apple Mobile Device driver as outlined in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

the ipod forum is very good entertainment. i remember reading it last christmas day. lots of folk blaming apple for ruining their families christmas by intentionally providing ipods that didn't work. i knew apple was pretty big i didn't know it could ruin so many xmas celebrations.

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • Itunes not picking up Iphone?

Help, my itunes isn't picking up my iphone..
It been happening for a while back before Christmas but I didn't think much of it i thought it would sort itself out. But today is my upgrade to the new iphone 4s and i don't want to have the same difficulty with that...
Basically i plug my iphone(3g) into the computer with itunes running (latest version) my iphone makes the little ding sound to say its plugged in, and my computer (windows) makes the dong sound to say a USB has been plugged in, but then nothing.... i get the option from windows to copy items from the device but that's it nothing else, my phone says its charging and it is, but itunes doesn't pick it up at all, it stays the same as if it isn't plugged in, and it doesn't start a sync. I haven't synced ( that word sounds weird) my iphone in a longggg time maybe 5 months because of this and i really need to so i can save my data for my new iphone and also i don't want to get my new iphone and then stupid itunes not pick it up so i cant set it up.
    Oh the frustration...
Anyway if anyone can help me that would be great, like i said its an iphone 3g, i have the latest itunes, the computer and iphone are picking each other up but not itunes, its been happening for about 5 months, getting a new iphone and don't want the same problem.
Thank you to anyone who can help me out, much appreciated.

I had the same problem with my iPhnne 4sand iPad.  Found a site with a lot of help. Went to step 5 and added the Windows 64-bit regestry entries and it fixed my problem.

  • Iphone 4 black screen, tried dfu mode, itunes not picking up device. not able to bring up red phone off slide bar or apple logo if any combination of button holding. HELP

iphone 4 black screen, tried dfu mode itunes not picking up device. not able to bring up red phone off slide bar or apple logo if any combination of button holding.
Phone was given to me by apple 2 weeks ago. Last I saw of it working was phone was off so i did the quick reset. Apple logo came up, it started up and keypad for passcode came up. It said 2% battery then went up to 64% a second later. When I was playing wth it not 5mins before it was at 65% so would make sence that later indication was correct. Before I could type the 4 digit passcode in the phone turned off to black screen. Now I have tried all possible reset options incuding the 10 second hold down of both buttons for less than 10 seconds and longer than 10 seconds. Nothing is working. iTunes is not recognising the device at all. Ive had it plugged into a wall socket for three hours and the computer for 2 hours and no signal of life. Ive tried the forums on here and the youtube vidoes and seem to know what im doing with resets. Anyone able to shed some light?

Not being able to get DFU Mode indicates hardware failure. Since you recently received this iPhone from Apple it has at a minimum 90 day Warranty. Make Genius reservation or make service arrangements and take or send to Apple for resolution. Regarding what is actually wrong with the iPhone, it could be possibility of several things. But some of the features point directly to battery. First step in fixing this iPhone would be battery replacement. Then trouble-shooting from there if still problem. Take it to Apple.

  • Itunes not recognizing my ipod after restoring it

My ipod decided to go crazy on me, so I followed the 5 r's. After restoring the ipod it is no longer being recognized. I have restarted my computer, downloaded the latest software, used different usb ports but to no avail.
There is no icon in devices that pops up. When i run a diagnostic is states that an ipod is connected.
    Any helps?

  • ITunes Not Recognizing my iPod Touch after Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

Thanks to a posting by Jim in a different Apple Discussions (forum), my problem is now resolved. Read on for the details.

  • USB port malfunction - iTunes not syncing with iPod

    to all those apple veterans,
I am using my boyfriend's ipod and in the past, when i plug his ipod into my usb port on my sony computer windows XP, it has always appeared under 'my computers" where i could register my files. I had my itunes library for my ipod shuffle, so i never had any problems with my iTunes tracking my bf's ipod. a few months ago, i reinstalled my operating system and now when i try to plug in his ipod to his computer with his registered snyced iTunes so he could access the files and music on his ipod, the USB is not recognizing the iPod. Why is that? could someone helpe me? why is the usb port not recognizing the iPod when it worked in the past previously? note: i do have the newest itunes 7.0 installed.

  • Itunes not recognising my ipod and windows asks me to format

Itunes is not recognising my Ipod when I connect to my PC.  I've been using it for 8 years so this is out of the blue.  I get this flashing up:
    "Microsoft Windows
You need to format the disc in Drive N before you can use it.  Do you want to format it?"
    Bottom right of my screen
Safely remove hardware and eject media gives me the option to "Eject Apple iPod USB device"
I did that and now find my iPod has wiped all my stored items and I've had to reset date etc.  Is this a Windows or an Apple problem?

I'm afraid I got so frustrated with the PC crashing that I threw in the towel and ordered an iPod touch this morning after tentatively syncing my mini iPad this first, with no problems, just in case it was the PC.  Iv'e changed it to wifi syncing now as a further precaution.
If I can get the Classic to work again I can at least try to sell it as a functioning model.

    Hello R Hic,
I found an article that goes over how to restart and troubleshoot the Apple Mobile Device Service on Windows. I would recommend following the steps listed in that article and that should resolve your issue.
