ITunes not playing certain songs

I have iTunes version 7.6.1.9. This problem started today even though I downloaded this version the day it came out. iTunes won't play any of the songs I downloaded from P2P software or songs that I imported from CD's. It only plays songs that I downloaded from Rapidshare or Megaupload. It says that the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? I click yes and locate it in my Shared folder (except for those songs that I imported from CD's because I didn't save those). So, obviously, I have all those songs that it says it can't locate. Is there any way to have iTunes play them without me going through every individual song? Is there something wrong with my Shared folder? My music in my Downloads folder (the ones I got from Rapidshare or Megaupload etc.) plays fine for some reason. Please help. Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem as you. When I try to play certain albums that worked before, nothing happens. The only thing I can think of is that I started using Zune a few months ago(maybe these two are incompatible?). The only Zune setting I recently changed is to allow it to fill in missing metadata for songs. I have to add here that if Zune worked with my iPod I would not be using iTunes at all.

  • Itunes cannot play certain songs and will not add them to the library

i have music files on both a hard drive connected to a router plus i have placed the specific files onto my mac to try to fix this issue to no avail.  while songbird, vox, and several other players will easily load correctly and do exactly what i want, itunes will not play these songs, will skip over them when i try to add to the library and will not play the file if i drag and drop, try to load it through the  "file, add to library" method.  the files are .ogg, .m4a, .mp3, .m4p, and they just will not show up. Any media players out there that will recognize an ipod so i can load these files up and get away from my mac for a while?

It's not very nice to take over someone else this topic, because the topic starter (Ganieda) could have another problem than you. It's also very confusing for everyone who is trying to help because there are now 2 problems in the same topic.

  • My iPod is not playing certain songs.

Okay, so I go to listen to a song. The screen shows the normal stuff when playing a song EXCEPT it will not play. it shows the album art, artist, song, album, everything exept it simply will not play. it as if it it permanantly paused. i can scroll to the mddle of the song and nothing will happen. this only happens on certain songs too! i restarted my ipod, restored my ipod, did all of the things i could think of. i even deleted the songs and put them back on. not all of the songs are from a disc, i bought a good share of them off itunes. if you know how, please help!!!

Finally got closure from Tech Support...
I'm sorry to hear that you are still not able to play the song "Clocks" on your iPod. I know how frustrating that must be. My name is Jennifer and I am happy to help with this today!
It appears that there is an issue with the song itself, as you thought. I have reversed the charge for the purchase. The credit should be posted within five business days.
I have also submitted this item for investigation. Apple takes the quality of the items offered on the iTunes Store seriously and will investigate the issue with this item, but I can't say when or if the issue will be resolved. Please try again in a few weeks.
Also found a workaround...I burned a CD and included the song, then ripped it back and it works find.

  • Why will the Apple music app on my iPad not play certain songs???

    Hi,
Suddenly I noticed that certain songs, that will play without problem within iTunes on my PC, and with no problem on my iPhone 4S, will NOT play at all on my iPad (MB293KS) running iOS 5.1.1...
I have reset the iPad and then downloaded everything again, but the problem is till there. The songs that will not play are AAC-files and sampled in 44,100 kHz, 256 kbit.
If I use a third party player on the same iPad, like Bongiovi DPS, the songs play all right!!! So it seems that something is really wrong with the Apple Music App on this particular iPad??? What can I do about this? Are there any other music player I should concider as replacements for the Apple Music App? (Besides the Bongioivi, that is...).
    Thanks!

I have now updated to the new iOS 6.1, but still this problem persists! How is it even possible to be able to play the songs in iTunes, on my PC, and on the specified iPad, using for example the Bongioivi app, but NOT when I use Apple's built in Music app?
So before the 5.1 upgrade, the songs were playing all right. But AFTER this upgrade, and still after the 6.1, they won't play???

  • ITunes not playing full songs before going to the next

Like, I have a song here that is 5:49 minutes long. It plays until 3:21 then suddenly skips to the next. This has been happenning to a lot of the songs on my library - not the ones I added a long time ago, but the ones I've added recently. I first noticed it when I added the Homestuck albums I purchased from the Homestuck bandcamp page. First I thought there was something wrong with the files, then I noticed it was happening to all other songs I'd recently added to my library as well (also, none of the other people purchasing the albums seemed to have this issue).
Some cases are different than others. In some songs, it really only plays till a certain point and then skips to the next; no matter what I do, I can't access the rest of the song at all. For others, it plays until a certain point and then stops, and if I manually skip a few seconds ahead, I manage to get it to play the rest. Some songs have the issue on both my computer and my iPod, others don't work on iTunes but for some reason work on my iPod.
When I first started getting this issue, my iTunes wasn't in the latest version, so I thought maybe if I updated and installed the most recent version it would fix the issues, but there was no change.
I also tried converting the MP3's to AAC through iTunes, and the result is that it cuts off the final part of the song. For an instance, that 5:49 minute song that only played till 3:21 results in a 3:21 AAC file.
The songs play fine on other media players.
I've searched for other people with this problem, and only found people who have an issue on their iPhone but the songs work on their computer. I have an issue on both my computer and my iPod. I really want to solve this because it's seriously annoying.

This same thing is happening to my library while playing on my MacBook.  The files are NOT currupt and play fine in QuickTime player.

  • Itunes not playing the song i click

I am using iTunes on a Windows machine.  I have been adding files to my library that I had to copy from another location (somehow my library got switched, I think iTunes did it when my drive was turned off one day, or my kids selected to change libraries)  and I had two libraries, one local and one on an external drive.
Now when I select a song to play, it plays a different song.  Seems like my XML file is corrupted - any advice on how to clean it?
BTW, it seemed like I could no longer import songs from a different location, like I have in the past, so instead of losing 300 songs from my playlist, I moved the songs, and then clicked on the ones I had moved so iTunes would "relocate" them.  This worked, but now suddenly my library is all messed up, and the songs are no longer pointing to te correct audio files.....:( What a pain.  Seems like it is getting harder and harder to deal with iTunes.  We have 6 Macs and countless iPads/Pods/3 IPhones/iTouches.....I just haven't bit the bullet to more our music library to one of our Macs because of disk space and the hassle/possibilities of things going wrong.  Thanks for any help anyone has.

PS a little more info - it seems to always try to play music videos.  Also, I just upgraded from 11.1 to 11.2, but it did not fix the issue as likely I have a corrupt file.

  • Why can I not play certain songs which I have just downloaded?

I recently download 10 new songs and only 3 of them work and play out load whereas the other 7 do not .If you tap them they only skip to the ones working.my new songs also do not appear on my laptop (not an apple product). Some of the non working songs have faded out the song title and artist.

    Hi, drhalm.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like your music is not stored locally on the device and accessing your purchases in the cloud.  There is a new feature in iOS 7 that shows all purchased music and requires and Internet connect to play this content.  You can download any missing media via the steps in the first article below.  If the media is located in your iTunes music library, you can sync the media from your Mac to your iPhone.  If unfamiliar with the process, I have included the steps in the second article below.

  • Itunes not playing entire song

I recently downloaded iTunes 10.5 onto my newest PC laptop with Windows 7. I signed into my account and authorized my new laptop to my account. Then, though the iTunes Store, I transferred all my purchases to this new laptop's iTunes library. However, with half the songs I transferred, and several brand new purchases I made last night, iTunes will only play the first 10-45 seconds of the song and then skip on to the next one. There is no stop time for any of these songs. Does anyone know what I can do to play the entire song? I can understand this issue happening with songs I purchased three years ago and have transfered from computer to computer, but it's far too frustrated that this happened with a new song I downloaded last night from the iTunes store on my new laptop. I have tried restarting iTunes and restarting my laptop altogether.

i had this too, the only way I was able to solve it was to rebuild my library, ***** but is the only way.
Most likely you will experience that new songs informations are no longer stored and it will run determination for gapless playback on every startup of iTunes!

  • Why will iTunes not play certain MP3s?

I have a lot of music, and most of the music files are .mp3s.
iTunes lets me import the great majority of these files, some of these won't play in iTunes and so also can't be put onto my iPod.
I tried to convert the files using various software and even Adobe Audition can't open the files.
I can't see why this is happening and the only way these files can be sorted is when you hover over the files with cursor and no information about them appears such as the song title, album title, or bit rate etc... and they cannot be renamed.
VLC player can play them however.
If anybody can tell me what is going on and how I could go about getting them on iTunes that would be great.
    Any help is appreciated.

Windows Media Player can't open the file either.
Have you got any suggestions for file conversion programs, I have tried Total Video Converter and Adobe Audition but they can't even open the file never mind convert it.
Knowing that VLC can play it gives me some hope that it can be converted somehow, but nothing I have tried has worked.
    Any help would be great.

  • Itunes not playing entire song after installing new version

I installed Win7 Pro 64-bit and subsequently installed the latest version of iTunes.  Now iTunes is cutting off the last minute or so of my songs.  Why???

  • Partial solution for iTunes not playing songs or playing partial songs

Like a lot of other people, my iTunes (latest version 6.0.3.5 as well as previous versions), would refuse to play certain songs, or, would play only the first X seconds of a song.
I had been thinking all along that the song was encoded correctly and now iTunes would not play it.
Well it turns out that the iPod will not play it either, meaning that PLAYBACK was not the issue, but ENCODING.
I have another computer on our home network...I encoded a CD with that computer (same version of iTunes), then transfered the files to the "broken" computer...with the newly encoded files from the other computer, the "broken" computer plays the songs perfectly.
So anyway, the problem is with ENCODING, not PLAYBACK.
Now I have to go back and re-encode about 30 CD's...the number of CD's I've encoded on the broken computer since the no-playback/partial-palyback issue first surfaced.
We all still have a big problem here in figuring how to get the broken computers to encode correctly.
    Hope this helps.

You might check and see what codecs are installed on your PC...
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Hardware tab
    Audio Codecs > Properties

  • After loading the new OS now my songs do not play correctly. Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn't play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What's up? Kind of frustrating!!!

After loading the new OS my songs do not play correctly, is anyone else having this issue? Titles are wrong on songs and it just doesn’t play certain songs in random play or even if you select them individually. What’s up? Kind of frustrating!!!

I had the same issue.  In fact I posted it yesterday, but didn't get any replies.  I physically synched my phone to PC iTunes.  on the PC, under the phone/music tab, I unchecked the synch music box and then the apply button to remove all of the music from my phone.  Then once that synch finished, I went back and selected all music, and synch music and apply to put it back on to the phone.  So far, I haven't had an issue again, but I also haven't listened very long.  Hope this helps!

  • Suddenly I can,t play certain songs from my itune libary as they are connected to my old e mail address of 5 yrs ago . how do i get you to link the 2

Suddenly  i can,t play certain songs from my libary as they are connected to an old e mail address of 5 yrs ago . How do i merge them together ?

I had this problem yesterday (or a very similar problem). When you click on your purchased song, an old email address (Apple Account ID) pops up and asks for an old password to authorize permission. It is very stubborn and does not really co-operate when using the usual remedies (forgot password - send me an email - what is your birthday, etc). I fumbled around and eventually got it all straightened out. I can tell you what I did - I cannot tell you what exactly worked. Access your current Apple Itunes account. Deauthorize all computers (up to 4 or 5 in total, I forget...) that can play your purchased music. Update your password. Close your account and Itunes. Open Itunes and try your new password. Now try the "old" music that would not play before - your "old" email/Account ID should still pop-up asking for a password. Delete the old email/ID and put in your current one. Then use your new password to activate. This should solve the problem of old ID / old Password / no permission. My apologies for the imprecise method, again I am not sure exactly WHAT worked here - all I know is that the Itunes Help sections and tutorials were good - but of no use in this case.
    Cheers

  • TS1389 My iTunes isn't letting me play certain songs.

My iTunes isn't letting me play certain songs, saying that the computer is not authorized to do so.  I've done everything Apple recommends. I've gotten rid of the SC folder twice.  I deauthorized then reauthorized it, etc. I am the administrator so signing in as administrator doesn't help.  I don't know what to do. Help please.

Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you also worked through the instructions from the following document?

  • Please Help, iTunes has taken my right to play certain songs

Please Help, iTunes has taken my right to play certain songs.
These were free songs with coco-cola codes some time ago.
Now in Mtn Lion it has took the playing rights from me and locked them off!
Anybodys help on this subject is much appreciated...

    Yes it worked,
Right-click in it > Show in Finder. Finally, right-click in that file > Get Info > Sharing & Permissions. See if you have got read permission,
Clicked through the Get Info > Sharing & Permissions and when I closed the window the song played again.
Not sure why but it worked for me!
