Itunes not reading ipod mini

My husbands ipod mini was syncing earlier but then he "updated" it and now itunes doesn't recgonize it, So I reset the sync history and it still didn't read it. when I plug it in on the screen of his ipod it says do not disconnect yet itunes isn't doing anything to it! I reset it and it didn't do it. It worked fine before the update. Please help...

Okay, so i was readin through other discussions and i found this tip {"try resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer: hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized." by Mark Jone3. it worked for me, so hopefully it will for everyone else too!

  • ITunes not reading iPod Classic?

    Hello, it's me again.
This time, I plugged my iPod in. iTunes is working this time. However, it's not reading my iPod. My computer recognizes it, my iPod recognizes my computer but iTunes isn't picking it up.
    Any ideas?

There's rather a lot of different things that can cause that, E. The following document is probably the best place to start:

  • Itunes not reading ipod

Did some research, and it seems that the newest version of itunes 9 isn't letting my ipod to be read by itunes. It's an old ipod somewhat, is there anyway to down grade the itunes back to 8 or 7 if possible? I would like to not have to reset everything.
    Thank you.

I had the same problem. After reading some other posts I found the solution for now is removing itunes 9 and reinstalling iTunes 8.2.1 for G3. Open applications, remove the itunes app, also remove it from your dock. Open Finder, click Music, open itunes folder and move album artwork folder and itunes music folder to your desktop, delete all other files, librarygenius.itdb, library extras.itdb, music library.xml, and itunes library by moving them to trash and emptying. Don't worry once you download 8.2.1 for G3, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL857, and install it they will reappear. Reinstall 8.2.1, when install is done, open Itunes, go to Preferences, click the Advanced tab and uncheck "copy files when adding to itunes music folder". Now, open Music in Finder, open itunes and take your album artwork folder and itunes music folder from your desktop and place them back in the itunes folder in Music. Go to itunes, file, add to library and add the itunes music folder and your music will upload without creating duplicates. Once the adding is complete, lastly connect your Ipod and it should appear. Hopefully, this isn't difficult for you to understand but it worked for me.
Just a side note and this might not be necessary but I did it anyway; I opened up Finder and searched for any file that was connected to itunes and removed them all except for my artwork folder and itunes music folder. I tried uninstalling 9 and reinstalling 8.2.1 the way it is suggested in previous post and after I completed the process and I went to open up itunes, I got the error message "could not open because itunes was installed with a newer version". That is when I decided I will clean my mac of any files related to itunes, except for artwork and music, download 8.2.1, do a completely new install. Good luck.

  • Need Help, iTunes not reading iPod.

I have had this 160GB iPod since October of 07 and it has worked perfectly...until last night...it just stopped playing any of my songs and just kept on changing to the next song looking for one that would play.
I tried restoring it but I guess something happened while it was restoring and now iTunes won't freaking read it. I can't restore it again, I can't even get it too work with iTunes...
If anybody knows how to fix this...please tell me...

    Hey there,
Have you tried putting the iPod into Disk Mode and see if that helps? To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode. If it does reappear, it would be a good idea to try and restore it again. Hope this helps.

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

  • Mp3s play in iTunes and on iPod mini but not on iPod classic

Some of the mp3s in my iTunes library will not play on my new 160G iPod classic. I paid for and downloaded the mp3s from the internet (not p2p), most of wich are CBR (192Kbps), but the occasional album is VBR. All of the mp3s play fine in windows media player, iTunes and on my old iPod mini. When I go to play them on my iPod classic, the tracks just skip. It seems strange that the files play on an older model of ipod.
I have searched though these forums, and have seen people having similar trouble, but have yet to come across a solution.

Yes, I have this problem as well. I have synced and re-synced an entire library three times now (which is not easy when you have almost 10k tracks to upload) and the same issue occurs on some tracks, but not others. I can't really see a commonality amongst the files to figure out why the ipod won't play the songs. They play fine on Itunes and when the unit itself is hooked up to my computer, but not if you are just listening to it from the Ipod. Strange...hope somebody can answer this question soon...the problem is really irritating.

  • Why can Itunes not read my ipod's content?

Everytime I do an update on itunes it works perfectly fine.  The second time I open up itunes on the most recent version it says it cannot read my ipod's conent.  So it's not my ipod that doesn't work since it can work the first time it is on itunes, it is itunes that does not work.  I don't have a backup file for my songs and I do not want to restore my content.  I just want to add more music from itunes which does work THE FIRST TIME.  The last time I even tried to restore my ipod to factory settings it wouldn't even let me.  It also isn't letting me doing any updates on my ipod for some reason and it says I'm still on 4.3.5, but that isn't even an option below.  (I hate itunes, it's far too complicated than it really needs to be).

Okay, so I had persomed a diagnostic check, and it said ipod not found.  Does that help or make it worse?

  • New Ipod through warranty, itunes not reading it

I got a new ipod through my warranty b/c my ipod malfunctioned. Now my itunes wont recognize the new ipod b/c it is not the same one. I did not recieve a new itunes cd or anything. do you know how to get itunes to recognize it?
      Windows XP

does it have to do with the fact it is no longer the same ipod?
no, once it's formatted properly it should show up for you.
let's check on some of the usual suspects.
while you've got the ipod plugged in, go into "My Computer". does it appear in there?
if it doesn't appear in there, try:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
... but if it does appear in there, try:
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes

  • Moving iTunes Library from iPod mini to new computer (old hard drive dead)

Hi all, I own a 2nd gen (I believe) iPod mini with all of my music from my iTunes library on it. Last weekend, my computer began freezing/crashing while loading my desktop, and a diagnostic confirmed that the read/write head on my hard drive was bad. I don't currently have the spare cash to send it away to a recovery lab, so I am starting from scratch with a new computer I will be ordering today.
My question is this--is it going to be possible to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer? Many of the songs on my iPod are from other sources, during the years that I was not using iTunes, and from what I have read I will only be able to transfer my purchased music. I know there is a way to make my iPod into a hard drive in order to transfer the music to my new computer, but as I said, I cannot even boot up my old machine, and thus cannot access my iTunes library on my HD.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice you may have.

  • IMac will not eject iPod mini

About six days ago I connected my iPod mini to my iMac G5 to update. When iTunes indicated that the update was complete I tried to eject the iPod, yet the Do Not Disconnect screen was still being displayed. Each time I try to eject it I get an error message saying that "the iPod cannot be ejected because it containes files that are in use by another application" or that "the disk is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting applications and try again." I quit all the open applications and tried again, still to no avail. I have tried restarting the computer and turning off the computer and that has not worked either. I tried to restore the iPod but i get another error message saying that "the iPod could not be unmounted because it is in use. Close any open files on the iPod and try again." This has been driving me crazy for days now and I have been unable to find an answer in the forums or in any articles. Please help!

Open the Terminal application in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder and then run the last command listed on this page. Doing this will show you which files are open on the iPod; when you have a list, post back with it. It might also be helpful to restart with the Shift key held down, as doing this disables some of the background processes which might interfere with ejecting the iPod.

  • Songs Ski'pping, Harddrive Clicking, iTunes not reading....

Sounds just like an iPod huh? lol anyways I have had this problem and it wont go away... I've tried resetting, I've tried restoring, I;ve tried uninstalling iTunes and my iPod software and reinstalling it. What else is there to do and what kind of $$$ is it for a harddrive revamping... Is there just not enough shock absorbers on the harddrive? I know that external harddrives cant take a shaking.... is that what is happening here? I hear a lot of people with this problem and I would like to know if there is going to be a recall or a fix to this in future iPods... A lot of questions here. Please help with whatever info you have.

My iPod made the hard drive clicking noises and I thought it was dying. It wasn't, though. After putting the iPod into disk mode and erasing the hard drive, then reinstalling the iPod software I fixed it. I don't know all the steps off hand to tell you how to do it, but I followed the instructions elseware on this board. It was some time ago now, maybe a year or so and I have no problems since. Maybe someone else can give you advice?
Try searching for reformatting your iPod.
I do remember clicking the 'write zeros to disk' option with mine, which I believe sorted out the corrupted drive.
Be sure you are confident doing all the steps before you do this, because if you get it wrong you could end up with a shiny doorstop!
    Good luck!

  • How to prevent iTunes not recognizing iPod

After about 6 months with my iPod mini, I have had to re-install iTunes about 4 times. Symptoms: iPod shows up on the desktop but not in iTunes. Most times it has happened after updating software for iTunes or the iPod. This time it happened spontaneously. I have been successful each time by using the instructions at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61937 but this is getting really old. Anyone have suggestions to prevent this?

Well one thing I can say is that apparently I am not alone. I got this Ipod nano for christmas and it doesn't work. My wife has a regular ipod so I already have the latest software. I plugged it in and it charged but the itune never opens automatically and it makes the wrong USB noise when you connect it.
After having a regular MP3 player that you can just drag songs to, this thing is a royal pain. I read through all the help and resetting screens and then read the forums but nothing helped. I packed the thing away and chalked it up to another expensive toy that doesn't work.
Next time I will just buy a regular MP3 player at half the cost and it will actually play music!
