Itunes not recognising my ipod and windows asks me to format

Itunes is not recognising my Ipod when I connect to my PC.  I've been using it for 8 years so this is out of the blue.  I get this flashing up:
"Microsoft Windows
You need to format the disc in Drive N before you can use it.  Do you want to format it?"
Bottom right of my screen
Safely remove hardware and eject media gives me the option to "Eject Apple iPod USB device"
I did that and now find my iPod has wiped all my stored items and I've had to reset date etc.  Is this a Windows or an Apple problem?

I'm afraid I got so frustrated with the PC crashing that I threw in the towel and ordered an iPod touch this morning after tentatively syncing my mini iPad this first, with no problems, just in case it was the PC.  Iv'e changed it to wifi syncing now as a further precaution.
If I can get the Classic to work again I can at least try to sell it as a functioning model.

  • Itunes not recognising my ipod touch on Windows 64bit. HELP!

When I try and connect my shiney new ipod touch to itunes it says please connect this device to a computer running vista/windows 32bit... thus rendering it completely useless!
Is there a way to fix this?
Please I am desperate, I feel like I have completely wasted my money.

I just got my ipod touch this morning and I am having the same problem with Windows 7 64 bit. iTunes is the latest 64 bit version. When I plug my ipod into any USB port I am told that it is an unrecognized device.
I can however plug it into my netbook (also running Windows 7 but in 32 bit) and it is recognized as an iPod.

  • ITunes not recognizing my ipod on windows 7

Hi there i have Windows 7 premium and i just downloaded a new version of iTunes to my computer and now my iPod will not show up in iTunes. Ive tried the troubleshooting methods that iTunes suggested but still nothings working. Any help is appreciated thanks.

I have to mention, that the device is seen by itunes, and listed by the right name - it just tells that the device is in synch with another itunes lib??

  • ITunes not syncing with iPod in Windows 7 64 bit

I installed the 64 bit version of iTunes 10.5 on my 64 bit version of windows 7 on my hp dv6 laptop. No matter what I do everytime I connect the ipod to the laptop, itunes always tells me I need to uninstall itunes and install the 64 bit version even though that is the version that is installed.

I'm guessing no body knows the answer to this problem.

  • ITunes 10.3 with iPods and Windows XP

Since the iTunes 10.3 update, my iPods no longer want to work properly when connected to my Windows XP SP3 machine.
iTunes works fine on its own. I have even done a clean reinstall of 10.3.
Windows XP is up to date also.
iPod Shuffle, 2nd Gen is recognized as a device in iTunes, however, I get error (-50) when trying to add music/podcasts to it.
iPod Touch, 3rd Gen just sits like a brick. It doesn't even show the normal "charging" screen when plugged in. Very strange that having iTunes installed inhibits normal charging...
The cables are fine. The iPods are fine. I have tested them on other machines.
The only other error message is when iTunes starts up:
    iTunes Setup Assistant
    Warning!
iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes.
It seemed to take issue with a CD/DVD drive during install, considering it to be a "new" component, which it isn't.
I did replace the monitor recently, but that should be irrelevant.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you getting an error message, anthi? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

    > Step 3:Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the laptop manufacturers website.
    >*So here I am with the issue still not resolved. How do i Download and install the latest chipset drivers >in order to have Toshiba Satellite L300 & Microsoft Vista recognise my ipod?
Install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest home Edit or similar.
This tool would provide all hardware details about your notebook.
It would list all devices and chipset name too.
I think its Intel chipset so you could find the driver on the Intel page

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.

  • Since installing XP Service Pack 3, iTunes dose not recognise my iPod

Since installing XP Service Pack 3, iTunes dose not recognise my iPod.
    Windows does but Itunes doesn't.
The Windows dialogue box syas "iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close"
I have gone through the 5 Rs and the troubleshooters and the problem persists.
    Any ideas?

Since installing XP Service Pack 3, iTunes dose not recognise my iPod. Windows does but Itunes doesn't. The Windows dialogue box syas "iPodService Module has encountered a problem and needs to close"
Have a look in your Device manager. (Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and click "Device Manager".)
Is Device Manager (in the right hand pane of the Window) completely blank?
If so, see the following Microsoft document for troubleshooting advice:
Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
(When you get your Device Manager displaying correctly again, iTunes should stop giving you the "iPod Service Module" crash.)

  • Downloaded update on ipod on wifi 0.6 could not sync with computer as it did not recognise my ipod on itunes but could not download 0.6 off itunes it doesnt seem to be on itunes suggested web page, please help

downloaded itunes 0.6 on my ipod over wifi, however when connected to my computer it would not recognise my ipod and suggested i went to www.itunes .com/uk but could not find or download 6, so now cannot sync my ipod with itunes on my computer, please help cheers.

By wiping both iPhone and iPod and trying syncing with another computer I've come to the conclusion that something with MobileMe sync is the problem.
I can set up both to work fine with my Mac Pro and a new Mac Book Pro as long as I don't set up MobileMe syncing. As soon as I sync with MobileMe I start having problems, particularly with Calendar.
MobileMe seems to work fine computer to computer, until the iPhone/iPod get involved, then the MobileMe copy gets messed up. Version on computer seems to stay ok.
Not sure where to go from here... other than call Apple or go to the Apple Store.

I have recently changed lap tops and moved my itunes library successfully.

I have spoken to apple and they think its a settings issue on my pc ? I have fully deleted and then reinstalled itunes .
can any one help ? This should be easy to resolve but appears to be a common issue when looking on the web.
    Thank you

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

    Hi Moclam12,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPod classic is formatted for Windows, and you want to sync it with your Mac, try to force the iPod into Disk Mode and then restore it using your Mac.
