Itunes not recognizing my ipod after restoring it

My ipod decided to go crazy on me, so I followed the 5 r's. After restoring the ipod it is no longer being recognized. I have restarted my computer, downloaded the latest software, used different usb ports but to no avail.
There is no icon in devices that pops up. When i run a diagnostic is states that an ipod is connected.
Any helps?

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing my iPod Touch after Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

Thanks to a posting by Jim in a different Apple Discussions (forum), my problem is now resolved. Read on for the details.

  • ITunes Not Recognizing/Reading iPod

    Hello!
I've recently had trouble with iTunes not recognizing/reading my iPod. I've plugged it in, but iTunes fails to recognize that it's been plugged in. It does charge, but that's it. I've been trying to sync my iPod, but I'm now unable to. This problem only began a few weeks ago, rather suddenly, and has not yet worked since then. I'm hoping I don't have reinstall iTunes, as I've purchased some new songs and those are what I'm trying to copy over, and I don't wish to lose those.
I'm currently running Windows Vista, and I'm not sure which versions of iTunes I'm using. I know I was using 7 at some point, but I don't remember if I've updated beyond that. I'm also using a 2nd Generation iPod Nano.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and/or what I can do to fix it will be eagerly waited for!
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various ‘generic’ solutions that you can try in an effort to correct your problem. One should work. These are listed in simplest to more involved order (usually). Read through them all, and see if one specifically matches your observed issue(s).
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. However, it may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
Your iPod may be conflicting with other USB peripherals or network drives. If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
    -- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
-- Open iTunes &/or Connect the iPod
If you do find that your Device Manager is blank, you should probably check up on this issue first: No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
Try using another PC if you have access to one. Even a Mac may help. Try Restoring it on the other computer and moving it back to yours.

  • ITunes doesn't recognise iPod after restore: help please?

I've just restored, done the connect to power instead of pc (windows based), is reconnected to usb 2 port, but iTunes isn't showing any screen to resetup my iPod, and iPod saying "do not disconnect". What now? Could it be automatically updating without showing in iTunes? • Itunes not recognizing my devices after installing 11.1.4

As per itunes message to update to latest version, I updated to 11.1.4 on my PC. I'm running windows 8.1, 64 bit. After updating and restarting computer, itunes will not recognize any of my devices. iphone4s, ipod touch 5g, ipod touch 4g. The devices "are" recognized on the computer when plugged in via usb. I guess this would indicate that the usb cables and the drivers are good.
All of my itunes libraries for the associated devices open up just fine. All of the contents are in tact. It's just that the device is not recognized in itunes when opened. Any suggestions would be much appeciated.

    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • Computer, Itunes,  Not recognizing my ipod

About 2 weeks ago i tried to update my music on my ipod touch. I plugged it in and it didnt show up in itunes, My computer or Media Monkey. My computer charges it just fine, But i cant find it anywhere on my computer. Ive tried everything i can but with out itunes recognizing it i cant restore. The reset with the home and menu buttons (just orginized my apps which was nice lol) Tried searching device manager, no luck doesnt even show up any where in there.
Ive been scouring forums all day the only thing i found was this issue with the classic and vista or xp.
I'm running itunes 9 cause 10 caused a crash with my boyfriends ipod Which works fine he has the 8gb 3rd gen w/ 4.1
Ive Tried His Ipod Cord My Ipod cord and every usb port on laptop. Both cords charge mine. and both cords connect his. His ipod shows up just fine
    So what do i do?
Mine is 3.1.3 and the serial is 1C8015Y414P

This is what the guide says
Restore iPod touch from a backup:
1 Connect iPod touch to the computer you normally sync with.
2 In iTunes, Control-click iPod touch in the sidebar and choose “Restore from Backup” from the menu that appears.
3 Choose the backup that you want to restore from the pop-up menu, then click Restore.
I cant do this because my IPod DOES NOT show in iTunes.
The only thing my IPOD does is charge when i connect it.
    Any other ideas?????

  • ITunes not recognizing my iPod nano 3rd gen!

I have connected my ipod (3rd gen) to my macbook but itunes is not recognizing it. I have read several forums (including here) and tried some trouble shooting steps. My iTunes software is up to date. iTunes opens when i connect the ipod and it shows up in finder under "no name". It worked fine last month on an imac w/ no problems. Any ideas? Thanks

If you have not already, disconnect the iPod and restart your Mac.  Do this to Reset the iPod.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
Once the Mac restarts, run iTunes and connect the iPod.
If that does not help, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then, connect it to the Mac running iTunes.  It's possible that iTunes will tell you that you need to Restore the iPod.

  • ITunes not recognizing my files after move to new Powerbook

Just moved all my stuff over to my new computer (Powerbook G4) using migration assistant and while everything else seems to be working fine, iTunes is not recognizing the folder with all my songs in it, called "iTunes Music" in my iTunes folder in my Music directory. Any ideas why it's not being seen? I'd hate to import them, since I believe iTunes would be making copies of each song.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I'm on iTunes 4.7.1 on a new Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4. I was using a Powerbook G4 rental with OS 10.4.2 that I'm about to return. It's in the process of being zero'd out so I can't check the iTunes version but I think it was running iTunes 4.9, now that I think about it. I guess it was my mistake to think a brand new Powerbook would be running software more recent that a rental.
I didn't do any replacing of the music folder, since I used an automated "mover" program that ran when I first started this machine called "Migration Assistant" or something like that that did an amazing job of moving everything over from the rental to this new one. It was just like I was on the rental--my desktop, applications, dock, and everything else was set up the way it was before, with the exception, it seems, of iTunes.
iTunes started as if it were opening for the first time and looks that way. None of my songs show up, though they're in my user folder in Music > iTunes> iTunes Music, each album in a separate folder inside, including the albums I bought through iTunes. Still, no playlists or songs show within my iTunes application, nor does the "purchased music" category show up at all (typical, I guess, when it doesn't think you've yet purchased anything).
Also in my iTunes folder is:
    - a file called iTunes 4 Music Library
    - a file called iTunes Library
    - a file called iTunes Library.xml
    - a folder called Previous iTunes Libraries which contain an iTunes 3 Music Library and and iTunes 4 Music Library. Both of these are documents, not folders.
I'm hoping there's a way to trick iTunes into seeing this stuff, maybe moving everything out, upgrading and then moving them back in some way? Thanks for the help! Have a kids birthday party in a few hours and hoping to use my iTunes to make some playlists and maybe buy some more songs.
By the way, I have an iPod that I synched to the rental recently. Might be missing some playlists but all the music is on that, too.
    Thanks!
    Bob

  • "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" will not sync to iPod after restore

    Hi, new here.
I'm using Windows, and have a need to reformat & reinstall every six months or so (I install & uninstall a lot of software; I'm a tester by profession). Now, I do not restore my iPod touch quite as often as I reformat, but when it can't be helped, like this other day when iTunes suddenly won't recognize my iPod touch when I connect it. The first time it happened, I was able to contact Apple Support by phone and they kindly re-posted the January Software Upgrade to my account by default, and I was able to re-download it (I also sent an email, hence I was re-sent the file a second time after that, which I have also re-downloaded since). I realized I might run into the same problem in the future, (and I've been doing a lot of reading around these forums) so I backed up the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file.
Three months later (i.e., today) my iPod wonked out again, but I can't seem to re-sync the file I backed up to my freshly-restored, now-plain-vanilla, without the January Software Upgrade iPod touch. The steps I followed are as below:
    (1) Copied the backed up file to "C:\Users\RonMarc\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa"
    (2) Re-launched iTunes and made sure I'm logged in to iTunes with the account I used to purchase the upgrade
    (3) Restored the iPod touch (it automatically downloaded 1.1.4 (at the time I purchased the upgrade, it was 1.1.3; I have also tried shift+Restore and browsed to a IPSW file of the 1.1.3 version)
    (4) When prompted if I'd like to set up the iPod as a new iPod or if I wanted to restore a previously backed up copy, I opted to restore. I have also tried re-restoring it and doing it the other way, i.e., "set up as a new iPod"
    (5) Ejected the iPod, reconnected it and Synced. Still, no January Software Upgrade.
I'd like to know if I missed out on any steps. Or if the "back up the IPA file" method works only under the Mac, as in here. The idea of
