ITunes Not Remembering View Options for iPod

I just upgraded to 7.0.1 to see if it would fix this problem, but no dice. The view options for my 5G 80GB reset back to the factory settings each time I disconnect my iPod, or even if I restart iTunes and leave the iPod connected.
I'd like to have the browser up and have some of the other options changed, like showing track numbers and time. This used to be a setting that always stayed the same with my previous iPod.
I upgraded my iTunes to 7.0 and bought my new iPod at the same time, so I'm not sure which is actually having the problem. Anyone else notice this?

I'm having exactly the same problem with iTunes 7.0.2 and a 80gb iPod. It's really annoying. It should remember the view options, at least iTunes 6 did.

  • Itunes not remembering view/sort options

This has probably been asked before, but I'm having trouble finding it (probably not using the right search terms). Anyway, ever since Itunes 10 I've been sorting my albums in a Grid with the option to sort by Album/Year. So my albums for each genre are grouped first by artist, then by year, which is perfect and exactly what I want. However, every time I open Itunes it "forgets" to group by year, and only groups the albums by artist. To correct it, I have to click the "Album by Artist/Year" button at the top of the list every single time I open Itunes, and usually I have to do it for each genre. So annoying. Is there any fix for this? Thanks for any answers.

Many thanks. For the basic technique see the *Remove iTunes Preference files* section of the User-specific troubleshooting section of the following document:
[iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717]
Because moving a set of preference files sets those preferences to their defaults, the test you'll need to do after moving a set is launching iTunes, changing display preferences, closing iTunes, and then launching iTunes again in order to see if the display preferences have "stuck" this time.
    *Things to watch out for*
If this works, some of your preferences will be set back to their defaults, so make a note of any custom preferences you have set up. You may also need to reinstall any third-party add-ons/plug-ins.
Running iTunes after removing the \local\ set of preferences will cause the license agreement to run again.
Running iTunes after removing the \roaming\ set forces the iTunes setup assistant to run again. When prompted to add files to your library, say "no" or your library will be filled with duplicates.

  • Not showing "transfer" option for iPod Shuffle to other computer

I have two authorized computers-a Windows XP (the first) and a Windows Vista I just authorized with iTunes 8. My iPod Shuffle works with the first computer (the XP) and will connect with it, but with the Vista, it only shows the "erase and sync" and "cancel" options in the pop-up box when I plug it in to my computer. How do I fix this problem?

If it helps, the computer it is not working on is a Toshiba Satellite.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Do you have to have iTunes on a Windows PC for iPod to be seen as a removab

Do you have to have iTunes on a Windows PC for iPod to be seen as a removable drive?
I know that you have to "enable disk use" on a Windows PC with itunes 1st, but after this can you take the iPod to any Windows PC (Specifically without iTunes on) and the iPod will be seen as a removable disk so you can move data back and forward?
    cheers
    Loc

It will show up just like a drive in My Computer. Yes, you can drag and drop.
You do not need to allocate any space for disk use. Just check the option in iTunes (to enable disk use)
Just keep in mind that the iPod is not meant to be an external drive. If the HD is continuously used, it may shorten the life of your iPod. (This is if it is excessively used)

How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

  • How can I change view options for ALL playlists?

How can I change view options for ALL playlists? With one single click or trick?
I have a lot playlists and don't want to change every single one of them separatly.
Thanks for your help. (I use Windows 7)

There's no FAST way I know of, which is what I think you mean.
Only the painful SLOW way of one-by-one.
You could make a new playlist from the main library after you've set the columns up as you like.
Go to an existing playlist that doesn't have the columns you want, and select all.
RIght-click > Add to Playlist and send them to the new playlist.
That's still one-by-one and only works with static playlists, not smart ones.

  • How do I set view options for all playlists at once?

    Hello,
I want to able to set the view options for all my playlists at once (to include BPM, category etc). Currently you can only do this individually for each playlist.
Surely there is an easier way?

    1 - No
    2 - Using iTunes, no.
However this script will do what you want .

  • Changing View Options for ALL Playlists together

This question has remained without simple answer in spite of being asked many times. I think that I have an answer, the procedure is the following:
    (1) Open the "source" iTunes Library
    (2) File/Library/Export Library…          Save the list of Playlists
    (3) Close the "source iTunes Library
    (4) Create a new "destination" iTunes folder
    (5) Import one (or more) song from a CD
    (6) Select Music on top of the LIBRARY window
    (7) View/View Options…                               Set the View Options as desired
    (8) File/Library/Import Library…          Import the list of Playlists saved in (2)
    (9) Remove the auxiliary song(s) introduced in (5)
In the "destination" iTunes folder, the View Options of ALL playlist are those set in (7), irrespective of what they were in the "source". This works using iTunes 10.5 on an Intel iMac runing OSX 10.6.8, and presumably also with other configurations.
Any simpler, faster, or less memory greedy solution?

I'm not sure about a PC, but with a Mac you hold down the Control key and click on the right-most column's title bar. A menu of columns shows up with your current columns having check marks beside them. Just check or un-check the ones you want. To resize a column, click on the thin vertical line that separates the columns' names. Your cursor should change to a two-way arrow when you move across the adjustment line - just like in a spread sheet. Just click on the line and drag its width to suit you.

My mini with IOS 7.0.6 is not showing an option for wish list in the options. What is happening?

    The three Rs to IOS, try them in order until the issue is resolved;
Restart - Press and hold the Power button until the red Power Off stripe appears. Swipe to power off. Press and hold the Power button to turn the device back on.
Reset - Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons.
Restore - Connect the device to the Mac or PC with which it is usualy synced and use the iTunes app to restore the device to the factory settings. You can then restore the device with a previously made backup or set it up as new.

how do i get itunes or any other program for ipod to play one song and then stop instead of contiuing playing. I need it to be in the same playlist and ready to play the next song when I press play?

Good luck.  I tried to do this to cue sound effects for a theater, and never found anything.  iTunes will definitely *not* do this, nor was I able to find any player that would play one song at a time in a single playlist.
In my case, I ended up using AutoHotkey to tie individual tracks to the keys on an external keypad. This was an excellent solution for my problem, but I don't think AHK runs on Macs.
One workaround is to make a folder, and fill it with *shortcuts* to the songs you want (ie, the actual files).  You can change the names to start with numbers to get them in the right order.  Then if you double-click on one it will play just that song.  You'll still have to double-click on each song.
Might be a good time to learn AppleScript   It would  also be pretty easy to write a Java app to do this.

  • Finder View Options, For All Sub Folders

If I understand how View Options work in Finder windows ...
I can set View Options for a particular folder to always open up in a particular View Options setting.
I can set that very same View Option as the Default View Option for all the rest of the folders I open up.
But, what I would like to do is set the View Options for a folder and all it's sub folders to be the same. Without changing the default View Option for the rest of the folder I open up.
    For example.
I like to have my Documents open up in List View.
I like to have my Photos open up in Icon View. (along with certain Icon View Option settings)
Is there a way to do this?
Can I set the directory and all sub folders/directories for all my photos to open up the way I would like them? Without having to change the way all my Document folders/directories open up?
Because the way it seems to work now, is that every time I create a new folder in my Photos directory/folder, I have to manually set the View Options, since the default is List View and not Icon view. If I change the default to Icon View, then any new folder/directory in my Documents will then open up in Icon View.

If the folder is not set to open in a specific view, it should open in the same view as the containing folder. When using mixed views, you need to open the folder in another window to get the view it previously had.
In your example, setting Documents to always open in list view and Photos to always open in Icon view should have any new sub folders open in the same view. If any existing sub folders have a different view, you will need to manually change the view, since the Finder will (usually) keep track of the view any particular folder has.

  • Some questions about view options for single folders

    hi,
I'm trying to customize the finder a little, but I'm running into some troubles. It seems that finder is not capable of saving view options for single folders, is it? What I mean is: For example I want my standard view to be "column view, sorted by name". But one specific folder I want to open in "list view, sorted by date modified". I can't get finder to do it.
In View Options, there is a checkbox "Always open in XXX view". But it only seems to work if I cmd-click that folder so it opens in a new finder window, but not if I stay in the same window, which is really annoying.
With file-sorting, it seems as soon as I chose "sort files by date modified" finder does this for ALL folders, not only the one I'm currently in (regardless of whether I use View -> Arrange By or View -> View Options -> Arrange By)
Ideas? I can't believe that those basic features are actually lacking in finder.
    thanks!

well, I think I see what the problem is.
I usually use column view. In column view it is enough to single-click on a folder to open it. When you do that, a new column with that folder opens. When I double-click on a folder on the other hand, it behaves the way I want it to be (opens in the view I set for it). So it seems like I will have double-click every folder in order to behave it the way I want (annoying as well, but I guess there is no other solution).
Btw, if I create a new folder on my desktop and change it's default view it works, because clicking on a folder on the desktop is pretty much the same as opening it in a new window.
Thanks for your help though. If you have any idea if you can make the folders behave the right way by single-clicking than please let me know
edit: ok, seems I was wrong. it worked for the desktop-folder, but doesn't seem to work for any other folder (it DOES work when cmd-double-clicking it though). strange.
