ITunes not responding due to DNS issues?

iTunes 11.1.0.126 on Windows 7, never had a problem in the past 5 years... iTunes runs 24/7 on this machine. It has been running for days since my last reboot, maybe a week. I was listening to a podcast, then went into the store to search for an artist, clicked on an album, listened to preview, back button, different album, preview, back button, different album, etc then one time when I clicked the back button iTunes became unresponsive until I had to kill it.
I can no longer open iTunes, it always opens as a transparent window with a border and is immediately "Not responding" in task manager. Same thing happens in safe mode. I tried rebooting too.
Around this time I started noticing other problems with my internet connection. Seems like my provider is having DNS issues because certain websites hosted on the east coast won't load, but west coast websites will (I am on the west coast). I tried loading these websites on my phone through cell data and they worked, so I figured my provider is having problems.
Now I'm wondering if iTunes calls home or tries to make some sort of connection when it loads, regardless of safe mode or not, and this causes the application to hang immediately. Does anyone know anything about this, or how I might be able to get the iTunes application to run again?

Well, it wasn't a DNS issue, it was a routing issue that affected ISP customers in half of the country. https://community.shaw.ca/thread/9284?start=0&tstart=0
I can confirm that iTunes will now open and is functional. It seems that if the application can't access some internet resource immediately when it launches it will immediately lock up and never come back! No offline mode??!?!

  • ITune Not Responding message?

The message: iTune Not Responding appeard.  I went as far as force-quit iTune.  What's next?

The easiest thing try will be downloading and reinstalling iTunes.
If that doesn't do it, try starting iTunes in Safe Mode by holding down the Option and Command keys when starting iTunes.
If it works normally, take a look at this Apple doc -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

  • Itunes not responding upon startup - but then it starts up.

I recently installed a 500GB HD in my first generation macbook, and proceeded to transfer my audio library off an external, onto my computer. I had some issues with 'dead links' (itunes would import all but one song out of an album, for example) but I was able to solve that problem thanks to genius playlists and itunes track CPR.
After that, all went very well, until one day, when I opened itunes, the icon didn't bounce, nothing happened - I "right clicked" on the icon and it said *"itunes not responding (force quit)"*. This happens every time I try to open it. However, *if I sit back and wait literally two minutes*, (it feels like a very long time) *it opens, just dandy and works fine*. How to I remedy this?

Since you recently installed a new hard disk, perhaps you should check for errors.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Select your disk, and click First Aid.Click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairs, do one ofthe following:
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear. Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Verify. If DU reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Click MacintoshHD and click Restart.
Or you could boot in Safe Mode:
To start up in safe mode:
Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after your hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.

  • Application is not working due to memory issue

    Hi Friesnds,
Kindly help me regarding settings in java. Scenario is like that. I have one server having two jboss versions (jboss-4.2.3 GA and jboss- 3.2.6). Each having java memory (JVM settings) 1 GB. The total memory of that server is 3 GB.
Problem is that every two days my application is not working due to memory issue. Once i freed the memory (through run the commands - (1). sync
    (2). echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
    Application works fine.
I heared that the above command (echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches) can't run frequently because of server crash.
Kindly help me regarding this issue and provide the resolution.
Let me know if you need more information from my side.
    Thanks

All of the above.  I tested on 4 different networks and had no luck, I also had friends test my network and the other networks with their iPhones and all had no issues using FaceTime.
Also after I wiped my phone (erased all content and settings) I was able to successfully initiate a FaceTime call with no changes to my network and was also able to initiate another call when connected to another previously tested network that didn't work before.  Once I restored from backup though, FaceTime stopped working again.
I did find this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5163024?start=0&tstart=0
and tried the suggestions found there too.  That discussion describes my issue I am having as well.

    Hi Keith,
Try closing all the applications you have running in the background and re-open iTunes, if that doesn't work I recommend to restart your machine and make sure you have the lastest version of iTunes.

  • When I select "Get Info" in iTunes, iTunes "NOT RESPONDING"

when I select "Get Info" in iTunes, iTunes "NOT RESPONDING"

What you see in iTunes is a database list which also contains unseen information as to which file iTunes should play on your computer when you click on a track.  Usually those files are in folders inside your iTunes > Media folder.  When iTunes asks you to find a file say yes and then guide it to the actual file you want it to play in your media folder.  It should then asks if you want it to find others and will re-scan the series of folders to rebuild the links.  If you cannot find the file on your computer then you will have to restore from a backup.

  • Itunes not responding when I sign into my apple ID. Otherwise itunes is working fine

Itunes functions properly when I am not signed into my Apple account. As soon as I sign in, it starts freezing and says Itunes not responding. It also normally saves my apple ID in itunes every time I open the application, but now each time I do it makes me sign in again. So frustrated...how do I fix this?

You are logging into the account that you bought those games with, and you haven't changed countries since buying them ? If they don't show in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPod then do they show on the account's purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727 ? If they do then are they hidden from the Purchased tab : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 ?

  • ITunes not responding. Can anyone help?

iTunes (latest version) is running incredibly slow on my Windows 7 laptop. Every action I take (i.e click on the artists tab in the music section, click on a searched name, add a song to a playlist) seems to take at least a minute. The Windows task manager appears to be saying that iTunes is fluctuating between 'responding' and 'not responding'. iTunes asks me to log in everytime I open it. I've tried restarting my laptop a few times to no avail. iTunes is virtually unusable in the state that it's currently in.
Can anybody offer any suggestions as to what could potentially be wrong and what I could to do fix this issue? Thank you.

I'm noticing that iTunes is trying to do that "determining gapless playback information" thing but is continuously stuck on the 1st song and I cannot seem to cancel it.

  • Itunes "Not Responding" when accessing Itunes Store.

I have the most recent version of Itunes and I have already re-installed once. The problem seems to be  that every time Itunes tries to connect to the Store, Itunes goes into the "Not Responding" state. What are the steps I need to take to prevent this? I have also tried the comman for the restart and that still didn't work.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Firefox is having "Script" issues (Not Responding) und possibly Flash issues?

Okay, downloaded Firefox for the first time in like a year yesterday. It was working beautifully, oh, how I've missed it. I hate using Google Chrome with a fiery burning passion.
However, though it was working perfectly yesterday, I have not downloaded anything or got any plug-ins/extensions, whatever.
Today, however, I can go to www.google.com (on firefox), but if I try to go to my banks website, or imvu.com, or something like that, all the sudden Firefox decides to hang. It freezes und I get that annoying "(Not Responding)" at the top. I have to close out of the browser entirely, open it up und forgo the session restore.
Some websites are okay, however, it seems many of them aren't.
I get a script error message, so far the one for imvu.com that popped up was "lookout.bluecava" or something like that. Asked if I wanted to wait for script to respond or if I wanted to stop it. Either way, it ends with me closing out und starting back at google.
Right now, to ask this question, I had to re-download google chrome, und log in from that browser since Firefox doesn't even want to support it's own support forum! Crazy stuff, right?
Anyway, since it's having a "script" issue, I went to java, made sure I had the updated java installed on my computer, then I made sure that I had the updated java plug-in. Und I even downloaded the 64bit java for it as well, both the 7u45 or whatever.
So, my java on my comp und firefox browser are seemingly up to date, und the Add-On thing for Firefox to check if plugins are up to date says they all of them are up to date.
Still having the issue. The moment I go to imvu or another site that has that issue, it freezes within 10 seconds und that's all she wrote.
So, I'm really not wanting to go back to Google Chrome for another year, I miss the hell out of Firefox.
To Add: The issue I am having right now with Firefox is the same issue I had a year ago, when I had to uninstall firefox und go with Chrome in the first place.
But, since it was acting normal yesterday when I installed it, I figured that it was fixed. Wrong in less than 24 hours.
Before I submitted this, I decided to hop back onto Firefox und try something.
I disabled the Shockwave Flash und the Shockwave Director plugins. Now, Firefox is working again.
    Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
It asks me if I want to install the "flash" plugins needed to view some content on the page (I used imvu.com to try it out after disabling the shockwave), but still runs.
So, what do I need to do for flash? Or better yet, what's going on with it?
I downloaded the flash yesterday within half an hour of starting Firefox up after downloading it. Und it worked just fine for hours.
I shut the comp down, packed it up, went home, come back to work, hop on the net und BAM. All the sudden Shockwave is having issues with Firefox when nothing was done to instigate it? Doesn't make sense.
    Other info:
Windows 7 Home Premium on HP laptop.

I will give Firefox 24.1 a try und see if shockwave flash actually works without making it hang und resulting in need of force close.

  • ITunes not responding error message when iPod is connected

I cleaned up all of my music on my external hardrive. I moved the cleaned up librery to iTunes. I connected my 30G iPod and I reset the content on the iPod, but now I can not sync with the computer and Itunes frezes and gives me an error saying that Itunes is not responding. This happens everytime I connect my iPod; now I have no music on the Pod.

    Hi Caroline,
Unfortunately I don't have the VI that didn't work saved anymore. I noticed that it was the function Current VI's Menubar that was the problem. By replacing it with the same function again the VI started working. I had that function in the VI a long time before it stopped working properly. I must have changed something else in the VI that affected that function. Maybe I changed the run-time menu, or opened a new run-time menu for that VI. I don't remember exactly.
    Best regards
    Karin
