ITunes not responding when I plug in my iPod

Hey all, I need some help. Recently when I plug my iPod into my PC to update my iPod with the new music that I have loaded into iTunes, as soon as I do iTunes stops working and when I checked in my windows task manager under appplications/status it says iTunes is not responding. when my iPod is not plugged in, iTunes works fine. I can't get past this. Yes I did load the updated software, it didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is also happening to me updated latest version of Itunes. Itunes works fine but doesn't show the ipod when I attach. Tried most of the hints on the web site but nothing is working. Plugged the ipod into my base station and hey presto it works fine. I have also tried top re load the ipod software on the lap top but this isn't working either it asks for the ipod to be plugged in when it is plugged in it doesn't see it. Yet in windows explorer you can see the ipod is connected. Any idea's anyone. Shall i try to install version 6.0.0 of itunes instead of the latest version ?

Hm... Strange.
I had reset the iPhone.
I tried disabling the auto-launch of iPhoto, and...
...when I plugged iPhone in, it started to freeze iTunes, but after a minute or so, the iPhone started synching. I found this odd because I had disabled auto-sync (I press Sync in iTunes when I want to have it Sync).
Now, of course, I do want auto-launch of iPhoto back on, since I like it for when I attach my digital cameras. I hope that when I set it back, it won't re-introduce the problem.
The restart I did may have helped. I resist restarting because my wife's account is often open and she frequently leaves unsaved files up, so it is a pain to respectfully close out her work and then restart.

When I try to sync my touch and connect the cable itunes my
ipod just sit there. Nothing shows up on either ipod or in itunes.
I have tried to close itunes and reopen, then try to reconnect the touch and
still nothing.
I have the latest versions of both itunes and updates for the touch.

I suppose I answered my own question. I WAS experiencing the freezing and all, but then I followed Apple's instructions should something like this occur: I deleted iTunes, ended the Helper in my processes, and eliminated iTunes from starting up when I turn my computer on. I then restarted my computer, deleted the old iTunes from the trash, and downloaded and installed the new one. It took me a little while to do this--ie it was inconvenient--but it worked. The moral of the story is if you cannot fix it as is, just delete everything and start over.

Open iTunes and connect your iPod. Select your iPod in iTunes from the Source list. (I'm assuming this still works, although you didn't indicate if it did or didn't.) Make sure the box is checked to Open iTunes when this device is connected. You should be all set!

I have to manually open itunes. No error messages pops up, so I can't figure out what's preventing the system from recognizing my ipod. In the system tray in an icon safely remove hardware if I it click my ipod ejects. My ipod still charges as normal.

So you connect the iPod containing a hard drive. I would guess you are using USB, right? Then Windows opens a window (wow, that's repetative) that identifies this as a USB hard drive.
Am I close?
It sounds like you've told the iPod to act in Disk Mode. On the same preferences pane that you are telling iTunes to open, uncheck the box for enable disk mode. the mini should stop telling your computer it is a hard drive.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

Itunes functions properly when I am not signed into my Apple account. As soon as I sign in, it starts freezing and says Itunes not responding. You are logging into the account that you bought those games with, and you haven't changed countries since buying them ? If they don't show in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPod then do they show on the account's purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727 ? If they do then are they hidden from the Purchased tab : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919 ?

There are so many things to try other than the 5 Rs. If you would have kept reading or looked at the other link, you might find something that helps.
And the 5 Rs aren't really "drastic"...
Since your iPod is showing up in Windows, this article specifically addresses the problem you are experiencing...

You may also want to try restarting your computer.

ITunes shuts down when I plug in my iPod

I've used my iPod without a problem since Christmas. For the past week, when I plug in my iPod, iTunes shuts down due to an unnamed error.
I have reinstalled all my USB drivers, removed all of my Apple software twice and reinstalled it twice (once with the guidance of an Apple tech via phone). The Apple tech guy sent me to the Apple store to replace my iPod, which I did. But none of that has fixed the problem.
So now, I'm left with an empty iPod that can't sync with my library because iTunes keeps shutting down when I plug in the iPod. The people at the Apple store said they couldn't help me further because I have a PC. The people at Microsoft won't take any responsibility because iTunes is an Apple product. So, I'm left with a $200 iPod that is suddenly for some unexplained reason, shutting down iTunes. So now, both the iPod and iTunes are worthless.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I'm a singer and depend upon my iPod for rehearsal, so I need it fixed ASAP. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry I wasn't very clear the first time. Changing the Drive Letter is done through Disk Management in Windows. I suggested you open the itunes preferences in hopes that you would then be able to connect your ipod without it crashing.
To change the drive letter:
Since we know this trick works
First open itunes, then select Edit-Preferences and leave this open.
Then, follow the steps [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493]
I use Q, R and T for my ipods so the computer doesn't confuse it with other removable devices.

Itunes application not responding when I plug in my iphone

I am on itunes 8.2 and when I plug in my iphone itunes just goes into application not responding.
I wait for a while and then unplug the phone and it goes back to working again.
On the phone there is no "Sync" message. In fact with the phone plugged in I can access the phones apps just as if it was not plugged in.
But initially when I plug it in, it does the double vibrate and shows the charging graphic so I know the cable is ok.
The phone is already on 3.1 apparently because some new features are there... like selecting multiple photos to email.
But I don't recall ever running any updates in itunes to make it use the new software as I read you were supposed to do.
I don't want to upgrade to itunes 9 because I read so many people having problems with it... but I wonder if the phone is no longer compatible with itunes 8.2
Any help is appreciated.

Do you know if the problems people have reported with itunes 9 was before the 9.1 release?
I've heard tons of people saying they were reverting back to itunes 8.2 because 9 was so bad.
Am a bit nervous about that update because of that.
But an applecare guy told me that the 9.1 was supposed to address those issues. I have just not heard anything about that actually fixing things though. Still seems like a lot of people are dreading the new itunes 9.
If you are an itunes 9 user, did you have any problems with it wiping out your library or any terribly long syncing times?

When I try to open iTunes on my windows 7 computer, it will not open completely before it says its not responding. Sometimes itunes will open, but as soon as i plug in my iPhone 3s it will not respond. I do not have any podcasts on the phone.

On window 7 my itunes stop responding as soon as I connect my ipad or iphone 5 to sync. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but still not working. I tried few suggestion I got from the community with no success. I am on iTunes 11.2.2.3. itunes works fine if I dont have any devices plugged in. tried netsh winsock reset also didnt help. If I go to Edit, preferences, advanced, burning.. to change my options, iTunes freezes up and I have to CtrlAltDel and shut it down. And it always says "Not Responding" I tried just forgetting about the options and putting in the blank CD, but as soon as I press 'Burn Cd' the same thing happens. I tried downloading new versions and all of that, but it still doesn't work. I have had other problems with iTunes in the past but this is the first involving burning. I've even unistall - reinstalled but it doesn't make any difference. It used to burn just fine, and then it started freezing up in the preferences menu, now just today it has started freezing up when i hit 'burn cd'. Any idea how I fix this?

I am having this exact same problem. I've read all the troubleshooting and changed the preferences etc and downloaded new itunes version but i cannot burn audio cds. Anyone know why this is?

Itunes Not Responding when trying to eject Nano

Hello. It's my first time to post here. And that's because I've never had any problems before, but that's not the case anymore.
I recently upgraded itunes to 7.4.3.1. itunes works just fine until I try to add or remove songs or podcasts on my Nano. When I try to do this, it looks as if I can upload or remove songs, yet when I push the eject button to remove the nano, itunes freezes. I must right click on itunes in the taskbar and the not responding window opens and I must shut down itunes. I've left the ipod connected for an hour or more to see if that would help before trying to remove it, but that didn't not help.

I have the same problem. Itunes temporarily hangs when I do almost any activity. Then after several seconds of no apparent activity (and Not Responding in the Task manager), it wakes up.
The problem seems to be tied to Quick Time. Quick Time starts OK but has trouble and fits playing videos. I read in another post about uninstalling Quick Time then installing the stand alone version. Would that be appropriate for this problem?
In the previous version of Itunes and/or Quick Time I had no problems, everythign worked smoothly Thanks for any suggestions.
