ITunes not seeing iPhone. Windows 7

I'm wondering if anybody can help with the following.
I'm running Win7 Home 32-bit with all of the latest updates and also have the latest version of iTunes installed. I'm trying to connect an iPhone to my PC, via iTunes, but it is not recognised by iTunes, and I keep getting an error saying that it cannot read the iPhone.
However, the iPhone does appear in Windows Explorer (apparently as a camera, as I can read the DCIM file and look at the photos there), but as the iPhone is not jailbroken I cannot see any other files. The iphone is running iOS5.
From searching online, it appears that the problem may be that Windows thinks it is a camera, and has atatched a particular driver to it (an MTP driver). Others also suggest that I need to have the phone installed with a different driver (usbappl).(As suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538)
If I uninstall the phone or try and automatically update the driver then it says that there is no better driver.
I have also tried to specifically update it with the usbappl driver (by updaing the driver and using the "have disk" option and then browsing to where the usbappl driver is installed). In this case I get an error saying that "the folder specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device).
Can anybody suggest how I can get Windows to update with the correct driver, or some other way of getting iTunes to see the iPhone.
Many thanks for your help.

If you haven't already done so, work through the entire troubleshooting steps on http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538, including 1-6 at the bottom.  Often restarting the AMDS (step 3) will be necessary.  If all else fails, uninstall iTunes and all of its components as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and reinstall iTunes.

  • Itunes not seeing iphone, vista, USB, error 1611

After 8 hours of work and researching everything on the web and including here, I have restored my Iphone.
Background: Itunes loaded on an toshiba laptop running 32 bit Vista.
After plugging in and my iphone sync, I got the usual update message and finally decided to update. Well during the middle of the update the proceess aborted. I went to restore and that aborted.
    1. I tried an new cable and that did not work and started to get a 1611 error.
    2. I took the iphone to apple genius and he recovered the iphone from the broken restore and my phone was working with all data lost.
    3. I plug the iphone back in at home to restore my back up and Itunes would not see my iphone.
    4. I read serveral sites and articles on this site. I found that none of the articles got to the root problem. Several articles on the site need to be updated.
Here are the results of my finding.
    1. After you find that your iphone will not connect to Itunes ( thus it does not show up in the device section of the left panel), you need to go to the device manager in windows (go to start - start search - type "dev" - select device manager.
2 Open up the Universal System Bus section. You should see two things if your system is working properly when you iphone is plug in. One you should see the apple mobile device usb driver. Two you should see your card reader. You need to have both of these. If you dont have either your your system is not going to reconize your IPhone. I had one driver in there that said "unknow device". This was not the iphone in error!!!! As stated in articles on this site. This was the Card reader software by Realtek on my system. Because i did not have a card reader i could not see my Iphone.
    STEPS to fix.
    1. Shut down.
    2. Unplug all USB devices.
    3. Reboot to safe mode.
    4. Delete out all USB drivers.
    5 Shut down.
    6. This is important!!! unplug your power cord.
    7. This is important!!! take out your battery!!
    8. Let it sit for 5 minutes with out any power.
    9. Put in battery and plug in computer.
    10. reboot the machine to normal startup.
    11. Let it add all the USB drivers.
    12. You should now see your USB card reader. If not try it again.
    13. One you have your USB card reader driver. Plug in your Iphone.
    You should be working.
Another helpful hint. If you reload Itunes like I did. Which was a wasted step. Because the Card Reader was the problem and reloading itunes will not fix this. Take a backup of the registry key that has your Iphone name. You will save some time.
Good Luck and I hope this helps someone.

    technabob,
What version of Windows Vista are you running (32-bit or 64-bit)? Please note that 64-bit versions of Vista are not supported as stated in the minimum requirements:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305703
In addition to iTunes and Quicktime, you will also want to remove/reinstall Apple Software Update and Apple Mobile Device Support as listed in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
If you are still having issues, you may want to test the iPhone in a new user, or use MSCONFIG to see if there is any software that might be conflicting with the iPhone. For more information on using MSCONFIG, see this article:

Are you by chance using a USB hub? I have seen similar issues when using certain USB hubs, especially unpowered ones.
Also did you try a computer restart anywhere in there?
No hub; it's plugged directly into the back of the G5 iMac. No, I didn't restart the iMac. Good idea; I'll do that tonight.

  • Itunes not seeing iPhone through wifi

iTunes used to wirelessly notice my iPhone and I would be able to sync it through wifi but now iTunes only sees my iPhone if it is connected with the cord. how do i fix this problem?

    Having the same problem now.
My iPhone doesn't show up in the sidebar of iTunes anymore.  I had it set to sync over wifi and open iTunes when the iPhone was connected (e.g., checked these two boxes on the Summary Pane).  But now, the phone doesn't show up at all.  Oddly, my iPad shows and syncs fine.  And, despite not being seen by iTuens, my iPhone is connected to my Wifi network and works fine.
I've tried unchecking and rechecking the box for wifi sync, but it doesn't hold.  The phone will show up after I "reset" the check boxes with the phone attached to a cord and then disconnect the cord.  After doing this, I can shut down iTunes and restart it, and the phone shows.  Fine and good.  But after I restart my iMac, the phone doesn't show anymore in iTunes.  My guess is that this is an iTunes problem and not a problem with the wifi or the phone.
Any ideas on how to get my phone to stay showing in iTunes?

  • ITunes not "seeing" iPhone except after reboot (windows vista)

I'm having the most irritating problem with my iPhone and iTunes. Every time I want to sync up, I have to reboot (at least once). For some reason, the USB connection makes that Windows sound like it's connected the device, but then it doesn't show up in iTunes to sync it.
Usually a reboot cures the problem, but I've not ever been able to successfully sync more than one time without a reboot in between.
I've tried all the ideas suggested at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305845
But none of those have helped. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • ITunes not seeing iPhone 5

Despite deinstalling, reinstalling iTunes a number of times and resetting my iPhone a number of times my iPhone 5 is still not detected by iTunes meaning I cannot transfer music. PC recognises device connected but nothing on itunes! I have changed USB ports, I have the latest iTunes software, windows 7 and still nothing works. Someone must have a fix somewhere?

OK, Ironically just after having posted this I thought I would double check the USB Drivers - just in case! Even though PC detected and saw the iPhone I deinstalled Apple and IPhone drivers (iPhone disconnected) and then reconnected the iphone forcing the drivers to be installed!
It worked and can now make use of my 64gb of space!
Control Panel, hardware and sound, device manager. Go to Universal Serial Bus controllers first and right click on apple mobile device USB driver and uninstall. Check the driver tree and ensure there is no "iPhone device" listed in there!
If not, reconnect your iPhone via lightening cable and Windows 7 will auto install driver and you should be away! (I had iTunes open so saw device register!)

  • ITunes not seeing iPhones or iPad

It's been a couple weeks since I last synced apps and podcasts, so decided to to that tonight.
Started iTunes and let it download new stuff.  Noticed that there were no devices present in the left sidebar.  Should see two iPhones and an iPad.
Restarted iTunes a couple times - no joy.
Tried starting a wiFi sync on my iPhone - nothing.
Plugged iPhone via USB to MacBook, still nothing in iTunes.
    Now what?
MacBook's running Mountain Lion and is fully patched.

Problem solved.  Rebooted the MacBook and now iTunes sees my devices.  Very strange.

  • Itunes not seeing iphone 4

My iphone 4 is not showing up in itunes.  My itunes is up to date.  I tried restarting my phone and my computer.  Nothing.  I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard... not sure if that could be causing this.  Any help?

Jennifer thanks, but that's not very helpful.
"more like this" threads aren't ordered and you have to open them to discover the date... like 2 years old!! Sure some are current but wadding through them without order or context is messy and confusing.
The Apple support pages keep pointing back to the basics.... "check your connections, re-start this and that..." etc.
Most users with discussions here are looking for initial guidance... "do I have an issue or is it wider?" ...if it's wider, then great... now all we need is a thread that has a resolution for us!

  • ITunes not recognizing iPhone 5 iO7 on Windows 7

I have exhausted myself dealing with this problem. My iTunes will not recognize my iPhone 5. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in, however, my iTunes does not so I am not able to sync any music. I have tried practically everything I have found on the internet to fix this problem and even the people at the Apple store could not help me with my problem. I have uninstalled and installed all Apple related programs, I have insured that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is working correctly but nothing seems to fix the problem. I just don't know what to do anymore because nothing seems to work. I have followed the suggestions contained in the following discussions but nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help.

    Had this problem this morning.
Once in the past had to erase my iphone and reload it.That was unpleasant.
    This morning had the problem,too.
Plugged in my iphone directly into the Imac (not hub) then clicked shut down on the imac.
Pressed the button in the back while the iphone was still plugged in-and when rebooted iphone was visable in itunes.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'm using a MacBook Air and I just tried this with my laptop - shutting down the computer all the say (not restarting it) and then booting it back up with the phone plugged in. It didn't work but it was worth a shot! Thank you!

I had this exact same problem and just figured out how to fix it. I had to reload the driver on the iphone5 in order for itunes to recognize the device. Follow the steps here to see if you might need to do the same thing. Once I reinstalled the driver, everything works fine and I'm now able to sync with itunes again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen a TON of posts like mine where this is the solution. Unfortunately, I am on a Mac not Windows so the driver isn't the problem.

  • Windows XP not seeing iPhone

Device manager not seeing iPhone. Problem began after upgrade to iTunes 8.0.2.20. USB ports working with all other devices. Computer sees iPod nano as does iTunes. Have uninstalled and reinstalled all iTunes components. usbaapl driver appears in DriveStore but because phone is not recognized cannot point hardware device wizard to the DriveStore folder. iPhone working normally otherwise.
    Any/all suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks, L. Edwards

Windows XP now sees a new piece of hardware but thinks it is a printer.
    I can point it to:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_246F92BBD6449C86FC3F3F28C40D59AC1F69C558
It searches but comes up with "Cannot Install this Hardware" because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.
I am thinking that I may have a corrupt/wrong driver. Would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks,
