ITunes now unuseable???

I recently added Apple TV to my set up, wireless and set to custom synch. I also updated iTunes to 8.2.1.
Now iTunes has become almost impossible to use. Clicking to view anything different i.e going from music to movies or podcasts results in a least a minute of spinning beachball. The same happens when I try and import music or add a movie file, spinning beachball, often leaving me no option but to force quit the application.
Is this likely to be anything to do with Apple TV (I cannot see how, but I will clutch at any straw right now). I've also recently had my broadband speed restricted to 1mb by BT, having exceeded the 'unlimited download' limit!! Again, could this be anything to do with my problem.
My iTunes library is stored on an external HD and weighs in at around 250gb (having recently downloaded season 1-5 of Lost, hence my exceeding my broadband limit!!)
Any help and advice very gratefully received.

I get the problem you have. Just spins.
I also will have it sometimes play a podcast or song but not the one that is labled! e.g select a beatles song and it plays the rolling stones. When I check the show me in finder...it shows the correct file for that song. But I can't play it!
Its broke.
Please Apple help!

Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update. You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time. And of course make a backup of your whole library first. It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates. Better safe...

Ok I got my computer worked on to remove viruses so I had to reinstal itunes now everythings gone from my itunes tried to sync my ipod it won't sync my music ,apps, or pictures back to itunes it says an ipod should only be synced with one itunes library and im supposed to have only one it gives me a choice to erase and sync or tranfer purchases so I click tranfer purchases so I get a error message itunes was unable to load class information from sync services Reconnect or try later I am not sure what to do.

What device are you using?
Do they have a Mac or a PC?
Do they have devices they are using?
What do you want to access? Do you want to sync that information you access?

Upgrade iTunes to the latest version. It should be 10.5.3.

TS1425 My iPod Classic was working fine all day. Came home and uploaded to voice memos via iTunes, now there is no sound coming from my iPod. I've used both headphones and a docking station. The songs don't even begin, they just skip to the next one.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

Before connecting your device to iTunes to sync, double-click the Home button, and close all open apps by sliding up on the thumbnails until all open apps are closed. Then try the sync again.

Then I uncheck a lot of song and synced my ipod again same message appeared. Do I need to buy a new ipod with more memories? Somebody told me to check apply after I unchecked some of the songs but I cannot find the word APPLY. please help I'm not a very technical person.

The Sync button becomes the Apply button, if you change the iPod's settings in iTunes. If you are only unchecking songs in the iTunes music library, you click on the Sync button.
When you select the iPod in iTunes, you see the iPod's Summary screen on the main part of the iTunes window. There is a checkbox there for Sync only checked songs. Did you check that checkbox? If you want iTunes to ignore the songs you unchecked when syncing your iPod, that setting needs to be enabled. If you change that setting, you'll see the the Sync botton has changed to Apply. Click Apply.
That method of unchecking songs works, but it may become annoying over time, as you need to uncheck more and more songs. If you want advice on some other more convenient ways to make it work, you can post back.

you have to go to your atv's settings and remove the sync setup with the in the atvs eyes "old" computer
before you can add the "new" computer as a sync computer
an atv can only be set to sync with 1 and it don't know the "old" computer is not just off
