ITunes often does not transfer "time" from CD

ITunes often does not transfer "time" from the CD -- comes across as "Not available." Other songs on the same CD transfer OK. If there is a "Not available" notation in iTunes, my iPod is unable to play song. Have I "lost" all the previously transferred songs that have "Not available" times? Anyway to recoup them?

Hi one and all....heres a little poser. brought a song from itunes (wifi) but it does not transfer to itunes on the pc when I hook up my ipod touch. I have to manually fill my pod as I have to much groovy music. When I check the music on the pod its there but it does not show when I link it up to itunes...so I cannot even drag it into my music folder..I expect it would work if I was in full sycn mode but too much music . Any ideas??

I purchased songs on two different iTouches at different times. Both iTouches had the same device name. Now I have two Purchased on folders with the same name, each with their respective songs purchased on the seperate iTouches. It looks a little weird.

Mp2 files plays in iTunes, but does not transfer to my iPod

Hi, I have been recording digital radio programs using my Cyrus DAB 8.0. The recordings are on a SD card and are in mp2 format. These easily transfer into iTunes, but do not transfer to my iPod. How can I overcome this. I guess I have to convert the mp2 files, but I do not want to lose quality. The files are sampled at 192KHz. Would they play on an Apple TV? Any help and suggestions please?

You can convert your MP2 files into Apple Loseless. Those files are playable on the iPod and also its a uncompressed format. To do that, you'll have to change some preferences. Go to iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Import. You can change the conversion format there. To convert the songs, select all the songs that you want to convert. Then option click on the selection. There is the convert to Apple Lossless option. And you can delete the old files if you want to.

Mac does not transfer data from external hard drive when first set up and isn't listed on migration assistant

I've just had a new hard drive in my MacBook, luckily I had backed up everything on my external hard drive.
I've just got home and my MacBook set up as a new one and asked me if I wanted to transfer my old data from an external device. I clicked this option, and a box appeared with me to choose my device so I plugged it in and nothing. It was not listed so I couldn't continue. I clicked go back to continue without transferring any data and tried to use migration assistant. I plugged in my external HD again and it was recognised on the desktop with me being able to open it and see my old document, folders and iTunes etc.
I went on to migration assistant and that came up with much the same choice as the first time so I chose the option again to transfer information from my "other device" again there was an empty box so I cannot choose my device.
I then thought maybe I would need to install snow leopard again as when I got the computer back it was only running leopard and when I previously backed up my mac it was running snow leopard.
So I've now got in my snow leopard disk and put in my password to install leopard and it's not installing!
I'm very frustrated and now it's too late to call apple!
Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to go back to the store again as its 30 miles away!

Thanks for the quick reply, Kappy. I did use Carbon Copy Cloner. When I returned the cloned data to the new hard drive I tried starting the computer and I got the logo and the spinning gear. It did not go any further. I also tried starting in safe mode and it would not go to safe mode. I have other bootable volumes on the external drive that I cloned the data to. When I tried migration assistant it would not list the volume that I cloned from the failed hard drive. I can see the users desk top, documents, pictures from the cloned drive.

Itune playlist does not transfer

I've bought a mac mini and started to transfer stuff from my old ibook. When it came to itune, I did a transfer procedure, with Target and all, I tried everything possible way I know to transfer my itune database but only about half of the songs did make it. And none of my playlist at all. Any trick any one? thanks !!!

I read in another post that all I had to do was to go to iTunes, sign out of your id, and then relog back into the id, and then turn iTunes Match back on. Thanks Forum!!!

Front row (with itunes 10) does not show moves from shared library

I have two computers. My office computer contains all of my iTunes content, running iTunes 10. I have a mac mini connected to my television, and my intent is to use Front Row to access the shared library from the office computer. The problem is, when using front Row only a small number of my TV shows and none of my movies appear. I have checked the sharing settings on the source computer.

Exact same problem here.
It has been working fine doing this for years, then around a month ago after no changes to either machine that I know of, about half the content vanished when viewing a shared library.
I seem to have also worsened the issue by trashing and rebuilding the iTunes library from scratch. Since at least before doing this I had some of my Movies and TV shows show, but not all, now I seem to have a tiny amount of movies and none of the TV shows listed.
Checking on the source computer in front row shows all of them present as expected. Completely baffled by this. None of them are showing under odd sections (Say in Music rather than TV Shows) either so I know the meta-data isn't at fault.

ITunes sync does not delete songs from iPhone

I've an older iPhone 4 with only 8GB of memory. (also another iPhone 5s/16G, and iPad/64G and a iPod Classic with 160GB).
The IP4 is always short of memory, so I rotate songs based on a small smart playlist based on "least recently played."
I've NEVER used iTunes Match, or iTunes on the cloud or iTunes Genius, and I've always synced these devices using the same iTunes Library.
Nine albums weren't rotating off the iPhone, so I turned off all music syncs and expected the albums to go away. They remained.
Adding the albums back to the sync had the strange effect of duplicating all the songs in the album. Removing the albums left the ghosts behind.
Any suggestions on how to remove these 9 albums / 85 songs?

Although the the error message in the title of the following Knowledge Base article may make it seem unrelated to your situation, it addresses issues that arise with orphaned files that may still be on your device:

Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
Restore using iTunes.

I am trying to transfer my itunes library from my old Mac to my new Mac; however, all that transfers is the music I downloaded from itunes. It does not transfer the music I downloaded from my cd's.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

Unfortunately it uses the single term "transferring library" for two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration) and relocating media+database (really your whole "library"). Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Apostrophe glyph does not transfer from CS3 to CS2 by inx

Can someone please confirm this: The Apostrophe glyph does not transfer by inx from CS3 5.0.2(640) to CS2 4.0.5(688).
It does transfer by inx from CS2 4.05(688) to CS1 3.0.1(838).
It also does roundtrip in CS3, CS2, and CS.
This is not a problem for me now that I know about it. I just wanted to report it for the benefit of others, as this is a commonly used character.
I tested this with Times (T1) in a very simple file containing just the apostrophe glyph followed by the lower case "x". These tests were conducted in Tiger 10.4.11.
It seems like it may be related to the similar problem with bullet glyphs that has been mentioned by Sandee and others in this forum.

I can reproduce the report by Klaus of being able to put in the "missing" apostrophe with a text editor. But using TextWrangler I was unable to find the "missing" apostrophe in the CS3 inx by searching for "'" or "0027" (the Unicode value for the apostrophe). Now, since IDCS3 is able to open its own inx including the apostrophe glyph, it must be encoding it in the inx in some special way. Exploring the IDCS2 inx for a test file with the string "CHICKEN 'N WAFFLES" shows that it is saved as "c_CHICKEN"+"&apos"+";N WAFFLES". Then searching from the top for the string "&apos", finds 5 instances of it. While a simillar search for "&apos" in the CS3 inx finds only one instance of it. Clearly IDCS3 and IDCS2 write their inx files differently. No surprise there. Searching the CS3 inx for *parts* of "CHICKEN 'N WAFFLES" locates: <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"> <pcnt>c_CHICKEN </pcnt> </txsr> <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" ligt="b_f" font="c_Helvetica" OTca="b_f"> <pcnt>e_SSSq</pcnt> </txsr> <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"> <pcnt>c_N WAFFLES</pcnt> </txsr> Now if I paste in a copy of the lines : <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"> <pcnt>c_N WAFFLES</pcnt> </txsr> after the first occurrence and save the file from TextWrangler, it will then reopen in IDCS3 with the text string "CHICKEN ''N WAFFLES" (note the two apostrophes). But in the case of the string " 'x" as the only contents of the text frame where the apostrophe *does* transfer from CS3 to CS2 it is encoded this way: <txsr prst="o_u6b" crst="o_u68" ptfs="c_Regular" ptsz="U_18" ligt="b_f" font="c_Times (TT)" OTca="b_f"> <pcnt>c_ '</pcnt> </txsr> <txsr prst="o_u6b" crst="o_u68" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Times (TT)"> <pcnt>c_x</pcnt> </txsr> Note the "&apos" in that code, which is what CS2 is able to import. Conclusion: IDCS3 does indeed save the apostrophe in the inx in a completely different way than IDCS2, and in different ways under different circumstances. So the bug is that Abobe forgot to take into account how the new way of writing the apostrophe would affect IDCS2's ability to import it. Al

When I transfer a playlist, where I modified the songs ending times, it does not transfer as edited to my idvd slide show project. It reverts back to original song times. I am trying to edit songs to match slide show segments.
Any suggestions?

Use Garageband to edit the songs. Save them as new files for use with your slide show. The modifications made in iTunes do not modify the song files, they only tell iTunes how to play the songs.
