ITunes on locked disk?

Just got new computer and created a new user account on it but now I cant use iTunes. Get error message saying it's on "locked" disk! I'm the Admin and the sole owner on computer. Help!

Select the locked disk from the Finder - Get Info - at the bottom of the window under 'Sharing and Permissions' there is an icon of a lock - select the lock - enter your admin password when prompted- make the required changes in the 'Privilege' column.

  • Error message says Itunes on locked disk or no write permissions

I have used ITUNES recently but today when I started it up I get the following error message.
"the folder "Itunes" is on a a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this folder"
I tried to download a new version, same problem.  HELP.

Hi there:  I also have Windows 7. Anyways try this:
Right click on the ITunes shortcut desktop icon.
    Choose "Properties"
**This will now open your tab for Itunes on  the Shortcut tab.  (look at the top, you'll see tabs like "Security, Details, Previous Versions" etc)
At the bottom of this page you will see 3 buttons:  "Open File Location", "Choose Icon" and "Advanced".
    Click on "Advanced"
Check the box that says "Run As Administrator".
I hope this works. It worked for me a couple minutes ago.

  • Itunes says locked disk and I can not open? I have mac book pro... what is up?

when I click on the itunes icon on my sidebar--- says itunes is on a locked disk or I do not have write permissions for this folder.... what is up with this?

Try doing a click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • How to fixed locked disk and written permission

Who has an idea how to fixed itunes folder locked disk and written permission.

    Hi Tony T1
I believe I have the same problem? This external disk I'm locked out from contains my Time Machine backups
At this point, I'm not 100% sure what's going on? - as I've been battling this off/on for a good while!
    Besides my flailing, I tried:
accessing as a network disk, using another machine w/ Lion and Mountain Lion, calling Apple's tech support, visiting the local Apple Store, Running Disk Warrior, startup with "option" a few million times.  Also startup with /cmd + r/ .  Its been so long I can't remember : Oh, login as root didn't get me very far?
I tried the fix you described, and was able to remove the recovery partition from the external USB.
As per Robert's post, since I was still locked, I repartitioned the external HD  -- yet the repartitioning failed?
"Couldn't modify partition map because file system verification failed"
(No rush, as I've been getting my ***-kicked since September, but I'd be happy to hear any advice you may be able to impart)
    Thank you kindly.

  • TS1717 unes, i have windows 8, i get the message, "the itunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.  how did this happen, how do i fix this?

the message"The itun, library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file". i have windows 8. how why did this happen? how do i correct this and prevent another occurance?  I am able to access itunes on my i5, ipad, and my old i4 that i use solely as my ipod now. At the time  problem occurred, i was connected to ext hard drive that hold over 190GB music, to add to my library. I am now unable to add to my library using my laptop.  any advise/help is greatly appreciated!!

I just had the same problem and was able to fix it after trying a couple of things I found after a search.
The solution that worked for me:
Find iTunes folder - it should be in C:\Program FIles (x86) or similar depending on your operating system
Right click the entire folder (no need to open it) and click properties
    Click the security tab
Click edit and highlight the user name under which you logged in.
Click the box next to full in the allow column, which should check everything
    Click apply
    Open iTunes
    This worked for me.

  • How To Fix: "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."

I can't reopen my iTunes after I have to force quit when it does not respond. I get this message:
"The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I've read to do the solutions. I right clicked on both the iTunes and Music folder and went to info for each. On both the lock at the bottom of the Get Info was locked. All of my users including admin can read and write all files within those folders. They are even a shared folder. I clicked on the lock to unlock it, typed in my admin password, and went to the gear to apply to all files inside. After doing that I keep getting the saved message.
I tried another way that I've found online to move my ituneslibrary folder to the desktop and then open my iTunes. In theory the iTunes is supposed to ask for where the iTunes library is. Once that is prompted you quit iTunes and drag the iTunes Library folder back to the folder from the desktop and reopen iTunes to apprently solve the problem. However, when I move the iTunes Library file to the desktop and try to reopne iTunes the icon just keeps bouncing and when I right click the application does not respond.
This problem is only resolved if I restart/shut down my macbook pro which is a 15-inch Core 2 Duo with intel. It will be 5 years old in December. I currently have Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5. This problem started in late December.

If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.
There are more detailed instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451#
It will show you how to re-build your iTunes database file.

  • I get this message... "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions to this fold, I get this message... "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions to this fold

My MacBook was stolen, and after a find my iphone erase instruction I got the erase started message, suppose all info on that computer was vanished.
I then bought a new MacBookPro. I has a TimeMachine back up but due to battery cutoff it was blocked and the time machine could not be accessed. I could however copy to my new computer the information.
question 1 - How do I initiate on my new computer using info that I have copied already on the hard drive to make it transfer as though it was from another computer...?
question 2 - When I try to open itunes i get the message "the folder itunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write accessability to the folder...
I already downloaded the new itunes but even after that the message continues to appear.... what can I do to make itunes work back with my previous library...?

Perhaps you should ask this question in the MAC forum. I have asked the administrators to move your post to a more appropriate forum.

  • ITunes won't open, I get this message: The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.

    iTunes won't open.
I get this message: The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this file.

This may indicate a corrupt preference file with iTunes trying to open the wrong location. Try holding down shift as you launch iTunes then choose the correct file, normally <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. See iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.

  • I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes  in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill  pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.

  • I can't open itunes it's giving an error "The Itunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for file.

yes itunes will not open it gives me an error that the file itunes library.itl is locked or on a locked disk or i don't have write permission for it.

Make sure that you have closed all programs that might be using the iTunes library.itl file. I would hit CTRL + ALT + DEL buttons and enter the Task Manager - from there end any unnecessary program running in the background.
Next try to start iTunes again. If it fails, restart PC, do the same with Task Manager and try to open iTunes again.

  • After upgrading to the latest version of itune, I get this message when trying to open itunes: "The I'tunes Library File is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to write for this file.

After importing the latest version of itune, I now get this message:  "The I-tunes library file is locked, on a locked disk , or you do not have permission to write for this file.  How do I resolve this?

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
also, even if it seems unrelated, try the steps in this support article: iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
