ITunes on Windows XP not responding

Well, I would love to use iTunes in future on my computer
BUT
-internet radio: as soon the network stalls (either server side or internet itself (p.e. 24h-disconnect)) and the stream has to reconnect, iTunes would run on 100% CPU and would be very non-responsive.
THATS VERY ANNOYING - as i have to kill iTunes via TaskManager then...
-when I click on "Preferences"->"Advanced"->"Burning"
iTunes wont respond anymore - it even makes Windows XP Explorer stall a little (Taskbar doesnt work anymore, some apps wont start until iTunes is killed)
Asus A7N8X-E, Athlon XP 2600 @ 1.9GHz, 512 MB
Windows XP HE SP2 (all updates&hot fixes installed)
iTunes 6.0.4.2
"stable" ADSL with 2Mbit down / 256 Kbit up
Allthough I think noone of Apple cares... just wanted to let you know, that I think iTunes seems to suck on Windows...
Asus A7N8X-E, Athlon XP 2600 @ 1.9GHz, 512 MB Windows XP

Itunes opens, I can see my library, but then it does not respond, just freezes.
Mackspank, we're going to try an experiment to determine if this is to do with a dodgy itunes preference file on your PC. (this isn't a cure, it's a "diagnostic procedure". if we get the right result from the experiment, we'll try for a cure.)
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
does itunes launch properly (without freezing) from inside the new account?

I recently created an account and bought a movie. But any time I press "Play" iTunes freezes and will not respond at all.
I have tried both uninstalling the software and reinstalling it, I have tried to run the software in safemode, and I have tried to change the Quicktime settings to see if that helps.
Nothing has worked. It always does the same thing, where it freezes the moment I tell it to "play".
I have tried to use my other computer instead, going through the same process and I got the exact same result where it freezes.
Therefore it has to be something to do with the software, because the computers use different graphics cards, yet it responds the same.

    Hi Canon-Thought!
I have an article here for you that deals with this exact issue. You may have already completed many of the steps that this article will suggest, but look over it to see if it suggests something you haven't already tried:
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Also, I suggest paying close attention to the list of programs that you would need to uninstall, in order, so that you can fully uninstall iTunes and all related components from your computer. If those programs and steps are not followed exactly, you may end up with issues using iTunes.
If this issue only happens with one singular movie, you may need to report that there is an issue with your purchase. We have an article for doing that, and it can be found here:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase

To connect my ipod to itunes with windows 8 not see the option to add to add songs from itunes library. As I can solve this?

Since you can only sync your iPod with one computer at a time, you'll need to copy the contents currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to accomplish this task.

  • Itunes 9.0.1 not responding

I recently upgraded to itunes 9.0.1 on my mac.
I've never had any problems with itunes before.
But now, when I open it immediately tries to load genius, gets as far as "gathering information from your library" and then it freezes and the little "not responding", spinny wheel thing comes up.
I've tried to stop it from attempting to load genius. But I don't seem to be able to.
The only way I can get out of it is to force quit itunes.
I know all my music is still there, because I can search for it in the finder. It opens in itunes and starts to play. But itunes is essentially frozen and it will only play the one song at a time, when I open them through the finder.
I really need to get this sorted out as I'm going insane without my music.
Can anyone please help resolve the issue?

  • ITunes 11.0.2 Not Responding

I have a rather large iTunes library, 514 Gb & 81,000 files. I'm trying to clean up the metadata, primarily the genres, and iTunes continually stops responding. I can change one group of songs or albums without a problem, but the next group I just get the "spinning beach ball". When I Force Quit iTunes and reopen, the metadata has changed. This is a major annoyance considering that iTunes is advertised as not having a limit on the size of a iTunes library. Any ideas?

I've had similar happen to me today (March 12, 2013).  I added some new mp3s to iTunes and decided to force iTunes match so my work PC and iPhone would have the files immediately. When I did that, about half of the files were in Match, and iTunes has gone unresponsive.  I've found that if I'm quick at startup, I can click the x next to updating iTunes match in the display window, then click on store and turn off iTunes Match, I can use the software without it going unresponsive.  If I do not turn off iTunes Match in the store drop down, it will go unresponsive.
That's my best suggestion as of right now.

    Hi guys,
Ive recently updated to Itunes 12.0.1 (PC) and its not responding at all. Tried the restarts etc and still I get the little loading circle going round and round forever. The only way to stop it is to force stop via task manager.
    Any ideas?

  • ITunes Party Shuffle feature not responding

The Party Shuffle feature in iTunes will not respond to any changes I try to make. I tried reinstalling iTunes which did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

  • ITunes and other applications "not responding" after impoting CD's

Hi....After I import songs from a my CD collection into into my iTunes (version 7.02) library, many applications, including iTunes, freeze up and are "not responding", and I'm forced to CTRL-ALT-DEL to "end task" on the unresponsive applications. For example, if I have my AOL browser running, I can no longer open new web pages after importing a CD on iTunes. Also, after closing the applications (via CTRL-ALT-DEL), nothing happens when I double click on them again to reopen the programs (again, including itunes itself). To be able to run the programs again I have to either restart the computer or log off my user ID and log back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I am having similar problem. After I imported songs
from CD and exit itunes, I try to log off and my
computer freezes up. It doesn't log off, screen goes
    black. I can't do anything, not even ctr-alt-del. I
have to push button to power off. Does anyone know
    whats going on? Help
Ok, I'm embarrassed that I didn't try this fix before posting my initial question, as any sane Windows user should know to try this troubleshoot early on for many Windows problems: Running the disk defragmenter solved the problem of my PC feezing after I imported a CD into iTunes. Katikat..I'm not sure how close your issue is to the problem I was having, but I suugest trying it if you haven't already. If you've never run the disk defrag it's easy: START -- All Programs -- Accessories -- System Tools -- Disk Defragmenter, then choose your hard drive(s). Depending on how much stuff is on your hard drive and how long it's been since you last defrag, this can take anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. Not sure if this will help with your problem, but worth a try. Best of luck. Piachet

  • Adobe Reader 11 w/Windows 7 not responding

Why does Adobe Reader 11 fail to respond sometimes?  Re-installing allows it to function several times then we get a "not responding" message.  A plank screen is displayed and the number of pages but NO text!  Using repair produces the same results.  Upon 1st use of the repaired/reinstalled reader 11 we also get the adobe message "Cannot find or create the font "Times New Roman".  Some characters may ot display or print correctly".  The text is mostly displayed at this point.  The second attempt to display the same PDF or another displays completely w/out any error message at all.  At some point during the testing process Adobe Reader 11 stops working!  Restarts don't help.  Shutdowns don't help.  Seems only a re-install or repair allows us to correctly view our PDF document a number of times before we have to repeat the process.  Is help available?

  • ITunes and Windows will not recognize iPod Nano 3rd Generation

I've been on this ALL day. Neither Windows or iTunes will recognize iPod. I have uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.... I don't know how many times.
iPod is new. Was ok to sync music and photos last week.. but now nothing. Any ideas anybody... this is driving me nuts.
When plugging in iPod - it beeps and then right away says it is ok to disconnect and beeps again... and iPod goes on... and then charges up.
I was skeptical in buying an iPod for the kids... and now am disappointed. Please somebody... change my mind!!!!

I've been having a similar issue with my iPod. My iPod will not play songs. Basically, the song or podcast will appear on screen, but is stuck at 0:00 and will not play.
When I connected my iPod to my computer, it was not recognized by iTunes and it did not appear in My Computer. I checked the Windows Device Manager, and the device did appear there. Strangely enough, the device did appear in My Computer as a removable disk only after I closed out Device Manager. I'm wondering if I need to restore my iPod. How do I do so without iTunes?

  • Reinstalled Itunes for Windows will not recognize ipod touch 3rd generation.

Itunes for Windows and PC will not recognize my ipod touch 3rd generation.  Also it will not fully charge using a brand new apple brand power adapter and cable. I have already uninstalled all Apple software on PC and reinstalled.  I've tried every step suggested by Apple online iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant.

the best thing i think you could do is go to an apple store or uninstall itunes and reinstall it one more time and see what happens

  • Unable to Burn CDs in iTunes for Windows: (Will not fit, but it should.)

I am attempting to fix an issue with a friend's iTunes for Windows. Although previously this computer using this media was able to burn audio CDs through iTunes, recently, an error has appeared before any burn. When loading the proper amount of time to fit on a CD, iTunes claims:

"Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them?"
"This will require more than one CD to complete."

  • Itunes and windows do not recognise any of my devices(iPod nano, iphone. 3G) yet they still charge from the PC?

My iPhone 3GS does not appear on the source list or in windows so I cannot sync it to my itunes. However the device is charging and the cable used works well as I often use it to charge all of my devices. I have tried this on multiple computers and it does not work on either which suggests to me it is a problem due to my itunes account settings or something. How can I make my device recognised? I have read and tried the steps from apple support.

  • ITunes and System Preferences not responding since upgrade

Since Ive upgraded to 10.7 my MacBook Pro has slowed down (SpotLight is reporting indexing finished).  iTunes and a host of programs report not responding and after 1-2 mins fire into life then report not responding.
I've noticed that the UserEventAgent and loginwindow processes are taking up lots of RAM and I keep getting the error:
kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
Also, at one stage the machine rebooted on its own and reset all values back to default.....
Any one else seeing these issues?

Got around the problem.....  Had to re-install Lion via the recovery console (3 hours!!!!!).  Is Lion about to become another VISTA!
