Itunes only imports 20 seconds

When I put in a CD to add to music library, itunes only imports about 20 seconds or so of each song (although when you look at the bit that displays the CD info, it lists all the songs properly). I have tried with several CDs. It is driving me mad, please help.

hi Maria!
I don't have a lot of information about your system, so my advice is going to have to be general. see:

  • Itunes only imports a few seconds of each song

Hi ... i'm really struggling with this problem!
whenever i import a song from a CD, itunes only imports a few seconds of each song and moves onto the next .. so on & so forth. It only take a few second to completely import the entire CD.
However the 'imported' songs don't play ... itunes just whizzes thru all the songs in 2 sec. the time duration for each song is '789:57:13'.
this has occurred a few times in the past but seems to be fixed by a restarting my mac or reloading itunes from the .dmg file. which can be very annoying to say the least!
I need a more long term solution! any assistance is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers

I'm importing from 'factory' CDs .... i've deleted Itunes and reloaded it again and it seems to be ok, but from experience its not gonna last ...... the last time i had to shut down and restart 4 times to get it to work!
Frustrating ....... not to say the least!
    Help!

  • ITunes only imports part of a song

I've tried uploading two cd's today and it begins to import all songs fine.
Then when approx. half the songs are imported, iTunes only imports a few seconds of each remaining song. I can end up with anything from1 second of a song to 2 minutes of a song that should be 4 minutes long.
I've run diagnostics and it passed all the tests, so I don't know what to do now?
ps I have the latest version of iTunes.

It is a bug. Some folks have found that putting the import settings on WAV corrects the problem. After you verify the WAV files are complete, you can convert to your preferred format.
If that does not help and you are tired of fussing with it, rip your CDs in another program, e.g. Windows Media Player, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

  • When importing from CD, iTunes only imports the first few seconds

    Hi,
Does anyone know why when I import a CD into iTunes it only imports the first few seconds of the track rather than the whole track? How can I fix this?
    Thanks

Jimmy, What happens when you rip the same CD with a different program on the same computer, such as Windows Media Player?

  • ITunes only imports half the song+running very slow!

Ok, so I've been reading through these postings and it looks as though many are experiencing the same issues! When I import a song to iTunes only portions of the file are imported, then iTunes skips ahead and downloads the next song. Also, the application runs very slowly and takes a long time to load. Are there any indications that suggest these issues will be resolved with the next update? Does anyone know when to expect the next version of iTunes? Will going to the Apple Store help my cause? I just spent $300 and I want this to work. What should I do? Also, it says I'm running v 6.0.0.18???

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting it from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • Why is itunes only importing a few songs out of many in itunes music folder and then creating a new folder named "music" contianing those few songs?

This problem has come up after installing a new hard disk to replace a failed one.  I restored the music just fine but iTunes only recognizes a few of the song tracks and then creates a new folder within iTunes called "music"  that contains those few songs.  Tried deleting the .itl and .xml files and reimporting via "Add Library Folder" option with similar results.

  • Itunes only imports a few seconds of each song.  Help.

I just loaded up my Itunes software, and tried importing some of my CDs into my Itunes library. But it only transfers a few seconds of each song before moving on to the next one.
Does anyone know how to correct this? I've reinstalled the software once already, but nothing changed.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem on 1 PC but it imports OK on Itunes installed on my laptop.

  • Itunes only imports some of my songs

When I drag my library from my music folder into my iTunes library, only 401 of my songs get imported into iTunes.
Why is this happening and how can I get all of my music into iTunes so I can synch my iPod?

I downgraded to version 6, was able to import the library file. There's clearly a bug with version 7 when it comes to importing large library files.

  • ITunes only imports part of myMusic folder

I want to add all my music files onto iTunes. All my music files are in my "myMusic" folder (on an external HDD), with subfolders by artist.
I used "add Folder to Library..." to do this. About half of the tunes uploaded. That's it. no errors, etc. Missing folders can be added manually one at a time but it will take forever to do the whole library this way.
How do I make sure the ENTIRE library gets uploaded???

This is the same problem I have as well. I just started having problems this last week importing files and folders. I will try and run an import and it doesnt bring anywhere near the songs I choose to load into ITunes.
I have tried importing folder by folder, but folders with large amounts of songs dont ever get imported. What do I do to get around this. I was readin around here and there were some people saying that it could be due to the upgrade and the difference the new ITunes has with dealing with write/read only files.
Someone help me here im dying without my IPod working properly!
Thank you for any help or advice someone brings to the table.

  • Itunes only importing half a tune?!

    Hi
I'm pretty new to itunes etc and I have an issue which I need help with.
When I import an album from my pc, it only transfers half of some tunes however if you play the same tunes from the original pc file via a standard media player, the same song plays in full. Any idea why it isn't importing the whole file?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure your partial track playing is the same thing as I'm getting. For a song that stops short, try "get info", go to the "options" tab, and see if there's a start and stop time difference compared to the actual length of the song. If that's the problem, I'll leave it to the smarter people here to help you fix your entire collection, versus changing one song at a time.
And the error correction that I'm talking about can be found in Edit.. Preferences, Advanced tab, Import tab. Try changing it and see... (I kinda doubt that's the problem, though.)

  • Only imports seconds a song...how to fix PLEASE!

This has happened before, but I don't remember how I fixed it...believe it or not!
anyway, i have a CD(bought from a store, not burned)that will not import or play properly on itunes. I hit the play button and it just keeps going from song to song without playing any of them. It also imports them that way. If I look in my library at the particular song it will show that it recorded 789:57:13. I don't get it and can't figure out how to change this to import the entire song.
by the way, every song, no matter the original length, comes up with this same time.
    thanks!

I honestly thank you for your input, and ideas.. however I have some problems with some of your comments (see below). No hurry, I found a program that will rebuild scratched CD's (as best as they can be rebuilt), so I use the good copy to import into Itunes, eliminating the need to use I-tune's broken error correction option.
interesting. primarily we should be looking for
componentry issues that could affect both drives
    then.
Why is it, when several people have the same or similar issues, support people look for problems with all their computers, and not look into the product itself?
since you've got a home built PC, you go directly to
the manufacturers of the various components to get
the latest updates. (although it also makes sense to
head to Windows Update to check to see if there are
any hardware updates lurking there ... that's
actually where i pick up most of the updates to
    belladonna's third-party componentry.)
All of my components have been updated/upgraded with the exception of the LITEON drive, which, by the way is not normally used to import CD's into I-tunes, but the Sony (which is the newest firmware) is, and this problem happens on BOTH drives.
so head to the website of your Motherboard's
manufacturer to check to see if there are any updates
available for you BIOS or chipset drivers for your
    make and model.
    Done...
also head to NVidia's website to see if there are any
video driver updates available for your NVIDIA
    GeForce 6200.
What on earth would cause you to think that my VIDEO card would cause one itsy bitsy optional function of the APPLE import (CD error correction)product to malfunction? Would the video firmware on an Apple computer cause such a problem?? Maybe I'll not buy one if that's the case.. That's kinda like saying "my tooth hurts, I'd better check the air in my tires on the car"
    BUT.. I did it anyway.
the following document may be of some assistance:
Updating the drivers on your Windows PC
I am intimately familiar with updating/upgrading/PC's, Drivers, Firmware, building PC's, and supporting other PC's for 30 plus years.
if still no joy with importing with error correction
on, we'd better doublecheck on firmware for the
    drives too.
both drives have had the firmware updated, and nope... NO JOY...
Lite-On does have a firmware available for
    download for your LITE-ON LTR-16102B ...
unfortunately, there's no indication i can find of
whether that's a newer firmware revision than the one
you've already got. so it might be worth checking in
with Lite-On to see if it's a newer version or not.
i can't find any links at Sony for your SONY DVD RW
DW-Q30A (although i could find ones for your
old Sony model). but it might still be worth
contacting Sony support to see if there's a newer
firmware than the Rev YYC1 that you currently have.
I'm beginning to think that someone doesn't want to even look at the I-tunes product, to possibly see if maybe, JUST MAYBE there may be a problem with it?? OR... even perhaps the documentation (documentation?, documentation?, WHAT documentation???) might not be correct or perhaps incomplete?
Still NO JOY when trying to use the error correction when importing a badly damaged CD.
    Thanks Again
OH, and to the other fella that said that "using error correction on a good CD may fail"... holy moley... please explain how the program would FAIL if it finds NO errors... in technical terms, please.

  • ITunes is only importing small parts of songs

Hopefully this hasn't been posted, already, I checked and didn't see any topics specific to this.
Alrighty, so I imported some WMA file songs that I had into iTunes.. however later on I noticed that iTunes had only imported the first 2 minutes or so of the song. For example one of my songs was 5 minutes long, but iTunes only imported the first 1:56min. of it. Is there a problem with my iTunes settings, or is it something else?

I forgot I posted this on here. I figured out why mine wasn't working. I had the speed set wrong for converting my songs from WMA to the iTunes format. It was set on 160, when it should have been on 192.

  • My music is on a nas loaded by Windows Media Player in WAV. When I import into Itunes only the songs appear no album name etc.

My music is on a nas. Loaded using windows media player in WAV.
When I import into Itunes only the record apears, no Album name etc
How can can I see all the details

Information is often stored as tags embedded in the file.  WAV does not support tagging. I don't know how WMP works but iTunes keeps its own database about media.  For many audio formats, track information will be stored both in iTunes' database and in the file itself as tags.  With formats such as mp3 most tags (not all) will 'travel' with the file when copied.  This does not happen with WAV where the information is only stored in the player application's database.
