ITunes only opens when shift key is held

Last week iTunes started acting up and would not open. The service starts but that is it. I have tried just about everything I have found here in the forums. The difficult part is I don't get any pop up messages to help. The only way I have managed to get iTunes to open is to hold the shift key down and select the library file i want to use. I have to do this every time I open iTunes.

What's the OS version?
As a test to better isolate the cause, create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.

Log out and log in to the new account. Does this problem recur in the new account? If not, the problem is caused by something in the normal account. It is probably a user setting, in this case. Are you sure it is not the current setting +Exposé - Show Desktop+ being set to use the Right Shift key?

    Just to check a few things, when you removed your iTunes program did you only remove iTunes? You should also remove 3 accompanying programs along with it.
    Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
    1) Apple Mobile Device Support
    2) Apple Software Updates
    3) Quicktime
    4) iTunes
    Then restart your computer, go to www.itunes.com and download the install file again. That should resolve the issue, but if you've tried that please let me know

I got  a new ipad apple 2 and I wanted to set up itunes on it by syncing it but do not want itunes to open when I plug it in right away and can not fix it .     Click on your iPad in the sidebar in iTunes, scroll down to the "Options" section, and uncheck "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected."

  • ITunes not opening when device connected

    About a week ago, iTunes stopped opening when I connected my iPhone.  If I then open iTunes manually, the device will be recognized and will sync.  I checked in the system preferences and my Login Items had iTuneshelper checked, but the icon was a blank piece of paper and on the righ margin there was a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.
    I don't necessarily want iTunes to open when I connect my iPhone, but I would like to be in control of if it does or doesn't.
    How do I set this straight?

    Select the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window.
    Select the Summmary tab from the menu.
    Select or deselect:  Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
    And from the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Devices tab.
    You can select to have the iPhone sync automatically (or not) there.
    Or, right or control click the iPhone under Devices then make a selection.

    There is an option to set a passcode for the entire iPhone.  You can use the following steps to set this up:
    You can configure a passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using Settings > General > Passcode Lock.
    Once enabled, you will be prompted for the passcode whenever you:
    Turn on or restart the device
    Wake the device
    Unlock the screen
    Note: You can specify the amount of time the screen must be locked before requiring a passcode.

  • Flash Pro CS 5.5 will only open when I open as Admin

    For some reason Flash Pro CS 5.5 will only open when I open as Admin.  If I try to open it normaly or by clicking on a fla nothing happens except a program called WerFault.exe and Flash.exe show up in my Task Manager then close.  I get no report that something is wrong though I know werfult is window's problem reporting program.  When I open as admin Flash Pro works fine so I do not understand what is going on.  It worked fine yesterday and I have made no installations or updates since then.
    Any suggestions?

    Sounds like you installed it for standard users, you use a standard user account and you changed something while you were logged on as an admin. If you did anything as an admin to make a file Flash writes (configs, etc) then they can become unable to be utilized again by anything other than the administrator.
    As administrator, you can right-click on a folder, open up properties, use the security tab, advanced at bottom, owner tab at top, edit button, select your username, check "Replace owner on all subcontainers and objects" then apply and keep hitting apply/ok. That will reset ownership of all the files back to the user you designate which shouldn't require administrator privs.
    Additionally, as administraotor, you can go in properties->security tab->edit button, select your user and make sure they have full control permissions.

    When you say  "could not be opened"- what are you referring to?  A double click of the mouse should view the clicked image in Loupe view- the same as pressing [E] on the keyboard for an enlarged view. (And a second double-click will take you back to library grid view.)
    To "open" an image in the Development module requires you to select the image then press [D] or click on the [Develop] button.
    When you say "could not be ...moved" -what are you referring to?  Are you trying to move an image file from its place in a folder to another folder? Are you just wanting it in a collection? When you drag an image to a collection you are only placing a link to the image in the collection- not actually moving any file. The image will stay exactly where it is in its original folder and will remain as a thumbnail preview in the Library Grid view.
    Are you having any "mouse" problems that may be changing its actions in LR ?
    Do you see an exclamation mark on any image borders ?

    just one small open icon. Currently if you click anywhere on the
    tab it opens. If you click the tab again it closes. This behavior

  • New SSD only boots when option key held down.

    I recently cloned the original HDD in my mid-2009 MBP [2,53] to a brand new SSD. I put the SSD in an external enclosure, formatted and then cloned.
    Then I put replaced the internal HDD with the SSD and put the HDD to rest in a drawer forever. If I hold down option upon startup, I'm able to choose the new SSD and launch. But if I just turn my MBP on, I simply get a white/grey screen.
    Not a giant problem, but not sure why it would not just boot normally. Is there some kind of step required to make the new SSD the default startup drive?

    i updated my iphone 4s and tried connecting it to my mac but itunes wont open at all, so i updated mac software as well as itunes, and itunes still won't open up when i connect my phone.

  • Drawing Tools Acting As If Shift Key Being Held Down

    Small problem here with Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0.0. When drawing square, oval, etc., the shapes are coming up as if the Shift Key was being held down. This also happens when trying to draw a box to place a digital signature. Check my keyboard, and there was nothing stuck in it that might be pressing the Shift key. Tested out by using Microsoft Paint to draw lines and they seem to work fine, so I think the problem is only in Adobe. I couldnt find anything online regarding this issue, which was kinda hard to put into words anyways into a search engine. Ive tried running the repair installation of Adobe, but no result. Any idea what might be causing this?

    Yes, that looks all like symptoms of a pressed Shift button.
    If you want to uninstall and reinstall Firefox then make sure to delete the Firefox program folder to make sure that there aren't any leftover files in it.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

    Just to cover all of your bases, are you sure that the USB cable is working and plugged into a proper USB location? I'd plug it directly into the USB port on your MacBook, not into a USB Hub.
    Also, go to your Apple Menu after you connected your iPhone, open up "About this Mac." Then click on More Info. Click on USB on "contents". Your iPhone should show up in the USB list as "iPhone."
    If you don't see it, there might be an issue with your USB cable or port. Just get the USB cable replaced. If it's the port, then that's outside of my skill set, but I'd make an Apple Genius appointment to fix it. If you see your iPhone, then the cable is fine, and your issue is probably with iTunes.
    Go to iTunes, Preferences, then click on Devices button. Make sure that the Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from automatically syncing is not checked.
    These are the basic things. If we can't make it work, then post back here, and someone will reply with the next thing to do.

    Ok, in iTunes 8.2.1, under Devices, I have Disable automatic syncing checked, and under my iPhone's Summary page, Automatically sync iPhone when connected is both unchecked, and for some reason, disabled.
    Yet every time I connect my iPhone, iTunes bloody opens anyway. This only seems to have started happening with the last update or two of iTunes. Does anyone know how to stop this... it's driving me and a bunch of other folks crazy.
