ITunes opens as if it erased all data whereas all still stored in lib

Hi there,
when I open iTunes (7.01), all is blank (no more music, settings, podcasts, purchases) as if I just downloaded it.
However, all data (music/video/podcasts) still exist in
c:/Documents.../my music...iTunes.
When I try to sync my iPod, iTunes says that my iPOd is linked to another library.
Except from importing song by song in iTunes, how can I reconnect to the relevant original library?
BR

hi
This is an amateur solution, but I am an amateur, and
I may have justed created doubles of my entire
library, but it seems to have solved the problem that
several people, including me, have mentioned in the
last few days on this forum.
In i-Tunes go into the Edit menu, then Preferences
and then Advanced. Check the i-tunes music library
location in that window. Remember it or write it
down.
Now close all that and open the File menu. Click on
Add folder to library and then browse to the i-tunes
library folder you have just located. This will then
take a few seconds to refill your library. Panic
over! I think!
btw I called an Apple helpdesk about this and they
said they’d never heard of the problem, nor did they
have any solution for it.
hope it works for you
andy
Andy,
thanks for the tip!
It worked well.
Only drawback is I have to re-insert my old columns, but I can live with that.
Best regards!

I have been having problems with my atv 3 not transmitting/receiving 5.1 surround. Whether I stream from my computer or watch movies, I am getting no 5.1 audio. The atv won't even show the option for surround. I tried to restore and reset the device but it didn't help.
I haven't had any problems with missing apps or freezing or anything similar to what you are experiencing. This update has many bugs. Other threads have reported even more problems. Hopefully I can go back to the previous update.

my ipod is not recognized by my itunes and tells me to uninstall itunes and reinstall it.  will this erase all of my music?

    Hi braddyloopy,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you need to uninstall and reinstall iTunes,  your music files should not be erased or affected in any way. It is always a good idea to back up your data before making any changes to your computer, though.
If you'd like to locate your music, this article explains how to find the files:
Where are my iTunes files located?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1391
When you reinstall iTunes, I'd recommend using the method in this article to make sure it's reinstalled completely:

  • Can I sync only a book from a newly downloaded itunes to my ipad without erasing all the other music etc since it's synced to another computer?

I'm traveling and in an area that does not have wifi.  However I do have LAN access.  So I put a new copy of itunes on my laptop and downloaded a book I want to put on my ipad.  How do I get the book from this new itunes to my ipad?  Can I sync just the book without erasing everything else since I'm synced to my main computer which I do not have any access to?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi again.  Chris is talking about an Adhoc network.  Make sure your PC wifi is enabled, then clck start and browse to control Panel.  Open your Network Connections folder (name may be different depending on windows version).
You need to create a new wireless network called an Adhoc network.  Note on most windows setups, it will not accept a WPA2 type password (bug I think).  Try one first and if it fails, try with the WEP password.  Take note of the prompt on type of input for the password and remember certain multi digit and numerals used consecutively will be rejected by the ipad.
When the wizard finishes. Close Network folder and click on your network icon in the system tray on your task bar. Click Connect to a network - then select your new Adhoc network and click connect.  It will then start to advertise itself.
Go to your ipad Settings\Wifi and tap on Other.  Enter your Network name in the top, then tap on tab belwo and set the password strength - WPA2 WEP etc. Go back a page and enter your password then Click Join.  If the password is accepted it will join.  If not go back to Network Settings and delete the previous Adhoc network (Dont try and reuse it)  Create another one with a different name and try a different password srength.
If it does not work with a WEP - it could be a required Service is not running on your PC
Go to your Start button, and in the search area that appears type in Services - then hit enter. he Search explorer window should open with Services shortcutin Administrative Tools folder showing.  Double Click it.
The following Services should be as follows
    Workstation - Automatic, running
    WLAN Autoconfig - Automatic, running
    Telephony - Manual, started
TCPIP Netbios Helper - Automatic, started
SSDP Discovery (required to advertise your network presence) Manual, started
Server - Automatic Delayed Start, started
Security Centre - Automatic Delayed Start, started
Secure Sockets Tunnelling Protocol Service - Manual, started
Remote Access Connection Manager - Manual, started
ditto Auto connection Manager - Manual - stopped (runs when required)
Network List Service - Automatic, started
    Network Connections - Manual, started
Function Discovery Resource Publication (required for some local sharing by some windows programs even when not connected to a work network - Automatic, started
Function Discovery Provider Host - Manual, Started
Extensible Authentication Protocol - Manual. started
    DNS Client - Automatic, started
Base Filtering Engine - Automatic, started
Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Automatic delayed start, started
    Application Experience - Automatic, started
Whilst at it, check Apple Application Management, Bonjour, and ipod services are all automatic and started when checking your services settings.
A full listing of default services can be found At Black Viper - use the NormalDefault settings for your system.
N.B.  You may need to be in Admin user account if you need to alter the property sheets of any of these services - particularly the Apple three.
Also note that some sytems do require the UPnP Device Host to be Automatic, started; to accept third party vendor equipment connections. I have a vaio and when I have set mine to manual, I have had some problems in the past.
If you have Antivirus and/or windows firewall or a third party firewall enabled, when the connection goes live you will be asked to define its type.  Choose Local or Trusted.
Lastly, when you disconnect from your Adhoc network, it can sometimes stop the associated service (found only in the registry) - you may need to log off and back on again to reconnect.
hope this helps, best regards, Ct
    P.S

  • IPod will lose all data in iTunes, I unplug and it is all still there.....

but now I can't add anything.
I try to add a video, it will stop halfway and then the computer says my iPod is corrupt and that it needs to be restored.....I unplug it and everything is fine but now I can't add anything onto the iPod and I'm tired of it having to be restored every 3 days or so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using iTunes, you can only sync an iPod to one computer at a time.  So, if that iPod is currently synced to one computer, you can only sync it to a second computer if iTunes erases the iPod and replaces its current content with the iTunes library of that second computer.  The exception to this rule are songs purchased from the iTunes Store. If the same user is logged into iTunes (on the second computer), it will ask if it should transfer those purchased songs from the iPod to the new computer.
Apple no doubt designed it this way to satisfy the music industry, so that iPods could not (easily) be used to "pirate" songs from one computer to another.  Imagine the music industry fearing an iPod owner could pass around his iPod to his friends, and have them "sync" all of his music to their computers, and his friends doing the same for their friends, and so on and so on...
If you have access to both computers, you can set the iPod to enable disk use, to act as an external hard drive. Instead of syncing with iTunes, manually copy the music files to the iPod.  Then, copy them to the new computer and add them to that computer's music library.  THEN, sync the iPod with all of your songs present on the second computer.  You can do the transfer with a USB flash drive or regular external drive, instead of using the iPod as a hard drive.
Also, there are third-party utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  But you'll have to do the Google search yourself.

  • My iphone is installed to my PC and my PC got rebooted from scratch so I have to reinstall Itunes. When I hook back my Iphone4 to Itunes for backup, will it erase everything or will it still have my data?

    Girl needs help here!
My Iphone4 is registered to my itunes in my PC. My PC then got virus and had to be rebooted from scratch and so lost a lot of data. I reinstalled my itunes and registered my account and it looks like the musics bought through Itunes is reinstalled. NOw Im afraid that if I hook back my Iphone4 to the reinstalled itunes, I will lose all the numbers and data in my iphone . Please help! cant imagine writing down to pen and paper all data i have in my phone

Every backup replaces the old one, so, unless you included the backup folder in your computer backup routine, you can't get back your calendar info.
The only time iTunes will not replace a backup is, when you use it to restore from, this one will stay in the backup list in iTunes.
More info on backups here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

  • Everytime I sync my phone with my itunes on my pc it erases all my playlists!

Am I doing something wrong? I plug my iphone into my PC and it says "sync in progress", next thing I know my playlists are gone...help!

Are those playlists actually on the computer that you are syncing with? If they are not, then yes it will sync the music across removing playlists. If they are there it's possible they are not selected to Sync across in which case you will need to do the following:
Select your iPhone and navigate to the Music tab. Make sure the 'Sync Music' option is selected and change the option to 'Selected Playlists, artists, albums & genres' option. Select the music (and Playlists) you wish to sync and let it go through.

  • Help lost my itunes on my pc it's all still on my ipods how do i get it all back onto my itunes

    Ipods are fine
My pc had an upgrade to windows 7
On getting it back all my itunes are gone
Have reinstalled itunes but dont want to wipe my ipod by connecting it
Cannot add cds again as its 53+ days worth!

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a step by step guide show you how to copy iPod songs to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • My itunes will not search computer for all songs stored.

I rencently reinstalled itunes to try to get it to reconize a external burner. It will now not automatically search the computer for all the songs that were orignally there.

    Yes.
You should have copied everything from the old computer to the new one.
Type "move itunes library" into the google search bar

  • ITunes library mysteriously dissapeared (not the actual files where they are stored) and once I transfered songs back to iTunes, some purchased songs had been corrupted (missing tags

Last week, I purchased around 9-10 songs. The previous day, I had played songs from my iTunes library... everything working normal. The day after purchasing those 9-10 songs... I noticed that my entire songs in my library (and playlist) where gone, essentially being re-set like new. I updated my iTunes version, re-started my PC and still... nothing was showing up except those 9-10 songs. I did the next logical thing which was to check the actual music folder that stores the songs. They where all there. It did not make any sense as I had not done or noticed anything unsual while using iTunes before. Now, I want to mention that I use a DJ software (mixvibe) with the ION Discovery DJ that pulls tracks from iTunes. For the past couple of months they both have worked great. Fast forwarding to my issue, I went ahead and copied all the music back to iTunes. I spent a good hour making sure that everything worked and re-created my playlists. One thing that struck me as odd was that while checking everything... some songs that I had purchased recently and even a couple of months ago that I've used on my mixvibe software... had the track info deleted. The only information was the track name, ex. (01 - Bird One). For some reason, they were dumped into a "Unknown Artists" file. There was a good 20-25 songs that had this issue. The one thing that I noticed was that when I would highlight the song within the Uknown Artist folder... All of the information including cover art was showing up at the bottom of the folder (if you are familiar with Windows 7 you know what I'm talking about). How can it be that all of the actual information was still there yet not showing up in iTunes? I had to manually go one by one of those 20-25 songs and add all of the track info (as much as I could). I was also able to recover some of the cover art but not all. It seems like the files got corrupted. Can I re-download these tracks again or how can I get them to how they were originally? HELP!

I find the best way to do this is to right click on the song in iTunes and convert then select convert ID3 tags to V1.1 this usually completes the tag and adds all the missing info, provided it is in iTunes corectly.
Were these songs you Dled or ripped form a cd directly?

We've recently had a problem with Contribute "losing"

The more technical information we can receive from Adobe on
    this the better.

  • SYNCH ERASED ALL MY LIBRARY AND MUSIC FOLDER CONTENTS

Please help me! I charged my friend's ipod because it was running out of battery power and when I opened my itunes my music was gone - the library is blank. So I looked in my music folder and I can't find the artists there either. Some artists are there but really old things and just a few anyway.
Also, when I go to music folder, there are some old itunes libraries but if I load them they don't open and my current itunes library is not there. Please help! I lost all my music. WHy did this happen? Of course, yes, my settings were automatically set to synching and I removed that now. But can I retrieve my old library anywhere?

I got this same problem. I put my ipod on my dock like normal. iTunes opened and asked to update. After update and restart iTunes opened again and i lost all my songs on ipod. ERASED. GONE.
Apple what is the deal,?!?! Can anyone help us figure out what happened and what to do?

  • What happens if i erase all content and settings?

I want to restore my iphone again on itunes, what happens of i erase all content and settings?

Erasing all content and settings will set your iPhone up just as if you took it out of the box software-wise.  It will go into setup mode - ask you for a WiFi network to join, ask for your Apple ID, set up the telephone, and then ask if you would like to set up as new or restore from a backup.
