Itunes opens automatically when surfing the web

I've noticed that recently itunes will open automatically when I surf the web.  Granted that I was surfing the same adult website, but I think there is something going on here like a hijack.
My apple is a late 2009 unibody macbook running snow leopard (I own lion, but it *****....I want the old finder back)
the site is xnxx.com that I have this issue with. remember it's adult so please don't be a puritan if you're going to address this issue.

I'm not sure why that would be.  It may be possible to trigger a download from the iTunes Store, which would result in a request from iTunes for your password before proceeding.  If that's possible, I would consider that to be a minor security issue, but since everything you could potentially download from there has been screened by Apple, there wouldn't be any malware involved.
Still, if you're concerned about drive-by downloads (and note that this is not behavior that has been seen from any Mac malware to-date), you should make sure to update your system and should make sure Java is disabled in your browser.  For more about keeping yourself safe, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • When I try to open Safari, I get NCSW21 and that server can't be found. This happens everytime. I am using AirPort and have a strong internet signal. I have no problem opening Firefox and surfing the web. Only with the Safari page. Can anybody help.

Can't open Safari. I get "Can't find server". I get NCSW21 in my address bar. I am using AirPort and have a strong internet signal. I have no problem opening Firefox and surfing the web. Need help. Thanks

    Hi Professor66,
I have a couple of suggestions for you regarding this issue. Here are two links to users who have posted similar questions to yours and have found their answers in the responses to their posts:

I would suggest that you first follow the troubleshooting that the OP did in the second link, which is to test in a new user account to see if the behavior is consistent. If it is, you may need to address the issue at a software level by re-installing Safari. More information on this process can be found in the following article:

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro and when surfing the web my computer will slow to a crawl and I will have a multi-colored spinning wheel visible until my latest request is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way to prevent this from occuring

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • My Macbook Pro 15 inch gets super hot when surfing the web... What is wrong?

My Macbook Pro that I got in April this year gets superhot when I'm surfing the web, especially when I'm using Safari. Also when I'm using photoshop, which I can partly understand since it's a heavy program, but it gets so hot that it burns my hand if I touch the underneath, and that can't be right, can it? This is despite having it on a flat surface.
Also, I do not know much about RAM and stuff, but when I'm just surfing the web on Safari it uses 1 GB of the RAM memory, and I've tried with Firefox and it uses 500 mb. I don't even think photoshop uses that much when I'm editing big files. What is normal, and can that have something with my computer getting as hot as it gets? It also gets really, really loud.

    Install istat menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When the MBP gets hot, post images of both istat pro temperature display and Activity Monitor for evaluation:

  • Is my new phone battery draining to fast when surfing the web???

I had/still have problems with my iPhone 3G and the 3G network. To make a long story short, i was given a new phone and the problems have not been fixed.
However when using safari or GPS or any surfing activity on my old phone i could get anywhere from 4 1/2 to 6 hours battery life when using a heavy amount of safari(i use the phone 75% of the time for that alone) weather and stocks, and a few texts and calls and other features. I could get through the day easily when unplugging it around 8 in the morning and didn't have to plug it back in until night.
The new phone seems to drain much faster with very similar use. The only two things i can think of is a tad more GPS and a lack of a strong signal because i was on vacation on marthas vineyard(not a whole lot of service on half the island, lot of signal searching). I notice the battery drains very funny also.
I can get like a half an hour usage before a blip comes off the battery indicator and sometimes i can get an hour. But those will follow up in the second hour draining to like 25% remaining. I can get between 2-2 1/2 hours before my 20% warning comes up. I was used to like 4 1/2 hours before the warning.
I looked online and saw that my new phone was actually similar to some time tests for surfing the web, my old iphone was alot of things, but it wasn't a battery drainer. So im wondering if my new phone is having a problem or my old phone was a "special" phone.
Just wanna know before i contact apple.

If you are surfing using 3G it will drain the battery faster than on EDGE. If you have WiFi on while you are searching using 3G/EDGE the battery will drain faster so turn it off. Signal hunting will also drain it a bit faster. Since you have a new phone it will take a few battery cycles before you see the true charge life of the battery.

  • ITunes opens automatically when I download music

When I download music my iTunes automatically opens and adds the new file to my library. Is there any way to stop this? I want to add the new files after I have reviewed and renamed them.

You have two things going on.
When you play a song in iTunes, it automatically adds it to the library. There is no option to do otherwise.
Apparently, you also have iTunes set as your default player for files of type MP3. Pick another player (I like Winamp) to use as your default. This will allow you to play/review new files in the other player, without iTunes knowing about it. Then, if and when you wish, you can add them to your iTunes library.

  • ITunes opens automatically when I disconnect my bluetooth speaker

I have a Bose Soundlink Mini paired with my Macbook Air and play sound from various applications (Spotify, VLC, Chrome etc.). If sound is playing and I shut the speaker off, the sound will continue playing from the computers internal speakers, which is expected and wanted, but it will also cause iTunes to automatically open for some inexplicable reason. I don't know why iTunes launches, but it is very annoying.
After browsing the internet for a solution I've tried to disable iTunes helper by removing it from the list of automatically launched programs upon login and then also opening the iTunes.app package and renaming Contents\MacOS\iTunesHelper.app to something else. This did not stop iTunes from automatically launching when I shut of the speaker however.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can prevent it? I don't mind preventing iTunes from automatically launching altogether for whatever reason. But I would like to avoid to uninstall iTunes completely if possible. Suggestions are welcome!

    same problem here!

  • ITunes skipping/stopping when surfing the 'net

Hi -- apologies if someone has already answered this ... I've gone through other posts about skipping and not found the answer.
My iTunes plays fine if it's the only programme running. However, when I surf the net at the same time as listen to music in my library, the sound skips and often just stops for entire songs, suddenly coming back on several songs later -- the iTunes player looks as though it's playing, but there is no sound. Particularly when I'm downloading a webpage, the longer the page takes to download the images, the more trouble I have with iTunes sound.
I've already set Quicktime for waveout(only) and ensured all my drivers and DirectX are up to date.
I've got sufficient RAM and no other programmes seem to have memory problems. I'm on a good broadband connection as well. There are no drivers that seem out of date and there is no conflict/problem according to the Device Manager. This happens so matter which internet browser I'm using, as well.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Fujitsu Deskpower C600   Windows XP   SoundMAX integrated digital audio (Fujitsu sound card)

    You can try this out.
    Go into the Device Manager.
Open up the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Right click on the Primary IDE Channel.
    Selected Properties.
clicked on the Advanced Settings tab.
Any device drive (CD or DVD drive) should be listed here or in the Secondary IDE Channel, and if any of them are showing in the Current Transfer mode as something mentioning PIO then something is wrong.
uninstall the driver for that particular IDE Channel, reboot the system to force it to reinstall the driver. You shouldn't need your windows install cds for this but have them on hand just in case. The drive should be re-recognized as Ultra DMA 5 or some type of DMA drive.
I can't really explain why a Current Transfer Mode of PIO on a CD or DVD drive that I wasn't using would cause such problems but it would appear that my problem had something to do with the sound studdering, slowing, pausing.

  • ITunes opens automatically when iPhone3G is docked, but I don't want it to.

I seem to be having the opposite problem that others have been posting about, which is that iTunes doesn't open when they connect their iPhones/iPods.
In my case, it does, but I don't want it to. I've been keeping the iphone in the dock next to my computer to ensure that it has a full charge before I hit the road each day, but if I take it out of the dock to take a phone call or do something else with it, then the next time I insert the iPhone back into the dock, iTunes fires up, even though I've made no changes that require a resyncing.
I've gone through the prefs in iTunes, but the only thing I can find is a setting under Sync that says "Don't automatically sync...", but that's only half the problem.
I seem to recall a setting somewhere at some time in the past that said "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected". What happened to that setting?
Is there some way that I can redock the iPhone without having iTunes boot up?
    Thanks!

Hehe, I was able to recreate your scenario exactly, and I got mine to work, hopefully it will for you too:
To recreate your scenario (greyed out "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected", it NOT checked, yet iTunes still opens when iPhone is connected) I did this:
I don't know if this part matters, but I started out with "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" checked in the device summary tab (too lazy to see if it matters. ;o)) then I went into preferences -> syncing and CHECKED "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods". After this, I went back to the Summary tab and sure enough, got the greyed out message for "automatically sync" and it now it is UNCHECKED. Closed iTunes, plugged in my iPhone and lo and behold iTunes still opened!! This is your scenario exactly right?
So it appears that the combination of settings issue, because here is what I did to fix it: Preferences -> syncing and UNCHECKED "Disable auto sync", then went to the summary tab and UNCHECKED "Automatically sync" (because it ungreyed out and became checked again after changing the other setting), closed iTunes, connected my iPhone and iTunes stayed closed.
    Hope this works for you.

I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing, and when I open itunes it shows that there are zero "home movies" in there, meaning that it never grabbed the videos from my phone either. What to do? Thanks!

    tl:dr?
    Really?
There was a short version expressly for people who weren't bothered to read a myriad of text.
Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.
I would thank you for the help but you were utterly useless. Oh well, carry on.

Have you tried running Repair Permissions?

Why does iTunes no longer open automatically when iPad is connected? and iPhone as well?  Setting to "auto open" is selected, but iTunes will not open automatically. Problem seems to have begun with upgrade to Lion.

Good luck getting an answer...I posted the same question a day ago.   I can only assume it's a glitch in iTunes 10.5.
