Itunes opens itself at will

itunes opens itself at will

Don't know the specifics of your issue, but I was having the same problem.  Just a zombie iTunes that would launch by itself every 15 min or so.  After research, found the issue to be the iTunesHelper ap, which launches at boot and is designed to launch iTunes whenever an iPhone or iPad is detected.  Must be a bug, but my Macbook swore it was seeing an iPhone or iPad.  I've also heard of similar issues with 3rd party keyboards, etc.  I believe the culprit was an iPhone emmulator for web design.
Through Activity Monitor, I quit iTunesHelper and have had no problem since.

  • ITunes opens itself!!

I'm surfing with Safari or any other programm (iTunes is completely shut down), and every few minutes iTunes opens itself. I didn't press any link to open iTunes or anything else like import music. It's getting on my nerve. Please help.
    Thanks
P.S.: Excuse my bad english, I'm German.;-)

Do you have an iTunes related Widget running?
It could be the reason of iTunes opening by itself.

  • Itunes opening itself

Itunes keeps opening itself on my macbookpro. I thought it might be the music sharing wirelessly. I changed my setting to no sharing, ended the program and turned off airport. A minute or so later the program was open again on my desktop.
Has anyone ever seen this or know how t stop it.
It randomly drains my battery life.
    Thanks!

    alexandrakgallery,
    Welcome to Discussions.
The most obvious reason is an iTunes related Widget.
If you have one or more, disable it/them and see if it helps.
If it does, enabling them again, usually will not cause the problem again.

  • Itunes Opening itself every 2 minuites - APPLE NOT LISTENING

Itunes is opening itself every two minutes and playing music. I do not have any 'devices'  plugged in. It is not enabled for startup. I remember having this problem a year or so ago with another update on an older operating system but that fix does not work. Now regrettably running Lion ( hate the new mission control) so as not to lose my mobileme. There are obviously many people with this itunes problem,  yet there are no replies from Apple in the discussion forums and once again no help from them either. I have been a mac user since my Mac classic nearly 20 years ago and am now so tired of having to continually sort out, find patches, try to get things to sync with apple that I cant believe I'm saying this I'm thinking of actually buying a P.C. I waste so much of my day trying to fix things going wrong on my mac that actually having one is costing me my work time. SORT IT OUT APPLE.

  • ITunes opening itself without being asked to!

In recent days iTunes has started opening itself and begun playing the playlist- I have not changed any settings etc. I have also checked the preference panel, and cannot see anything there that has changed. This is becoming a real pest!!!
    Any ideas???

This is usually related to third-party apps or widgets that are attempting to talk to iTunes. If you have any such items, disable them and see if it stops.
Just curious...does iTunes only do this when you first startup? (If so, it could be listed in your Startup Items in System Prefs.) If it keeps launching repeatedly after you've quit it, go with my first suggestion.

  • Not a significant problem, but has anyone noticed iTunes opening itself, or suddenly playing when dormant?

    The title asks the questions.

Found the solution to the problem. Probably not the best fix, but it works.
I have upgraded to Snow Leopard, but I don't think it changes anything...
There is ONLY 1 WAY to configure the AX to make it work as we expect.
You must check the option "Create a new WiFi network", even if what seems natural is to check "Connect to an existing network".
Then, name your network, like for instance "MatFromParisse Network", select the security level you want and password.
If required, you select "Connection via Ethernet", EVEN IF NO ETHERNET PLUG connected.
    IPv4 configuration: "Via DHCP".
This all look like you are going straight in the wall and doesn't seem natural...
Then on the computer you are using iTunes on, select the network you just created (like "MatFromParisse Network"), instead of your usual network.
AirTunes will play, but it seems you no more access the internet. When you want to surf the internet again, switch back to your normal WiFi network. It seems that it's not possible to listen to music and surf at the same time.
    Not professional, but it works.
I have spent 50 hours in total to make this work, the equivalent of 5 working days. I sell my working days 2,000€/day, so I value my lost time to 10,000€ to make this stupid thing work. I wish not to thank Apple for the complete lack of support (hotline doesn't even know what means error -6710).

  • HT1296 I have authorized my computer and music shows up on it when I have iTunes open, but still will not download songs to my ipod.  Any suggestions?

I have authorized my ipod to sync with my computer, but it still will not sync the songs from the past that are on itunes.  Any ideas how to correct this and download the songs?  thanks, Corinne M

I have authorized my computer to work with my ipod.  I have ran a sync and it did put music I copied to my computer to the ipod.  The thing it will not do is download music I bought from iTunes in the past. It just acts like they are not there.

  • HT1386 Sync'g up iPhone 5S for the first with iTunes library.  I plug in my phone, iTunes open but devise will not appear in iTunes.  Help?

  • ITunes keeps opening itself

I recently updated my software and I also recently started using a Shuffle with my iMac - I'm not sure which is causing the problem.
I have iTunes 6.0.2, and it keeps opening itself automatically. Not when I start up my computer, but if I have iTunes open and then quit the application, it will just open itself right back up approximately 1-2 minutes later. It doesn't do anything - doesn't access the Music Store or start playing music - it just opens itself. So annoying!
Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this? Is it possible I have it set to automatically open for some reason?
    Thanks!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Coupla dumb questions:
Are you actually "quitting" iTunes by going to the iTunes Menu > Quit iTunes or by the keyboard (Command+Q)?
Or are you just clicking on the red button at the top of the program window, which actually does not quit the program. (The program is still open if you see a small rectangle symbol under the icon in the dock.)
Also check your System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and make sure you don't have iTunes set to open when you insert a blank disc, dvd or picture CD.

  • ITunes 7 Keeps Opening itself without my launching it!

OK, the wierdest thing keeps happening now, I close iTunes, it closes, then, a few minutes later it re-launches it self!
I'm rather paranoid about my music and my data so once a week I do a full backup to an extrnal hard drive of my documents, my music and my email. When I run the backup I make sure iTunes is closed as well as my mail client.
Today I closed iTunes as usual, started my backup and next minute iTunes was back! I closed it again, a few minutes later, back again. And so it has been going for about 15 minutes now. Does iTunes somehow sense that some program is accessing it's library and spring to life to protect itself or will I now never be able to turn off iTunes?
Anyone else having this most perplexing problem?
    Cheers,
    Bart.

Thought I would add into this. My iTunes just started opening by itself. It was open when I came in this morning, then after closing I notiv=ced every time I came back it was open again.
    very strange

  • 11.3.1.2 Itunes keeps opening itself, not connected to any devices!!!

I installed Itunes 11.3.1.2 as a clean installation on my laptop last week. Running Windows 7.
I have connected the Ipad Air ONCE only. Yet for the past 3 days itunes has randomly opened itself up, it's doing it when no one is home, when we're asleep etc.
Nothing is running that should open it, no widgets, no media players NOTHING absolutely nothing!!!!
I have searched the community and found a heap of ideas on what might be triggering it and tried everything on there that i can and nothing helps.........
Please any ideas will be fantastic its driving me nutty!!!!!!!!!

screenshots below of my itunes preferences:

This basically reset my driver and now everything works fine with getting it to show up in itunes, however is still will not allow me to use my personal hotspot. Ive noticed when i turn on personal hotspot on my phone i see this:
so obviously we are missing a driver or something that enables the personal hotspot to function correctly. I just can't seem to figure out where that is located.
    UPDATE***
i went to the folder that was by the previous driver i updated
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\NetDrivers
    i selected netaapl64.inf
and now Personal Hotspot works and it shows up in device manager like this:
hopefully this helps whoever else is having this issue

  • ITunes keeps opening itself up

Hi, can somebody please tell me how to disable iTunes from continuously opening itself up for no paticular reason? I'm not sure why it started doing that but now every 2 minutes or so iTunes will just start itself up and it's getting incredibly annoying.
    help please!!

Go to System Preferences/Hardware CDs and DVDs and check if iTunes is set to open whenever you insert a disk of any kind (although music CDs is a natural choice, obviously)
Also, check your Login Items in System Preferences/Accounts for any iTunes related stuff
A likely cause can be found by making note of what you are doing when iTunes launches ... if you are working with media files of any kind -but potentially any kind of file - check to see what application is being opened by double-clicking that file (use Get Info).

  • How to prevent iTunes 11.2.2(3) from opening itself EVER or just delete it

I've spent a fair amount of time researching this on a couple occassions and have tried a number of steps people outlined in the past to prevent iTunes from launching itself but nothing so far has worked for me on the latest version of iTunes (11.2.2(3) as of this post).  I was able to rename iTunes to something else, so OS X just created a new copy of iTunes and starts launching that! Grrr...
iTunes launches at all sorts of annoying times, such as when a stereo bluetooth headset is connected, or it used to be that pressing any of the playback function keys on the Macbook Air keyboard would cause iTunes to launch...I've fixed this for the most part by installing "Magic Keys" but I also get an annoying message everytime I reboot asking whether I'm ok with opening MagicKeys (I have gate keeper turned off).  There's lots of other cases where iTunes will launch and I haven't a clue why.  I have no need for iTunes to launch itself at anytime, I can do that myself on the very rare ocassions that I need to on this computer.  Finding iTunes is running all the time for no apparent reason isn't exactly great for battery life.
Does anyone know of a method that is confirmed to work on the latest version of Mac OS X Mavericks & iTunes
to prevent iTunes from opening itself EVER?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks for reading my rant.

I have a similar problem with my Mac Mini.  It started after I updated to the latest iTunes May 29th.   I am running Mavericks OS updated to current versions.   iTunes keeps opening up to the last ITunes window used and I keeping closing it.  I have searched the net and tried many ideas.  There is a historyof this probelm going wayback to 2010.  CNET documents it andother sites have postings since then where it has occurrred with other Mac OSes!
I can say baltwo your idea is a non-starter. Just close it again?  Altering code to prevent iTunes opening up on its own is another.   Programs that have to re-programmed to work as designed is the programmers responsibility not the end user.  The only way I can get it not to start up on its own is to unplug my Apple USB keyboard!   This is bogus!  But I will press on!  Replace the Keyboard. Re-install the software is the last move... after I go to the genius bar.   It would be nice if Apple would step up!

  • ITunes opens by itself repeatedly

iTunes has started opening up by itself. Sometimes it starts playing the first thing on the list. Most times it just opens up without playing, but the window doesn't come to the forefront, like when you intentionally open a program. Most of the time I am not touching the mouse, it's no where near clicking on the itunes icon. There are no devices being plugged in. Sometimes I am not at the computer and I find it open and playing again. Anyone heard of this?

I have the same issue. It started recently with iTUnes 10. iTunes launches itself, plays by itself, randomly stops playing, etc. I have no widgets, I have no Apple Scripts, I have, basically a very generic Snow Leopard system. The only way I could fix the issue was to nuke iTunes. I hunted down all the .plist files, etc, deleted the application, library files, etc. While I was at it I downgraded to iTunes 9, since the UI in iTunes 10 is pretty bad as well. I'm in the market for a new iPhone (I have the original one) and a new iMac, but since I have to have iTunes 10 to work with iOS 4 I will not be purchasing anything until I see that this cause of this issue has been positively identified and resolved. I use my Macs for work, and being on a conference call and having iTunes decide to start playing is a non-starter. Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to leave the entire ecosystem due to the recent bloat and the direction that Apple seems to be going - ignoring professionals more and more. If I could run Photoshop on Lunix I'd bail immediately.

  • ITunes opens but without any text showing.  Drop down menus have text but not the app itself. I have a Mac Powerbook Pro running Windows XP under Boot Camp.

Running under Windows XP,  a few upgrades ago iTunes started opening without any text showing in the application.  Clicking on PLAY will play music but no text shows to indicate what's playing and no text to show music library. Drop down windows show text but not the app itself.
Subsequent upgrades and reinstalls have not corrected the problem, When I run under iOS (Snow Leopard), iTunes opens with text and runs correctly.
    Help!

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.
