ITunes opens to black screen

I've tried to contact apple about this issue, but after telling me, "We'll get back to you", they just close the case. I contacted them January 28, the case shows as closed January 27 (no, not a typo). I contacted the support rep by email asking the status on Feb 15, and received NO reply. I called today (2/21) and was told that they have no idea why the case was closed--but, they still didn't know how to fix it.
Below are screenshots of what's happening... The first one is what greets me on EVERY SINGLE launch of iTunes.

To fix it, I need to do three steps:

I've tried to re-create the itunes database by moving my existing library, still didn't fix the issue.
There has been some talk about this issue before (I could find as early as 2007), but, so far, I can't find a definitive answer on how to fix it. Can anyone help me solve this issue?
David

Multiple monitors, Windows 7, some display things not showing up how they ought to look ... I've seen something on this recently.
Found it ... actually, found them.
I'm wondering if we've got an iTunes bug on top of a Windows 7 bug here.
There's a couple of currently-recognised issues with multiple monitors on Windows 7:
[The taskbar appears on the wrong monitor after you change the primary monitor in Windows 7|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002029]
[Taskbar and Desktop Icons Do Not Display on Primary Monitor|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295650/en-us]
I'm wondering if the iTunes display preferences are tripping up when trying to deal with this, and doing something silly like attempting (but failing) to display the contents of the iTunes GUI on the wrong monitor. So we get a black area in the middle of the iTunes GUI.
There's some quite strong connections between the iTunes preferences and the library files. (Some information about tracks is stored in the library database files, some in the preferences files, some in the tags on the content files, and they all dance around each other quite a bit.) So that might explain why the display comes back when you play tracks. The interplay between track, library and preference data jolts the display preferences into behaving sensibly.
If iTunes is opened in a different user account, with a blank library, there's no information in the content files (because there is no content). So the conditions for the effect to occur might not be met, because we don't have the same sort of interplay between library, content and preferences going on. So that might be the difference between the normal account and the test account.
I guess, to try to work out if any of that could be possibly the case, we could test this by disconnecting one of the monitors ... does the iTunes display behave normally when there's only one monitor attached to the system?

When I open iTunes it will automatically go to full screen mode. I can't work out how to turn this off. Only iTunes opens to full screen mode.

Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar).  Choose "General".  Click "Always close windows when quitting an application".
    That should fix it.

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How can i Use my apple 4 phone again - I was instructed to restore my phone with itunes and now it's stuck with the itunes logo and black screen Itunes has said unable to restore and now left unable to use my phone and not sure if I have any data on it?

I was instructed by I Tunes to restore my Iphone 4 - ITunes has since said it is unable to restore.  I  am now left with a black screen with Itunes logo on it and a picture of the charger attachment at the base of the screen and I am unable to do anything now with the device.  I think I may have lost all of my information on the device too ~ can anyone help please?

You have lost all your data, but hopefully you were backing it up with iCloud or iTunes. You can try this:
Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • Adobe AIR apps open to black screen in iOS 8

Adobe AIR for iOS apps I published using Flash Professional CS6 no longer run properly on iOS 8. They worked fine in iOS 7.
After opening, they just hang at a black screen (likely the launch screen - I didn't make an image for it).
Is this a known issue? Are there any solutions?

I've found an answer- the apps were published using the AIR 3.4 SDK, which I guess iOS 8 doesn't support.
Republished one with the newest AIR 15 SDK and it works properly.
Guess I'll have to republish everything.

  • HT4623 I phone 5 failed to open up, black screen with apple logo only. Is this a software problem or change the battery?

My Iphone 5 originally came from Japan. Being resident of the Phil., I let a Technician open it by using x-sim. But now, the maximim charging is up to 3 minutes only. Later on it goes down to 1 minute until it stopped opening up. Only black screen with an apple logo appearing sometimes when plugged to power outlet. Tried to press the power on, but it still wont open.
What might be the caise of all this. Is this a software or hardware problem? Or is it the battery that the technician suggested?

When you answer your own question, you don't really need to post it in a support community.  Go to the technician and seek your solution there.  Apple can do nothing for you after unauthorized service.

    Look for these two files.

  • Firefox is opening to a black screen and I can not access any menu options to reset it. Can I reset it from the application on my desktop?

I am using Windows 7 and have never had a problem with Firefox. When I tried to open yesterday, after using all day, opened to black screen (grey panel across top of screen). I shut computer down and restarted it and is still not working. If I uninstall will I loose bookmarks and other saved information?

hello ginapal, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd2000/3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • Slideshow - just shows a black screen

I set up a photo album on iWeb, but when I am visiting the site, clicking the the Play Slideshow command opens a black screen that does nothing. I did enable the slideshow option in the Inspector.
    I'm using Safari.
    Any suggestions???
    Carl

All of your slideshows work but they take a looong time to load and I've got a very fast connection. What type of connection do you have? I'm using Safari 4b. You may just have to wait longer for all of the files to load before they display in the slideshow. For example your 1945-70 has 83 photos. Change the slides per page to 30 and each page will load much faster. The last group has 98 per page on the first page. Reduce that to around 30 and have more pages.
    You have a several options:
1 - fewer photos per page.
2 - use an application like Web Site Maestro to optimize your site files and then upload them to your iDisk.
3 - move your site to a commercial hosting service like Host Excellence, GoDaddy, etc. which will vastly increase load times.
4 - move to a commercial server AND use Web Site Maestro or similar which will help make the site more accessible to those using the outdated Internet Explorer.
MobileMe is just not setup for commercial use and, as a result, is much slower than other servers.
