ITunes "organized" my wav files.

I have approximately 2000 wav files on an external hard drive. All the songs were imported using iTunes. Because of hardware issues, the internal HD was reformatted and the OS reinstalled. When I "add(ed them) to library" without "keep iTunes Music folder organized" checked, the songs appeared in the iTunes browser without the artist or album listed. So I checked the "keep iTunes Music folder organized." Well of course iTunes placed all the wav files in a single folder. It appears all album information and artist information was lost. Does anyone have any idea about how I might reorganize the files? Thank You.
This is an obvious flaw in iTunes. Most likely easily correctable. I'm not sure why apple has not taken the time to fix this bug.

Sorry - but seems to be a hard work to come.
What about the nameing of the wav files? Did you originally select "Create file names with track number"?
The problem in you case: while all track information are stored within mp3 + aac files as tags, those information will be store externally and linked to wav + aiff files: reformatting your hd erased that information.

  • How do you make itunes not play wav files?

I know how to make it play wav files but how do I remove it from the default player list? I want them to all play in Quicktime. I have done the right click, holt alt and press Always Open With... and also done the right click and specify it to open in Quicktime. I have done this on 3 different Macs with 2 different OSX versions. It will open in Quicktime that one time but then the next time I open a wav file it goes back to Quicktime.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

It will open in Quicktime that one time but then the next time I open a wav file it goes back to Quicktime.
Do you mean, "goes back to iTunes"?  "A wav file," or the same wav file you just changed?
Did you select the additional option in Get Info's Open With window to, "Change all of this kind to open with Quicktime"?

  • ITunes update and WAV files

I recently updated my iTunes and since then my WAV files playback very distorted. Not being a mac boffin I tried to retrieve my old iTunes through my timemachine. This told me that I didn't have enough privileges with iTunes to carry out the function.....now I can't access my iTunes at all. How can I sort this all out?

I have a number of WAV files on my PC (from an Olympus digital recorder). Before iTunes version 8, the played just fine. Starting with version 8, they all play extremely noisy and choppy. I've tried playing selected files on Quicktime and they all play just fine. Clearly some sort of bug was introduced in version 8. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, that problem with WAVs from voice recorders has been reported here several times. Haven't seen anything about a fix. Converting the files to MP3 will probably help.

  • Why, when I bounce to iTunes, do my wave files show up with no sound?

When I bounce wave files to iTunes the file has a time and the title shows up, but no sound when you double click on it. The time bar moves like its playing but no sound!!

If you bounce as AAC or MP3, you will lose some quality. Better to bounce in AIF or WAV if you intend to burn to CD. Now, why you can't play it in iTunes or from finder, that is weird. Like someone suggested, try AIF format. That is all I use and I can play anywhere. When you go to "Get Info" in iTunes (for the song), does it have a time? You can also try opening the file (from your Bounced folder) into Audacity? It's a free app and very nice. You will be able to see the sound wave. This will verify that you actually have sound in the file.
Let us know what you find.

  • Formating Itunes Music Into wav File

Hello, I am trying to utilize the music from my iTunes library in other programs, like Windows Movie Maker, but it does not support that type of file. It does support like wav files, but I don't know how to re-format my songs?
Any ideas would be so helpful!!
    Thank you,

You need to burn a CD and then use the CD to import songs into your movie making application. I have to do that with Pinnacle 10, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, and Liquid Edition. Makes for expensive stuff unless you are burning your music to CD anyway. Otherwise I purchase CD's from Walmart or other places that I can import into the Windows Media Player (make it your default) and then let iTunes import them if you want to update your iPod. It's a pain - not sure why they won't fix that problem because they are loosing my iPod Store business. Besides - sometimes Walmart is cheaper anyway. Look at it this way - at least you didn't copy over 300 CD's into iTunes only to find out that you can't use that format for the movie making apps. Now I have to import them all again using Windows Media Player... pain.

  • How Do I Convert iTunes Songs to .wav files

Is there any way to convert iTunes downloaded music to .wav format so they can be used in Adobe Photoshop?

If your purchases are the new DRM free files from EMI, simply change your import preferences to mp3, then right click on the song you wish to convert, then click on "convert to".
If the purchase is not one of the new files, you can burn your purchase to an audio CD, that audio CD can be used like any CD you might purchase at your local store.

  • How to import large library of .wav files into itunes with tags?

I have an external NAS drive where I imported approximately 400 CDs in .wav format utilizing itunes many years ago. My itunes library was recently corrupted requiring a reinstall of itunes. The .wav files are preserved and are filed by Artist folders containing Album subfolders which contain the tracks listed by number and name. The problem is when I reimport the files into itunes the artist and album name is lost leaving only the track name, which makes it impossible to organize a library of music.
I would like to batch process and import the .wav files on my NAS drive into itunes in either a high-quality mp3 or AAC format with the songs tagged correctly to allow for an organized and searchable library. I would rather not have to reburn all of the CDs since that required substantial time and effort.
I welcome any solution to this problem.

itunes can't do what you want. It will do exactly what you said, lose everything, because wav files don't have ID3 tags. And, I suspect it dumps it all into an "Unknown Album" subfolder under "Unknown Artist".
You can try the tagFromFileName script on this page, brought to you by an apple discussion forum regular turingtest2. I have not used it myself, but have seen posts from several people happy with the results!

  • HT3819 How do I convert WAV files in iTunes Library to MP3?

I have a SwiMP3 device that plays music through headphones while I swim.  It only accepts MP3 files and many of the files in my iTunes library are WAV files.  How do I convert these to MP3?  Thanks, David T

In your iTunes, set Edit/Preferences/Import Settings to MP3. Then highlight the song you want to convert and click on Advanced/Create MP3 version. A second version of the song will now appear in your Library.

  • Disappearing .wav files

Upgraded(?) from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7. All my imported .wav files went missing, i.e. "!" + "Song could not be used because the orginal file could not be found." Redownloaded the .wav file, and all is good UNTIL you turn off the computer. On rebooting - same thing - iTunes 7 and almost all the Library works fine, but the imported .wav files are AWOL. Suggestions?
Thanks (especially if you have a fix)
PS: Absent a fix, what's the easy way to reinstall iTunes 6?
    PC   Windows XP

Make sure that under the advanced tab in Preferences, under General, check the box that says keep iTunes folder organized.
Also, iTunes usually converts .wav files because iPods cannot play them. If there is an exclamation mark, double click the file and search for it on your harddrive to restore it.

  • I back my music and photos from my windows laptop before it broke on a external hard drive . I just got a new mac book can I use the hard drive to put my wave files and JPEG files on to my mac book

My old lap top broke I save all my music what is wave and my pitches is jpeg on external hard drive
the old laptop was a window base laptop
so I got a new mac coming and I been told my hard drive won't won't on the mac and I lose all my photos and music
    any help
    thanks

If your external drive has the right ports, you should be able to plug it up to your Mac and copy over your photos and wav files. You'll probably (I don't know this for sure as it's been a long, long time since I've dealt with wav files) need to convert the wav files to MP3 or some other format (but I would try opening them directly from iTunes, first - wait a second... yes, iTunes will open wav files).
There are only a fixed number of ways that Windows drive can be formatted and a Mac can read (though not necessarily write) them all. So you should have no trouble with that.

  • Importing .wav files

How do you import .wav and .wpl files into iTunes? The files are on my iMac, but the Import application in iTunes fails when .wav files are chosen for import.

depends on what type your .wav files they are.
is it audio .wav or movie file .wav ? what says your information ?
and how you got it your .wav file...
it should be able to play on your itune if its .wav file...
or just use your quicktime for playing...

  • Artwork for WAV files?

Does anyone know how to import album artwork into iTunes for a WAV file.  Nothing happens after bringing in the artwork.  Can it be done?

    @Dj_AmTraX: good tip!
I tried to first load my music as apple lossless and added the artwork (via get info, artwork, add) then loaded all the music a second time additionally in the WAV file format. The album artwork then appeared in iTunes for all the WAV files too. So one could say yes, it can be done but apparently on iTunes only with a bit of extra work and the restriction of needing to have the music stored in two different formats.
It is a pity that Apple's iTunes doesn't support linking WAV files to artwork jpgs as standard.
The more mp3-like the product the less likely they seem inclined to offer good functionality for the (hi-fi, bulkier) WAV format. Now storage is so less expensive they should maybe re-think? I find high-resolution audio files so much better on a good hi-fi system ;-)
@any_WAV_enthusiast: Who has found the method above to work for them?
Maybe someone now knows a quicker or easier method to get artwork shown for WAV files in iTunes / on i-devices?

  • Does ipad support wav files?

II'm trying to download a song sent to me. It us on a wav file.

  • Reversing iTunes organized file structure

    Help!
I just imported my entire music library and had checked "keep iTunes music folders organized" under preferences. In my "my music" folder I had my songs named artist - title (Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire)and now iTunes renamed all the songs by track number and created about 200 different folders. That same song is now under a Johnny Cash folder named "07 Ring of Fire". Is there any possible way to reverse this? Do I need to manually rename all my songs back to their orignal name? Please help!

    Hi
Facing a similar problem since i-tunes 5.xx (also with 6.01): The file structure is still the same as before and ok but the library shows all songs, that have been ripped as "wav" files not correct. The only information given is now under "title" eg 01 American Idiot. No Album, no Band is shown anymore. All files ripped as mp3-files are shown properly. Deleting the entire library and re-importing brings no cure. Please help.

  • Placing 24/192 WAV files on iTunes for playback through Wadia 170 iTranspor

I record live music on a Sound Devices 722 digital audio recorder at 24/192 as WAV files. I can import the 24/192 WAV file into iTunes on a Mac and the bit rate is displayed as 9216 kps. This makes sense since 24x192=9216. When I click on the song in iTunes it plays back at the correct tempo.
I bought a Wadia 170 iTransport since it says it will output bit perfect digital files. I'd love to hear my recordings this way over my sound system. I understand that this would chew up drive space real fast on an iPod. However . . .
I can't get my iPod to accept the 9216 kps song files. I went to set iTunes / Preferences / Advanced / Importing to WAV but the options for sample rate only go up to 48.0 kps and the bit rate up to 16-bit.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to overcome this will be appreciated.

    Hi,
I'm from germany so no 'best buy' but I think I will lock around sleeve/bag for a different product with same measures. Any tip?
The clear plastic case is not what I want. I would like to use the player without such protections. I just want a sleeve to protect the player while its in my jacket/pants.
Btw, i have bought this version: Creative Zen (maybe european version?). I also doesn't seem to have your mentioned sleeve. I also couldn't find it on the website.
    Anyway, thank you,
    Chris
