ITunes pauses at track #'s imbedded in continuous music, like operas. Fix?

Playing back iTunes tracks whose numbers are imbedded in continuous music, such as in an opera, iTunes adds a gap of silence that can only be partially corrected by turning cross-fade on, and setting the time to zero. Currently, my half-terabyte drive holding over 80,000 tracks is indexing itself, and at the samne time, intertrack perrformance is much worse. Why does iTunes have this fatal flaw?

Have any you tried emailing iTunes store support? I sent them this particular post to them. I think the screenshots of the iTunes store, and then the screenshot of the cell phone itself is good idea.
Did anyone try calling which is the tech support?

mrmet2087, that is surprising how songs that you downloaded three years ago, mysteriously appear wrong on your cell phone. I don't think our cell phones are acting up. It has to be the iOS 8.2 or the iTunes store itself. I deleted iTunes from my home computer, then re downloaded again.

So now I have the most up to date version of iTunes (12.1.1) on my home computer. But that didn't seem to fix the issue. Did anyone try to upgrade their version of iTunes to see if it fixed the issue?

How do I get iTunes to provide track names when I burn a CD of home recorded music?

Audio CDs do not contain track information. For commercial CDs this information is supplied by the Gracenote service (see below).  Each computer gets this information for a particular CD from this service, it isn't on the CD.  You would have to register your CD with Gracenote.  In my opinion this is a bit much for a personal CD that only a few computers in the world will ever see, but I guess unless they block it then you can do it.

  • I have 500gb of music and itunes separates album tracks into individual albums any ideas how to fix?

    please help!!

That's normally not a helpful information.
But, as your problem is well known ...
The way iTunes groups files (songs) into a Album depends on the entry in "Album" if "Sort by Album Name" is checked.
All songs from an Album should have the same entry in the "Album" and "Album Artist" field.
To regroup the albums choose all songs from the album at once (cmd+click) right click -> get Info -> and put the appropriate info in the two fields.
If you sort your Albums by other information e.g. composer, the songs get grouped by this feature.

  • Latest iTunes update restarts track when pressing pause in the last seconds of play

When I updated to the last version of iTunes (might have been earlier, haven't used it like that in some time) the program started doing a very annoying thing: if you pause a track in the last seconds (I think it's 3) it rewinds it to the very start. I'm constantly reviewing and rating songs I get sent so I'm used to pausing the songs in the last seconds. But now it won't resume where I left it but restart completely. Anybody else noticed that? Is it just me or all the latest iTunes updates have only brought annoying things like this on board? Any idea how to overcome that?

Have experienced the same problem with iTunes 11.1.3 on both Mac and Windows. Very annoying.

  • Why is the ipod insisting on pausing between tracks?

My ipod 30g is pausing between tracks and there is no apparent way of altering that. This is a serious unresolved problem with the ipod which I feel needs to be discussed until Apple either recalls it or resolves the issue.
I did a search for this topic and I found that the few discussions that existed did not get the airing they deserved before they were archived.
If I didn't know Apple better I would think this is a cover-up. I called tech support and after I assured them that the itunes cd preference was set to no pause they had no answer but to re-install the software which would involve erasing all my content. And you know I got the "I haven't heard of this problem yet.." cliche tech response to de-emphasize a gaping disfunction.
Yes I'm keeping my ipod but they should not have released it for market with this audio anomaly. And yes I will merge all my tracks in itunes because that pause can ruin and entire CD if there is continuous sound.
Does anyone know if Apple is at least considering rectifying this flaw?

The iPod has never supported gapless playback.
    You can suggest Apple add this feature here;
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
It's no big conspiracy - we're not alowed to speculate here about what features Apple may or may not add in the future, so there really isn't much to talk about.

  • Pauses between tracks? (Brutal 1 or 2 second interruption between tracks)

I would like to know if there is a way to program the iPod so that when I’m listening to an album that is supposed to be heard in continuous playback (no pauses between tracks, like in operas, some new age albums and classical music) I can hear it without the brutal one or two second interruption the internal software inserts between tracks.
Here’s what I have tried. I went to iTunes preferences, in PLAYBACK, and set the CROSSFADE PLAYBACK indicator to ZERO (0) seconds. Then, I updated the iPod. There remains a very noticeable skip between tracks that isn’t there on the original CDs. It is a little better, but still too noticeable.
What I mean is this. When I listen to my CD on my computer or sound system, there is absolutely no gap or skip between tracks…the music just flows on (example : Alexander by Vangelis, or a Wagner opera). The music is continuous. No skip between tracks.
Should I conclude there is no way to import this type of recording on the iPod (and iTunes) without adding a skip (even if only a short one) between tracks?
I have a 40 Gigabytes iPod, version 3.1 of the iPod software.
    Thanks

This question is one that crops up a lot on these forums and has been a major source of complaint for as long as the iPod has been in existence.
Currently the only way to eliminate the gap between songs is to import the cd as one track. You do this by using the “join cd tracks” option in the advanced menu of iTunes.
Make sure the tracks are in their correct order, and highlight those you wish to join.
No gaps, but the downside is that you will of course lose the ability to navigate between tracks, and the song info is also lost. The iPod will display the cd title in the song field in the “now playing” screen . You’ll also have one large file instead of a number of smaller ones.
If you would like to see gapless playback implemented to the iPod, add your voice to the many here.
    iPod Feedback.
The crossfade feature is an iTunes feature only just fyi.

  • Is it still possible to remove pauses between tracks when ripping a CD?

In earlier versions of iTunes, it was possible to remove pauses between tracks. Many classical CDs have long sections subdivided into separate tracks, yet those sections are meant to be heard without pauses. When a CD with those separate tracks gets ripped, there is a brief pause before the next track starts. Is it still possible to remove those pauses?

Oops. I found the answer to this question after digging for about an hour.
Yes, it still can rip without pauses.
Now my issue is how to join (without pauses) music that ends on one CD and continues (without pauses) onto a second CD.
Any know of any software that does that with MP3s?

  • How do I add track marks to a continuous mix?

I purchased an album from iTunes that contains one track that is a continuous mix of music for over an hour. How do I add track marks to the mix when burning it to a cd? I would like to seperate it into smaller pieces while still preserving the continuous mix. Is this possible?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can not do it in iTunes. Well I should say, you can not do it very easily. You basically need to break the file up into many files, one for each chapter. If the files can have gaps between them (they are not continuous live a live show) you can put those files back into iTunes and then burn them to a CD. If you need them to run together seamlessly, then you may need an outside application (like Toast) to put them on a CD with no gaps. I know iTunes now supports gapless playback, but I don't know if that includes when burning to a CDR or now. I still use iTunes v6, so no experience with it.

  • PAUSE BETWEEN TRACKS

Does anyone know how to put a small pause inbetween tracks when I download them from itunes or burn a cd? Mine all run into each other.

For iTunes playback, go to iTunes Preferences -> Playback and either deselect "Crossfade Songs" or decrease or increase the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out at the end and the new song to fade in, drag the “seconds” slider left or right.
For burning Audio CDs, in the "Burn Options" dialog which pops up when you select "Burn Disc", you can select a gap between songs from None to 1,2 ... up to 5 seconds.

i try to download the song and it comes up with put in password. then it takes me to a credit card detail place. i have enough money on my account i shouldn't have to use my credit card. how can i use the money alredy on my account?

If the amount of the purchase is close to $21.07, then you need to take into account taxes may be added.
If you go beyond the credit from a gift card the balance will be billed to your credit card account.

  • I just updated and downloaded the new version of iTunes. I then downloaded some music and now the music won't play on my iPod or in my iTunes. The tracks play for a few seconds and then skip to the next track

I just downloaded and updated the newest version of iTunes. After updating I downloaded some new music and synced the iPod. The music doesn't play. It'll play about 30 seconds of the song and then skip automatically to the next song. I restarted the iPod. I restored it. It still didn't work. Then I tried listening to the music from my laptop straight from iTunes...and it's still doing it.
    How do I fix it?

I'm assuming the tracks that won't play copy/are displayed with exclamation marks. This happens if the files are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • A LOT of iTunes broken links/tracks after Music folder move...

So yeah, I'm getting a TON of broken links / dead track links in iTunes after having to do two things to my iTunes install recently and I'm at wits end trying to fix it.
I keep my iTunes Music Folder on an external and share the iTunes library between my work Macbook Pro and my home Macbook. Every Friday I drag my iTunes folder and all contents from my MBP onto an external and replace the iTunes folder on the 'weekend' MB, then do the same back on Monday. I keep my iTunes music 'View' as 'Date Added' so that I can always be listening to whatever is newest. It's how I roll.
Well, this week I had some data problems during the transfer and had to use a previous week's iTunes Music Folder, which was fine as I hadn't added much this week.
I also got a new external because the old one was getting a little shady, so after doing the iTunes Music Folder replacement I moved my music all over to a new external drive, told iTunes where it all was at. iTunes did it's thing, 'organized' my stuff and all seemed good - until I got back deeper into the catalogue of music and started getting a LOT of broken tracks. The songs are still there, in the correct folders and all, but for some reason iTunes isn't finding them.
When I say a LOT, I mean so far it's hundreds of my 13,000 songs.
Now I COULD use the 'Super Remove Dead Tracks' script from Doug's to find all the broken files then re-add the whole library, but it will add all the old songs out of order because they will get a new 'Added' date.
I could also manually move thru my whole library holding down the arrow key for 'Next' to find all the broken links then go thru, select them, and use the 'iTunes Track CPR' script from Doug's to re-add them to the library with ratings intact, but still they will be out of order time-wise.
I cannot find a script that will parse my library, find broken links, and re-associate them with their tracks, nor can I figure out why this happened and any other way to fix it. Repairing permissions hasn't helped. Any other ideas?

Just to follow up with a more comprehensive example of looping through a Library to detect & repair "missing" file-tracks:

There is no version of iTunes that truly supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" or do a web search for something like "iTunes Windows XP 64",  you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.

    Hi Ryan,
I managed to find this reference specifically for restoring on Snow Leopard:
If you are using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, start your computer from the installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility.
Now that was copied from this more comprehensive reference:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
You may also find this article helpful:
    http://pondini.org/TM/14.html
Finally, I cannot see why Time Machine would leave out your playlists and ratings? Think about it. Why would Time Machine specifically copy everything BUT your playlists and ratings? Ryan, what are your options? I would have to ask you this: Are you certain that you properly did the sync? That is another/different forum altogether: Using iPhone /see subsection on Syncing.
    Either way...
    Best Regards,

EDIT: For whatever reason I tried three times to edit out one of the redundent adjectives... either different or another which preceeds the word forum, but the advanced editor would (apparently NOT allow me to do so). I hope that it doesn't render without any adjective before the word forum.

The ipad music app does not allow me to play certain tracks that i have synced via my itunes. The tracks are clearly visibly in the music app but when tap on them to play they wont play. what do i do?

Agree about the disaster part. I haven't found a fix within iTunes.
I gave up and switched to downcast 2 days ago. Even though it was a hassle to re-subscribe to all my podcasts, im so much happier.
To make switching easier, I found that in iTunes you can "get info" on the podcast and copy the RSS address to the clipboard. Put all of these in a message note. When iCloud syncs the note to your phone, you can copy and paste the urls into downcast one at a time to subscribe.
Downcast has crashed on me occassionally when I'm subscribing to feeds, but so far it has recovered gracefully each time and no data was lost.
