Itunes pausing

my itunes keeps pausing and re-playing music on its own, what could be the problem? im using a macbook pro, with the latest update of itunes

I'm replying to my own post. I downloaded and installed the 10.4.3 update and still got that annoying pause. I then investigated further and in my case I found that I was using the pearLyric widget to download the song's lyrics and add them to iTunes. While it was adding the lyrics to iTunes it was causing a minor pause.
My fix? I used the pearLyric application and let it run to add lyrics to all songs in my library, where possible. Now iTunes doesn't pause anymore, even if pearLyrics didn't find any lyrics.

  • ITunes pauses randomly after Leopard upgrade

    Hi,
I upgraded too Leopard 2 days ago and iTunes has not been working correctly since.
iTunes randomly pauses songs (after about 30sec.), if I press play again it pauses again...
I have restarted iTunes and I have tried it with and without using Airtunes, but the problem stays.
    Anyone having the same problem?
BTW I use You Control: Tunes, but the same here, I have stopt the engine and the problem stays...

Aparently I was too hasty with my conclusion:
iTunes still pauses 'randomly'. Although I think I found when it goes wrong. Everytime I play a song after a few seconds I can here the processor working harder, at this time iTunes or Leopard is changing the iTunes database files in the iTunes folder. When it is done 'updating' them iTunes pauses the song. I don't see how we can fix this one...

  • QuickTime X and iTune pauses.

WHY QuickTime X and iTUNE PAUSES RANDOMLY??
Is this a bug or what? When i try to watch movie, it just pause randomly for about 3 - 5 seocnds. Now even my google chrome is pausing. This is totally painful and ridiculous. Why apple do not release and update for this ****?
FYI, i did all the possible fixes from installing clean Snow Leopard until installing codec and disk permissions.
Can someone from Apple reply on this issue?
Someone please tell me how to fix this problem, this is my first Mac and got totally disappointed.

You will be unlikely to get anybody from Apple to reply. If it's a bug one avenue for getting them to deal with it is to click on the 'Contact us' at the bottom of this page navigate to the lower part of the 3rd column on the page that opens and select the best choice for feedback. Give as much detail as you can about the problem. They won't usually respond to you directly but if they can replicate the problem they will include a correction in a later update.
Having said this it is possible that there is some corruption in the software which could be corrected with a re-install of the software. Unfortunately some installations don't install as perfectly as we would hope, especially if we don't follow the installation instructions completely - I'm not suggesting that you have done this, just another check to consider.

  • IChat & .Mac account - changing handle? & iTunes pausing....

    Hi all,
Two quick questions regarding iChat & 10.5...
Is there any way to change your handle/screen name when using a .Mac account in iChat? I can't find a menu option, so hoping for a hidden solution.
Similarly, whenever I start an A/V chat, iTunes pauses. Again, I can't find a preference for this - any plist I can edit to change this behaviour, or some other workaround?

If it's change as in create a new one, you have to do this on the .Mac website or on the AOL website if you want an AOL screen name.
If it's change as in use a different account that you have already registered. You can go in the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts. Then by pressing on the "+" button at the bottom you can create a new account. If you want to just modify the one that is already created, make sure you are logged out, select it in the list and change the username and password fileds to the new account and log back in.

Yes this is a default behavior and it doesn't look like there is an easy way around this. iTunes is paused by default so you can hear your buddy better and more importantly so the music is not captured by the microphone if played through your computer's speakers.

  • Why does itunes pauses when I import a CD?

I use my Mini as a music server with all music stored on an external RAID. If I import a CD while iTunes is playing music, it will finish the song and then pause the playback. Is there a workaround so it can both import and play at the same time?

I strongly suspect it is the way iTunes is programmed.  I think there is supposed to be a preference setting somewhere about playing back a CD while importing it, but importing a CD and playing something else...?

  • Why does iTunes pause when I use Shopkick?

I like to listen to iTunes and use Shopkick at the same time, but apparently I can't.  I've checked all the settings and even turning off the sound on the Shopkick app doesn't prevent iTunes from pausing the music whenever I open up Shopkick.  What's the deal?  Is there absolutely no way to listen to iTunes while using Shopkick?

Shopkick seems to be an iOS app. If so, this question will be better asked in the iPhone forum; you'll be more likely to get an answer there. Be sure to include the version of iOS running on your iPhone when you repost.

  • ITunes pause and play issue

For some unknown reason, iTunes will play/pause the current song anytime the following happen:
    - I move any file to another folder (also CMD Del)
    - I empty the Trash
    - I hit play or pause in YouTube
    - A message comes into iChat
Also sometimes in iTunes I have to hit Play button three times to get song to play. Same with DVD Player.
How do I resolve this issue?
I have all the latest software versions on a Mac Pro Dual Core.

I get a message that tells me only installed programs can be accessed. When I try to upgrade to the new version the install fails and I ma told it cannot find the file "itunes.imi".
Doublecking something, bobo ... is that the iTunes.msi file that it says is missing?
If so the iTunes.msi is actually damaged, rather than missing, and the damaged .msi is also causing the problem with launching your existing version of iTunes.
Try the procedure I outline in the following post:

  • Setting to have iTunes Pause when Locking Windows XP Pro

    Happy New Year,
iTunes used to have a setting where if I locked my desktop, it would pause iTunes.
Does anyone know what that setting might be in the latest version of iTunes?
    Thanks,
    JDL
      Windows XP Pro

I got the iTunes 7 to work on XP Pro 64bit. What I did was this:
    1. Downloaded DriverInstaller_AMD64EM64T.exe
    2. Installed it.
    3. Created this file tree: C:\Windows\Sysnative\drivers (Easier terminology, I went into the Windows folder and created a folder named "sysnative", opened that folder and created another folder called "drivers".
    4. Then I located the folder where I installed DriverInstaller_AMD64EM64T.exe ..
    5. I took the file called GEARAspiWDM and COPIED IT. I DID NOT MOVE THIS FILE!!!
    6. I pasted a COPY of this file into sysnative\drivers. The folder I just made.
    7. I installed iTunes 7, not 7.6. 7.6 and this method won't solve the burning issue. That would require more programs and more patients.
Note, you will have to manipulate iTunes when you want to burn. The best way to do this, I found, was to simply make a playlist and right click the playlist on the left column and select burn to disk. It should act normally.

  • ITunes pausing mid-song

I am a Mac veteran using the latest version of iTunes (6) and operating system (Tiger) but am disappointed to have discovered that my music pauses for a second or two with almost every track played!!!
I used to enjoy using iTunes to play music at parties etc but now feel embarrassed that I'll be let down with the playback quality! What's going on???
Has anyone else noticed this or is there an easy solution that I don't know about!
    All comments welcome!

Thanks Roger! Problem is, I already got 6.01 & there appears to be no update yet! I just hope that this issue is addressed with the next update as I've seena few other posts relating to similar problems!
Maybe I'll try to re-install an older version that was more reliable with the basic task of music playback. After all, thats what we want at the end of the day!

  • ITunes pauses and restarts

While playing a song iTunes often pauses the song for a split second and then stars again with no intervention from me, it's very weird, I've tried restarting the imac, repairing disk permissions both to no avail. It's driving me nuts, please help or post here if you have the same problem.
My music is stored on an external USB drive
It happens randomly, when I hear a pause I can rewind the track and it doesn't pause in the same position I have tried playing the music on my ps3 just to check it wasn't a problem with the song files, it isn't they all play fine.
I think this started to happen after the 10.5.7 update or the itunes 8.1.1 update. I can't pinpoint it to either one, before the updates all was hunky dory.

Check where your library is located. If you have a shared library between multiple user on your iMac and/or your iTune library is in a shared or public folder, this may happen due to this. Many use an external drive or wireless HDD to access and playback their songs via multiple desktops or laptops, they might be facing this problem as well.
The solution could be, to have entire library on the main music folder on each user. Pros: it will not pause often and will play flawlessly. Cons: if copied library on each user, it may use lot space on hard drive.
    Unless someone have better idea.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes pause download seems suddenly broken

Today I experienced something odd.  I had downloads paused in iTunes as my disk is rather full and I was cleaning it up and had done so. Lots of room.  For some reason my downloads decided to spontaneously unpause.  I got several password challenges, all of which I answered correctly before iTunes finally accepted my password.  I got several download failures mumbling that perhaps my network is down which of course it is not (witness this communication).  I hit pause all after clearing the dialogs of said seemingly bogus failures and nothing happened.  I paused each dialog one by one.  I kept getting another download failure and then all dialogs were not paused.  Rinse. Lather. Repeat.  What the heck?

I am having a similar problem. I purchased an iTunes Essential package but only half of the songs downloaded. I have the 34 iTunes songs are available for download in the download file but nothing happens when I click on the button, no error message, no nothing.
I have been in touch with Apple and have gotten their perfunctory responses all of which indicate that I have the problem not them. I asked for a refund for the songs purchased and billed but not received, but no response to that age old customer service solution.
The last fix from them was to backup my iTunes files uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it. If that doesn't work they offered to provide me with a phone number for a customer service call that I might have to pay for!! I have decided not to uninstall and reinstall the software. I'm madder than **** and I will continue to send them problem message after problem message for as long as it takes to get them to refund my money.

  • ITunes pauses/skips constantly

I upgraded to iTunes 8 on my MBP the other day and now, it's seemingly bogging down my machine constantly. I can rarely listen to a song completely without it skipping or pausing itself once. Any ideas?

A lot of people are posting about similar issues (myself included).
Someone should gather all of these into a single thread so we can track a resolution more easily.

  • ITunes pausing, playing, skipping tracks without any input.

About an hour ago, my iTunes began to pause, play and skip tracks without me doing anything at all. I made sure that i wasnt pressing ANY buttons and i even quit the app altogether. This did not help as it just reopened seconds later and began playing music again. How can i stop this from happening?

I just started having this very same problem. iTunes (9.1) will stop and start on its own. Sometimes I am listening to music while in another app, like in a browser or word processor, and it will pause itself every few minutes. It will be fine for a while, then it will pause, I start it again, and it pauses again and again. Other times it will just randomly start playing if was left paused.
The freakiest is when the app starts up by it self. I watched it Start up on its own 3 times in one hour. I think this is why my computer once woke up from sleep mode in the middle of the night.
It is like there is a ghost playing with my computer, or iTunes is possessed. I did several virus scans, and their was nothing. I also Ran Tech tool. Next I will work with Disk Utility, see if that finds anything.
The only thing that occurred about the same time was I started getting more spam in the email account that goes to my mac mail. These may be unrelated, but it is the only noticeable thing that has occurred around the same time.
This feels like some sort of Malware, Zombie computer situation, but I can't find much about Mac Malware evidence out there.

  • After recent updates, my speeds have dropped off. My iTunes pauses and buffers frequently during a song. Apple has kindly replaced my Apple TV, but the problem remains. I have spent big money on the latest WiFi router (Netgear), but no change. What gives?

I am using Apple TV, linked to my computer network via a NetGear WiFi router. After the latest apple updates, it now takes forever to load my library from my computer. Music pauses frequently to buffer before continuing, and pictures take a long time to load. Apple has replaced my apple tv on warranty, but nothing has improved.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Itunes pause sorting while editing song information

I am going through my song library and manually updating song information like genre, artist name, etc.  Is there a way to pause the live updating of the sorting list while I am doing this so that when I change the title of a song or the genre it doesn't automatically resort the list.

No. Sort the list on a field you're not changing, or copy everything to a playlist, sort it the way you want it, right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order, then sort on the heading of the left-most column of number.
Generally you'll want to assign all of the tracks from the same album the same genre. This is more usefully done with the multi-track get info dialog rather than one track at a time.
