ITunes Permission problem

I suddenly cant purchase anything on Itunes.  An alert message says I don't have write access on the Media folder or one within it.
It says to change Permissions in the Finder, chose Store, and then check for Available Downloads.
But where exactly do i start?

Your profile says you are running OS X version 10.5.8.  Is that true?  That is very old now (current OS X is 10.9.1).  Actually, OS X 10.5.8 does not support the current iTunes (11.1.4).
If your OS X and iTunes were current, I would suggest running Disk Utility (in the Applications > Utilities folder).  I would suggest repairing permissions from there.  But with such old software as you indicate, I don't even know if these facilities existed way back then, much less if they would solve your issue.

  • How do I fix the iTunes permission problem - album folder is read-only?

    Hi,
When I imported music files from Windows iTunes library, I set iTunes to copy the files to its own library folder and had "keep music folder organized" checked. So it creates a folder for each album by the album name. But recently since last time I ran the "repair permission" from DIsk Utility, every time I change album name, I lose the access to the folder. The permission is set to read-and-write for "system" instead of "me". So I can no longer edit the song (tag). But the rests of the folders and main iTunes library are just fine (with read-and-write permission to "me"). My account is admin.
I figured out a workaround for the problem. I can copy the folder to a location I own (such as desktop), then bring it back to iTunes to replace the folder. But I certainly don't want to do that every time I change album names. How do I fix the problem? Running permission repair does not help.
My mac experience started on the day Leopard was released, so please help.
    Thank you.

You should be able to select the folder, Get Info (command-I, the command key is the one with the Apple and the funny squiggly thing next to the space bar). At the very bottom of the Get Info box is Sharing and Permissions. You may have to click on the triangle to open up that section. You should be able to change permissions from there if you have admin access. You may also need to click on the little padlock in the lower right and put in your password before you can make changes. If you want to apply the changes you made to folders inside the folder, click on the little button with the gear on it and select Apply to enclosed items.
    Best of luck.

  • Permission Problems Since Clean Install of Mt. Lion

I did a clean install of Mountain Lion last month.  I reinstalled all my apps from freshly downloaded installers, rather than copy anything to my pristine system folder.  I copied my music, photos, and other documents from my Time Machine drive.  Now, I have constant permission problems on all these folders.  I don't have permission to do anything to any of these folders or subfolders.  I can't rip a CD to iTunes,  I can't sync my iPhone.  I can't download anything. I can change the permission on each folder individually, but there must be thousands of them.  There must be an easier way.  Changing permissions for a parent folder doesn't change the subfolders.  Disk Utility reports no problems when I repair disk permissions.  Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, the iPhoto app disappeared after the clean install.  I don't know how to re-install it.  Do I have to wipe my drive clean again and install Leopard from  my original DVD that came with my iMac?  That would be a huge job to get back to Mountain Lion.  I'll post this question in another thread and link it here.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Permission Problems after Migration

I have been overcoming numerous problems following a FireWire migration of files from a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.4.11 to a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.2. Nothing seemed to make the transfer seamlessly, but I have managed, after great effort and help from this community, to get the following migrated "correctly" (version changes in parentheses):
Address Book groups and cards (4.0.6 -> 5.0.1)
    iCal calendars (2.0.5 -> 4.0.1)
    Safari bookmarks (4.0.4 -> 4.0.3!)
    Mail local folders (2.1.3 -> 4.2)
    iTunes music (9.0.3 -> 9.0.3)
iPhoto pix (5.0.4 -> 8.1.1) - but "rolls" to "events" still needs work
The current problem is that a few of my files (so far, all password-protected Excel files) are Read-Only on my new machine. Not knowing that it might be an issue, I selected a different User Name on the new machine from the one used on the old machine. The machines are connected over the same network, and I have logged onto the old PB from the MBP successfully. Via Get Info, I have changed the permissions of these files from Read Only to Read and Write for Everyone, but I am still unable to save changes to these files. The Owner of these problem files is listed as the old computer's User Name. I doubt this is relevant, but I am also in the middle of changing from Office X to Office for Mac 2008. Using a tip from a MacWorld article of 3/28/08, I added the old User Name as an alias for the new User Name. This did not solve the problem.
I would truly appreciate any tips that would solve this problem quickly. I am extremely disappointed that the migration has proven to be such a painstaking exercise, one which is not yet complete.
    Bob

Baltwo, your suggestion solved the problem easily. I gave in and restored the new machine to factory conditions and then migrated over FireWire seamlessly, with everything completely organized as expected. There was never any option to enter a new username; the old username was part of the migration. I no longer have any file permission issues.
I think the problem arose because I did not have a 9 pin FireWire cable when I started and attempted to migrate over the network - an option that was available. That did not work (due to permission problems!), but somehow I must have created a username on the new machine that ended up causing all of the problems.
Thanks again for pointing to the exact solution to my problem.

  • Back End Permission Problem

    Hi everyone,
We encounter permission problems with our Visual Composer Applications.
We have created three applications using the visual composer and accessing a BI-system as backend
But the developer has super_user permissions and we dont want our endusers to have them.
Therefor we created new roles only with the permission to see that specific report.
But now, the users are not allwoed to see the data.
The error says, that I should ckeck the permissions.
Well, I did. The user can execute the queries I used directly with BEx - no problem, but within the VC-application not.
So I assume  the problem are permissions in the portal.
If I give the user super_user permissions it works, but thats not what I want.
I want the user having minimal permissions in the portal.
Is there somebody who can help me?
    Sincerely
    Mark

    Hi
Your problem looks like portal authorization issue. There is separate role for 'End Users' to execute & view the portal iview. Just check with your EP administrator, he will solve the problem. There will be role like -
    *VC_Role.
    *eu_Role.

  • [MX 2004} Can't upload! The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem

I'm running MX 2004 on Windows XP. All's been well for the
last few months, doing site maintenance at this part-time job. I
get tangled up a bit in checking files in and out, coming from
GoLive, and since there's no one else with FTP access, yesterday I
told it to check the entire site in. I didn't have any changes I
didn't want to commit, and I figured that would keep things a
    little neater.
As of today, I can post revisions to existing pages, or
resize image files, but when I create a new page, or try to place a
new image file on an existing page, I can't upload it.
So, to be clear: I have two pages already up on the site,
index.html and apple.html, with a link between them. If I create
new page banana.html and make a link to it from index, index.html
will upload that revised link, but banana.html is refused with the
    message
FTP error: The file may not exist, or there could be a
    permission problem
I know the file doesn't exist (remotely); I just made it.
I've gone to Prefs and disable Check In / Check Out, which didn't
do me any good. What next?

Can you open the FTP log, select one of these new files and
    upload it- then
cut and paste relevant part of the ftp log?
Also- does this site have a "host directory", a subfolder
    that your public
files need to go into? If yes- is this folder listed in the
    host directory
line of the remote server info?
And odd past thing i've seen-
Had hosting that used public_html as the public folder name.
They also had a symbolic link named www that pointed to
    public_html
Could upload/download existing files with www in "host
    directory" line of
dw; but could not upload new files or work with files in
    subfolders.
changing to public_html instead of the www symlink fixed this
    for me.

  • Can't download music - seems to be an iTunes Match problem

I have iTunes Match activated, which is working fine on my iPad and iPhone.  However I cannot download purchased music onto the iMac.
In my household there is a shared iMac and each user has a different login & password.  Only I know my login password.  I have been using iTunes successfully on it for years, and have been using iTunes successfully for about 6 months now.  Auto-download has been disabled for several months now because I don't want everything downloaded automatically.  All has been fine until about a fortnight ago when the iMac stopped downloading newly purchased music whenever I clicked the little iCloud icon.  This is for music that I have successfully purchased and downloaded on my iPhone whilst at work, and now want to listen to at home.  Whenever I click the iCloud icon to download the new song I get an error message telling me that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID, and I have to wait 54 days etc to sign in with a new Apple ID.  However I'm certain no other Apple ID has been used with my account - when I go to the Store menu it is showing my current and correct Apple ID.
The most telling proof that my Apple ID is correct on both iMac and iPhone (and iPad as well) is that when I plug the iPhone into the iMac, the new music syncs across EXACTLY as it should - and it can then be played without problems.  Both the phone and the computer are correctly logged in to the same Apple ID, which is the same Apple ID that I use for iTunes Match.  Also when I click Store -> Update iTunes Match there appears to be no Apple ID conflict.
Obviously this is an iTunes Match problem which I cannot resolve, can someone please provide assistance / advice.
(iPhone 4 with iOS 6, iMac mid 2010 with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, single Apple ID for iTunes Store, iTunes Match and iCloud).

  • Need Help...Do I have The mother of all itunes software problems???

I am in desperate need of help. I have fried three new ipod touches in two days. I Purchased a new 32GB 2d Gen ipod touch on Mon. 11/24. Worked okay till Friday 11/28. When I tried to sync with new additions, a warning came up “the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista windows warning “USB device not recognized”
When I disconnected the touch I found that it could not be started. Tried a forced restore pressing the sleep switch and the home button together. That did not work.
Brought the touch to my apple store genius bar on Saturday and they too couldn’t get it to work. They switched out the ipod with a new one. Brought the new one home connected it and it received the new ipod touch software download okay. But when it tried to sync the same problem repeated…the two pop up warnings as before and a second dead ipod!
I then synced my ipod classic with no problems, so it appears the itunes software is okay. I’ve scheduled another appointment with the local apple store genius bar again.
When I took the new fried touch back to the Apple genius bar, it was switched out again. It was activated (by the initial step ipod touch software download on their computer.
I brought my laptop with me so we could test the syncing. The syncing proceeded initially for several minutes, and then the dreaded pop up warnings appeared
“the ipod could not be updated, an unknown error occurred (9)” That was followed by a windows vista warning “USB device not recognized”
The new replacement ipod touch was also fried.
The tech gave me yet another new ipod touch. He had never encountered such a problem and advised me delete and reinstall itunes and call the APL CARE 800 support number and go over the problem with one of their techs who have a broad range of experience in dealing with possible PC related issues.
As my other ipod has no problem syncing from the same laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520 using Vista) I am wondering if the problem might be a corrupted Itunes software problem that affects only the touch and not the ipod classics.
Has anyone heard of a bad itunes software related problem? I googled this and could find no info. Thanks for your help!

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
    Store  >  Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

  • ITunes Encountering Problems When Importing CDs

Since I allowed an iTunes update about a month ago (?), I've been having problems importing certain (apparently random) CDs. I import a lot of books on CD, and many times "iTunes encounters a problem and has to shut down." Not always. For example, the book I'm trying to import this afternoon worked fine on the first disc, but not at all on the second. I got the shutdown message after only a few seconds. I always join the tracks before importing.
Earlier today, I was having trouble with a number of discs, but it would occur when the import was much further along. I thought I'd figured out a workaround -- instead of joining all the tracks on the CD, I joined them into two sets, each half the size of the full CD. Then imported them one at a time. Worked like a charm for about 5 discs. Then I started importing a new book, thought I'd get brave and try to import a whole CD. Worked like a charm on CD #1. Then I got to #2, and not only did it only work for a few seconds before shutting down iTunes when they were all joined together, when I tried my workaround, that didn't work either.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.1.3, with CD Driver 2.0.4.3 and CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2.
I ran CD diagnostics on the disc I'm currently having trouble with. Here are the results:

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Well, thanks for all the help, folks.
After playing around with every permutation I could think of under preferences\advanced\importing, in desparation (because the problem kept getting worse - to the point that I couldn't import any joined tracks at all) I allowed a version update to 6.0.4.2.
    No more problem.

  • Permission problems after upgrade to 10.5 on early Power PC G5 Tower

Permissions problems after upgrading to 10.5 on a client power PC (early) G5 tower.
Problems include folders that are created on XServe via this client do not allow any one else including this client to access. All other clients running 10.5, which happen to be newer Intel machines do not have this problem. Repairing permissions, updating to 10.5.1, try to manually correct permissions have all failed to repair the situation. All clients log onto the XServe with the same user/password. This client has since been downgraded back to 10.4.9 and has no issues.
The Xserve runs 10.3.9, any help would be greatly appreciated.
We have read through the forums regarding permission problems after upgrading and even tried some tips found here.

You really should check things out first before speaking.
    Here are the requirements for 10.5;
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider, fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.

  • A solution for iTunes install problems

I upgraded to the latest ver of iTunes and immediately had ALL the problems posted all over the 'net.
The following is what worked for me.
BACKUP!!! Set a Restore Point. Back up your REGISTRY. It is critical that you back it up beforehand and use caution while cleaning it. Please do this in case everything goes T. U.
Remove all references to iTunes, iPod and Quick Time. There are literally thousands and you must get rid of all of them.
Find, download, install a copy of jv16 Power Tools.
    Then:
    1. BACKUP! Set Restore Point! Back up your Registry! Did I mention backing up?
1a. Be very careful cleaning out the Registry. Take your time. Go slowly. Make sure that what you delete is only iTunes-related. Check twice before deleting. Take. Your. Time.
1b. The Registry is your PCs mind; do not scramble it. You will be sad.
    2. Using jv16s Software Manager, uninstall iTunes, iPod and Quick Time.
    3. Using jv16s Registry Finder, one at a time, search for and delete ALL references to iPod, iTunes, Quick Time and Apple Computer (BE CAREFUL; it will give you references to various 'applets" and "appletalk"; do NOT delete those. Only Apple Computer stuff.)
    4. Using Microsofts Search function, search for all remaining references to iTunes, iPod, Apple Computer (leave applets alone) and most importantly-Quick Time.
    5. When you are certain that everything that says Apple Computer, Apple, iPod, iTunes and Quick Time exists no more on your PC, Reboot.
    6. Go to www.old-software.com and download an old copy of iTunes. The one that finally worked for me was iTunes v 6.0.5
    7. Install an old version of iTunes. DO NOT USE THE LATEST VERSION OF iTUNES! Thats what caused the problems in the first place.
    8. Reboot.
Even though you previously "uninstalled" iTunes, probably using the Add Remove Programs application in Control Panel, there remains behind thousands of pieces, parts and references to iTunes and Quick Time, in the Registry, TEMP files, Documents and Settings (Application Data and Local Settings), in Windows/system32 and a hundred other places. You gotta get rid of it all.
Quick Time seems to be the main culprit, but in the end I had to get rid of all traces of all of the Apple applications before I could install again and get it to work.
It took me 3 days to figure out this procedure but once I did, it took only an hour to do it.
I've seen a couple other procedures recently posted here that look good. If you are uncomfortable with going into the Registry, try one of those others first.
And fer cryin' out loud, Apple. Yank the latest version of iTunes off your site. I did a Google search for "iTunes installation problems" and came up with 700,000 hits. Do ya think you might have a problem?
Windows XP   Try testing your upgrades before releasing them!

Im trying your method right now, when im finished ill let you know how it worked out. I agree with your comment on apple needing to pull the latest version and get a version that actually works.

  • Looking for a way to solve permission problem in windows 7

one of the biggest problems i have with this windows that even that i'm an administrator and the owner of the computer i always have permission problems folders i get a no access errors with files and folders even thoughe i should have full permisions i belive system restore doesn't work for me because permissions problem and i don't know what to do anymore i'v used uac i'v disable uac i downloaded a registry file to take owernship on files and folders and still problems so what can i do to solve all this problems?
and to be honest i really don't like the way windows 7 behave with permisions this is my computer and i am an administrator why do i have to fight to access folders like System Volume Information,Recovery,Documents and Settings why do i get the lock icon when i take owenership and i'm on the users list but when i add users everyting is fine?
    10x in advance.:)

    Hello,
This is by design. You cannot access the folder or files are protected by operation system even if your current user account is Administrator.
System Volume Information is a hidden and protected system folder that the System Restore tools uses to store it information and restore points.
In Recovery folder, there are two files: Winre.wim and boot.sdi. With these two files, you are able to boot the system to Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and do a repair without inserting a Windows 7 installation disc.
If you want to access the protected folders like “System Volume Information”, use the following method, but I do not recommend you do this. It may cause some potential problems:
    1. Right click the System Volume Information folder and choose Properties.
    2. In Security tab, click Edit and then click Add. Type in “everyone”(without quote) and click Ok.
    3. Then “Everyone“ will be listed under ” Group or user names”, click Everyone, and check “allow” full control option.
As BurrWalnut said, the “Documents and Settings”, it is a junction. A junction point is also a protected operating system folder that points to another folder. The junction point is an important part of application compatibility and does not contain any data or other files. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the “Documents and Settings” folder has been replaced with “Users” folder. All of your user profiles are saved in C:\Users\User name folder.

It will be accessible from Oracle Support's "Metalink" site.
"How to Resolve ORA-29532 Java 2 Permission Problems in RDBMS 8.1.6 and 8.1.7".
    Problem Description
Periodically an application running in the Enterprise Java Engine
(EJE) formerly known as the "Oracle 8i JVM", "the JSERVER component", or
the "Aurora JVM" will fail with a "java 2" permissions error having the
    following format :
Note : Message shown below have been reformatted for easier readability.
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
usually followed by a detailed error message similar to one of the following
    messages :
    Example # 1
    java.security.AccessControlException: the Permission
    (java.net.SocketPermission hostname resolve)
has not been granted by dbms_java.grant_permission to
    SchemaProtectionDomain(SCOTT|PolicyTableProxy(SCOTT))
    Example # 2
    java.security.AccessControlException: the Permission
    (java.util.PropertyPermission * read,write)
has not been granted by dbms_java.grant_permission to
    SchemaProtectionDomain(SCOTT|PolicyTableProxy(SCOTT))
    Example # 3
    java.security.AccessControlException: the Permission
    (java.io.FilePermission \matt1.gif read)
has not been granted by dbms_java.grant_permission to
    SchemaProtectionDomain(SCOTT|PolicyTableProxy(SCOTT))
    Explanation
The java 2 permission stated in line # 2 of each of the above "Examples"
has not been granted to the user specified in line 4 of the above "Examples".
    Solution Description
The methodology to solve this issue is identical for all java 2 permissions
    cases.
    1) Format a call "dbms_java.grant_permission" procedure as described below.
    2) Logon as SYS or SYSTEM
    3) Issue the TWO commands shown below
    4) Logoff as SYS or SYSTEM
    5) Retry your application
    For Example # 1
    1) Logon as SYS or SYSTEM
    2) Issue the following commands :
    a) call dbms_java.grant_permission('SCOTT',
    'java.net.SocketPermission',
    'hostname',
    'resolve');
    b) commit;
    Note: Commit is mandatory !!
    3) Logoff as SYS or SYSTEM
    4) Retry your application
    For Example # 2
    1) Logon as SYS or SYSTEM
    2) Issue the following commands :
    a) call dbms_java.grant_permission('SCOTT',
    'java.util.PropertyPermission',
    'read,write');
    b) commit;
    Note: Commit is mandatory !!
    3) Logoff as SYS or SYSTEM
    4) Retry your application

    2) Issue the following commands :
    a) call dbms_java.grant_permission('SCOTT',
    'java.io.FilePermission',
    '\matt1.gif',
    'read');
    b) commit;
    Note: Commit is mandatory !!
    3) Logoff as SYS or SYSTEM
    4) Retry your application

    Hi, Don,
I solved the problem of security exception I mentioned at java procedure topic as following:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.SecurityException
I tried to use your solution as following:
    call dbms_java.grant_permission('SDE', 'java.net.SocketPermission', 'ORCL.COHPA.UCF.EDU','resolve');
but SQL*plus gave me a error message:
    invalid collumn.
    What's the problem?
However, I call a grant command as following:
    SQL> grant JAVASYSPRIV to sde;
and then that exception is gone. What's the difference between dbms_java.grant_permission and grant command?
    Thanks
    Bing
