Itunes persistent silent launch issues

The problem I have is when I double click on itunes and the computer thinks for a few seconds and then nothing happens, no error message. When I check the task manager itunes.exe is running under processes, no abnormal CPU usage. I have been having this issue for about 6-8 weeks now.
In that time I made no system changes, I have been using SP 3 for about 3-4 months now. I have tried uninstalling itunes, quicktime, apple mobile device support, apple software update, bonjour, and mobile me preferences using the add/remove programs. I also followed the instructions on the apple support website for uninstall and file removal as suggested on different post as well. I have run multiple virus scans and spyware scans using avast home edition 4.8 and spybot S & D being sure to update the virus definitions prior to each scan. I ran registry cleaner (ccleaner) to fix any registry issues. I have checked to make sure my smart card is running (per previously read posts) and it is set on manual. I had deleted the sidb file with no success as well. I also created a new user account and tried installing and running itunes there with the same problem. (this is not necessarily the order in which i performed these fixes if that makes a difference) If anyone has any suggestions for additional ideas I am open to trying anything. you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
It is set on Manual.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Ran a virus scan with Avast home 4.8 with no viruses found and spy scan with spybot search and destroy with no changes to itunes launch.

When I was going through Method 4 I got this message "LoadLibrary("mssip32.dll")failed - The specified module could not be found" I got this message on both the "regsvr32 /u mssip32.dll" and the "regsvr32 mssip32.dll" commands.
I have not tried to restart itunes again. I figured I wait to see what to do next. What do you think? Vinnie

    Hi,
    I had a working iTunes 7.6 installation on 32-bit Vista.
    I've installed iTunes 7.7, which installed no problem and displayed the licence agreement screen to me. I then clicked 'Agree' and it went away.
    I can see it running in my task manager, however see no GUI.
    Rebooting the PC, 'fixing' the installation, uninstalling and reinstalling haven't helped.
    I click the iTunes icon, it shows me the progress bar 'Loading iTunes Library', and then the progress window vanishes and I see no iTunes. It is, however, running in my task manager.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Let's check to see first if this is a systemwide issue or if it is specific to a single user account.
    Try creating a new user account (With full administrative rights) as per the instructions in the following document:
    iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    Now log out of the old user account and log into the new one.
    Try launching iTunes in the new account. Does an (empty) library screen eventually come up, or do you get the same kind of behavior as you do with the the usual user account?

    I am trying to get iTunes up and running again on my PC. I have followed the "iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues"  I have uninstalled, re installed, made a new user account gone through the system - wide fixes and still no joy.  There are 5 Ipod devices in the house and we deperatly need to get this fixed.

    Then proceed to repair your Quicktime:
    Control Panel >
    Win7/Vista - Programs n Features.
    WinXP - Add n Remove Programs
    Hightlight QUICKTIME and click CHANGE then REPAIR.

    Try disabling a/v software and turn off the Firewall on your PC.
    Disable antivirus software
    Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
    Then connect the iPod to your computer. Launch iTunes. If your computer still won't recognize the iPod check out this article.

    Once your iPod is functioning again, with it connected to your computer, launch iTunes. Select the iPod under Devices in the source list on the left.
    Select the box next to:   Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
    That way iTunes should open automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer.
    And iTunes / Preferences - Devices. You can have your iPod sync automatically whenever it's connected from the Devices pane.

  • ITunes U Public Access Issue -- iTunes Fails to Launch

    I've been notified of an issue with our iTunes U public access link. When users go to our itunes.clemson.edu page and try to access our public content via the Log In No ID Required link, iTunes does not launch.
    This occurs when the user is off campus and not on the Clemson network (using IE). If the user VPN's into our network, things work as expected. This should not be a problem since the public content is available to anyone who wishes to view the Clemson iTunes U page.
    We also have the same issue when users are off campus and try to gain access to our private content by authenticating with their campus userid and password. When they are on the Clemson network, everything is accessible, but when they are not, iTunes seems to be unavailable.
    You should try this...
    - go to itunes.clemson.edu
    - try to access the public content via the "Log In No ID Required" link and reply with what happens here. (The link is an image link on the right side of the page just under the Clemson on iTunes U banner)

    Unfortunately there's behavior in some browsers that doesn't always launch iTunes successfully based on previous dialog messages the user may have dismissed or unknowingly choose the wrong option.

    I'm on a Mac OS X 10.6.8 and all of a sudden one day my iTunes failed to launch. The problem has persisted for months now--I've tried reinstalling, updating all software, removing all music files (which I backed up), I tried Safe Launching it--NOTHING WORKS. Help!! I'm Desperate!
    I was existing with my iPhone which is my main music player anyway--and I lost it in a cab yesterday! I need to sync everything (thanks to iCloud most of it is taken care of contacts and calendar wise) and I'm sort of losing hope that this issue can be resolved with the iTunes...
    Anyone ever experience this?

    Actually the drive might be working fine and there could be a Mac hardware, boot sector malware or cable issue at fault, that can't be determined until the drive is removed from the Mac and a SATA to USB adapter cable used to another Mac, PC or Linux machine.
    Even if the file structure is defective there is Data Rescue type software that can read the 1's and 0's of unencrypted data directly off the drive.

    Yes it is possible, a piece of software called MacDrive can be installed on the Windows PC and used to read the HFS+ format of the Mac boot drive.
    Linux also will read HFS+ format and also fix a lot of problems with drives to get them working.
    I suggest you take your Mac to a Linux level geek first to do a hardware evaluation of the drive, a passive image of the drive if it's working so you can later use Data Rescue (no encryption/Filevault) yourself as it takes hours.
    If the drive isn't working physically, then consider Drive Savers if you want to part with a few thousand and the drive is not encrypted/Filevaulted.
    Forget Apple and many of their type repair shops, they usually don't/won't/can't take the time and just replace your drive and tell you tough luck you should have backed up.

    Every time I open up iTunes, I get an error message telling me that iTunes has stopped working and I have to close the application. After reading up on the problem, I tried the solution that seemed to work for everyone else, copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. However, after doing this twice, iTunes still crashed on launch. I tried restarting my computer, that didn't help, and I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but the problem still persists. I can't call iTunes support without forking over $19, which I really don't want to do. Any other suggestions to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated! BTW, I run Windows 8.

    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

    I've  downloaded most recent 64 bit itunes but as soon as it launches an error message comes on just saying there's a problem and then itunes closes. I see all my music right before it crashes. Tried repair, uninstall, reinstall but problem persists.

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is connected

    This used to work fine...I'd attached my iPhone 3GS to my MacBook via USB, iTunes would automatically launch and begin synching my iPhone. Then (I'm not exactly sure what happened...perhaps it was an update, or a spate of time when I was travelling and using a spotty wireless connection, I'm not sure), but for several weeks now, iTunes no longer autolaunches and synchs when I connect the iPhone.
    I did some tests:
    iTunes does autolaunch when I connect my iPod Classic.
    I can open iTunes manually, and iTunes sees my iPhone and syncs it automatically.
    When I connect my iPhone, iPhoto does come up automatically if I have photos to sync.
    The iPhone makes it's happy little connection sound when attached to the laptop via USB and still charges.
    Under iTunes Preferences, Devices, I still have "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from synching automatically" unchecked.
    So the only thing I can see that is not working here is autolaunch of iTunes via iPhone.
    I have iTunes 10.4(80)
    iPhone 4.3.5
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    Any ideas?

    You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
    It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.

    Hello all:
    My ITunes no longer launches automatically when I connect my IPhone.
    IPhoto does, but not ITunes. However, once I open it, it connects with my phone and syncs it without an issue.
    I just want it to auto-launch for syncing.
    I've read a few posts about this, but have not seen a clear answer yet.
    The following settings on my phone and laptop are correct (I think):
    --ITunes>iPhone>Summary>"Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" checked
    --ITunes>Preferences>Devices>"Disable automatic syncing for iPhone and iPods" is unchecked
    I noted in one previous post about this that someone mentioned the necessity of having "ITunes Helper" installed in your Login Items, in your Account prefs, in order to have ITunes auto-launch when the iPhone is connected. I do NOT have this app, nor can I find it anywhere on my computer.
    Is this the problem? If so, is ITunes Helper available somewhere?
    Hoping for an answer; I've noticed that a lot of posts on this subject have not gotten responses, and wondering why.

    I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
    iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
    Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

    If I connect my iPod (set to Disk Use, no auto-launch of iTunes), then eject it through the Finder, iTunes won't launch. It hangs with no window until force quit or the iPod is unplugged. I've noticed this through several versions of iTunes.
    Note that I found this topic already in existence here, but I felt that the issue needed a bump to the top of the list.

    Does your quicktime work perfectly? I got that message when I tried to open iTunes 5 a couple times, and my quicktime wasn't being sensed by the computer at all. It was just there.

    i have had this issue before. try going to the tash manager and see if it's actually running the executable file. right click on your task bar at the bottom, go to start task manager. go to file>new task and type in "itunes.exe"
    if this works it means that the connection between your shortcut and the root file for itunes has a bad connection. youll need to find the root file, and replace your shortcuts with a new short cut. this should be in my computer>program files>itunes.

    If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
    Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
