Itunes play on launch / startup
I am a windows user, right now i have a shortcut for itunes and was hoping to make it start playing when i opened it. My hope is to add a command to the target box (like "-w" for windowed) in the shortcut's properties, but i will take any answer.
I have a fair amount of knowledge so feel free to offer any ideas such as scripts, macros, or batch files (if your answer uses coding pleae be very specific)
I understood the question in your first post. But to my knowledge there is no such mechanism.
Just did a test with the script I recommended.
This is what you could do:
Put your selection in a playlist, and name it e.g. 'Selection'.
Rename a copy of the script to: Startup iTunes-Selection.
Instead of launching iTunes, launch Startup iTunes-Selection.
I tested it on normal and smart playlists. They can reside in a folder or not.
Works perfect.
Hope this helps.

I cannot get iTunes to automatically launch at startup in Windows 7. I need it to do this so my Apple TV 'finds' my Music Library, which is stored on an external hard-drive, connected to my Windows 7 PC. Anyone know how I do this? I cannot seem to find anything on Google, which is surprising.
iTunes helper launches OK, but not iTunes itself. Am I being dim?
ThanksThe iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.
To organize your library properly see Make a split library portable.
If you don't have a working version of the library that can be transformed into a portable shape I have tools and techniques that can repair the broken links.

ITunes won't launch when iPod/iPad connected
going nuts! My iTunes will not launch when i connect my ipod or ipad. the setting to allow this is greyed out as is the option 'sync only ticked itmes'. I have uninstalled and installed iTunes several times. Changed as many settings as I can and back again. iMatch is on but that is causing me no end of grief too. Tried turning it off but that makes not difference. I can't copy a play list to ipod as it says iMatch is turned on on the iPod - it isn't!
Is the conmpouter authoris for the iTuens account?
Did you sync with this computer the last time? -
Itunes won't launch, no error message
I have an ipod shuffle and everything was fine till I downloaded the new version of itunes. Now itunes does not launch, it does not do anything atall, no error message, no hourglass, nothing.
Also, my ipod shuts down after playing for just 5 minutes. It seems like it is not getting charged even if I leave it in my computer for a while.
Quicktime launces without any problems.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Itunes failing to launch - error message (-50)
Hi
Since yesterday my iTunes fails to launch. I get the following message "An unknown error occurred (-50)". I've tried the suggested solutions but nothing has worked. Can anybody help
Thank you
TracyHi lilnikeair!
Since iTunes uses QuickTime to play audio/video content in iTunes, that error message most likely indicates that there's a problem with your Quicktime installation.
Check out this knowledge base article for information about the issue:

Itunes freezing when launched.
I just upgraded to 7.5 and now my itunes will not open properly. I read other peoples posts about "missing files" and itunes not even starting up at all.. I think my problem is a bit different. When I click on the itunes application to launch.. itunes will start up and I see my playlists load up and than I get a little window that pops up asking to enter my password for my itunes account. The little window already has my username filled in and all I have to do is enter my password.. but as soon as the window fully loads it goes blank.. the window is there.. just with nothing in it and my itunes program is still in the background.. just with none of my playlists there anymore.. and on top of that its frozen.. so I have to go to my task manager to end the program. I've tried reinstalling itunes, installing quicktime 7.2, msconfig troubleshoot and using an older version of itunes.. nothing is working.
I had a very similar, but slightly different problem (in Vista). After upgrading to 7.5, I could get into iTunes, and get a song to start playing, however, after a random time (2 seconds to 10 minutes), the playback would freeze (jitter like a skipping CD), and I would loose system control (keyboard and mouse). The only way out was to 'reset'.
I tried the advice in some other posts (which is actually fro a different issue again), and uninstalled Quicktime (7.3) in 'add/remove programs'. I then installed v7.2 9from the link in other posts), and have had no issues with iTunes since.
I would suggest giving it a try. It will only take 10 minutes, and can't really do any damage.
How iTunes 7.5 and QT 7.3 got through testing is beyond me! -

just a thought. when you do the msconfig thing again, perhaps start by doing a select startup with the itunes background processes enabled:
Background processes installed with iTunes 6 for Windows
.. and half the other startup items and services disabled. if itunes runs, you've ruled out 50% of the candidates. if it doesn't, you'll likely have narrowed down the problematic ones to being in the half you had enabled. -
I've searched and read previous replies. Here's my specifics:
On Win2K PC, trying to launch iTunes, task manager shows iTunes.exe, and perhaps 15 seconds later it disappears and iTunes does not launch.
There are no error messages.
Uninstalled iTunes, downloaded latest version and reinstalled, same problem.
QuickTime Pro launches no problem.
I don't have any Norton Software. I do have McAfee VirusScan.
I downloaded and ran Ewido. It found some Adware. If I try the full system scan, Ewido quits partway through, with no error message. If I do any of the subscans, it can complete them.
I downloaded AdAware SE and ran that no problem. It also found some Adware and removed it. Restarting and subsequent scans come up clean.
Still no change with iTunes. iTunes.exe shows up in Task Manager, and about 15 seconds later disappears. No error messages. QuickTime launches no problem.
help
-MarkI think I have this isolated, and wanted to write back to share the info. I installed a clean hard drive and did a clean install of Win2K (happens to be W2K Server), performed current updates, then installed the latest iTunes and got the same result. I uninstalled iTunes and tried the last version 5.x iTunes with the same result, I uninstalled iTunes and tried the last version 4.x iTunes with the same result.
Here's my amazing conclusion: User error, the computer hardware doesn't meet the System Requirements of iTunes. iTunes System Requirements says it requires a minimum 500 MHz Pentium, and this computer is running a P233MMX. I'd generally expect a more graceful user experience, such as iTunes not installing and a dialog.
I know that a 1998 motherboard in a PC is ancient in computer terms. Despite this board being equipped with the maximum capable and speed processor and max RAM at 256 MB, it is ancient and obsolete by current standards. No, I'm not a luddite, I have plenty of modern computers, but keep this one because despite its age it runs various server features that I use just fine. This was more of an experiment to see if iTunes would run on in anyway. I'm a little bit surprised, as the hardware runs plenty of applications that are more computing intensive than iTunes, and it doesn't require much computing power to play music, but for whatever reasons, iTunes system requirements are in fact plainly stated, and this particular computer doesn't meet them.
I'd be very interested in hearing if anyone with a sub-500MHz PC running W2K can successfully run iTunes, but I suspect there aren't any.
Again, this was merely an experiment and I think it is simply the defacto behavior for iTunes to not launch if you try to run it on less-than-required hardware. And this is merely one of seven computers in the house, I'll just run iTunes on one of the newer systems. Thanks for the input, hope I didn't waste anyone's time.

ITunes won't launch and I get a strange error message-
My iTunes will not launch and I get this strange error message: The iTunes application could not be opened. The disk could not be read from or written to. But I have no problems with the disk it is on, which is my harddisk. Help, help, help…
I have now tried a billion things: None of them work. I still get the same error message, when I try to launch iTunes after logging into my user profile. However, I can launch iTunes 6.0.1 if I create another userprofile on my computer and log into that. But that isn't very helpful. I have also tried removing iTunes 6.0.1 and installing iTunes 4.7 instead. I can actually launch that. However, I cannot connect to the iTunes music store using iTunes 4.7 nor can I play any of the music purchased from the iTunes music store. What am I to do, except curse Apple for creating a version of iTunes that many people seem to have problems with?

I want to have my iTunes play lists and play counts on my new MacBook Air
I want to have my iTunes play lists and play counts on my new MacBook Air transferred over from my old (4 years and dying) MacBook Air.
Thanks for any and all help.Copy the entire iTunes folder including the iTunes library file from your old Mac to the same Music folder on your new Mac. Then down the Option key while launching iTunes and select the copied iTunes folder. That should get you all your playlists, playcounts etc.; those are stored in that iTunes library file.

Everytime iTunes plays a song, Finder quits
I have a Mac Pro 5,1, 16 GB, 2T Startup Drive & three other drives for additional storage and Time Machine.
My finder & Dashboard quits and re-starts every time iTunes plays a new song. The screen goes completely gray & blank under whatever I may have open. It lasts only momentarily, but is quite annoying. As part of the troubleshooting, I ran Disk Utility. Checked permissions which were OK. Checked verify disk & got result that the disk is corrupt & should be repaired. When I tried to start my computer from the Recovery disk (using the Option key), it would not start (going instead to a gray patterened screen). I tried this several times & one time it did go to the screen showing the Recovery disk and my startup disk. But when I selected the Recovery disk, it went to the gray patterned screen again. I then connected my Mac Pro to my MacBook Pro & booted the Mac Pro to Target Disk mode. When I ran Disk Utility Repair Disk on the Mac Pro's startup disk, the result showed no problem with the disk. I'm not sure where to go from here, so I can use some help.I was able to get to the Recovery Disk & ran the disk utility to try & repair the disk. When I did, it quit & said it couldn't repair the disk. I was about to reformat the HD & reinstall OSX Lion, but decided to try the repair once more before I did that. This time, it was able to repair the disk. I then rebooted & found that the same problem still existed. I went back to Recovery Disk & reinstalled OSX (over the existing copy). When that was complete, I rebooted & find that the problem still exists. One thing that repeated observation of the problem has discovered is that when the screen blanks out, the background that is there when the screen comes back is a different one than was there before the screen was blanked by the change of song in iTunes. I'm going to put up with this for a couple more days, then will reformat & reinstall OSX.
I'd appreciate any assistance that anyone might be able to give me on this. -
i have nothing on this macbook air just iPhoto and iTunes and the error startup dic full message keeps coming up and the storage is full of other i don't know what to do.how do i delete all of this?
First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal. -
I cannot get sound from the web, you tube, etc, however, my speakers are on and my itunes play sound? What gives?
Hi,
Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller. After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if Youtube videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component. When done, restart IE.

ITunes No Longer Launches Automatically When My iPhone Plugs In
So as the subject line says, my iPhone no longer starts iTunes when it is automatically plugged in. It just stopped doing this after I talked to AppleCare to get my MobileMe working (my computer is old so it uses .Mac but it wouldn't load successfully so AppleCare changed some preferences around). Anyway, now when I plug my iPhone in, iPhoto launches but in order to get my phone to perform a backup, I have to manually open iTunes when before both iTunes and iPhoto launched automatically.
Anybody know how I can get it back to launching automatically when I plug my phone in to the computer?Like the poster "Sig", I have this problem as well.
I checked the Login Items in the preferences and the radio button was checked. So, that's not the case. Nor was I using any iPhone utility either.
Now, I tried all alternate USB ports on my Mac Pro and I also tried plugging into my iMac 20' 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo. My iPhone is not recognized on either. I think it's something specific to iPhone v3.01 and 3.1 software. Because, I've not upgraded my iMac's iTunes yet. So, I think we can either rule out it being iTunes' fault. That or this iTunesHelper needs is broken... if that is the case.
So, do we have some better solutions to this problem?
PS: Oh, and yes, I did update iTunes to v9.0.1 on my Mac Pro. Still no response.

How do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them?
how do i make it so iTunes plays the music files from where i have chosen to store them as opposed to it scattering copies of my files into a myriad different folders based on the albums they came from when i'm not even interested in keeping whole albums?
I recently converted myself to mac after having been a windows formatted person since the beginning of time. I use last.fm and the client scrobbler only supports iTunes on the mac (scobbling since Nov 06 and i'm now heavily dependant upon it as a means of discovering new music) - if you don't know what that means then take it for granted i have no option other than to use iTunes as my media player whn using the mac. And almost immediately upon using iTunes i was filled with horror.
My tale of woe as follows: I copy all my mp3 files to folder X on my new mac. I copy my simple playlist in to that same folder X. The simple playlist simply lists all the files in folder X in the order i want to hear them in... simple right? And what happens the moment i start playing my simple list? Well you probably all ready know; itunes throws copies of all those files in to the air, scatters them to the four winds so each of them fall into a little folder of their own representing the album they might once have come from. I don't keep whole albums. For me the 'album experience' is a ruse to trick one into listening to weaker material. I only keep the concentrated goodness. I only put up with albums in a previous lifetime because in the days of vinyl i had no other choice apart from spending hours compiling mix tapes. Now i am liberated from these restrictions and have been for the 15 or so years i've been using a computer to listen to music. Until along comes iTunes forcing me backwards in time, frog marching me back into the past.
That simple list i mentioned is my one and only playlist. This single playlist has been evolving for 15 years as tracks are added and removed and their position in the list changes because that song sounds amazing when heard after that other song whereas hearing this song after that song would be like pouring custard over your sausages (for me shuffling is an abomination). And so here is how i've managed this list and managed synchronization of said list and listed files with my mp3 player (currently a Zen).
Adding a new file: After deciding that song is a keeper i will copy it into that simple folder that holds all my music and drop it in to a position on the list i deem most suited for it. Incidentally over this entire 15 year (i'm pretty sure it's been around that long) my media player has been winamp but for the reason previously mentioned i am unable to use winamp in mac world.
Removing a file: fortunately winamp has an option to simultaneously remove a file from the list and the hard drive. And naturally so because after all if i no longer like a song then i want it expunged completely from life or at least from my hard drive and playlist. In the brave new world of iTunes i have to remove from the list there then delete the file from where iTunes copied it from and then the place iTunes copied it to.
Editing the list: drag an item in the list to it's preferred location and select to save it as i would for any other file using any other application... well desktop type application as opposed to one that uses a database as its primary means of storage.
Syncing with the mp3 player: copy drag drop playlist file from the simple folder on the hard drive to the simple folder on the mp3 player as i would for any other file. And then also copy drag drop the most recently created files from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on player after having ordered them by creation date so as to make it easier to select the most recently created. After a while the mp3 player will fill up with the files no longer on the list so i will delete all files from player then re-copy all flies from simple folder on hard drive to simple folder on mp3 player.
I do not make changes to the list on the mp3 player so synchronization needs only to go one way: from laptop to player.
So all very simple. Apart from editing the positions of files in the list everything is managed by copy drag dropping and deleting files using windows explorer.
But i'm in a mac and circumstances have forced me in to the corner of using iTunes. And this whole iTunes situation is terrifying for me as over the years i've heard horror stories about it deleting all of someone's music files. Perhaps this may have been by using the software incorrectly but even so, the very fact that it appears possible for this to happen simply by using the software incorrectly and the fact that it happens with some degree of frequency given the number of reports of this happening that i have heard of over the years on music discussion forums fills me with dread that i have to now use this software. And given the software's blatant disregard for the user's choice as to where to store his/her files it's no surprise that this happens. The software is pointlessly doing dangerous things with my data. Please make it stop.
Please can i just at the very least make iTunes play the music from the folder i have chosen to put my files in and not copy those files here there and everywhere without my say so? Thankyou.option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Thanks for the support.

Doc Raster Effects on gaussian blur
CS5, Mac 10.8.4. We inherited a design at doc raster effects of 72 dpi, using a light blue PMS 291 arch shape that was gaussian blurred to make a soft arched gradient. Changed doc raster effects to 300 dpi, and the gradient turned into a solid of PMS
