ITunes playback has inconsistent gap time between songs

When I burn a store bought CD into iTunes and then play the CD in iTunes, the gap time between the songs is sometimes inconsistent. There's a pause between some songs but others run into each other. What causes this? Can it be prevented? Thanks.

Hi Laura:
Welcome to discussions!
One workaround is to make a slideshow soundtrack by making a single long track of music from purchased or regular music:
1) Burn your desired playlist to CD in iTunes.
2) Make sure you have itunes Preferences set to "just open the CD and not automatically play or import the songs."
3) Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
4) Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
5) Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
6) When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
7) Put the new combined track into the playlist.
8) In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.
You can also Share/Export the slideshow to Full Quality DV; import the resulting Quicktime movie into iMovie and add the music there (or do the whole slideshow in iMovie). If you have Quicktime Pro, you can Share/Export the slideshow (like above), but then open the resulting Quicktime movie in QTPro, and copy/paste your music from within Quicktime.

Thanks to John Keller for typing all of that out!

  • How can I increase the transition time between songs on my IPOD?  I do not want a fade.

How can I increase transition time between songs on my IPOD?  I do not want a fade.

If Crossfade is OFF, the fadeout is actually part of the recording, so you won't be able to change how it fades.
If you want to make the silence (gap) between songs longer, there is only one setting I know of that relates to the gap between songs, and it is in iTunes.
Do a Get Info on a song in iTunes (File -> Get Info OR Cmd-I from keyboard) and go to the Options tab in the Info window.  There is a setting called Part of gapless album.  If that checkbox is checked, the songs are played with no gap.
I don't know of any other setting in iTunes or the iPod that makes the gap between songs longer.

  • Gaps in between songs

    sup guys,
When I listen to my iPod shuffle, there are gigantic gaps in between songs. Could somebody please help a guy who knows nothing about technology out? Thanks!

i tried joining the tracks but it won't let me in my itunes
You have to insert the CD, select the tracks to join and then import it.

  • I want to eliminate the time between songs in my movie

I want to eliminate the time between songs in a movie I a created.  Even though they "but up" visually, there is a gap between the ending of one song and the start of the next.

The easiest way to do this is to drag the songs in and drop them on the frame of video where you want then to start. The song will appear as a ribbon below the video clips rather than as a solid color in the background. You can drag this ribbon to the left or right. So if you have 2 songs, you can drag the second song to the left so that it overlaps with the end of the first song.
Here is a good video tutorial for how audio works in iMovie.
The method I am referring to is used for sound effects in the tutorial, but it works equally well for music.

  • My ITunes Library has a Duplicate of every song

Trying to load music on a new IPod.  Have discovered that My ITunes Library has a duplicate of every song.  Makes it very difficult to transfer albums.

If the duplicate copies all have the same date then you could do show duplicates, then sort by date added, and delete those with the new date.

  • How to adjust time between songs during playback?

I remember being able to adjust the time (space) between songs during playback. Can't seem to find that any longer. Is this adjustment only available when you burn a CD? Thanks.

This article seems to suggest you can adjust the time with crossfade.  It mentions a slider you can adjust.  I'm not on my Mac at the moment so can't verify.

  • How can I reduce the time between songs to zero for seemless mixing

Hi, Ive only just got my 5th generation Ipod and was wondering if its possible to reduce the time gap between songs to zero. I.E a lot of Cd's and albums I have are mixed so it doesnt seem there is a pause between each song but when I put the cd's onto my ipod there is still a pause.
For example I have a 2 many djs album which is heavily mixed with a new song every 30 seconds so it is a bit of a nuisance if there is a pause every 30 seconds.

Your question gets asked on a daily basis, and has been answered many times. If you search for 'gapless playback' you'll see how just how many people inquire about this.
In short... the iPod does not support gapless playback.
If you want to eliminate the gaps, one workaround is to join the individual tracks together, and play them as one single track. You can do this by reimporting the CD into iTunes using the 'Join CD Tracks' feature.
See Step 3 in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93079
If you'd like to send feedback to Apple to ask that they include gapless playback as a feature in future revisions of the iPod firmware, you can do so on this feedback page.

  • Time between songs

My grandson, not particularly noted for his patience, claims his first generation shuffle doesn't work properly. In tolerance only a loving grandfather can exhibit I have played his music (which I neither like nor understand) for several hours in both modes and checked out the forward and back buttons. All seems to be working satisfactorily. THE QUESTION: the time BETWEEN selections varies between three or four seconds to 15 or 20 seconds and can be as much as 90 seconds. Is this normal? If not, is there a remedy? My understanding is that some songs have been downloaded from iTunes and some have been ripped from CDs.

I don't think you can crossfade songs on a shuffle--the songs are loaded exactly as they are ripped. (You can crossfade in iTunes to reduce/eliminate silence between tracks.)
Many songs have extra space at either the beginning or end of them. 90 seconds sounds a bit long--but believe it or not I once discovered a 17 minute song on my playlist. I knew the song didn't go on forever, so I checked it out. It turns out it was the last song on the album and when the album was cut the song was never ended--the track just ran until the end of the CD (the song itself was only about 4 minutes).
Your grandson should note some of the songs that display these unusual gaps between tracks and then look at the actual song file.
If you have sound editing software, you can cut off the dead space at the beginning or end of songs. It's pretty easy to do this because the songs display as sound waves--and dead space is just a straight line. You can safely snip off the straight lines, re-save the sound file, re-import into iTunes and the problem will be solved.
Or, you can live with the space between tracks knowing there's not much you can do to change it within iTunes.
The only other option is for you or your grandson to burn a CD of songs with no tracks--so it will re-import as one long track. There won't be any spaces, but there won't be any option to shuffle the music either, because it will look like one song to iTunes.

  • Itunes playback has no sound

Hi, it seems that since I have moved onto itunes version 8 I can no longer use the playback for movies or music! I select a title and it appears in the itunes playback window but the diamond indicator does not move and nothing can be heard! I'm using Windows Vista and have checked my sound playback on things and all seems ok. Anyone got any idea?
    Cheers.

Hi. I had the same problem, and after an afternoon of digging and changing configurations I figured it out for my own computer - hope it works for you. Go to control panel > programs > default programs > set program access and computer defaults. You can then choose between 3 configurations: windows, non-windows, and custom. Choose custom, and under default media player, disable access to windows media player and windows media center, and choose itunes as your default. Hope it works!!

  • Taking a long time between songs, not skipping

My IPOD will not skip, and it takes a couple minutes between songs. I have tried everything I can think of, any suggestions??

    Hi JMB,
The printer goes through cleaning processes whenever you turn the printer on, whenever you perform a print job, and in the event that you leave the printer on, it uses an internal clock to determine how long the printer has gone without a cleaning. The cleaning function helps the printer to suck air bubbles or ink itself from the nozzle and thus prevents print quality degradation or nozzle clogging.
Print quality and media type settings can also determine how long it takes for an item to copy.  For faster copying, you will want to ensure that plain paper is selected as the paper type (unless using a photo or other type of paper), and that either the FAST or STANDARD print quality setting is selected.
    Hope this helps!

  • Mountain Lion has long boot time between apple logo and desktop

    hi!
i've had mountain lion since it came out and quite happy with it.
but since about a week or 2 during bootup, after the spinning wheel stops turning and the mouse shows up in the upper left hand corner, it hangs there for about 10-15 seconds before the desktop shows up.
during this time i can use the mouse, but all that shows is the apple logo..
now i've made sure that no applications are to be relaunched after restart.. so the question here is: what's it busy doing during between the apple logo and the desktop? and more importantly: how can i fix it back to the way it was? it used to be a fraction of a second between the two, and now it seems to take forever!
ps: i've a macbook pro 2010 i5 8gb (but since it worked fine before, i don't think that has anything to do with it)
    thanks in advance,
    lars

    Hi bolisaf,
I'm having that same issue. It's annoying. It's seems to take forever, and unnecessary. When the desktop cames in the dock takes long time to show, sometimes...
Can i ask you how long your boot time is?
As you did not post anythong else, did you manage to work out a solution? Or there is not a solution for this?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

  • Rented a movie from iTunes, playback has stopped and no longer works.

Today I rented and downloaded a movie from the iTunes store. Got about 5 minutes into it and the playback froze.... I tried to fast forward... Nothing. Tried to rewind. Nothing. So I closed iTunes completely and reopened. Now when I try to play the rental, I just get a black screen. I don't want to waste $4.

  • Lengthy Time Between Songs

I have the Shuffle Feature on, and everytime I hit the "next" button for a song, it takes about 15 seconds before the song plays. Does anyone know anything that can help this problem?

For what it is worth, I'm having the same restting problem. A song will play for something less than 3 minutes and then the entire Ipod "reboots": it shuts down, the screen shows the apple icon, and then it loads up. This happens whether in a charging cradle or freestanding. Occassionally it will play 2 or 3 songs before going through the reboot sequence. It is not song specific; I have no issues with itunes on my computer and no issue with the same songs on my newer ipod. Any advice??

  • Everytime i open itunes, it has to reload all my songs into the library.

Everytime i try and open itunes, it asks me to agree to the licence agreement, then re-loads all my songs back into the library.
I have uninstalled and downloaded itunes but it still does it.
How do i fix this, is there a way of locking the songs into the library?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How can I shorten the gap between songs?

I have this awkward gap in between songs. Crossfade is ridiculous and doesn't shorten the gap. Any way to get one song to fade into the next with no silence?

Is there a 4 second gap at the end or start of the two songs that gap is between? In other words, song 1 to song 2, the end of song 1 might have 4 seconds of silence at the end of it. iTunes adds its 2 seconds and the end result is what sounds like a six second gap.
