Itunes playing movies

I have the latest updated version of both itunes and quicktime but the problem persists. Each time I play a video on my computer through itunes it will lock the program up and freezes to the point of having to go the CtrlAltDel route. Any solutions for this? I just rented a movie from the itunes store and it wouldn't play on my laptop.
Tips welcomed, and thanks for reading.

As silly as it sounds, I'd suggest you first make sure you've got the latest video drivers for your machine (available at your PC manufacturer's web site, assuming you're using original video card) and reinstall them. Also, sometimes your display can either avail itself of hardware acceleration or not. You might want to try turning off the hardware acceleration features.
When you say CtrlAltDel, are you doing that to invoke the task manager?

  • Can I move only my iTunes movies, not my iTunes music, onto a flash drive? And, is there a program (apart from iTunes) that can play movies on MacBook Air?

I have a MacBook Air and I need to free up space...
    1) I have three series of a tv show on my itunes which are taking up loads of memory - see image - I want to move these movie files onto a Flash Drive. However I do not want to move my itunes Music onto the flash drive, only my Movies, and want to keep my music on my hard drive.
    Is this possible?
    2) I have managed to copy the movie files onto the flash drive, however when I tried to play one to check that they were loaded properly it didn't have a program that could run the file (they have copied over in a m4V format). Do the MacBook Air's not have a separate program other than itunes that can play movies? If so, is there a program I can get to solve this problem? I went onto the App Store to see if there was something I could download, but all the apps were for creating DVD's, not simply playing them.
    3) If 1. & 2. questions are solvable, will it then be safe to delete the movies from my itunes?
Thank you so much for any answers posted.
    Best,
    Eloise15.

If you can play the movies in iTunes, you should be able to open the movie files using Quicktime, which should already be on your system.  If you have already transferred the files to your flash drive, open the flash drive in Finder, and hold control when you click on the movie file (or right click if you have the enabled) and select Open With Quicktime Player.  This should play the movie directly from the flash drive.
If you want to set all .m4v files to open with Quicktime by just double clicking on the file, you can follow the steps here: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2573/os_x_how_to_change_default_application_to_op en_file_type/

You can move the TV shows to your flash drive by dragging them from the iTunes window to your flash drive in Finder or the flash drive icon on the desktop.  When you are sure everything is transferred over to your external device, you can delete the movie from iTunes.  I recommend playing the videos from the flash drive first before deleting them in iTunes.
To delete the videos from iTunes, you can highlight them and press the delete key on your keyboard.  In the next prompt, you would want to move it to the trash so that it is deleted from your internal hard drive.
    I hope that helps!

Reinstall iTunes. Make sure you follow the instructions in this support document to the letter. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
You may have some problems because Apple has not certified that everything works with Windows 8 yet.

  • I am now getting a error message of -9808. I have to sign in to iTunes constantly and now my disc drive will no longer play movies or anything. I have Windows XP Tablet Professional Version. Both companies are pointing the finger at each other.

I am losing my ability to play and listen to the music I paid for on iTunes. I have to constantly sign in, I am now getting an error message of -9808. I can not even play movies any more.  I am terrified to add iTunes to another computer. HELLLLLPPPPP!!!!!!

Netflix adapts to the connection. iTunes content is fixed, and will need to load a portion before playback begins.
It is best to troubleshoot the network to truly rule things out.
What is your current connection, via speedtest.net
Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try Ethernet
Make sure router is up to date, reboot along with ATV
There may also be ISP throttling

  • I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view.

  • Itunes 10.5 not playing movies on apple tv

iTunes 10.5 has been nothing but trouble since I first tried to install it.  First there were registry issues preventing me from installing.  Fixed those.  Then it wouldn't connect to Home Sharing.  That went away somehow.  Then it kept disappearing from my Apple TV, which I fixed by adding manual entries to my Windows Firewall.  Now I can't play movies from my iTunes on my Apple TV, which is bizarrely frustrating because I could two days ago.  I can play music and even music videos, but no movies.  The movies play fine on my PC.

    Hi Scott,
i have very similar problem but even with older versions.
all of my devices all use iOS 4.x, iTunes upgraded to 10.5 since a week now.
    here is my situation:
    - My itunes Windows 7 PC can ping all other devices.
    - AirportExpress Admin Tool cannot find any device.
    - iTunes does not find remote Speakers.
    but:
    - iPad1 & iPhone4 with iOS 4.x can play movies via AirTune EVERY time.
    - AppleTV2 with latest iOS update can play youtube videos and online streaming content EVERY time.
    - iTunes Windows PC has online Access every time.
    - iTunes has well working access to NAS Harddrive with music and photos.
to me it seems like bonjour does not work quite well, but i have no idea how to double check connection. is there a way to do ping / traceroute / nslookup from ATV2 without jailbreaking?
I would really like to have more technical information in iOS devices to do error determination and investigation.
last weekend i completely reinstalled Windows 7 and iTunes from scratch, as my problem exists since a couple of iOS 4.x updates. i remember it worked quite well in the beginning of 2011 with iOS 3 everywhere.
    any ideas welcome !

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Upgrade to iTunes 8 and now can't play movies

I updated from iTunes 7. something to 8 and can no longer play DVD's using PowerDVD or WMP. I can't even see the disk drive under My Computer. I did a system restore on my HP laptop and could play movies again but when I tried to open iTunes the the library had been updated and couldn't be read by older versions of iTunes.
I need to either figure what iTunes 8 did to my system or find a way to convert my library back to form that is usable by an older version of iTunes that will play nice with my laptop.

That error message used to appear with an old version of iTunes and I think it was Quicktime related:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307020
Just guessing here, but this is what I suggest:
I would remove iTunes and related programs using the following method:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then follow the advice about removing old versions of iTunessetup in the first link. Clear your temporary internet files.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes - saving it on your desktop and running it from there.

  • Itunes will not play movies... To play this movie install quick time

I downloaded itunes on a new computer and it won't play movies.  It keeps giving me the error "This movie requires Quick Time which is not included in this version of itunes.  To play this movie install quick time."  I've installed Quick Time, uninstalled it, installed it again, tried a change and repair trick that I read about but nothing has worked...please anybody help.

Okay ... that's left the field a bit open.
Can you check something for me please? I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Try playing the movie now. Does it play for you without the message?

  • ITunes won't play .mov QuickTime files anymore

My hard drive crashed two weeks ago and it has been replaced and almost all of the information was salvaged--thank god!
However, now in iTunes when I go to play a movie that previously played in iTunes, it says that the file requires QuickTime and that it is not supported by this version of iTunes.
I have over 9,000 movies in my iTunes MOVIES section that are of various formats (none are flv or avi, as I don't think iTunes has ever played those).  I've never had trouble playing mov, mp4, m4v, mpg files before.  Is this likely a problem with my reinstall of iTunes or is it that the latest version of iTunes has limited parameters than prior versions?
Thanks for any imput.  I'd really like to be able to play all of my movies in iTunes like I could before.
    Chad

I'm sorry that I have no solution to offer, but I also have noticed that several video files with the .mov extension that used to play just fine will no longer play in either the current QuickTime Player or in the older QT Pro Player 7. I have no idea what changed.

    Hi there,
You may want to varify that your system meets the minimum system requirements for viewing HD content. Take a look at the article below for more information.
