ITunes Playlist in a separate window?

When building playlist I like to be able to see my library and the playlist at the same time (like you can in WMP where the library is on the left and the new or unsaved playlist is on the right). Is there any way to do this in iTunes?
I want to see both so I don't add the same song twice, know what type of songs I've already added, artist, etc.
Thanks.

Double-click on the playlist, or right-click on it and select "Open in new window".
Regards.

Others have commented on this too.  It seems to be one of the 'improvements' of the newer version you are supposed to embrace with joy as an exciting new development.  You can send feedback to Apple but realize you may be perceived as standing in the path of  progress.

  • ITunes (11) Store in separate window?

can anyone tell me if it is still possible to open the iTunes Store in a separate window? I'm running iTunes 11. Thanks!

    No, sorry, it's not.

  • HT203128 Can I view a playlist in a separate window???

Is there any way to view a playlist in a separate window? We used to be able to do this in older versions and I really need that function!

Apple removed this feature 3 years ago. you can't anymore.

  • No more separate windows on iTunes

Since the last updates iTunes seems to have lost - at least for me - one  Until version 9.0 (I believe) it was possible to tear off any playlist in a separate window. This made shopping within the store very handy indeed, you could simply compare one or more playlist with anything in the shop. Iw think that would come in handy for any music lover who wants to compare versions of various compositions or composers, leading in many cases to purchasing items, which in turn would be good for sales for Apple, neb?
Alas, this tear-off stuff has gone. Now I can only switch between one playlist and the music shop. So, with a composer like Bach and thousands upon thousands of different performances to choose from or to complement one's collection I have to switch rather tediously between playlists and shop. And while we're at it, why is it so difficult to get albums with the composer's name added to album and artist?
But my original questions is much more important, for me anyway. Has anybody come up with a clever solution in which we may have tear-off playlists again?

  • Opening store or playlist in separate window removed. Why Apple?

iTunes 11, Apple removed the ability to oen the Store or Playlists in a separate window by double clicking. INSANE!
Apple now makes work so much harder in this version of iTunes.
I tag all my over 15 thousand songs. I get a lot of music that I import that needs track info. I used to oen the store in a seaprate window, Read the info as I typed into into the track in tanother window. Not anymore. Apple now takes me OUT of the playlist window to the store, and either I write the info down or take a screenshot then go back to the track to be worked on. Then I run a script for getting the lyrics, which why Apple doesn't work that deal out with labels/publishers is another open question.
I work in iTunes hours a day, Apple now increased this time by more hours.
iTunes 11 makes life harder not easier for me anyway.
As a side not - after installing iTunes 11, I figured best to run a sync of my iPhone, set up to do over wifi. Started the sync left room to make coffee came back to computer and iTunes was in the process of installing ALL my apps on the iPhone! WHY Apple?
SO I cancelled the sync, then had to go and click remove of about 100 apps it already installed.
iTunes 11 was not ready for release IMO.
That's ny rant. If anyone knows a script that may open seaprate window for store or playlist please let me know.

  • In iTunes 11 how can I view a playlist in a separate (new) window?

In iTunes 11 how can I view a playlist in a separate (new) window? I always did this by double-clicking the playlist. That doesn't work now!

found it - at least this is part of a solution -
    http://www.betalogue.com/2012/12/04/itunes-11-edit-playlist-to-work-around-the-s ingle-window-limitation/
while the discussion in the link (here in this reply) does not tell us how to open a new window - it does tell us how to view any particular playlist and the entire library list at the same time in a split-window view - but there still does not appear to be a way to open two playlists at the same time.?

  • Does iTunes v11.1 support opening playlists in separate windows?

Just curious is if iTunes v11.1 supports opening playlists in separate windows as iTunes v10 does.  Anyone checked this out?

    That feature is gone.

  • Is there a way to open a playlist in a second window in iTunes 11 - like all previous versions of iTunes could?

Is there a way to open a playlist in a second window in iTunes 11 - like all previous versions of iTunes could?
To build a playlist, I would open a newly created one in a separate window, then in the main widow I would roam through the full music collection adding songs to the playlist - by simple drag and drop - as I find them. But this doesn't work when I have to jump between full list view and playlist view in the same window - that kind of confuses the process. I need to be able to see the playlist I am building while I roam through the main list, using two windows to see both lists of songs at the same time. Is this no longer possible in iTunes 11?
    Using iMac 10.7.5

Apple never officially comments on these posts, true, and I have no idea if they pay much attention to this very helpful user to user forum set-up here, but they do let you provide feedback at-( http://www.apple.com/feedback/ )-for any product concerns you may have, though they don't respond there either, which I think is understandable. I think they do consider feedback while developing updates and I expect they try to incorporate feedback concerns as they create updates and revisions. But it is probably exceedingly difficult to include all feedback concerns or please everyone all the time.
A long time ago I was complaining to them about how the full music library view would jump to show next song playing every time a new song started and that would take my view away from wherever I had scrolled to while the last song was playing. That was annoying and they eventually fixed that issue in iTunes 11.
I have sent apple my feedback concerns (more than once) about how it really helps to open separate windows to do playist creations and edit, revise, and manage playlists - and how that split window method is not easy to use (linked to in a previous post I made on this thread). The more people they get feedback from asking to be able to open multiple iTunes windows, then the more likely they will bring that feature back. So don't forget to provide feedback (go to feedback link provided herein).
Hopefully it won't take them years to return the multiple window capability in a future update.

  • Adding iTunes playlist as separate file in iDVD

I am creating a DVD using video created in iMovie. In addition to the movie, I would like to include a separate file of the music (something like a soundtrack in the form of an iTunes playlist) that can be accessed through the main menu. I have not been able to find an answer in iDVD Help.
How about adding a folder of the photos that were used to make the movie/slideshow?
Can either of these be done?

You can add music files to the DVD-Rom section of the Dvd but you won't be able to access the files unless it's from a computer (since the dvd rom section isn't readable on most set top dvd players).
You can add audio to slideshows ie "Fit Slides to Audio" or you can add audio as a separate track within the video editing application (iMovie). However, iDvd wasn't really designed as a video editing app (apple leaves this function to apps like i-Movie, FCP, FCE, etc.)
Essentially, iDvd is to iMovie what the candy wrapper is to a chocolate bar. It's simply the exterior packaging of the movie you made in iMovie or FCP.
frankly I normally use a CD for all audio files (that or an iPod). But if you want to write audio files to a Dvd then consider an app like Roxio toast and make an audio disc.
An audio disc is a CD or DVD that contains audio files. Audio discs are meant to be played in a home or car stereo, in a set-top DVD player, and can also be used in a Macintosh or Windows computer.
or select from these types of audio disc
    Types of Audio Discs:
Toast can create many kinds of audio discs - more than any other Mac burning software.
    • Audio CD: This CD can be played in most home or car stereo CD players, set-top DVD players, and computers. This is similar to a standard commercial CD you can purchase in music stores. This is the best choice for playback in a CD player. See Making an Audio CD.
    • Music DVD: This DVD can be played in a set-top DVD player or in a Macintosh or a Windows computer with a DVD player. A music DVD can contain over 50 hours of music and has full navigation menus for song selection. This is the best choice for playback in a DVD player. See Making a Music DVD.
    • MP3 Disc: This CD or DVD can be played in home or car stereo MP3 disc players, some set-top DVD players, and most Macintosh and Windows computers. MP3 discs have longer playing times than audio CDs but their playback is less universal. See Making an MP3 Disc.
    • Enhanced Audio CD: This CD can be played in a home or car stereo CD player. It contains additional data content, which is accessible in a Macintosh or Windows computer. See Making an Enhanced Audio CD.
    • Mixed Mode CD: This CD can be played in a Macintosh or Windows computer. It offers playback compatibility with older CD-ROM players and is rarely used. Enhanced Audio CD is a better choice for this type of disc. See Making a Mixed Mode CD.

I recently lost my windows laptop due to a virus. I had backed up all files onto a drive(files only). However no itunes playlists. i have all my playlists on my iphone and pics etc however when im trying to sync to my new computer itunes wants to  deletes all data off of my iphone so i click cancel
i want to update to iOS 5 and still have itunes be able to copy my playlists from my iphone. for free. why does apple provide a recovery from iphone option?

If you have a backup, restore the ENTIRE iTunes folder to the computer.  This restores the library and device association files.  If for some reason you chose to only back up the media and not the entire iTunes folder, then the only option is to let iTunes wipe the drive and re-sync.

Try HT203242: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install.

  • Why can't i open a playlist in a new window with itunes 11?

so i can apparently no longer open a playlist in a new window... how am i supposed to drag & drop songs in the order i want them to play?

I get your point and I was really just trying to break your sense of despair. It is easy to become overwhelmed when something big and new comes along. We all have our own ways of doing things which we become used to and ...... well you know what I mean.
Now, lets see if I can help you learn how to use this wonderful iTunes to get a grip on your music at a basic level.
Start by going to the SONGS pane. This is the workplace, the most powerful place to be for finding stuff, organising and maintaining your music. The other panes are the pretty places to go when you want to play and enjoy your collection after the work is done.
Make sure that you have the basic columns showing (View Menu, View Options). I suggest that essentially you should tick the following boxes :- Album, Artist, Checked, Genre, Time, Track Number, Year, Plays.
In the column for Album, if you repeatedly click in the heading, the heading will cycle thru Album/Album-by-Artist/Album-by-Artist-by-Year. Play with that a little and see what it does. Also note that every column can be sorted by clicking in the column heading. The column that you are currently sorted by is shown by a little up or down arrow.
Then turn on the Column Browser (View Menu) and check Genres, Artists Albums.
Now you have the tools to find and organise. You have the view-by-genre you wanted. You can select all genres or you can select one or many. Same for Artist. Same for Album. Your selections are reflected in the lower songs pane. The horizontal division between the Column Browser and the Songs can be raised/lowered by grabbing the top of the heading line.
Turn on the Status Bar (VIew Menu, Show Status Bar). The number of songs, the playtime and the disc space that your selection uses is shown here.
NOW you should be able to do just about anything. Enjoy
