ITunes playlists sharing problem

One laptop 2 logons. How do I home share between them all ITunes music and playlists loaded via only one user logon and its Appleid ?

As far as I know, you can only sign into one account and utilize "Home Sharing".

  • Strange isolated playlist sharing problem

Okay, here's a strange library sharing problem to solve.
First, some basic info on my home network:
Computer #1: PC running Windows XP. Wired network connection.
Computer #2: PC running Windows XP. Wireless network connection.
Computer #3: iMac running OS X. Wireless network connection.
All computers are running the most recent version of iTunes and have previously been able to share iTunes libraries without any issues. Library sharing is turned on on all computers, as is the "look for shared libraries" setting.
    Here's the problem:
When I first open iTunes on computer #2 I see the shared libraries from both of the other computers. However, about ten seconds later (or if I click on the library listing) the library from computer #1 disappears.
What's strange is that I can still access the library on computer #3 just fine from computer #2. Conversely, when I'm on either computer #1 or #3 I can view and listen to the libraries from either of the other two computers with no problems.
Bottom line, I can't access computer #1's library from computer #2 - though I can see its listing briefly when I first run iTunes on computer #2. It would seem to make more sense if I couldn't see the library listing at all, or if I couldn't access the library from the third computer. However, this isolated and somewhat intermittent inability to access computer #1's library from computer #3 seems strange - particularly given that I can access computer #3's library from computer #1.
    Isn't technology grand???
Thanks in advance for your help!

Syncing the normal playlist was just to make sure your iPod had all the correct songs on it. My thought was that if the smart playlist rules were being synced rather than the music itself, then the smart playlist would populate correctly when it had access to the correct songs.
Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I guess Chris CA is right and you will just have to wait for Apple to release an iTunes update that fixes this bug.
Until then, I've given you a relatively easy work-around, so hopefully that can tide you over.
    Cheers.

  • Itunes - Home Sharing Problems

Ok, i got a new dell about a week ago, i had all of my music and itunes files on a mac and i wanted to transfer the music to the new computer, i did that and got maybe 30 songs over their but it said the iphone was synced on the mac so i had to erase the contents if i wanted to copy music from the dell. so i went back to the mac, transferred the purchases from the iphone to the computer then was gonna import those from home sharing onto the dell, only problem is the home sharing tab on the side bar wont show either computer?
so i made sure we were on the same wifi - it was
made sure the home sharing was on, on each computer- it was
then made sure we were logged onto the same itunes account - it was
after i got frustrated with that i decided to check, i took the dell laptop into the room where apple tv was and what do you know, i could play the files on the dell on the apple tv. then i tried using the remote app on the iphone on the mac (since the computers a desktop, i couldn't move it) the remote controlled the mac fine ( the remote works over home sharing)
    please help
    sincerely, a apple customer

what you want to see in iTunes is this (view from my MBP's iTunes seeing the library on my Mini)
if you then click on the house icon, it will change to this and the shared library will load. at that point, two buttons will appear in the lower right corner of the iTunes window, being settings and import
now you should be able to import any content from any shared library by selecting the content and clicking on import.
if the icon looks like this , home sharing has not been set up correctly.
in order for home sharing to work
    (a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
    (b) all machines must be on the same network
    (c) all machines must have access to the internet.
if none of the above makes a difference, try turning home sharing off on all computers, then turning it back on.
these reads will be useful: one and two.

  • Itunes playlist syncing problems

Hello to everyone at the forum.
I have a Blackberry 8900 with a 32GB micro sd card linked up to a HP laptop with windows 7, used mainly for music. I have playlists created on Itunes and I use blackberry media sync to transfer said playlists. Out of the 2000 tracks on both playlists roughly 1300 are being synced to the device. The other 700 tracks do not appear under the "song" category however they do appear in the playlist in a red background with the song information from the file as it is stored on windows unlike the way the information is presented on itunes.
The majority of the unsynced tracks are in mp3 format therefore format problems are unlikely. Also one particular album can contain both synced and unsynced tracks.
    Your help is greatly appreciated,

Then my theory about match taking over is correct and unless you disable it you will not get your playlists back.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at anytime by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.

  • ITunes playlist burning problems

When ripping a large playlist, itunes will burn the first CD and requests another disc be placed in the drive but burns the exact same songs it just ripped even though all the songs where checked.
How do I get iTunes to continue ripping the rest of the playlist?

That did the trick! I must have goofed on the first attempt as no problems were had after splitting the playlist. I was able to complete the playlist burn.
    Thanks pac_80!

Home sharing problem: I have never set up home sharing but I feel I the concept and how it works.  I recently (last 2 months or so) deauthorized, first time ever, all computers with my iTunes account. I have 3 computers authorized.  I am trying to set up home sharing but get  iTunes says:
"Home Sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the Apple Id "#########@###.com". Would you like to authorize now?"  I click "authorize" and get the next error " You cannont authorize more than 5 computers.  You have already authorized 5 computers with this Apple ID.  To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers."
Can someone help or shed more light on my problem?
    Thanks,

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

  • WinXP and iTunes 10.5.1.42 Home Sharing problem

    The setup is
    WinXP SP3 patched
    iTunes 10.5.1.42 installed and reinstalled
    2 iPhone 4S firmware 5.0.1
    1 iPhone 4 firmware 5.0
All the devices and ITunes share the same Apple ID, ITunes Edit->Prefs->Sharing->Share My Library turned on, Advanced->Turn On Home Sharing is ON
I tried restarting all the devices, restarting the router, deauthorizing, using a different Apple ID, all to no avail. When I am setting up Home Sharing the SHARING title appears in the left pane, and under it Home Sharing. As soon as I press Done, it dissapears?!
On all 3 iPhones everything is set OK, but when one enters the Music APP, and presses more, there is no SHARING in the list, like there should be?!
And yes, the firewall is off, and everything else works GREAT?!
I am all out of ideas
Thanks for any input - I am a new convert from Android, and I must admit I was expecting more robusness from Apple

P.S. I suspect it is the ITunes windows application problem. I am hoping everything will start working if the phones find the actual sharing resource on the local network

More findings, maybe related. Tried to pair my iPhone Remote app both with my WinXP Desktop and Laptop ITunes, and it does not work through Home Sharing not by using the code to connect.
The ITunes windows application says remote paired, it sees my device and accepts the code, but the iPhone Remote app says could not find the library
Isn't this stuff just supposed to work?

  • Can you search on a shared iTunes playlist ?

I am trying to search a shared iTunes playlist and get an error on a shared playlist for a search that works fine on the local library. Can you tell me how to get this to work ?
property away_CPU : "iBook Music" -- This is the source name of the shared iTunes playlist we wish to investigate from another machine
    So get the CD name
    try
set dialogAnswer to display dialog ¬
"Please type the name of the album" buttons {"Find it", "Cancel"} ¬
default button "Find it" default answer ""
if (button returned of dialogAnswer is "Find it") and (text returned of dialogAnswer is not "") then
set disk_name to text returned of dialogAnswer
    tell application "iTunes"
set track_list to search playlist "Library" for disk_name only albums
    log "Local (" & (count of track_list) & ") -" & track_list
set tracklist2 to search playlist "Library" of source away_CPU for disk_name only albums
    log "Remote (" & (count of tracklist2) & ") -" & tracklist2
    end tell
    end if
on error number -128 -- userCanceledErr
    end try
You will need to set the property to the name of you shared playlist.
    I get the error:
iTunes got an error: playlist "Library" of source "iBook Music" doesn't understand the search message.

    Thank you HD,
You are essentially right. I guess it's a case of seeing what i expected to see and not what was really there. So thanks for making that clear.
I tried what you said. I ran your script and i saw that under "iBook Music" the library is also called "iBook Music"; not "iBook Music's Library" as you suggested.
Thus by replacing the string "Library" with another occurrence of the away_CPU variable in the second search it now works.
    Thanks very much

  • I am having problems with my ipod syncing all of my videos to my ipod from my itunes playlist, it will only sync about half even though they are all checked

i am having problems with my ipod syncing all of my videos to my ipod from my itunes playlist, it will only sync about half even though they are all checked

I assume there is more than ample space remaining on your iPod to hold all the videos?  Are you getting any error messages during the sync process?
Do all of these videos play okay in iTunes?  Is the sync only checked songs and videos option enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab?
What other setting do you have enabled from under the iPod's video configuration tab in iTunes?

  • HT1549 itunes home sharing import problem

I am not seeing the "items not in my Library" or the import button, in itunes home sharing, but I see all the files on the other computer, and I can play them. I don't understand why it is not there.
    Thanks

i'm having the same problem with home sharing of songs from my aluminum macbook, running itunes v9.2.1(4) in snow leopard v10.6.4, to my windows pc, running itunes v9.2.1.5 in windows xp professional sp3.
in my case the sharing has worked perfectly before and works fine with songs from the pc to the mac and songs from the mac that are already in the pc's library. so only songs not in the pc's library seem to be affected.
the error message tells me to check my internet connection, which also seems to working fine.

  • Problem with iTunes family sharing payment & app licenses

    Hiya,
We're using iTunes family sharing with my wife since iOS8, on our iPhones (4S & 5, both with latest iOS). My account is the "Organizer" and my wife has Parental access (so she can use the same payment method, my credit card).
There are a couple of shared apps we use - I purchased them originally and they are available for her to use via family sharing. Apart from the early days' hiccups with iOS8, we had no issues with this setup, that is, until yesterday. All of a sudden, when trying to access the shared apps, she started to get error messages like "this app is no longer shared with you" and the like.
We tried the following to no avail:
    - deleting & re-installing the shared apps
    - leaving & re-joining family sharing with her account
    - updating the payment method that is attached to my account (effectively my credit card)
When trying to update my payment method, it seemed weird that:
    - Apple was asking for the security code of my card (that is OK so far), and when I input that...
    - ...Apple stated my card is expired (which is simply not true, it's still more than a year until expiry)
And on top of that I couldn't update nor delete nor add any other payment method, at least on iOS (haven't tried desktop iTunes yet).
By the way, I did a test purchase on my account, and it worked perfectly, so it seems that my card is OK as long as my account is initiating the purchase.
    Questions are:
    - how can I fix the family sharing issue?
    - what's wrong with the payment method checking?
    Cheers
    Tamas

There are a few reasons why that would be the case. Any apps that you may have purchased and then transfered to her device would need your account information in order to update. Thats why when you go to update it brings up your id. Also make sure to check under settings that she is signed in on the device to her account not yours. You can check this from settings<store<view accout or sign in/out.
Any app you purchased is tied to the account it was purchased on, no matter if it is stored in an itunes library on a computer, a free app or free update.

  • Playlist Sharing/Syncing

May / How can I get a [smart, with live updating] iTunes playlist from one Apple ID & iMac User Account to an iPad2 synced to another Apple ID & User Account on the same Mac?
All of my music is on an iMac with multiple user accounts.  The library is successfully shared, including with my wife's user account on the same machine.  Her iPad is synced to her user account, which users her own Apple ID, different from mine.  I would like to be able to load iPad with music from my iTunes.

I am having the same problem. I cannot sync itunes playlists from my macbook to iPhone 5 since updating to Maverick. However, I am able to create a playlist on iphone that will sync to macbook itunes playlist. I've tried many other solutions suggested on other threads and nothing is working.

I have given up on my dell and bought an iMac 27"... Now how do I transfer my dell iTunes playlists from my dell to my iMac, as they are showing on the iMac when I plug in my iPod but it's not allowing to me to play them as they are shaded? I have also separately transferred all my music via my external drive from my dell to my iMac which is showing in iTunes but won't upload to my iPod... Just to confuse you even more my AppleTV which is linked to my log in email address and home sharing is showing and playing all the playlists I want to see on my iMac... Phew that was exhausting hope you understand and can help me:-)

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.
