ITunes Playlists synch to iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch but no songs

Hi,
am usin iTunes 11 with iTunes Match; have been using playlists heavily and built a good collection. Recently upgraded to itunes 11 as well as iTunes match. Have managed to find playlists and make them work in new iTunes. When synching them onto my iOS devices, the names of the playlists synch, but no songs in them. Never seen this issue before, what on earth do I have to to do to get my songs synched?

I am having a similar problem.  I can't get the digital copy to sync to the ipod touch.  The "Create iPod version" under the Advanced menu is grayed out.  Any other tips?

You can move the rental between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period. However, the movie can only be played on one device at a time. If you rent a movie on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on that device.
This is a confusing statement. Can really move the rental between devices or not???

If you originally downloaded it to a computer, yes. If you originally downloaded it to an iOS device, probably not; if you want to try anyway, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes.

  • Does messaging to/from iPhone to/from iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch count as a text charge for Verizon?

My dad has an iPad 2 and my little brother has an iPod Touch (4th generation). As long as there is a Wi-Fi signal, they are able to message, Facetime, and use the internet all for "free" (no extra charges from our internet service provider, which is obvious).
My dad recently purchased an iPhone 4S from Verizon.
He is currently on the "Pay As You Go" plan for messages ($0.20/text and $0.25/picture and video).
When are messages free, and when are they not free? Are they free as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal? Are they free as long as it is from the iPhone to another iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch? Do I get charged for data only when I see the "3G" symbol displayed in the upper left corner of the iPhone?
    Thanks in advance!

I then turned Wi-Fi off on the iPhone 4S but had "Send as SMS" turned on, tried sending another message to the Touch (Wi-Fi activated), and it did not send at all (because the Touch is SMS-incapable).
That sort of makes sense, but even with wi-fi off the 4S should have been able to send the iMessage over 3G to the Touch, which was on wi-fi.  Your results would only make sense if the 4S didn't have 3G service, or if the iMessage servers were down, or if you've turned iMessage off completely on the 4S.  That would force the message to go out as SMS but the Touch can't receive SMS.
Sorry, I was a bit unclear there.
I had both Wi-Fi and Cellular Data (3G) turned off to see if "Send as SMS" alone would work if I was sending a message to an SMS-incapable device (to see if the iPhone would try anyway and to see if I would get charged for that).
I'll type out some scenarios, and tell me if I'm wrong on these. They might seem redundant since you have pretty much answered all my questions, but I want to make absolutely sure that I understand. These could also clear things up for others who will/have read this discussion.
Scenarios involving iPhone 4S to iPod Touch (both running iOS 5):
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on. Touch has Wi-Fi turned on.
4S can iMessage to Touch via Wi-Fi (as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal) free of charge and will remain free of charge and with no accrued data usage because 4S prioritizes Wi-Fi before 3G before SMS.
Once out of range of the Wi-Fi signal, 3G kicks in and any iMessages sent from 4S to Touch will count towards data plan usage (in my dad's case, 300MB/$20 per month - the minimum plan). However, data size will be insignificantly small if it's a simple words-only message and will only be a fraction of a percentage of the 300 MB.
My dad turns off Cellular Data (3G), Wi-Fi is still out of range, and he sends a message (keep in mind that "Send as SMS" is still turned on). Because the Touch is not capable of sending/receiving SMS messages, the message will just fail to send.
These scenarios would also have the same outcome if the Touch had been a Wi-Fi-only iPad. If the iPad had 3G capability, the message received from the 4S would have added towards the data plan usage of the iPad.
Scenarios involving iPhone 4S to another iPhone (both running iOS 5):
Both phones have Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on. Messaging plan for each phone is "Pay as You Go" - $0.20/text and $0.25/picture or video.
iMessages are free and do not count towards data plan usage if both currently have strong Wi-Fi signals.
4S still has strong Wi-Fi signal, other iPhone gets out of Wi-Fi range and switches to 3G. Any messages received by the other iPhone from the 4S will count towards data plan usage of the other iPhone. However, the outgoing message from the 4S will still be free and will not count towards data plan usage.
Other iPhone turns off 3G and is still out of Wi-Fi range but still has "Send as SMS" turned on. 4S (with strong Wi-Fi signal) sends message, "I love you." to other iPhone. The message will still be free and will not count towards data plan usage for 4S but will charge $0.20 to other iPhone.
Scenario involving iPhone 4S to Samsung Galaxy 2 (running Android OS):
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned on.
Any message sent from 4S to Galaxy will count as SMS because Galaxy is incapable of iMessage. Therefore, Wi-Fi and 3G are insignificant, and 4S is charged $0.20.
4S has Wi-Fi, 3G, and "Send as SMS" turned off.
4S will not be capable of sending anything.
4S has Wi-Fi and 3G turned on, but "Send as SMS" is turned off.
4S has strong Wi-Fi signal, but message will not be sent to Galaxy.
4S gets out of Wi-Fi range and 3G kicks in, but message will not be sent to Galaxy and no data usage will have occurred.
That should be everything...at least everything I've considered.
    Again, thank you.

I have an iPod Touch and an iPad4. iTunes recognises both items and lets me work with the iPod Touch but won't work with the iPad. In fact iTunes does not respond to clicking on anything in the iPad window even though it knows that it's connected. Any ideas?

  • How do i sync one itunes account with two iphones, one ipod touch, and a nano?

I need help in how to sync the one itunes account we use as a family with the two iphones my wife and i have and an ipod touch that my son has and a nano that my daughter has. Please help.

That article applies, as far as I can tell, to all things called iPod X where X can be nano, touch, classic etc.
We don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to our computer
To make sure your apps don't inadvertently merge turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • How do you handle the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch with PHDs?

This is one of the areas that I'm having the most difficulty right now. Here's the setup:
    1 Server with 10.5.8
    3 desktops with 10.6.3
    2 laptops with 10.6.3
3 users, each of whom has an iPhone. Let's say Jane has been using her desktop all week but is going to work from home on Friday, so she takes a laptop. She logs out of her desktop and logs in with the laptop while on the gigabit ethernet LAN to save time. This goes well, and she goes home. Friday she logs in and needs to sync her iPhone. It now says that she needs to authorize the machine. Ok, she dos this. Uh oh.. now she's at her limit of 5 machines. (Since the iTunes Music Store only lets users authorize 5 machines, this might pop up again) - also, it shows that she has 10 updates to her applications. She thinks this is strange because she had just synced her iPhone the day before and there were no additional updates, and the updates that the MacBook is showing her are the same versions that are installed on the iPhone already.
I suppose that she can simply re-download the stuff and it won't be an issue, but is that the only effective solution?
What have you folks done to facilitate 'ease of use' when using portable home directories and iPhone/iPad users?

The iPod touch doesn't have the "enable disk use" option of other iPods.
A program called AirSharing will let you mount the iPod touch as a wireless drive

  • Why are my ITunes playlists on my iPhone, iPad and Mac not the same?

I don't understand the ITunes.  I have an Iphone, Ipad and new Mac Probook with Retina Display.  When I add songs to ITunes my playlists do not synchronize.  I have to manually delete the playlist on my Mac, create new ones, then synch with USB to each device.  Isn't there an easier way to manage the playlists?

You can't drag and drop content onto smart playlists, only regular ones.

  • After upgrading to Lion , itunes does not recognize my ipad, ipod touch anymore.

Yesterday I updated to Mac OSC Lion on my original Intel Macbook (the first Aluminum Macbook) with 4GB RAM.
Today I had a run in with my ipad and ipod touch, both of whom are not being recognized by itunes anymore.
My ipod shuffle and classic are still being recognised and do sync.
I have read through the support pages and annoyingly even factory-reset my ipad, which cannot be used anymore due
to itunes not recognizing the device !
System profiler does show either ipod or ipad being connected to the usb port. Resetting of the devices did not help (see above)
Any clues to this inconsistent behaviour differentiating between classic ipods and ipod touch/ipad ?
    js.

update: It seems like the XCode update did interfere with itunes. I reran the XCode install this time with itunes not running. This seems to update all necessary drivers and Library items correctly.
After this IPad and IPod touch were working fine again.

  • My Airport Extreme basestation used to work but upon returning from holdidays it no longer allows me to connect wirelessly through it to the internet on my iPhone, iPads, ipod touches  and my apple tv2 cannot access the network either.  Wired still works

When I returned from holidays I could not access the internet wirelessly through my Airport Extreme (5th gen) from my iPhone, iPod touches, ipads and my AppleTV 2 no longer can access the internet or the network either.  I can get access to the internet on my iMac when wired directly into an ethernet port on the Airport Extreme.  I have tried resetting my AirPort and created new networks but still doesn't want to co-operate.  If I get wireless internet it is very, very slow and incosistent.
    Any suggestions?
    Rick

I see now that long questions are not going to be read and answered.  Understandable.  Since writing this I got help on one aspect of question and now have Airport Extreme visible through Airport Utility and it seems to work.   However the wireless printer still does print. On the printer's screen, it recognizes my wireless network and connects. When I try to print from the MacBook, the usual printer icon comes up, but with Printer is Offline.  Printer is Not Connected.  So far, nothing in Apple or Brother help has given me answer to this problem.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Itunes wont recognize my 4th gen ipod touch but computer will

iTunes refuses to recognize my 4th gen. iPod touch. Both are up to date with software and ive restarted my computer, ipod, and itunes multiple times and done everything ive found online. the computer recognizes it and says its working properly, but itunes does not put it anywhere in the devices. nor can i find it.

You need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView to copy photos from photos synced to the iPod to a computer.

  • HT1692 I have zero contacts in icloud and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" make sure Contacts and Calendars are not selected. There is no box for contacts and calendars, just mail accounts and notes

my problem started when I tried to install latest operating system for my iphone 4 screen said verifying update for about 20 minutes, I got a text that i needed to reply to, then the whole thing locked up and forced me to restore phone. Icloud doesn't have my contacts(I thought that's what it does), I've tried to sync with my computer many times, the only time it said anything about contacts was "Can't sync contacts because they're disabled on Iphone). When I sync, I get old text messages, old photos, old voice memos, but no contacts.

Good evening from the Phils :)
That didn't work. I turned off the icloud for contacts already, so even the 5 network numbers are not on my phone anymore, which is okay. I tried the sync / replace info contacts on phone from itunes, no contacts still. At least, there were no other stuff lost. I might try the restore from backup next time.. But still hiping for something which would not involve doing the restore or any tools. Thanks! :)

  • I don't want my music on my iPad as it takes up too much space, but I do want it on my iPhone and iPod touch.  How do it prevent it from going to iPad?

How do I get my music only on my IPhone and iPod touch, but keep it off my iPad.

If you're talking about stopping music purchased from the iTunes store automatically downloading to your iPad, go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and under Automatic Downloads and turn Music to Off.  If your talking about syncing with iTunes, just uncheck Sync Music on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings before syncing your iPad.

  • HT1689 I keep getting booted out of the itunes store on my brand new iPod touch.  What can I do to fix the problem?

I just got my son a new iPod touch and he is trying to use the itunes store but it keeps booting him out and back to the main screen with all of his apps on it.  I've tried it myself several times and it does it to me as well.  I have an iPhone and have never had this issue.  Does anyone know what the issue is?  He is not thinking this is the greatest Christmas present at this point.

    Hi Sam From ME,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would suggest restarting your iPhone and seeing if the issue continues, and if it does, try resetting your iPhone as well:
