ITunes plays library at half speed after import

After converting a performance recording tape from analog to digital and storing it in AIFF format, I imported the AIFF file to iTunes (sample rate reported as 96kHz, bit rate 2304 kbps, 24-bit stereo). The first time I played it in iTunes it was fine...but everything else in the iTunes library played at half-speed. Now (after a re-start) the imported file plays at double speed, and the library items play at normal speed.
How can I controll this?
I see the bit rate is much higher that library items, but don't know what is "normal range" or how to control. (I'm doing A/D in Tracktion 3, 24-bit, 96k sampling, and have many options for exporting the file as AIFF.) Any help?

Tap the now playing screen to show the additional podcast and audio book controls.  Tap the playback speed control until it shows white.  Each tap cycles from 2X speed, 1/2X speed to 1X normal speed.

  • ITunes library is empty, even after importing xml file

HI! I found the article and a couple of threads here about restoring the iTunes library and followed the steps but it hasn't worked.
This morning I tried to open iTunes and a box came up saying 'importing iTunes library', then the box went away, iTunes opened and everything was blank. I found the article about restoring the library which said to find the iTunes folder and drag the old files to the trash then import the xml file which I did but iTunes is still blank. I've tried importing the libraries in the 'previous iTunes Libraries' files but nothing is working. The files seem to be there, including the songs I've bought recently...but how to get them back into the library?
    I didn't upgrade to 8.0....

Hi - we actually found the problem - for some reason Realplayer was set as a default to play all media files. Went to Preferences, set iTunes as default and restarted and presto - the library was there... Hope that helps!!

  • Podcasts playing back at improper speed after recent iTunes upgrade

    iPod Touch G2
After upgrading iTunes this week (SHARED > Home Sharing is now in the left pane), podcasts now play back improperly. Different podcasts now play back at higher speeds.
Music (songs) plays back at normal speed.
What to do? Do I have do a Restore?
    Thanks.

it's easily done. that's why i always make sure to hit the power button and put it into sleep mode before putting mine in my pocket! (if you double click the home button while it's in sleep mode you can bring up music controls for quick track skips/pauses without having to slide to unlock)

  • Itunes music library player logs out after 5 minutes

    Running iTunes 11.1.1
When playing music from my music library, the application closes after 5 minutes if the computer is not touched, i.e. volume changed, tune skipped, etc. It's like it "logs off".  I don't have any sleep settings turned on.  This happens with battery or with power plugged in. Any suggestions as to what might be causing?

I've had the same issue since upgrading to latest iOS 5.1 on appletv and latest patches on mountain lion mine usually drops out after a minute

  • Processing speed after importing

    Hi,
I'm using Aperture 3.x on my iMac with i7 and 8GB RAM, Lexar USB card reader.
If I'm importing 30 RAW files to the Aperture Library on the internal HD of the iMac and let these process, it took about 1min 40s.
If I'm importing the same 30 RAW files to the Aperture Library as referenced files to an external iSCSI and let these process, it took about 1min 10s.
Looking at the processor load it between 100-200%, which is not much, since there are four cores in the i7.
Why is Aperture not more processor power to speed up the processing part after the import?
    Regards,
    JO

This is really a question for the Aperture engineers (at least for an accurate, competent answer).
In the cases that I am aware of (mostly regarding Photoshop), some tasks are not worth the processing 'overhead' to send to more than one or two processor cores.
This may be the case here, or it could be that the engineers are not coding for more cores until later versions (remember; Aperture can run on machines with only two cores - albeit more slowly).
Much of the processing after import of RAW files is rendering the image in RAM, so the processors aren't needed as much there as they are in processing the edits.
Again, this is just a best guess on my part as I am not a software engineer at Apple.

  • Why is my library 200+GB bigger after importing from Iphoto to Aperture

I recently got a new imac and decided to start using Aperture to manage my huge library. Previously I was using Iphoto 9 in Mountain Lion. My original Iphoto library is 687GB. I exported it to my external drive and works great from there.
Now I have the new Imac with Mavericks and just got Aperture 3.5.1. I have opened the iphoto library original in this new computer and it upgraded to the new version of Iphoto that I have here (9.5.1). Everything looks good.
From my understanding this is a managed library since I only exported the library file and everything is there.
After making sure the iphoto library file was working well I decided to go ahead and import to aperture. I decided to do this since I thought it would be a much better way to go with such a big library. The original iphoto library has around 9,200 photos and videos.
I created a new aperture library in another big external drive (Drobo) and imported the original to Aperture doing File - Import- Library and choosing the original located in an external drive.
After 24hrs of working finally I can see the new library appear in Aperture. One problem I have is that it is going extremely slow compared to the same library in Iphoto, but that is another topic.
In the new aperture library I see the exact same amount of pictures and projects appear however the library appears to be 930GB. According to what I have read in other discussions I have tried to find in Aperture using the keyword search to see how many of these photos/videos have a keyword of iphoto original (vs new masters that could have been created from edited versions of the originals. If I do "iphoto original" in my search nothing appears (although it keeps "processing" the search after a couple of hours (yes, that is how slow it is working now). Is that already something wrong? Is this keyword added automatically when you import from Iphoto?
I would really like to fix this since I still have two other libraries (37GB) that I would like to merge with this one. Is that crazy? Could I expect such a big library to work well? I am new to Aperture but so far I am not impressed at all.
The only file I have to work on is the one I have in the external drive since I already got rid of the old computer....
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Would appreaciate any help.
    Thank you!

Your library is big, but nothing out of the ordinary and well within Apertures capabilities.
It's hard to say definitively why the library has grown so, but ultimately it won't matter, once you have your library working well and you configure Aperture how you want it to operate, and you tidy up any unwated artefacts from the import, your library size will become exactly the size it needs to be.
There are a number of possible explanations for why things are going slow.
First, check how you have formatted your Drobo storage. The file system requirements for Aperture are described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3252
Next, having chosen to import your iPhoto Library, you have essentially created a new environmet with its own preferences controlling things like previes, faces, places and so on. These could explain both the size and any (temporary) performance issues.
With Aperture running, press SHIFT+CMD+0 (zero). This will show you the activity window so you can see if Aperture is performing any follow-up tasks relating to the import such as building previews, building thumbnails, detecting faces and son on.
If so, allow it time to finish. Once it's finished all the post import activity, it will settle down and begin to operate in a more optimised fashion.
Depending on the history of you old iPhoto library, there could be some clean-up work do in terms of edited copies of originals. Old versions of iTunes used distructive edits, meaning you got an edited copy of your original. Aperture doesn't work this way and you will need to decide if you want to keep those (for example stack them with tier orginals) or if you want to redo any of them using Apertures non-destrutive tools. Later versions of iPhoto used a similar non-destructive approach which will carry over, so it's just any very old edits you may have to make descisions for.

  • How do I keep my library settings the same after importing?

    Hi.
I have organized my whole itunes library down to the gritty upper/lowercase characters of the song names (due to my compulsive nature), and want to keep all my settings for later on when i backup my information as well as import it in the future.
When i delete my library (just the itunes library in the actual program, not the actual hard data in the music folder under users) and then import it again, it always restores back to the original setting that was before i edited all the imformation. Is there a way to make the actual hard data in my folders (deep within the harddrive) a replica of my library? (which includes, song names, artists, albumns, composers, etc.)
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer
    -Denny
P.S. I don't know whether or not to "re-create" the library as i found on the other support topic. I'm so afraid that it'll mess up my library again!

You can use one of these extensions to adjust the default font size and page zoom on web pages:

    * NoSquint - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2592

  • Destroyed Library in iPhoto 08 after import from 09

This is a bummer: I have iPhoto 09 on my new MacBook and 08 on my iMac at home. As I imported my pictures from "on the road" on my MacBook, I made the library available and opened it from my iMac (08). I then imported the photos from the 09 library.
The first time I did this, the pictures from 09 were in the 08 library, but no thumbnails were shown at all. So I deleted them and did the import again. And presto, they showed up fine.
The next time I started up iPhoto, it indicated that "this new version... rebuild Thumbnails". I cancelled out, as I needed to send a photo by email. At the next start, I went ahead and let it "rebuild" (whatever). After that, only the last three events - i.e. the ones I had imported from 09 - were visible.
I did a library rebuild. I purchased "iPhoto Library Manager" and did a rebuild via that. Nothing helped. The photos are still there, but the entire library seems to be completely shot.
Before I laboriously start re-importing all the pictures from the library - does anyone have any other ideas? Delete some file to have iPhoto rebuild it, etc? I would very much like to not have to redo everything - I've read other people's accounts of re-imports and they are a real pain - especially with 50+gigs of photos.
    Thank you!

    Hans
I was hoping for an error message with iPhoto Library Manager not iPhoto. It will usually cough something up if it has a problem.
My TM certainly does back up iPhoto. I'm not sure why yours wouldn't. Try post on the TM forum here

for more info and help with that.
Here's my back up strategy: pick and choose as you think fit:
My Library lives on my iMac.
It’s Backed up to two external hard disks every day. These disks are permanently attached to the iMac. These back ups run automatically. One is done by Time Machine, one is a bootable back up done by SuperDuper
It’s also backed up to a portable hard disk when ever new photos are added. This hard disk lives in my car. For security, this disk is password protected. For this job I use DejaVu because it makes a simple back up that is clear and can be tested easily without doing an full restore.
I have a second off-site back up at a relative’s house across town. That’s updated every 3 or 4 months.
My Photos are backed up online. Personally I use SmugMug but there are many options including flickr. However, check the terms of your account carefully. While most sites have free uploading, you will often find that these uploads are limited in terms of the file size, or the bandwidth you can use per month. For access that allows you to upload full size pics with no restrictions you will need to pay.
Every couple of months I test the back ups to make sure they are working correctly. It’s very easy to mis-configure a back up application, and the only way to protect against that is to do a restore.

  • ITunes PLAY/PAUSE Will Not Work After 10.5.4 Install

I have just installed Leopard 10.5.4 on my iMac G5 and iTunes player will not work. When I select a song, it will show in the player window, but, PLAY/PAUSE button will not function. I have checked iTunes Prefs and see nothing there that is not correct. I am able to navigate throughout iTunes and everything seems to work as before EXCEPT Play/Pause. (Actually, I don't know about PAUSE since I cannot get PLAY to work).

Does the disk also get ejected when you are running Leopard, or only when using it for booting?
Have you looked at it physically for scratches or that dirty film some DVDs had?

  • Lightroom library is almost 5gb after importing photos

I am new to Lightroom 5 and just imported about 4000 photographs.  I just added them to Lightroom since they were already on my hard drive.  I was amazed an confused why the Lightroom library file is almost 5 gb.  I have yet to do anything else except import.  I didn't think the library file would start to get large until I started processing and editing the files.  What can I do to not have my library file get so huge, or is this what I can expect with Lightroom?

Minimal means a thumbnail-sized preview, so anything larger than that would be recomputed at the time you first view the photo.  If you feel you'll be scrolling through all 4000 photos in Library Grid view at some point then compute Minimal previews.
I'd compute standard monitor-sized previews the first time you import a new folder of photos so you can do your tagging and flagging and rating and rejecting using the Fit or Fill zoom levels without waiting too long.  If you find yourself needing to zoom in to check focus on many of the images then maybe computer 1:1 previews for the newly imported folder, otherwise zooming into 1:1 will require a preview to be computed rather than looked up from the previews folder.
Once you go to Develop the previews aren't used except as a placeholder until the on-the-fly rendering has occurred as you zoom in or out or flip to the next image in Develop.
You'll figure out what you want to do after working on a few folders of images, the tradeoff between getting started on any of the photos in the folder vs waiting longer as you move to each one for the first time.

  • ITunes plays songs at intermittant speed

When I play a song, it slows down every quarter to half second in a very regular manner. It seems like my Mac is overworked and can't keep up, but I haven't had other performance issues - that I noticed.
The only thing I can think of is to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, and if that doesn't work to completely reinstall the OS on my Mac. Unless someone out there has a better idea.

Hey--this happened to me as well.
Seems to be a problem with either the bitrate or sample rate of your music file. I would use a program such as Audacity to re-encode it as an .aac file using a fairly common bitrate--128, 96, or 64 bps--and a fairly common sample rate, too--22, 44, or 48KHz. iTunes seems to wheeze when it gets presented with a wacky bps/KHz combination, like 11KHz@128bps.
    Hope that helps!

  • Clips play at half speed, why?

Why do some HD movie clips play in half speed if dropped on the timeline, but others from the same play just fine. This happens on G4 2x1GHz PowerMac with iMovie 6, the footage is 6 h of HD video from Canon HV20.

If clips have imported at slower than real time ..which can happen with slower Macs.. then sometimes those clips, and their audio, continue to play at half-speed after importing.
I've found that quitting iMovie and then restarting usually brings them back to normal speed, because that empties the program's "cache" memory, so it reads the clips afresh from the hard disc.
If that doesn't fix it, sometimes chopping off a frame from the start of the clip restores everything to nroaml ..oops! ..er, "normal"!
