ITunes Plus files are skipped

I've updated most of my iTunes purchases to iTunes plus and I saw the same long processing time that others saw. Mine all finished OK though. However some of them now will not play in iTunes and are just skipped over.
Strangely they will play in Quicktime and also in Get info->preview.
I also found that if I skipped the first second of the file (using iTunes->Get info->options) then the file played. Weird! Support let me download again and the latest copies were exactly the same. In the end they gave me a credit.
Anyone else having these problems? I had about 7 files out of maybe 30 or 40 gop bad. They were a variety of artists.

My guess is that in the rush to get all the millions of tracks re-encoded, the record companies delivered some bad ones. Probably not surprising given the massive number of tracks involved. Even prior to the big iTunes Plus conversion, a bad track (or several) would appear from time to time. I would hope that at least the majority of tracks with problems will be replaced over the next several weeks. I'd suggest waiting a few weeks before you attempt to re-purchase these particular tracks, should you wish to, to allow time for them to, we hope, be replaced with good copies.

  • Will iTunes Plus files work in FCP?

Does anyone know if new iTunes Plus files will work in Final Cut Pro now that digital rights management (DRM) has been removed?  Usually when I use AAC files in FCPX the files are mute.

Compressed audio files should be converted to AIFF 48k.

  • Files are skipped

    Hi,
in my scenario where we used to process files of 300 mb of files. The file is split  to 10 mb each using the scripts and then processed. Here like out of 30 files only 20 files are processed some of the files are skipped. No message is created in SXMB_MONI or there is no error in sender Communication Channel in RWB. all the files are archived in the archive directory. What may be the reason for not creating message.

    Hi,
    This is very strange!
Did you checked message monitoring in adapter engine (not in integration engine)
goto RWB->Message monitoring->adapter engine and check messages for "Holding", "Waiting" "All containing errors" and "to be delivered" you must find your file/message there.
If no message is created in SXMB_MONI then it is clear they are somewhere in Adapter engine.

My pc has crashed and lost a considerable amount of music and videos from iTunes the files are still in iTunes but are empty, will iTunes Match restore my content over the cloud?

Hm ... I guess I can't edit the post above. Anyway, I seem to have solved it by ...
    Quitting iTunes.
Going into Home / Music / iTunes, and renaming the file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library (corrupt).itl".
Entering Time Machine, and restoring the "iTunes Library.itl" file from a few days ago. I went back two days, which seemed far enough back to be "before" the problem but not far enough back to have trouble with recent acquisitions.
Re-opening iTunes - and everything seemed to be back in order.
So that's fine for now. We'll see if the solution is stable.
Very, very tentative assignment of blame: I believe iTunes crashed earlier today after I'd synced photos from my iPhone to iPhoto, and then iTunes crashed while iPhoto was closing (and taking its sweet time doing so). If that was indeed the case, that's at least the second time in the past couple of months that trying to sync iPhone photos to iPhoto has caused me significant problems. (The last time led to 80% of my iPhone suddenly being occupied by "Other", and a full restore of the darn thing.)

  • Confusion on iTunes Plus Files and Computer Authorization

I wonder if someone could help me alleviate some confusion surrounding iTunes plus files and computer authorizations.  I personally also have iTunes match on my account.
Reading online it appears that all iTunes Plus files do not not have DRM. I have this setup on my main iMac in my house. Now, I am copying music to my wife's laptop via home sharing. She is not using iTunes match because she has her own iTunes account. The home sharing is using her iTunes account. What is confusing me is that her laptop asking me to authorize the computer for playback of the audio files under my iTunes account. Why is this occuring if there is no DRM on the files?
I understand that I need to authorize machines for my iTunes match account, but these all should theoretically be DRM files that I am dragging and dropping via home sharing to her machine. Can anyone clarify what is going on in this situation?

Go to Store -> View Account. Log in to your account and click Purchase History. Then click Report a Problem. Then choose your upgrade purchase and explain your situation.

  • .xml file and iTunes library files are missing from the music folder

I recently made a second itunes library on my external hd, today when I open itunes and choose this library, the .xml file and itunes music file are invisible or translucent, therefore I can't open my library. But when I go to my music folder they are missing. Another odd thing is that all my music is still in the folder. Is there a way to re-open my library w/o re-importing all my music? Can I some how get a new itunes library file?
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

This is not an answer but I have the same problem. From time to time I clone my music drive to an external drive for back up. When I do, I burn a copy of the album artwork folder, iTunes Music folder, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Libraru.xml, and iTunes Library file to CDRW. This is so I can copy them into the music folder in my user home drive of my laptop then hook up the external and have access my library. Trouble is the .xml file and iTunes library files don't always show up when I go to the iTunes folder in my Music folder. There either is a blank where they should be or the names appear with no icon and when I click to select, that dissappers too. I thought I had a solve by exiting iTunes and letting it save everything. It seems to bring the .xml file back but not the itunes Library file. Any thoughts?

  • My iTunes Plus songs are no longer Plus in iTunes

I upgraded my iTunes songs to Plus a year or so ago. I created an MP3 from one just to make sure the DRM was gone and it was. I paid my money and all is good. Today I want to make some more MP3 files to play in my car. Low and behold all my previously upgraded songs now show as PROTECTED in iTunes (for Windows) and when I try to create the MP3s is says I can't make an MP3 from a Protected song period end of sentence. I checked my iTunes Store account and there is no quick link to upgrade any of my songs, I did find the order where I paid to upgrade them a year ago but on my PC the songs have reverted back to protected with no option to unprotect them. Again the iTunes store says I have upgraded all my songs to PLUS but iTunes on my PC says the same songs are now PROTECTED.
I have gone through several iTunes upgrades since converting my songs to PLUS. I have no idea when the PLUS songs reverted back to PROTECTED. Any insight appreciated. J

    OK.
The protected files are .m4a files and are encoded at 128kbs give or take.
I was able to find the MP3 files I created from them a year+ ago and they are 256kb. So I think I must have somehow deleted the .m4p files after creating the MP3s or does iTunes do that automatically.
My question now is when I upgraded my songs to PLUS did iTunes add a .m4p and keep the .m4a and when I created the MP3s did iTunes delete the .m4p files at that time?
At this point I am OK since I did find MP3 versions of all my PLUS songs and they are encoded at 256kbs.

  • Support for itunes plus file transfer / playback

The lastest Nokia Media Transfer application for the mac allows the transfer of itunes plus (.m4a extension) files, these are purchased itunes tracks without DRM. From what I understand apple have modified the tag data on these files which prevents them from being played on a Nokia phone, the Mac transfer application will process these files to modify this data and allow the tracks to be played.
My question is, will windows users get a similar application, to avoid the use of third party / manual operations, to allow these files to be transferred directly from itunes to my Nokia in the same manner as the mac application?
Its usually the mac being the un-supported OS but appears to be windows in this case !

yeah, Apple have their own way of working with aac/mp4 tags. They add extra bits that other players, unless programmed to read, won't understand, and at worst they won't play the file at all. There is another standard, the Nero standard, and they are similar but the Nero version is more universally recognised. There isn't an ID3v1/ID3v2 for MP4 files, yet. Although, like I said, since 90% of the world uses the Apple method of tagging, that is close enough to being a standard.
It's not that Nokia don't want you using iTunes, or like you said, they would force Mac users to use a Nokia music program. I think it is just that the whole "PC Suite" philosophy is geared around the Windows Media Player way of doing and tagging things. And since WMP doesn't recognise m4a files, neither does the Nokias. To get around this, instead of fixing their mp4 codecs to recognise Apple formatting, they made a transfer program that swaps the tags to a Nokia-understandable format. Which is just silly.
I've tried the Suite Music Manager, I have. Honest opinion - use Windows Media player instead. BUT I don't want to use that either, I have a huge collection ripped/catalogued in iTunes, and I shouldn't have to go about fiddling with tags and swapping software/workflows just so my phone can play it. I don't need to with MP3 so why should I need to with AAC/MP4? It would only take a few lines of code in the phone's AAC codec for it to read these tags, surely thats easier than making transfer programs and Music Managers?
The arguement "Nokia want you buying from the Nokia store rather than iTMS" doesn't hold water either, because I'm never buying from either, as long as I can still buy CDs from the shop.
Like I said, this whole thing may be fixed with the new N95-8 etc. If its not, and Nokia have no intention of fixing it, then my next phone will be an iPhone. I don't WANT an iPhone, but this whole thing is a deal-breaker for me.

  • ITunes Plus File Sizes

Hi, This might be a silly question but I have about 7,000 songs in my iTunes library. Most of them are from my own CDs. I have ripped them into iTunes using the regular AAC 128kbps and was wondering about reripping them using iTunes Plus at the higher bit rate of 256kbps. Trouble is the file sizes are much bigger so I wouldn't be able to get them all on my iPod (80GB) like I do now.
In other words If I reimport them I basically need more than twice the space they take up now. Is that a safe assumption? Would be very grateful for any input.
    Cheers,
    Shadowrider

Shadowrider, Yes. 128 kb/s encoding uses about 1 MB of space per minute of music. 256 kb/s encoding uses about 2 MB of space per minute.

  • "iTunes Musik Library.xml" and "iTunes Library" Files are gone...

On the Macbook of my brother these files are totally missing. Can´t even find them with Spotlight.
he has an "iTunes Music"-folder where his Albums are store in.
iTunes is still running but many Songs have lost their link.
He has an amount of songs with the same name "Titel 01, Titel 02..." so it´s very hard to repair the links.

You would need to download iTunes on comp and download purchases again (you don't have to pay again) and upload your CDs again IF you sync your iPad to your computer it will erase everything

  • How to find out where all my  itunes music files are stored on my computer?

I cannot locate the place where all my itunes files/playlists are located on my system. I need to copy this file into my flash drive in order to install into my new systems itunes folder. How do I locate this file?
    thanks again Karen

Normally your music from iTunes will be located in "My Music/iTunes" The file name you should be looking for then is called iTunes Music Library(.xml) and iTunes Library(.itl) The reason why the codes in brakets are there are because they are pascific codes which these files will be under if you were to have all the known system file types active. Once you've found them and transfered to your flash drive/external hard drive, open up iTunes and tell it via import through file or just copy the file onto the new system.
The alternitive is just to do this, open up iTunes, click on file, then go to export library, then just tell it where you want the file to be located instead.

  • My iTune music files are all shown as WMA files

When I open iTunes, I was reminded that my default audio player was not iTunes. I previously did not want to use iTunes as default because I like to choose manually when I play audio files. But there have been a lot problems with my iTunes, I decided to use iTunes as default player. I changed the system setting to use iTunes as the default. But when I open up iTunes, I got that message. I clicked OK to choose iTunes as default player. The following warning tells me that I do not have the priviledge to do that.
Most odd is that all my music files in iTunes Music folder are all shown as WMA files. Even the files I used iTunes to rip from my CD are shown as WMA. I suspect the Gates company somehow tweeked the XP not accepting iTunes as default player to frustrate less-a-computer-geeks like me.
There is one more problem. The iTunes Music File folder is all messed up. Songs of the same album get spread out in different subfolders. Many songs of the same album show up in iTunes as individual albums in the coverflow view. It seems that I can't download any album art from iTunes.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Well if you have songs from the same album that are not being listed together in itunes theres one or the other happening and it depends on if all the songs are from the same artist or different artist
    Same Artist
Lets say for example you have one album from....Madonna. So all tracks on the album are from the same artist. If these songs are not listing/grouped together something is wrong with the songs tags. The tags have to be EXACTLY the same on all tracks/songs of the album. You do this by rightclicking the song and hitting "Get Info"
    Different artist
This is known as a compliation album, usually soundtracks and dance mix albums where you have one album and each song is by a different artist. In this case you need to highlight all tracks that are apart of the album THEN rightclick and hit "Get Info". At the bottom select "Yes" under compilation and hit OK, this will group all songs under the same album

  • Ims: iTunes +, exactly 0 of 150 "itunes plus" songs are itunes plus!

(For me) Apple's iTunes Store has reached a new level of unusability.
Go to advanced search, check "Limit your search to iTunes Plus" and select genre=Classical. Of the results, exactly 0 or 30 albums and 0 of 150 tracks are iTunes Plus.
It took a couple of years for OS X to be usable, I guess it will be the same for iTunes Plus at the iTunes store.

    For instance, put
in Beethoven as the composer and you'll see a number
of Plus tracks of his works.
Yes, composer=Beethoven + limit to iTunes plus means that 19 out of 30 albums are not iTunes plus format.
My only point was that limit to iTunes plus doesn't work, and sometimes it fails for 30 out of 30 albums returned.
[Yes, I have given feedback to Apple. No, I don't think that they are listening]
    I'll stop ranting now.

  • Files Are Skipped Upon Initiation of Playback

A lot of my files were displaying inaccurate time lengths and inaccurate bit rates for VBR files in my iTunes library on my PC until I used a program called VBRFix to solve this part of a problem. However, after running all of these files through VBRFix, the vast majority of them are now just being skipped when being attempted to play on my iPod (but not in iTunes on my PC -- in iTunes everything is fine). When I attempt to play them on my iPod, it just skips through all of the tracks on all of the affected albums and goes back to the iPod's main menu and does not play anything. Is there a way to fix this without having to re-encode every file?

I seem to have fixed the problem on my own. I deleted everything on my iPod and then copied all of the files in my library from my PC back onto it. I think that after I updated/fixed all of my files, the Sync feature wasn't detecting that these files were actually modified and left the old improperly-working, outdated versions of them on there.

  • Music Files are skipping

    Hi,
I recently purchased the iPod classic (80G). Previously i had the iPod before.
It seems now that a lot of my music skips either back to the beggining or to the next track about 20-30 secs through the track. i Read on here that the way to combat this would be to convert all my files from AAC to MP3. I tried this and although it seems to have worked for many of my files, the files i have purchased on iTunes are 'Locked' stopping me from converting them. Is there a way around this? Also, is MP3 the best format to convert to? i'm not too woried about space but am about quality.
Also, the same thing seems to be happening to my movie files, some that i've purchased through iTunes and some that i haven't. What can i do about this?
    Please help!

If you can't play the individual songs on the iPod (not skipping past sequentially in a playlist), that means the songs ae corrupt and you have to delete them and resync them to your iPod.
