ITunes Plus songs redownloading in 128 kbps

Does anyone else have an issue where upgraded iTunes Plus songs/albums will randomly redownload in 128 kbps?  It has happened repeatedly for me over the course of the past several months where I'll be prompted for my iTunes Store login and then a random album, previously upgraded to iTunes Plus, will redownload in it's previous 128 kbps version.  Thoughts?

Yes, that has been reported here a few times.
The iCloud re-download capability is still in beta, so they are still working out the kinks.  However, in the meantime you should contact iTunes Customer Service and request the proper (256 kb/s) versions of your songs.

  • ITunes plus songs - Can I use it in more than one computer?

    Hi,
I"m planning to buy songs from iTunes. Now that the songs are iTunes plus, is it possible to copy the song file to a different PC and upload it to iTunes?
I've been used to buying songs from Amazon as it is MP3 format and wondering if iTunes plus offers the same flexibility as MP3 format when it comes to using it in multiple devices/machines.
Any thoughts on this is appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes you can copy the iTunes Plus songs to other machines.
I wouldn't quite say it has the "same flexibility," however. The Amazon songs, being MP3s, can be played in virtually any player, program, or phone, while the iTunes songs, being in AAC format, are more likely to run into incompatibilities. But if you are talking about other machines running iTunes, then it will not be a problem.

  • Upgraded to 7.6 and still can't download itunes plus songs

iTunes requests that I upgrade to a newer version in order to purchase iTunes Plus songs. I've downloaded the 7.6 version about 10 times and still get the message that I need to upgrade. What's up???

Did you actually install the new version or just download it?

  • Downloading iTunes Plus song upgrades problem - network connection msg

I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.1. I also purchased the iTunes plus song upgrades for most of my library. When I try to download these upgrades, I get the same message, which is something like "iTunes Network Connection Time Out". However, I have purchased new songs since and been able to download without issue. I have tried all of the following fixes with no avail.
    -Uninstall and Reinstall
    -disabled firewall completely
    -Flushed DNS Cache
None of the above have had any impact on the problem. If I cannot fix this, I will contest the charge for the upgrade with my bank since no one at Apple has been able to help.

I am having the exact same problem. I tried contacting Apple support - I explained my problem and provided the info from running Diagnostics. What I got in return was a cut-and-paste answer about being sure to log in and check my cables, as well as " please note that the iTunes Store cannot investigate every user's connection issue". So what's the point of sending an email in the first place? I'm very frustrated - my iTunes plus upgrade was over $400, and it was billed to my credit card weeks ago while I've been trying to get this solved. I am about to call my bank as well.

  • Artwork for iTunes Plus songs

Hi. My iTunes Plus songs don't come with album artwork and I can't seem to add artwork to them. When I open the artwork viewer on the bottom left-hand side of iTunes it says "Album Artwork Not Modifiable", and when I try adding artwork by going to Get Info it doesn't work either. Is this happening to anyone else? Maybe Apple didn't include the artwork feature in their iTunes Plus songs or something.
    -Eric

yes, I know that all iTunes songs are supposed to come with artwork (in fact, all my iTunes purchases that are not iTunes plus have it), but my iTunes plus ones don't for some reason. In fact, as I said above, I can't even add artwork to them because the Get Info tab says that "Album Artwork Not Modifiable". I can modify any other info for the songs (like the comments field, genre, album, grouping, etc) and I do have read/write permissions for the song files and the folders they are in. Also, all my iTunes plus purchases are upgrades (I had the 128kbps DRM versions before), and before I upgraded, the artwork was modifiable.
One more thing: I just noticed that I can't add lyrics either. I can put them into the lyrics field, but they don't stay there (I put them in, press OK, then Get Info again later and they're not there).
These two problems (can't add artwork and can't add lyrics) happen with all my iTunes plus songs.
    My iTunes plus purchases are:
Beastie Boys - Ch-Check It Out
Beastie Boys - So What'cha Want
    Coldplay - Speed of Sound
    Coldplay - The Scientist
Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
The Rolling Stones - Waiting On a Friend
The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up
The Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden
The Rolling Stones - Miss You
The Northern Pikes - She Ain't Pretty
Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole - Unforgettable
    Heart - What About Love
The Beach Boys - Surfin' USA
The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice
    The Beach Boys - Kokomo

  • Purchased iTunes Plus songs, 128 DRM files were delivered instead

I recently pre-ordered the new Moby album "Last Night". The preorder was for the iTunes plus version. However, when the album was released, and my iTunes downloaded the song files, I received 128K DRM versions of the songs as opposed to the 256K versions.
Has anybody else had this problem? iTunes support will not answer my emails.

Seeing as the album just came out today, I don't see how you can be saying support will not answer your emails. You need to give them a chance to sort out, and hopefully help you out. At least 24 hours.

  • How do i purchase iTunes Plus songs?

I have no interest in upgrading previous songs to iTunes+ but any new songs i purchase I would like to purchase at the higher 256 kbps. I don't see anything about iTunes plus anywhere in iTunes

Just to set expectations properly, the majority of tracks in the iTunes Store are in iTunes Plus format now, but you may still find some in the old, copy-protected format. iTunes Plus tracks will have a "+" icon next to the price. Apple has said that they expect to have the rest in iTunes Plus format this month, though it will depend on the record companies.

  • My iTunes Plus songs are no longer Plus in iTunes

I upgraded my iTunes songs to Plus a year or so ago. I created an MP3 from one just to make sure the DRM was gone and it was. I paid my money and all is good. Today I want to make some more MP3 files to play in my car. Low and behold all my previously upgraded songs now show as PROTECTED in iTunes (for Windows) and when I try to create the MP3s is says I can't make an MP3 from a Protected song period end of sentence. I checked my iTunes Store account and there is no quick link to upgrade any of my songs, I did find the order where I paid to upgrade them a year ago but on my PC the songs have reverted back to protected with no option to unprotect them. Again the iTunes store says I have upgraded all my songs to PLUS but iTunes on my PC says the same songs are now PROTECTED.
I have gone through several iTunes upgrades since converting my songs to PLUS. I have no idea when the PLUS songs reverted back to PROTECTED. Any insight appreciated. J

    OK.
The protected files are .m4a files and are encoded at 128kbs give or take.
I was able to find the MP3 files I created from them a year+ ago and they are 256kb. So I think I must have somehow deleted the .m4p files after creating the MP3s or does iTunes do that automatically.
My question now is when I upgraded my songs to PLUS did iTunes add a .m4p and keep the .m4a and when I created the MP3s did iTunes delete the .m4p files at that time?
At this point I am OK since I did find MP3 versions of all my PLUS songs and they are encoded at 256kbs.

  • I upgraded some albums to iTunes Plus - songs duplicated/overwritten

I upgraded a couple albums to iTunes Plus quality, specifically Elton John's "Live in Australia" and his debut album "Elton John". Both contain the tracks "Your Song" and "The King Must Die". When I downloaded the iTunes Plus version of the album "Live in Australia", the live version of the track "Your Song" replaced the studio version on "Elton John", and the live version of "The King Must Die" was downloaded into the "Elton John" album instead of the studio version of the same name. How is this possible? Though they share the same track name, they're from different albums.

Thanks. I should have thought of that. The "overwritten" tracks were in fact still in the trash. Crisis diverted, as I like to say.

  • ITunes Plus songs

I have an ex who bought a lot of songs through iTunes on my account. I didn't pay for all of them so I don't want to just unverify her computer because she did pay for some of them. I want to know if there's a way to make the songs iTunes Plus so she doesn't have to worry about verification. Can someone please help? She asked for my account name and password for her new computer but I'm not going to tell her. How can she have her songs without my verification?

Well one solution is to first remove all credit card info from the account so nothing can be purchased on it. Next change the password to something to give to her. Then give her the account info, tell her she has one-day, 48 hours, whatever you are comfortable with to get her songs into a playlist and burn them out to an audio CD. After a day, 48-hours, etc. change the password back to what you used before.
Of course, she could go in and change the password again during that short period of time. So you might instead not give her a time limit and simply tell he she needs to burn them to audio CDs ASAP. Then change the password back after a reasonable time frame. If she didn't burn them, well too bad for her.

  • ITunes plus songs  listed where ?

I've upgraded songs to the drm free iTunes plus kind but I no longer remember which they are.
How do I find them without going through my whole collection?
Where would they be listed ?

Hi Pamela if you are still there.
You don't need to worry about bit rates. iTunes plus music has a "Kind": Purchased AAC audio file - Reagular iTunes tracks have a "Kind": Protected AAC audio file. AAC tracks imported from CD have a "Kind": AAC audio file.
So the one rule Kind is Purchased AAC audio file gets the iTunes plus music.

  • Upgrade Charge for iTunes Plus Songs

Doesn't anyone feel Apple is doing a disservice to its loyal customers for charging another $.30 for upgrading songs to iTunes Plus when others can get the same songs in the higher quality for the price we originally paid? It seems unfair but I'm not sure how others feel and how we can provide our collective feedback to Apple.

itunes menu > help > Provide itunes feedback
I don't really care. The original songs sounded fine to me for several years.
This upgrade is just marketing to make you want it.
Although I do think getting rid of the DRM is the way to go, it really doesn't matter since I've burned the older songs to an audio CD and can use them how I want.

  • Ims: iTunes +, exactly 0 of 150 "itunes plus" songs are itunes plus!

(For me) Apple's iTunes Store has reached a new level of unusability.
Go to advanced search, check "Limit your search to iTunes Plus" and select genre=Classical. Of the results, exactly 0 or 30 albums and 0 of 150 tracks are iTunes Plus.
It took a couple of years for OS X to be usable, I guess it will be the same for iTunes Plus at the iTunes store.

    For instance, put
in Beethoven as the composer and you'll see a number
of Plus tracks of his works.
Yes, composer=Beethoven + limit to iTunes plus means that 19 out of 30 albums are not iTunes plus format.
My only point was that limit to iTunes plus doesn't work, and sometimes it fails for 30 out of 30 albums returned.
[Yes, I have given feedback to Apple. No, I don't think that they are listening]
    I'll stop ranting now.

  • Xbox 360 will not play iTunes Plus songs!

I recently upgraded several iTunes albums to iTunes Plus versions so I could play these files on my Xbox 360, but the Xbox 360 will not play these files! If I convert the purchased files to 'AAC Audio' from within iTunes then the resultant files will play fine on the Xbox, but I am concerned this extra recoding step will affect the sound quality of the music. Why don't the 'Purchaed AAC' files work in the first place? They are supposed to be DRM free.

I have both 2mb and a 4mb 'media update' installed if that's what you mean. I also tried re-downloading one of them - I could only find one on marketplace.
