ITunes Plus - why do we have to upgrade everything?

I see iTunes is giving us no choice about which tracks/albums that we upgrade -- it's all or nothing.
The "plus" tracks definitely sound better, but to upgrade my entire purchased library would cost me $600 in upgrade fees (assuming all of my 1,400+ purchased tracks are going to be ultimately available in this format) -- it's just too much.
I WOULD like to be able to upgrade certain albums and songs. But at this point, I have no choice about which ones.
So, it seems to me that iTunes' BEST customers are being penalized -- if you've bought only a few tracks from iTunes, then upgrading your entire library won't cost that much and you can just do it and move on. But if you've bought a LOT of music from iTunes in the past -- you have to shell out hundreds of dollars to upgrade EVERYTHING, even though you may want to only upgrade some of your favorite albums and tracks.
The only way around this seems to be re-purchasing individual albums in the plus format ... which is much more expensive that the upgrades, but at least you can pick and choose.
Something's wrong here, I think. I didn't expect iTunes to kick me in the butt like this.

Well, how do we know that? I mean, about EMI requesting it? Why would they care? If you upgrade 10 songs, you have to pay for ten songs. But if you decide NOT to upgrade those 10 songs because Apple/EMI/whoever insists you have to upgrade 100 ... then they've just lost a sale, right?
I mean, have you ever been in a store buying a shirt and had the saleperson say, "sorry, I can't let you buy that shirt unless you also buy these jeans! And these shoes! And, dang it, the entire fall line!! Otherwise you can just walk right out cause we don't need your business!"
I just think it's a odd way to treat loyal customers.

It downloads the compressed image, then it needs to uncompress it. The compressed image is large uncompressed it is even larger.
You need much less space if you use iTunes on your personal computer to do the install.

Songs available to purchase as iTunes plus but will not show for upgrade

I have an album I purchased in December, it is listed as available now as iTunes Plus. However when i use the upgrade option it tells me that I have nothing available for upgrade.
Any ideas?

This is a common problem to which no solution has yet appeared. The iTunes Store said in a reply to me some days ago that the problem was being worked on, but things remain the same. Perhaps the ability to select updates individually took higher priority (as it should) and now that's done the "missing upgrade" issue will be attended to.

Are you talking about iTunes Match? If so, you don't have to download entire albums, all you have to do is play the songs you want to hear.
If you're asking why you have to download the music at all rather than just playing it from iCloud, the music has to be stored locally on your device, either in permanent or cache memory, in order for your device to play it.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

Why do I have to click everything twice ?

When is Firefox going to fix this?
In every version after 3.6, I have had to click twice or "reload" the page. If I close the page and click again or reload the page, it immediately comes up.
It is not because of problems in my computer. I went into safe mode and disabled all add-ons and got the same result. It happens on 80-90% of the websites. There are a few sites that consistently load immediately but most I have to reload the page or wait for the page to load which can easily take 30 seconds to a minute.
I have a fast download of 28 and upload of 6. I have a clean computer, plenty of ram memory and have limited programs allowed to activate on start up. I usually have very few tabs open at a time. I've cleared cache and done all the usual things always recommended to do.
This is very frustrating and it has to have something to do with bugs in changes of versions since 3.6. That version worked perfectly. These latest versions up to the most recent update have been consistently more and more problems.

I'm with you RJ343, as an ex-software developer from the late 90's, I am appalled at the way Firefox has gone.... i recently upgraded to Windows 7 and Firefox 17 and it is disgusting the number of things that do not work,... and I have to LAUGH MY F**KING HEAD off when I hear geeks and nerds who are barely out of their cyber-nappies moan at me because I prefer 3.6 and they can't understand why i don't love the latest version... SIMPLES > because they are so full of bugs and workarounds and stupid add-ons I have to install just to go "back" to 3.6 and its glorious feature set that has since been ripped apart and hacked to smithereens and replaced with dodgy , sh*te alternatives that I'm supposed to adore ? It happens everywhere, it's as though the focus is not set properly, and the 1st click sets that, and then I have to click again to execute. Certainly I have just registered in order to write this post, I deem it that important, and now that I am , I will have to start replying and posting the myriad of other failures by FF development team in their latest versions,.... what I find the most insulting as I mentioned, is this indoctrination that I HAVE to use the latest versions over the old, tried & tested products like 3.6, because FF will withdraw support or add-ons stop working for the old versions. I wouldn't mind, if the new versions weren't such a croc of shoite and actually worked.

I add an object with a variable towers (array containing
1,2,3) to the main stage. So I tried this (where stage is a

Which to me made a lot of sense. And it came up with the 1116
error.
According to AS3, to reach that variable from within another

As a rule, you don't have to, although it is occasionally
necessary.

How did you add this object? It sounds like this is a custom
class
named Me, so how are you instantiating this object? Are you
adding it to
the stage's display list? (Does it need to be in a display
list?)

I just got a warning that the Itunes that I just downloaded (10.6) could impare or destablize my system- I have had Itunes on my computer before but when I plugged in my Ipod it told me I needed to uninstall Itunes and reinstall itunes all together. So, like so many others, I have had the misfortunne to upgrade to iTunes latest version, on my main PC. Like so many others, it's been a disaster. Login to the store impossible, amongst other things.
But, on my laptop, I run the older version, 10.1.0.56, and it works quite nicely, thanks.
But, I went to buy stuff on the store today - because the login works perfectly with the old version - and it won't let me buy books, or get samples of them - it keeps telling me I 'must' upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, first ?

I didn't think the update process was difficult at all... although I can understand the frustrations of a slow internet connection (I recently installed SP 2 on my parents' computer, with a dial-up connection). I do know, that with the release of iTunes 7, they have more or less overhauled the iTunes Store (doubling the resolution of their video files, for one thing) and therefore it no longer works in earlier versions of iTunes.

Why do I have to upgrade?

When I click on the iPhoto icon in my dock, I get the following message:
I don't want to lose the pics I have. I am running OS X 10.9.1. iPhoto is 9.5.1.

Everyone gets this message and it's entirely normal and nothing to worry about.
1. The message isn't preventing you from getting to your pictures. Not completing the update is.
2. I'm not sure why you think that you will lose pictures. There is nothing in that message that says that or even anything like it.
3. If you click quit what would you expect to happen?
4. You can't back up your Library with iPhoto open.
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
I will comment that I'm amazed that you don't have a back up already.
Then let the app upgrade the Library. You won't lose anything and it'll take a couple of moments - and you (now) have a back up in case you're one of the 0.0001% of folks who have a problem.

I am using iTunes Match, and wish to restore from the cloud to itunes. Why do I have to select one at a time to download?

I am using iTunes Match, and had to restore all of my music (.3000 songs). Problem is, I don't see where can restore them all at once. I can do it for all purchased items from the Cloud, but not for songs/content that I added on my own from CD's. I have had to click the cloud icon for each song....really, my hand is about to cramp. Is there a restore all function for non-purchased songs? If not, it needs to be added to the Match software.

Instead of steaming you can just download directly from the cloud. Don't you see the cloud icon with a downward arrow? You may have already downloaded then then. Turn off iTM and see if the songs are still present.
