Itunes Problems After Switching PCs

Bought a new PC. Backed up song library from Itunes onto external drive (different folder name if that's important). Copied folder from ext drive onto C: of new PC. Songs appear to be in Itunes however , for most songs, when I click I get the message:
The song xxx could not be found because the original file could not be found.
I answer "yes" to "would you like to search for it." I can find the song and it pulls it into Itunes where I can click on it and it plays.
Next time I sync, same thing happens.
I'm sure it has something to do with the transfer. I'm just not smart enough to know what's going on.
If the file path that is in preferences is where I copied the songs to what else has to happen?

No, I was talking about the drive letter for the external drive.
I guess I don't understand what order you did things in.
I thought you had an old PC, and moved your iTunes library to the external hard drive using thes steps:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305451
Then you plugged your ex HD into the new PC and it had a different drive letter.

  • Virtual console problem after switching runlevels

After switching into runlevel 5, the cursor on all virtual consoles (1-5) is stuck at the top left of the screen, and screen scrolling is disabled.
If I boot with runlevel 3, everything works fine, until I manually change into runlevel 5.
I'm not sure if this is related to the latest Xorg upgrade, but things used to work well until not long ago.

  • Adobe Bridge won't open & iTunes problems after crash

    Hello,
I was using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop (CS3 versions) earlier and was having PS perform a very memory-intensive task. I was also running iTunes and Firefox at the time. PS crashed; when I tried to reopen it, it got stuck on the initialization window. I couldn't force quit, so I tried to restart my computer - but whatever was preventing PS from either booting or closing seemed also to be preventing my mac from shutting down. So I did a forced shut-down by holding down the power button.
When I restarted, PS would launch, but Bridge wouldn't - the icon would bounce in my doc for a bit, then stop; on each subsequent try, it would bounce a little less, but still not launch (same goes for trying to open it from the Applications folder.) Also, when I launched iTunes it told me my library was "damaged", and had be go through set-up steps again as if I had never used the software.
I'm not exactly sure what to do here to get Bridge working correctly. I'm not sure if this question is better suited for an Adobe forum, but I thought I'd start here. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks.
    J

    Chris,
Try one of these things or both:
    * open Bridge from within Photoshop; or
    * make a new Mac account and log in as a different user. Bridge will likely start. After that, it will probably work in your regular account.
However, there is no "firmware" update involved here. Firmware is applied to machines only, via an Apple patch. Many machines don't ever get a firmware uppdate ever, only a few Mac models do.
    >Problem is though I need the most current version to be able to read the CR2 files
Also, the Bridge updater does NOT touch the ACR plug-in, nor does it update said camera raw plug-in either. You can manually download the ACR 4.3.1 plug-in and install it yourself as per the very detailed instructions on the ACR download page. Follow those
    b to the letter.

  • Differnt problems after switching to Apple ID

After being forced to switch my AOL account to an Apple account, I lost the remaining on my gift card. Now, when I enter the code, iTunes tells me that card has already been redeemed. But I had over $10 left on it!!
And when I go into my account details, it lists the last song I purchased was back in March 2008, when I had purchased some last week under the new Apple ID.
I'm waiting for iTunes support to write me back. If anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, I'm listening.

I also had an Apple ID prior to this switch but have forgotten the user and password. It seems like when I created a new ID from AOL screen name, it recognized my email (because I had to use a valid email address to create this new Apple ID)and merged the AOL name with my current account. But it lost all of the AOL purchasing and gift card data.
When I signed in to post these topics, I entered my new Apple ID but found my old user name and all my old Apple discussions questions still intact.

  • Sync problems after switch from Windows to Mac; cannot read/write error msg

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.
I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. To move my iTunes files (50GB) I simply dragged and dropped them from my external HD to my new computer. I know that Apple does not recommend this process, but when I needed to move my library between drivers earlier this year, it was the only way I could do it without getting an error message that killed the process.
Moving the files seemed to be a success. Everything appeared in iTunes, I was able to play the music, etc.
I then tried synching my iPod (Classic 160 GB – I think 5th gen, it’s about 3 years old) on the new computer. I got some message that said you can only have one iPod per account and that I would have to wipe the iPod before syncing. I let it do that.
    Here's where problems began:
With a few gigs to go in the sync I got a message that says something to the effect that iTunes cannot read or write to the iPod. Even though must of the library had been transferred to the iPod, before disconnecting the iPod iTunes wiped all but a few hundred megs worth of music from it. I've tried restoring the iPod a few times but that has had no effect. The first time I tried to sync the iPod it was formatted for Windows. I have reformatted it for Mac.
Also noteworthy is that the first 3/4ths of my library copies very quickly -- 1GB a minute -- but then it eventually slows down to where 100 MB takes 10 minutes. It copies the files in a different order every time, so it doesn't look like it's getting hung up on the same files every time.
In case I had a corrupted file, I deleted all the files added to the library since my last successful sync.
    Suggestions?
Should I just go to the nearest Apple store and beg for mercy?

    Hi!
same problem here.I can use around 30G of my iPod Classic 160G.If i try to upload more than that it will take very long time and finally freezes.
Have no idea what to do..

  • ITunes problems after upgrading - progress bar "updating library"

after upgrading iTunes to the latest version I open iTunes and a progress bar appears "updating library". After a few seconds it stucks and I do not get a response at all. I have to cancel the program in the Windows Task Manager. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers

You might try rebooting your computer. Select Shutdown and let the computer turn off. Then start it up again and see if the problem is corrected.

  • Can't play videos from iTunes store after switching machines

Symptom: my iTunes Library lives on an external drive. Recently I needed to send my primary MacBook Pro in for repair, so I authorized my backup machine successfully and used it in the interim. Upon the return of my primary machine, I did a fresh OS X install from the DVD (using the option to copy over my home directory from the backup machine in target disk mode), then used Software Update to install iTunes 7.2. The problem is that TV shows purchased from the Apple Store will no longer play on the primary machine, though they will on the backup. Double-clicking on their titles simply does nothing. In addition, TV shows cannot be added to the library after having been removed, and trying to open them in QuickTime Player causes that program to quit silently.
Music, including purchased music, plays fine. The file paths shown in iTunes for the video files are correct, and permissions look right as far as I can tell. iTunes claims that it has been authorized successfully, though I have tried deauthorizing and reauthorizing it a few times just to be safe. I can't think of what else I could be missing. Any ideas?

    Update your Quicktime to v7.1.6.

  • ITunes problems after trying to install Windows XP service pack 2

Hey guys, I've been having trouble with my iTunes among other programs recently, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to help. Basically, my iTunes has been acting strangely ever since I tried upgrading my Windows XP system with Service Pack 2. When it ran through installation, it got all the way through. However, once I rebooted the computer, it told me it was unable to complete due to an unstable system. So it told me to uninstall the software, and I removed it from my program list.
Unfortunately, once I complete removed it from my hard drive, several programs on my machine started to malfunction. Now, whenever I try to play iTunes, it just stops working all of a sudden along with the rest of the sound software on this computer.
The big problem is, I forgot to back up my system before I did all this, so now I'm worried that I'm stuck with this dysfunctional hybrid of a computer system. So now, I've tried reinstalling the old Service Pack 1 onto the computer, but it always seems to cancel in mid-installation.
I know this is probably of a topic that should be posted, on an XP forum, but I was hoping that maybe someone on here might be able to give me some advice on how to solve this problem. If not for my computer, than perhaps at least for my iTunes trouble.
Thanks to all who might be able to help.

The reason I would think your iTunes stopped working is because your system is no longer compatible as iTunes requires Windows XP SP 2 in order to work properly.
If you want to back up your iTunes content then I would suggest opening My Documents>My Music and choose the whole iTunes folder and move it to an external drive. That is normally where all your content is saved, unless you didn't have 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' selected in iTunes then you might want to use the whole My Music folder as your backup.

  • [Solved] Several problems after switch to systemd

After many issues with today's update (like broken locale, broken suspend2ram, broken shutdown/restart, broken autologin, broken CPU clocking, broken fan control and broken wicd) I'm stuck with three of them, the most important being wicd.
Autologin is working now and after login I have to enter a password for wicd (which was not the case before the update). After entering the password I get the dbus connection error: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/wi … or_message If I kill wicd (which is runnig directly after boot, but not running properly), starting and stopping and starting again with systemctl works fine. But the autostart mostly fails for some reason (in rare cases it works though). I'm quite new to systemd and don't even know hot to open the new journal in a proper editor to search for errors efficiently.
The second thing is that the locale is being reset to C or POSIX I suppose, at least it's not German as it should be and also is set in /etc/locale.conf.
The third thing is that the Thinkpad fan control fails to start, too. I created a .conf file to load the thinkpad_acpi module which seems to work. If I start /usr/sbin/tpfand manually, the fan control works. But here also the autostart fails.
Sorry for the confused description containing about nothing on error or debug information, but I don't really know where to start digging and get useful information about systemd.
    Thanks for any hint,
    PhotonX

  • Itunes problems after last Windows update was installed.

After an update to Windows XP a couple days ago, everytime I turn on iTunes, thing go bad. A blank internet explorer window came up several times and essentially froze, and any attempt to close it met with a window that the program wasn't responding. I was unable to close it, and was unable to use Ctr-Alt-Del, and was unable to shut down the computer. The only solution was to do an emergency shutdown with the power button, and then eventually everything came back although very slowly. The same thing happened again if iTunes was turned on.
It seems like itunes and IE are now incompatible so I suspect that that update added some security measure which interferes with the itunes and its internet connection.
Anyone have a simple solution? I could try a restore but I may not be able to get back far enough?

I uninstalled KB 2446708 (Security Update for .NET Framework 4) ... took forever to uninstall, like 20 minutes.... And now Firefox starts up normally!
By the way, my Firefox is version 3.6.17, running on Windows Vista 64bit. I try to avoid all the new updates like IE9. Perhaps I should try avoiding .NET Framework 4 as well.

  • Cannot add new songs in iTunes 9 after switching to media organization

Hey all, I'm using iTunes 9 and can't seem to add any new mp3s to my library. I've always had iTunes manage my library files and it keeps the mp3s in the default location (~/iTunes/iTunes Music). When I try to add mp3s, I see the error:
'Attempting to copy to the disk "" failed. The required folder cannot be found.'
I can still listen to all of my other music and my iTunes library folder is still intact. I just can't seem to get rid of this problem... I checked the permissions on all the folders and it's all kosher. I even tried rebuilding my iTunes library but still no dice.
The only change I made recently was to use the 'Upgrade to iTunes media organization' feature so that I could use the 'automatically add to itunes' folder. Does anybody have any guesses why that might trigger the error I'm getting?
    Thanks!
    David

After much fiddling, I discovered that this was caused by an alias inside my iTunes Music folder called “Music,” which simply linked back to the iTunes Music folder itself. This must have been causing iTunes to not be able to find the correct place to put its files. Simply removing this alias fixed the problem for me.

  • ITunes problems after updates

    Hi everyone,
I have recently installed the newer versions of iTunes and i discovered that my music 'jumps' or become jerky whenever I minimise the iTunes player. This also happens when I am transferring/receiving files over the internet. Does anyone here have this problem? Any solutions? I currently still have 5.5 GB of memory available and am running on 512 ram. Thanks.

When I first got iTunes I had a Problem with it and deleted it then i installed it and uninstalled several times before getting it to work againand when i opened it up my music was all still there so in my experience uninstal doesnt do get rid of music

  • FCP problems after switching from my G5 to a MacPro

I used the Migration Assistant to switch from my old computer to my new one and am now experiencing two annoying things with my FCP project:
    1. When I try to Render I get a "File Access Denied" message.
    2. When I make changes on my timeline I get a "Preparing video for display" message and the computer takes several seconds to make the changes. This didn't happen on my older G5
    Thanks.

Migration Assistant doesn't work for professional applications. You will have to uninstall FCS and reinstall. Use this to uninstall.

  • Problem after switch to IMac

I just switched from a G5 to a new Intel iMac. When I access Time Machine I can see the bars on the right hand side, but they have no dates associated with them, and I am unable to restore anything. Is this a function of switching machine, and is there a way to access the old information?
    Thanks

    G5 is PPC and APS
    Intel is Intel and GUID
I don't think you can transfer TM from one type of machine to the other.

    Hi BOSSKILLER

Well, leave the 80GB only and install XP over it.
Then connect other two HDD's and enable RAID for them.
Unfortunately this didn't help. As soon as I installed the Windows nVidia RAID SW it prompted med that it had registered  the 80 GB disk as a new disk that wasn't a member of any RAID. This happened everytime Windows XP was started.
The trick was to add the 80 GB disk as a Spanned disk using the nVidia RAID BIOS setup utility. Install Windows XP (again) and the Windows nVidia RAID SW and setup RAID 1 on the other two sata disk.
I don't think this is a great setup but it works. I hope that MSI will fix this issue in a later BIOS upgrade. It would be nice if the enabled/disabled for sata RAID setting actually worked.
