ITunes Problems? 'Downgrade' To Older Versions HERE

Old Apps keeps a database of older versions of iTunes. Download the original .dmg for Mac here:

Yes, today I DID install it. After reading all the differing opinions on what causes problems with upgrades, i am convinved upgrading isn't problematic, but upgrading DOES reveal troublesome pre-existing conditions that were lurking in a user's computer. Upgrades are pretty benign, but when you tinker with your computer past the "plain vanilla" stage, you invite problems.
That said, I quit all programs, verified/repaired permissions, detached all peripherals except keyboard/mouse, restarted just to be sure, then launched the .dmg intaller for iTunes 7.2, and two minutes later, installation is complete. Verified/repaired permissions, re-attached all peripherals (I even removed the iTunes icon from the dock and replaced it with a new one!). All is fine, my shuffle is recognized, all my songs and playlists are there, everything is EXACTLY as it was before, no hiccups, burps, or problems to speak of. And I plan on keeping it that way. Thanks for many good posts everyone, they helped me in my understanding.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

  • Problems reverting to older version of Itunes

    Hello,
Ever since I updated Itunes to 10.2.2 it has had loads of problems. The most obvious is when i try to scroll through my library the information from the genius bar gets all jumbled up with it. I hoped to  fix this problem by using time machine to revert to the older version. However when I attempt to do this I get an error saying I dont have sufficient privileges for Itunes. I am the only account on this machine so I should have privileges for everything. Does any one know a solution to this?

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2349."
    What does this mean
... There's been a bunch of unusual error message codes in the 2300-range reported here lately. According to Microsoft, that's a "Copy resumed with different info":
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372835(VS.85).aspx
... and a search through some information on other packages that might get it during installs suggests the installers might indeed be damaged.
I'd first investigate the possibilities that Katrina is describing and asking you about.

  • How do I use a newer iTunes library on an older version of iTunes?

I have an iTunes Library on my MacBook Pro running iTunes 11.1..5.  I want to copy the library to my older G5 PowerPC with an older version of iTunes which has recently had a new drive installed (because of the old drive failing) and new Leopard System (the limit for the G5).
It seems I cannot just copy it to the G5 because I get a message like "cannot open iTunes Library because it is a newer version" or somethihng like that.  It suggests updating iTunes but iTunes is upgraded to the max on the G5..
How can I convert my iTunes Library to run on the older version of iTunes?  There are several suggestions available online, but none of them seem to fix the problem.
Anyone know how to fix this?  My iTunes Library is extensive and I cannot even entertain the thought of reloading all that music and video!

In the iTunes folder on the G5...
    Delete the file iTunes library.itl.
Move the iTunes library.xml (or iTunes Music library.xml) to the desktop.
    Start iTunes.
iTunes menu File > Library > Import playlist and select the iTunes library.xml you moved to the desktop.
You can then delete the file on the desktop.

  • Trying to re-install itunes error message "the older version of Apple software update cannot be removed" ?

Unable to re-install itunes as error message appears "The Older Version Of Apple Software Update Cannot Be Removed"
Been to control panel and found apple software update but still unable to remove   Help!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I am trying to install the updated iTunes and it says "Older version of iTunes cannot be removed". Help!

I have tried seraching for the older version files and can't find anything on my computer.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Says I can't download itunes because of a older version that cannot be removed

I cannot load itunes because I have a older verson that can't be removed. I have no idea where to find it

I cannot load itunes because I have a older verson that can't be removed.
Doublechecking. Is it saying it can't remove the older version of iTunes, or some other program? If it's a different program, what is the name of the program? (Several different programs can be mentioned in this context: itunes, bonjour, Apple Software Update, etc.)

  • Can I get rid the newest version of iTunes and use an older version?

I've had nothing but trouble with the newest version of iTunes. I can't listen or watch any music or videos on my laptop, iTues often freezes up, movies are taking 8+ hours to download ?!
Is there a way to get rid of the new version and use the older one? If so, how?
I'm too impatient to trouble shoot EVERY single problem I'm having with this version....

    hi micromarty!
I now get and error that says the memory cannot be read.
that error message sounds familiar, but i'd just like to make sure. could you post back with the full text of that error message, including the numerical codes?

  • How can I use a newer itunes library with an older version of itunes on a different computer?

Hi there. We are running iTunes 10 on our (1.5-year-old) iMacs with the entire music library there.
I also have an old iMac G4 (for those of you who remember what that is :-) sitting in the living room that we use for watching DVDs and listening to music. The G4 is running iTunes 9, as it obviously is stuck with OX Tiger. I've last updated the music library on that machine probably about a year ago at which stage it still worked (by copying the library across from the other computer).
Now it doesn't work anymore. If I copy iTunes library over, I get an error message saying 'this library was created with a newer version of iTunes'. So that's no good. So what can I do without having to re-purchase and re-import music and re-set up playlistst etc? Surely that must be possible, they cannot just forbid me to use my own music that I've even purchased through iTunes? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Felicity.

Can someone help me sync my iPad with early operating system with my computers iTunes with latest operating system

You don't provide enough info to answer.
What model iPad and what version of iOS is it running?
    What computer?
    What "early operating system"?
    What version of iTunes?
    What "latest operating system"?

  • Is it possible to make the new iTunes look like the older version, which actually worked?, Is it possible to make the new iTunes look like the older version, which actually worked?

The current version of iTunes is rubbish. Half the time when I try to drag and drop new items to my iPod I get an error message. Why? It is not obvious how to create playlists, then when you finally manage do so using the top menu, you click 'Done' and it disappears. ***? This is a dog's breakfast and the developer should be sacked.
Apparently it is possible to set it up so that it looks and behaves like the earlier version, which worked fine--devices and playlists all appeared in fixed position o the left-hand-side men (why mess with this tried-and-true formula?). But I can't work out how to do this. Would appreciate some guidance.

It is very similar to the old version.
Just select the sidebar to be visible and it is mostly like the old version.

  • Is there a way to downgrade to older versions of add-ons?

I would love to use older, stable versions of several of my add-ons. Can I do this, however?

The newest version of an extension (Tab Mix Plus) does work as well (changed) as an older extension. An older extension works fine even though it is stated that it is not compatible. However, periodically FF updates it. I would like it to remain so that ut is not updated w/o my permission.

  • Itunes keeps playing the older version of a saved mp3 from Garageband

I export my original songs from Garageband 09 in mp3 format and add them to a playlist in itunes. Sometimes Ill make some changes to a song in Garageband and then export and replace the original exported mp3 with the same file name. The preview in Finder plays the new version but when I double click it or open it with itunes it plays the old one? Even when I delete the old one from the playlist and import the new file? Weird!

Add/Remove Programs doesn't work as well, when I click on uninstall for iTunes/iPod/Quicktime there just isn't any response or window that pops up
okay, let's try the technique from the following post. (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove isn't working for a program.)
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3366434
(the link in there to the itunes 7.0.1.8 installer now leads to a 7.0.2.16 installer. no cause for concern, use the 7.0.2.16.)

why do I have to provide more information about the crashes? Every time it crashes and closes the message says it is sending the report to Firefox
