ITunes purchased movie won't sync to iPod or iPad "not authorized"

I purchased a movie today and can watch it on my AppleTV and on my computer. However it won't sync to my iPod or my iPad because it says "this computer is not authorized." I have:
1. Checked that Home Share is on.
2. Authorized my computer.
3. Deauthorized and authorized my computer.
4. Looked for the movie directly from the Purchased tab on iTunes within the iPod and can't see any movie purchases there at all.
HELP, this is going to drive me batty!

Exact same problem with a brand new ipad 3.

  • ITunes-purchased movie won't sync to iPod

OK I'm going insane trying to find a solution to this problem - I recently purchased a movie from iTunes store, and it works fine on iTunes, but when I try to sync it to my 5th-gen iPod I get an error message saying that it can't be synced because it can't be played on my iPod. Obviously it is the correct format, because I bought it from iTunes, but to verify I checked all the formatting against 2 other iTunes purchased movies that DO work on my iPod - they are identical, the only difference being the 'Fairplay' version (the ones that work are version 2, the one that won't sync is version 3). I've trying resetting, restoring, reauthorizing... nothing works, I still get the same error message. Yes, it's a purchase, not a rental, and no it isn't HD. And of course there's space on the iPod and all the sync settings are correct, and the iTunes and iPod software are all updated. I tried mailing the iTunes support, but they just sent me a link to the article on the Support pages about syncing movies, which is completely useless for iTunes purchases because it just says they should all work.
Please tell me someone knows a solution to this problem!

Which version of the firmware do you have on your iPod? Is it the latest (1.3), or earlier? I ask because of the information regarding Fairplay version 2 versus Fairplay version 3 on this website:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=231582
"1.3 firmware has bug fixes and also an updated bit of code to play anything from the iTunes store that has a fairplay version 3. Most stuff on iTunes has Fairplay version 2, but some more recent videos have version 3. If you arent' downloading a lot of DRM'd content from iTunes, it likely isn't critical, but there have been no major complaints about the 1.3 update. At least compared to other updates. for instance 1.2 WAS a shoddy update. They pulled it. 1.2.1 fixed it... But nothing much else added to 1.3 if you are having no problems currently and don't have any fairplay 3 items in your library."

  • Movie won't sync to ipod nano because it "cannot be played on this ipod"

I got a movie via digital copy and it is HD, I kept it in the cloud since I didn't have time to download it, later I uncheked the box that says download in HD when available and downloaded the movie, but it is still in HD and won't sync because it is not playble on this device, said device is a 3rd gen (2008) iPod nano. Is there a way to downscale or resize the movie to fit on my ipod?

I don't know if this applies to digital downloads too:

  • Some itunes purchases won't sync to iphone - says computer not authorized

Last night I set up my 2 computers (desktop and laptop) to home share and authorized both. When I try to add purchased music to the library on the laptop (from the desktop), some of the albums will add fine, but some will say that the computer is not authorized. I don't remember which computer I was on when I purchased each album, but that shouldn't matter with sharing, should it? I authorized both computers and still get the error on some albums.
A while ago, I had to move all my music on the laptop (moved it all from the C: drive to the D: drive b/c I ran out of space). Would that make a difference? I can still see all my purchased music in the "purchased" folder, but can't add the albums from there either.
I can't seem to add music right to my iphone from the desktop when on the laptop either. Isn't that what the sharing should allow me to do?
I'm running Vista if that makes a difference. Please help, I want to get my music on my phone! Thanks.

    Thanks for the info.
So does that mean if I buy something from iTunes, I have to buy it on one computer (desktop) and can only sync to that one? Or should I be able to pull that music to the other computer (laptop) through the Home Share and then sync to that?
Almost all of my music is on the desktop. Do I need to have it ALL on the desktop and then put whatever I want to be on the iPhone onto the Library on the laptop and sync with that?
Still not sure why some of my purchases won't add to the iPhone??

  • When I'm trying to sync my iPad with iTunes on my MacBook Pro, i keep getting a message that certain recent purchases (TV shows) won't sync because the computer is not authorized.  But, it IS authorized!  What's going on here??

I've recently upgraded my iPad to OS 5 and I am running iTunes 10 on my MacBook Pro.  For some unexplainable reason, I'm now getting a message that items (mainly TV shows I've purchased through iTunes) are not able to be downloaded because the computer is "not authorized."  But the computer IS authorized.  I follow the instructions to "authorize" it and, of course, I'm then told that the computer is already authorized!  Still, the downloads won't sync.
Can anyone help me out with this?

I have the same problem. It is only with tv shows and only with programs I have downloaded after the software update.
Apple support sent me the above link too....but it doesn't solve the problem...my computer is authorized and the content is in my library and will play on my Mac air, but it will not sync the tv shows, it keeps saying my computer isn't authorized for it.
No answers here, but you are definitely not alone with this issue.

  • Itunes music videos won't sync to ipod

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have been trying to resolve this problem for a month. My daughter has a 5th generation video ipod. When she updated her ipod all of her music videos were erased from her ipod. They remain and play in itunes, but wont transfer to itunes. There is a message that states some files weren't transferred to ipod because they are not compatible, but they are and they used to be on the ipod. Once again files that used to play now won't transfer and are being labeled as incompatible. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. We are about to go on a trip and having her ipod work, would make it a much more relaxing trip for me... Thanks

After my computer freezes itunes says: Attempting to copy the disk "ipod name" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It also says: itunes could not copy "name of a song" to the ipod "ipod name" because the file could not be read or written. This is after it synced all but 100 of my 800 songs and all of my apps.

  • Play Video In iTunes Then It Won't Sync To iPod

I've just noticed that if I play a video in iTunes 6.0.2 it will then no longer sync with the iPod. iTunes says its not a compatible format.
I've just tested playing a video on the iPod (OK) then playing on Mac iTunes (OK) then resyncing. The video no longer syncs and removes itself from the iPod.
Looked in the threads but nothing there.
I have tried restoring my iPod to v1.0 firmware but this makes no difference. Videos that have previously been played inside iTunes will not sync.
Looks like iTunes 6.0.2 or Quicktime change the file format on play so it is then not accepted by the sync to the iPod.
    Any clues ??
    Thanks in advance.

Video is a pretty complicated subject.  I take it this video wasn't from your normal source so who knows what combination of audio and video codecs were made to produce the thing.  I also don't know how iTunes processes video.  Some converters can just pass through components and not really re-code them, and maybe iTunes did that to something that to something that really needed re-coding.  Maybe you'll find tips at:

  • ITunes won't sync new apps, I'm not authorized for them on this computer??

    Hello,
Everything with the update went well, bought/downloaded applications from iTunes, hit sync & got the message that I'm not authorized for them on this computer. I have to be, don't I? I remember when activating the phone that it did that... I think. Please help, I want to use my new apps.
BTW, I've tried resetting the iPhone by holding down the power & home buttons for 6 seconds & I've restarted my G5.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just solved it. Double clicked on one of the new applications from within iTunes, it asked for my password to authorize this computer, clicked sync & it's syncing now.
Hope this helps others that might have had the same problem.

  • Purchased Music won't go to my nano- says not authorized to play

For the last 3 months - with different versions of itunes - this same error msg, "Some of the items in the itunes Library including "Song X", were not copied to the ipod "my unit name" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer. The real zinger here is that music I purchased prior to the error that used to download to the same nano and worked, is now wiped off my nano. I see the songs, but the only ones that will sync are the ones I did not purchase from itunes. Any one else with same issue or know how to fix? Thanks.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes or play one of those songs; whem prompted, provide your iTunes Store account details.

  • My computer won't sync my iPhone, says its not authorized.

Recently I got a new iPhone because my old ones lock button was broken. I restored the new iPhone from my old ones backup on my computer. Now when I sync it to get all of my music back, a window pops up and tells me it can't be synchronized because this computer is not authorized to, then it tells me how to authorize it
So I do that, click authorize this computer and a window pops up saying "this computer is already authorized. Including this computer, you have authorized 5 out of your available 5 authorizations" or something
So why can't I sync my phone then? And why does it say I have authorized 5 when I've only ever used 2 different computers?
    Please help
My iTunes is up to date and I have deleted the SC folder
Signed out and signed back in, no change

Help! I have the same problem.  I have been watching Boston Legal Season 5 for the past two weeks. Downloaded it to my iMac and then to my iPad mini and then hooked the mini up to my TV via an HDMI adapter. Everything went fine for the first seven episodes.  Now it will not play any episodes on the TV.  They play fine on the iPad Mini. When I try to play them on the TV, it says "content not authorized" and tells me to log into my iTunes account.  Strangely, it displays my Apple ID and simply asks for my password.  Unfortunately, it displays MY OLD APPLE ID which I have never used on this iPad, and which has since been changed, so I can't even log into iTunes.  The Apple ID on my iPad Mini in Settings, etc., is my new Apple ID, not my old one.  This iPad has never used the old Apple ID.  And there is no way to change it. In both the iCloud and iTunes & App Store settings, my new Apple ID appears. When I open the iTunes Store App, it tries to sell me Boston Legal Season 5 AGAIN!!!!! When I check my Apple ID by logging into iTunes, it immediately asks me for my credit card info and then tells me it is out of date.  It isn't.  Is that why Apple has blocked me?  It wants new credit card information so it can charge me AGAIN for something I already paid for?   I'm done with Apple downloads.   Back to DVDs from Amazon.

  • ITunes 7.2 won't sync to iPod - partial solution?

    Hello guys,
here's what I got. Only mp3s that were encoded by using iTunes 6.0.5 won't be sync'ed to my iPod - all other songs will work. Can someone verify this on your systems, please.
It would be possible to revert to an earlier version of iTunes, if someone had an iTunes 7.1.1 (all the links on apple.com are no longer available).
To do so, delete iTunes receipts (HD/Library/Receipts) and iTunes and try to re-install iTunes 7.1.1.
It is possible to re-encode the songs that won't play with exactly the same settings from cd or hd and then theys can be sync'ed.
But I also know, for a lot of you, it is not do-able to re-encode evrything - it's quite a lot of stuff handled by iTunes.
    I hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Enrico

This is interesting... I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional done by Apple. Either way... this is the problem as I see it:
You buy 10 random song from the store... burn them to an audio CD... and then rip that CD as MP3s to now have unprotected music. Now you have a full library of MP3s rather than M4Ps. However iTunes does not replace the M4Ps because the Album/Track information does not match exactly... which leaves you to manually erase the protected music.
However... if you buy a complete album... and repeat the same process... iTunes will automatically replace the protected music (M4P) with the unprotected music (MP3).
The files from the second case will sync perfectly fine onto my iPod... however... the files from the first case will not.
Bug or intentional? Seems intentional doesn't it. Just seems to contradict where Apple was going with selling unprotected music. Or maybe... they are trying to get rid of any way to make your music unprotected... so you have to spend the extra $0.30 on each song. Interesting that this "problem" has been created with the same release of iTunes that allows you to buy more expensive, unprotected music.
Haven't messed around enough to know if there is a good work around.
