ITunes purchases gone due to virus

I'm posting this on behalf of my less tech savvy brother 800 miles away.
Somehow he got a virus that deleted all his iTunes songs that he has purchased. I googled and read that this virus does exist. Is there anything they can do to get their purchased songs back? They are on a Windows based machine.
I suggested they call Apple tell them the deal, and they MIGHT be able to allow them to re download the songs they already downloaded...because it should be on their credit card records. Any other suggestions? Or anybody else have this experience and got some good answers somewhere? Seems pretty brutal to me.

Here's Apple's policy on that: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
Point him to this article - maybe his songs are still on his hard drive somewhere.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301749
He can ask for another download, but Apple has to pay the royalties again so I don't know if they will allow it. There is no phone number to call. He should log into the iTunes store, click on purchase history and he can report a problem from there.

  • Itunes purchases gone??

Just recently after getting a new phone, I noticed all my "Purchased" items (years of them ) aren't showing up when selecting "Purchased" items from music and such.  Thankfully I have my library backed up but has anyone else experienced this??  I don't like the fact that I can't access that now.
Help or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thx

    Hi jwyndels,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're not seeing any of your past purchases, first make sure you're signed in with the right Apple ID (iTunes Store account).
You can use the steps in this article to check the purchase history associated with your currently signed-in account:
iTunes Store and Mac App Store: Seeing your purchase history and order numbers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2727
On a computer, you can also check to see if your purchases were hidden:
    To unhide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
If you're not already signed in, choose Store > Sign in.
Choose Store > View My Account. (You may be asked to enter your password again).
On your Account Information summary, scroll down to the "iTunes in the Cloud" section and click Manage.
Choose a content type by clicking Music, TV shows, Apps, or Books from the top.
Click the Unhide button next to the item you would like to restore.

  • Photoshop CS6 gone due to virus...how do I reinstall it?

A long time ago I downloaded photoshop CS6 for my computer. A few days ago I got a virus and had to get my computer completely re-booted. I got to save my personal files, but anything that I downloaded I had to re-install them. The programs I remember were easy to re-download, all but Photoshop. Is there any way I can get Photoshop CS6 back? I tried to download the CC version but that was just trial... I don't want to buy the program all over again.

Of course. Get the Photoshop CS6 installer here and have your serial number ready.

i had my Itunes account disabled due to fraud, if i create a new itunes account how can i switch purchases and apps to the new ID?

    Hi ...
Just be cause the account was disabled (Apple ID) doesn't mean you can't reset the password and have access to your iTunes purchases.
Use the iforgot link to reset your password > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears
If you have problems resetting, use the email form here >   Apple - Support - iTunes Store - Contact Us

  • ITunes on Windows gone due to crash. Switched to an iMac. Now what?

Brother-in-law lost his iTunes library due to Windoze machine dying. He switched to an iMac. Still has his iPods but no associated iTunes library with it now due to the crash (and no backup).
What can he do in this situation to get his library back and working on his iMac?

1). Connect the iPod to the computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all the songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from the iPod.
2). When when the iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use the iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and the iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore an iTunes library from the iPod. iTunes itself will only give you the option to copy iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from an iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
expod Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep the iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that your brother-in-law gets himself an external hard drive and backs up his stuff up, relying on an iPod as a sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • New Hard Drive - purchased iTunes are gone

Recently i had to have my hard drive replaced.. the guys from Best Buy's Geek Squad managed to salvage "my documents," which contained my iTunes music folder. When i transferred all the data to my new hard drive, the only music files that were on there were the ones i had transferred directly from cd.. all of my purchased iTunes are GONE.
Is there a way to get them back? I'm missing about 800 songs!! ..and there's NO WAY i'm paying for them all over again.
    Someone PLEASE help!!
    Thanks.
    Nicole.

If you have the My Music Folder, they should be there in your play list. Are you saying that these songs are not there? I thought that all songs get put into this folder. I would suggest looking again under compilations, etc. Secondly, there are some things that can be done to recover these songs from your iPod, but I don't have any experience in this and have no idea how to recommend that. You might try a Google for some help with this. Finally, buy a second HDD to back up your current HDD. It is absolutely critical. Best of luck!

  • Has any Coldplay fan lost purchased content within iTunes, I have recently noticed my Coldplay Live 2012 purchased on iTunes is gone from my iCloud library and no longer available for purchase ! A bit strange considering there new album just went on sale

Recently I have noticed my iTune purchased concert movies after being put back in the cloud are currently missing.
I have never had purchased content from iTunes vanish from my iCloud library and also not be available for purchase on iTunes.
When I had Apple personnel attempt to push the content back to me, they could not find Coldplay's Live 2012.
Even more strange considering their new album just went on sale and renewed interest must be prompting fans to review their collections.
A beautifully shot concert film is missing, a sad situation to be sure!
Thanks for any iCloud wisdom and other fans noticing the same thing.

  • How do I retrieve my iTunes purchases?

I had to restore my computer due to a virus emergency. The wipe ended up destroying my iTunes backup completely because the virus literally infected everything, and now it says that there's no available downloads (I think that has something to do with authorizing computers, because I never got to deauthorize my iTunes before I restored my computer to factory settings). How do I retrieve my iTunes purchases? There's got to be some way to do it, I spent probably over $500 on purchases and will be really upset with Apple if there's no way to get it all back.
Also, I looked up some YouTube videos on how to do it, and some mentioned a place on the Apple website where you request them to reapply your active downloads, which will recover all of your purchases even in a situation like mine. However, all the links that were provided on the videos are now broken. If someone could either tell me what to do straight up, or send me a working link to that place, that'd be great. Thanks!

Depending upon what country that you are in (not all content types can currently be re-download in all countries) then you should be able to re-download some/all via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you are not in a country where everything can be re-downloaded and you haven't got a backup then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

If you are not in the U.S. and you didn't backup your iTunes purchases, you will have to re purchase.

  • ITunes for Windows freezes when importing a library. I have a large but not huge library of mostly iTunes purchased music on two authorized computers and would like to sync the files, export the library as a playlist, and import it on the other computer.

I am running iTunes for Windows 10.2.2 on Windows 7 Home. I have my iTunes library on both this computer and another authorized machine running Windows 7 Professional. I have a large but not enormous library, as I'm one of those people who doesn't pirate, use torrents, borrow from a dozen friends, or whatever other shades of gray you might imagine. It's mostly iTunes purchases with my old CD collection imported. I have started using the following technique to sync my libraries between my two authorized computers, an ability which you can probably all agree should one day be added to iTunes -- that would be different from Home Sharing, because the music would be stored locally and thus available on the road. With the added benefit of the entire library being backed up on the other machine in real-time. Anyway, when I switch from my desktop to laptop and vice versa, I use the following technique:
Connect both machines to the home network. One machine is the "Active" machine, which has most recently been used for iTunes media, purchases, ratings, etc.
On the "Active" machine, File-->Library-->Export. Save the file as "Library.xml" on the shared drive of the other machine.
Right-click "Library.xml" where it's been saved, and open another file that has two lines in it: The root path of the iTunes library on one machine and the root path of the iTunes library on the other machine.
Do a find/replace all in Notepad to make the library XML file point to where the files will be saved on the "Inactive" machine.
Run Microsoft SyncToy to synchronize the files between both music libraries; the most recent files win. This avoids copying the entire multi-gigabyte library over the network.
Open iTunes on the "Inactive" machine.
Go to Music, Select All, Delete. Keep files.
Do the same for Movies, Music Videos.
Go down to Playlists, select the top one, hold down the delete button until they're all gone.
File-->Library-->Import Playlist. Choose the "Library.xml" file you saved.
First a status bar comes up that says, "Importing library." It has the continually-scrolling progress bar, not the one that starts on the left and steadily creeps right. Then after about 30 seconds, that clears out. Wait. Typically a few minutes. Eventually a status bar will pop up saying something like, "Evaluating gapless playback information," or something like that.
The "Inactive" computer is now the "Active" computer. I can now play my library, it has all my playlists and metadata from the other machine.
Delete all the duplicate playlists named "Music," "Genius," "Purchased," and "iTunes DJ."
Well, I just upgraded to iTunes 10.2.2 a few days ago and tried to do this again like I've done it dozens of times before. Now, iTunes just goes unresponsive after the library import. It got through the "Importing library" bar to the long wait and stopped. I can still multiprocess and use other programs, but iTunes is hovering back there not responding to clicks. Task Manager doesn't seem to think iTunes is using my CPU, and I don't see my hard drive rattling. Any thoughts on why iTunes might hang up when importing a large library?
... Also, please help lobby Apple to come up with a network sync tool built into iTunes for a user with multiple authorized computers. Something different than Home Sharing so I can pull my laptop off the network and still have the synced library with me. And all my metadata changes will sync. The technique I use seems a little kludgey, don't you think?

iTunes isn't an editor. You need an app that's intended for editing audio files, like Adobe Audition (http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html) or Audacity (free in the App Store).

  • Can I access an iTunes purchase on a pc on another devices, on my iPad by logging into my iTunes account?

Can I access an iTunes purchase made on a pc....on another device(iPad) ?

Tv show, music can be seen under the purchased section in the iPad itunes app.

Apps can be seen under purchased in the app store and downloaded.
Movies cannot be accessed due to licensing restrictions.

  • I just bought an iMac yesterday. I'm trying to transfer my iTunes purchases

I haven't had a Mac since I was about 6 years old. I just bought a Mac yesterday because our PC bit the dust and I needed something quickly for an art project that is due next week. I want to upload my music to the computer, and I'm having a problem.
I deauthorized all 5 of the other computers that my iTunes account was set up on, and most of my iTunes purchases were transferred. However, all of my most recent purchases begin to upload, but then this box pops that says: "Attempting to copy to the disk 'Macintosh HD' failed. An unknown error occurred (-39)."
Like I said, I'm still not entirely comfortable with my new Mac, it was just out of the box yesterday and I don't understand how everything work with it. So what exactly does this message mean, and how can I get my music on the iMac computer?
