ITunes put my iPhone in Recovery Mode.
I'm scared ******** to try and attempt to follow the instructions for reviving my iPhone 3G w/WiFi.
I use my iPhone more than my Laptop. So much smoothier and faster. This is the page I have picked (maybe) to walk me through the fix. So that is why I am here. To discuss the fact I am gutless. Not a Doctor that has performed the same operation to the point of being a natural. As she may not refer anyone, I felt she was supportive. Jailbreaking may sound like a crime though the criminals aren't at all. If there is a bad, good for nothing law, the law-biders have to invent a "work-around". My only excuse for begging to find the one Professional criminal to Apple's/iTunes bad policies is that I want it done right the first time. iTunes threatens that if I go with iCloud, iTunes will never back up my Device ever. Then, so sweetly, iTunes pops up and says "oh, may we do your Update to 6 for you?" I was not going to **** them off again so I okayed the offer. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF UPDATING, ITUNES POPS UP AGAIN AND SAYS "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG AND THE UPDATE DID NOT COMPLETE" This is what YOU can do...................................... and you know what is the only sweet nothing - no big deal SOLUTION is to what ITUNES DID TO ME...... Oh, NO NO NO...... I've been fighting for justice and liberty for far too long to just hang my head with my toy THEY BROKE and go home to suffer and cry............... AND MAYBE KILL ME A COMMIE.... lol I come from Mission Viejo, CA. I refuse to lose all my Data in my revolt on the ever-so-large Housing Industry Racket.
I haven't tried HTML4 in years at Geocities. Remember? Before we could figure out what the big deal with Bandwidth was all about, Yahoo Geocities just closed up and shut us out. iTunes reminds me of Geocities....... They do not communicate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.2.1 update downloaded to my imac,but has put my iphone in recovery mode!!
Hi,as the title suggests yesterday I downloaded update 4.2 to my imac and when it finished downloading I got the message,"itunes detects an iphone in recovery mode.You must restore the iphone to be compatible with itunes." So I clicked on the restore icon and after a couple of minutes I get the same message about being in recovery mode.
I've been on the support site but nothing,checked out a couple other sites aswell,downloaded Recboot,iRecovery,tried on another computer to restore,but nothing is happening.
Love my apple products,but so p#####d off that when something goes wrong it's a nightmare.
Please can anyone give any advice that I haven't already tried.

I had a similar problem. Went to update from 4.1 to 4.2(.1) and every time it failed and left my iPhone stuck in recovery mode. Usually it failed with the error 1013 or 1004 - which according to Apple are hardware issues. THEY ARE NOT.
There is a simple fix for this: If you are on a windows PC:
goto:
C:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\
and if there is a file called: hosts.umbrella (or something very similar) then delete it.
There should also be a file called: hosts (or something very similar) - Open that with your favorite text editor and remove any line which has: apple.com
Then save the file, restart your PC and begin the update again, all should work fine. -

I have an IPhone 4 which I just updated with the latest software, which put in it in Recovery Mode. It has the picture of the plug with ITunes, I downloaded it now its saying its in Recovery Mode, how do I save all of my previous data without Restoring?

After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod.... -
Hello, my iPad has been disabled, and it says that I need to connect to iTunes. As instructed I connected to the find my iPad/iPhone site to put it on the recovery mode. My phone was put into recovery mode and I know that not all data is deleted it just puts the phone into a sort of hibernation in order for the files to stay uncorrupted. Calls, messages, photos, apps, and voicemail was all there as if it never happened If you leave it unregistered you don't have to pay for it works for either windows or mac. Hope this helps!

when i upgraded my iphone to the new update My iphone 5 screen went completely black and has been like it for 2 days. I have tried holding home and lock,I have tried holding lock and the volume, and I have tried holding just the volume, it still just stays black.

when I power on it shows go itune logo starts. Then I tried to download restore and update it shows Tunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. It also happened to me. What I did was to put my USB connector at the back of my PC (the main USB port) then I open my iTunes again and Viola, it solves my problem.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

So im thinking a Restore is needed.

GUIDE: How to put your iPhone into Recovery/DFU Mode
As most iPhone owners will be aware, you can reset your device by holding down both the home button and sleep/wake button together until the device reboots. This will cure the majority of crashes and issues.
However, there may also be occasions where the phone goes seriously wrong and may appear to be 'dead'. Not everybody is aware that there is a second method which can be used to bring a phone back to life when all else seems lost. Consider it a 'last resort' if you like!
The second method involves putting the phone into recovery, or DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. Putting the phone into recovery mode lets iTunes know that it needs to perform a full restore on the handset. Here's how to do it:
1. Ensure that the iPhone is OFF before starting.
2. On your computer, open iTunes.
3. Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable.
4. Hold down the SLEEP/WAKE Button and the HOME button together.
5. After 10 seconds, let go of the SLEEP/WAKE button (keep the home button held down).
6. Keep holding the HOME button until iTunes displays a message saying that it has detected a phone in recovery mode.
You will then be prompted to restore the phone using iTunes. Follow the on screen instructions and your iPhone will be restored.
You may also have the option to restore your iPhone from a backup, but I would not advise doing this if you think that an app may have caused your device to go wrong in the first place.
The above method can also be used to get around forgotten PIN numbers. I've used it to restore several of our company handsets when people have handed their phones back in but forgotten to provide their PINs!

In order to put iPhone in recovery mode, firstly leave USB cable connected to computer, but disconnect cable from the iPhone. Then turn the iPhone OFF. Next press and hold the Home button on phone.
While continuing to hold the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the iPhone. Continue to HOLD until you see the "Connect to iTunes" message on the phone's screen. iTunes should message it "has detected a device in recovery mode" -

Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".
