ITunes Questions (movie format, Gapless, iPod)

to avoid board clutter, i'll post my multiple questions here:
1. When purchasing a movie, is this a movie one can then burn to a DVD and watch in a standard home DVD player?
2. What is the format and size ration of a movie purchased through iTunes?
3. Gapless Playback... is this something that will affect my 60GB video iPod that i've had for a few months?
4. How will Gapless Playback affect my current library? will it write new info to the tags or what have you?
5. Is there any new feature which allows us to reveal duplicate songs on the iPod now?
i'm aware of third party stuff, but is it a standard feature which I can't find?
thank you for any assistance!

2. H.264, 640x480.
3. You need to upgrade 5G video iPod to 1.2 software which is automatic when you sync up with iTunes 7 the first time.
4. Don't know if it write new tag info. In my case, after 1.2 upgrade, gapless playback is automatic. I didn't have to re-upload sound.

  • How does iTunes detect move format when purchase

Doh...  I asked previously a question and cant find how to locate the inital request out the the 10's of thousands...  So i'll ask again... Sorry.
How does iTunes determine if your system can handle HD movies when  purchasing?  I ask because I have a highend workstation with high end Quadro 2x dual DVI card with matching high resolution monitors (Dell 3007's).  Itunes prevents me from purchasing/downloading HD movies.  If however I purchase them on my other system (mulitmedia laptop) i can play them on my workstation.  Bit of a pain to be purchasing on one system only to play on another...  Solution will be to put HD's on NAS.
    Any suggestions?

iTunes is aware of the serial number of each iPhone.  The backups stored in the iTunes area contain serial number information.
You can change the name of her iPhone several ways.  One is on her iPhone in Settings > General > About > Name.
You say "... the receiving end sees my name on their display."  That is because you are listed as the financially responsible party - the bill payer.  Her name would be seen, for example, if she calls another iPhone and the call recipient has her set up as a separate contact from you with just her telephone number.
If you want her name to show up on her phone, in general, perhaps your cellular carrier can do that.

  • Possible to move itunes from windows formatted ipod to a mac?

I would like to move all my music from my windows formatted ipod to my mac book. Ive tried looking up info but get lost around the parts that only specify moving itunes from mac ipod to a windows...

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for OSX
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes downloaded movies' quality question..

    Hi everyone.
I just got me a Fifth Generation, 30GB iPod, and I can say, I am really satisfied with it. I synced all my songs in it, and a month from now, I am planning to buy an AV kit for it, for me to be able to watch all my iTunes bought movies in my 37" HDTV, and therefore, making it an advantage for me to just sync all the movies in my iPod instead of buying a hard copy DVD. What bugs me, though, is will the quality be really comparable to those of the DVD's once I plug and watch all my movies into my HDTV, and will the sound be clear? I am not so worried on the photos, for I am aware that it depends on their size. However, the movies are really posing a major question if I must or must not buy movies from iTunes, or just convert my DVD's to MP4 format.
To those who had already tried hooking up their 5G iPod into their Hi Def's, your help will be more than appreciated.
P.S., how long will it take me to download a single, full length movie from iTunes?
    Again, Thanks.

I don't have Hi-Def but the quality is excellent on a 23-inch analog set.
I have 1.5 Mbps DSL and I download a 2-hour movie in approximately 2-1/2 hours.

  • Movies in itunes but not playing on IPOD

Movies are in itunes and in the proper format. Movies play great using itunes. Movies are transferred to IPOD, but when I go to play them using the ipod, the screen freezes and the movies do not play. When I play the movies from the IPOD using the computer; everything is great. I must be doing something wrong. Please help.

I'm having the same problem with TV Shows. I've bought a standard definition season like I always have, but when I sync it to my ipod, the screen stays black and the show won't play. Any help anyone can give is welcome!

  • What file format do I need to put a movie on my ipod?

I don't know how to get movies on my ipod. Do I have to use an imac? Does it have to be in mp4 format? Can it be QuickTime?

The compatible formats for videos for a Fifth Generation are either:
MP4, MOV, M4V, or protected MP4 (only found at the iTunes Store).

  • HT204370 I registered a digital copy on disneymoviesanywhere and connected with my itunes account but can't find the movies on my itune account.  Just want to download the movie onto my ipod touch.

I registered a digital copy of a movie on disneymoviesanywhere.  I connected the account to my itunes account but I can't find the movie on my itunes account.  I'm just trying to download the movie onto my ipod touch.

    Hey cptniemo,
Thanks for the question. Connecting your iTunes Store and Disney Movies Anywhere accounts should sync all of your eligible Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies between both services. After connecting your accounts, you can check your purchased history in the iTunes Store:
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Alternatively you can download the free Disney Movies Anywhere app from the App Store (iOS 7 required):

For more information and support with Disney Movies Anywhere, see this resource:

  • HOW DO I LOAD MOVIES(BESIDES ITUNES STORE STUFF) ONTO MY IPOD

I figured out that by buying this particular program online, I could use it to convert most movie file formats to ipod movie files, but the process is time consuming, slow, and unreliable sometimes in terms of the fidelity of the final product versus the input file. Am I overlooking an easier way to do this that is built into the iTuanes/iPod system? Any infor would be a big help, thanks!
    Ben

As above, when I uncheck "Manually manage music", I GET A BOX WARNING ME THAT ALL EXISTING CONTENT ON THE IPOD WILL BE REPLACED WITH THE CONTENT OF ITUNES if I don't want to manage music and videos manually. Until I click "cancel" in that warning box, iTunes is frozen and I can't do anything at all, let alone click "Apply" (which doesn't appear on the page anyway -- the box at the bottom right hand side is "Sync"). I get the same warning box when I check "sync music" in the Music tab.

  • Does anyone know a converter from the new iTunes TV/movie file type to one that will work on my 5th generation iPod video?

I just tried to load some new TV shows from my iTunes onto my 5th generation iPod video and it says the video format is not supported. I currently have dozens of TV shows and movies on the iPod, I just wanted to put some new stuff on there. So I need to know if there is anyway of converting the new iTunes video format into one that will run on my 5th generation iPod.
    Thnaks in advanced.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • What movie formats play on ipod touch

I just tried synching my iPod with my Mac, three short (10-12 min each) movies in *.mov format. iPod says it won't synch them because it can't play them. Doesn't tell me what it can play though.
Don't you hate it when a program goes all coy on you?

    Oops, not so fast.
HandBrake did change formats, but when I try to load them onto my iPod, I get the same error message: [paraphrase] will not load because the format is one this iPod cannot play.
So I guess my question stands.
If there are presets for formats for iPod . . . I failed to see and/or take advantage of them, I fear. Will take another look, of course.

  • What files format do i need to use to export music from itunes to play on another ipod???

can anyone help - i want to be able to attach the exported files to an email and send to a friend!

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll normally be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
Answering quickly, the formats an iPod can play can be found in the specifications:

  • ITunes-purchased movie won't sync to iPod

OK I'm going insane trying to find a solution to this problem - I recently purchased a movie from iTunes store, and it works fine on iTunes, but when I try to sync it to my 5th-gen iPod I get an error message saying that it can't be synced because it can't be played on my iPod. Obviously it is the correct format, because I bought it from iTunes, but to verify I checked all the formatting against 2 other iTunes purchased movies that DO work on my iPod - they are identical, the only difference being the 'Fairplay' version (the ones that work are version 2, the one that won't sync is version 3). I've trying resetting, restoring, reauthorizing... nothing works, I still get the same error message. Yes, it's a purchase, not a rental, and no it isn't HD. And of course there's space on the iPod and all the sync settings are correct, and the iTunes and iPod software are all updated. I tried mailing the iTunes support, but they just sent me a link to the article on the Support pages about syncing movies, which is completely useless for iTunes purchases because it just says they should all work.
Please tell me someone knows a solution to this problem!

Which version of the firmware do you have on your iPod? Is it the latest (1.3), or earlier? I ask because of the information regarding Fairplay version 2 versus Fairplay version 3 on this website:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=231582
"1.3 firmware has bug fixes and also an updated bit of code to play anything from the iTunes store that has a fairplay version 3. Most stuff on iTunes has Fairplay version 2, but some more recent videos have version 3. If you arent' downloading a lot of DRM'd content from iTunes, it likely isn't critical, but there have been no major complaints about the 1.3 update. At least compared to other updates. for instance 1.2 WAS a shoddy update. They pulled it. 1.2.1 fixed it... But nothing much else added to 1.3 if you are having no problems currently and don't have any fairplay 3 items in your library."

  • HELP newbie please......... video wont seem to move to the ipod from itunes

got 80 gb 5th gen. slowly building up music playlist and also photos. no probs syncing them up as i progress.
But as I placed a small video off my hard drive into itunes. the itunes plays it.. but when the ipod syncs up, no video seems to go over to the ipod.
Any ideas. Ive read what I can. but it seems that it should juts move over like the music does. can anyone give me an easy a to z check list to follow please?

What are the specs for the video? (video and audio codec, data rates, etc.) iPods support fewer formats than can iTunes, so you may have the video in a format the iPod can't play. Here are the formats an iPod will support:
    H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
ive even dragged across manually to the ipod when its showing up as a drive on the desktop.
That won't work even with a compatible video.
