ITunes & Quicktime fail to start

I am getting the error message "This application has failed to start because QTCF.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I have already looked in the system folder and it's not there. My system will not let me uninstall; I get the same error message. Thanks.....cherrala

Doublechecking something, cherrala. Have you ever had a version of the program "QT Alternative" installed on that PC?
(It's a stripped down third-party version of QuickTime, and some versions can drop QTCF.dlls in odd places. It also uses QuickTime registry entries, so under some circumstances that might lead to the System losing track of where QTCF.dll is supposed to be.)

  • ITunes/Quicktime will not start.

iTunes/Quicktime will not start. Nor will anything quicktime dependant start. (Like Adobe Go Live) I recently reformated one of my Windows PCs and reinstalled m$ windows xp pro. I begain installing nessacary software and when I was done with iTunes/Quicktime (Why the heck is it now bundled?) it would not start. Could it be a codec conflict problem? I also tried reinstalling iTunes/Quciktime and nothing changed...
    Any comments would be appreciated.

    hi trackmanxs!
then i got the new quicktime and i am gettin error -1316 and -1603....someone please help
here's what we'll try first with that one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Unable to open iTunes - Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096)

I can't open iTunes. An error message pops up that says: "Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096). Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes multiple times and I still get the same error message. I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime, but that doesn't work either.
    Please help!

Have you had a chance to look at this Apple support documented related to this issue? If not, it would be a good place to start.

  • ITunes is failing to start, Please Help!

Ok, I am having trouble opening up iTunes. First, when I clicked on the icon to start iTunes, a window came up saying, "The procedure entry point OpenServiceW could not be located in the dynamic link library MPlugin.dll." I didnt know how to fix this, so I posted a message on the 'Using iTunes for Windows' on the Discussion board. The reply that I recieved was "Delete MPlugin.dll from C:/Program Files/iTunes/Plugins/" I did that, and now, when I try to start iTunes, it says, "This application has failed to start because MPlugn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Im not sure if it is telling me to re-install iTunes, or if i should repair iTunes.... I have no clue. Please help!

I'll post the same thing I posted in another thread; it might help you. Reinstall itunes again according to my post. Some of the information is irrelevant to your problem, but hey, i'm kinda feeling lazy and don't want to edit it. You'll get the idea. Here it is.....
"this is just a suggestion. If you reinstall itunes again, make sure you follow the directions in the support section of this site for uninstalling itunes and quicktime. Another thing they don't say in that article that I did when i had to uninstall itunes was to do a search. You know, pressing the start button and then "Search". Make sure when you do, click the search "All files and folders". Then set it to look in "Local Hard Drives (C:)" or "My Computer"; i'm not sure which search will pop up your itunes files. Try them both. And then type in the "all or part of the file name" box, itunes. After the search is done you should have a bunch of different itunes components in the results. Btw do the same for quicktime as a search. Make sure to DELETE every itunes and quicktime file there. If some of your music files happened to come up in the search, use commone sense. Get rid of every component so itunes and quicktime is completely erased from the system. Make sure that you do this after you've already restarted your computer once (according, to the uninstallation article). Then just empty your recycle bin, reboot your computer, and finally reinstall itunes. Good luck and ask me anything if you have some questions!!"
Let me know if it works or not. Again, good luck!
Remember, this is just a suggestion, it's up to you if you want to do it or not.

  • ITunes Sync Failed to Start

Recently, and definitely after the last iOS update, and after I bought the iPhone 6, iTunes does not sync to my phone. It says 'failed to start'. The same applies to my iPhone 5S. One post advised us to close all apps, but iTunes does not have an x next to the icon, when I tried to delete it. And if I delete iTunes, will I be able to get it back later?
    What else should I do?

Somehow I can Sync the iphone again after I deleted some voice memo. However, I am not sure exactly what I had done. Anyway now is back to normal. Thank God !

  • ITunes, quicktime won't start

    Problem:
When iTunes is launched, the process shows up for several seconds in the process manager before disappearing without an error message. Subsequent attempts to open iTunes feature it disappearing from the process manager in a much shorter period of time. Attempts to open quicktime result in an error box saying "QuickTimePlayer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."
    History:
I installed itunes v.6.0.1, without a hitch. After restarting my computer as asked by the setup, I was able to open itunes. However, after another shutdown, itunes could not be opened, as described above. Subsequent removals and reinstallations of itunes result in it working until I reboot the machine.
    Things I've tried:
I do not have any Norton products installed, and qoolaid-related processes do not show up in System Information/Software Environment/Running Tasks, or in scans made by HijackThis as shown below. I tried restarting into safe mode with command prompt, but searches of winnt/system32, winnt, and any of the startup folders in under documents and settings did not reveal any of the executables or dlls associated with qoolaid. Additionally, scinfo.sidb has been delated from application data in documents and settings.
Running processes (as shown by hijack this):
    C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\services.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exe

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\mmc.exe
    C:\Shared\AAA_Stuff\HijackThis.exe
Additionally, system information showed csrss.exe as running.
All drivers are up to date. Please help me! I've no idea what to do next.

    hi Wowbagger!
hmmm. the QT error message is unusual in these error-less itunes launch failure cases.
let's try heading into MSCONFIG to see if there's something else (apart from the Qoologic thing) causing problems. try applying the following technique:
Using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows
first let's just see if itunes and QT will launch after you do a selective startup with just qttask.exe, ituneshelper and ipodservice enabled.
if they do launch, steadily try adding startup items back in during startup until you get the QT-crash/itunes-errorless-launch-failure again.
let us know the names of any startup items that you absolutely have to leave disabled in order to avoid the launch failure and/or QT error.

  • Quicktime fails to start or load

hi My step dad is having this quicktime issue he can't get quicktime to load , I watched task manager and it shows it loading and then just goes away ,
I know I have reinstalled 4 times , with cleaning the reg between them.
I have booted in safe mode , and used the safemode (wave out) and all have the safe effect .
I tried using MSconfig , diagnostic mode (no service and startup files) and it still does the same thing.
I'm at a loss here.I can't think of anything else and doing a google search didn't come back with anything.
I'm hoping someone here can come back with some idea's.
and no Itunes doesn't load either.
Windows comes back with an error or itunes . I think it was itunes.exe creator and error and needs to close.
thanks for anyhelp I may beable to give him.

what's the precise text of that iTunes message?
sometimes it's easiest to send us a screenshot of the error message box. there's instructions in the following user tip:

I'm having the same problem. It seems to happen as iTunes is trying to parse my music files after it starts. Gapless playback was someone's thought, but I turned that off.
That was when I could still catch it before the crash. NOw it starts up and crashes instantly.
This started happening when I had to upgrade to 7.0.2 from 6.?.? because I bought a shuffle.

  • Itunes 6 fails to start

I just loaded Itunes six and it is suffering the same problems as everyone else. It acts as if it is staring, hard drive cycles, Task Manager shows ituneshelper.exe, ipodservice.exe and itunes.exe running. If I attempt to end process on itunes.exe, my computer locks up. Also, my computer will not shut down properly. I am running nortin internet security 2005, but my previous install of itunes 5 was working fine as of last Sunday and I verified that Itunes is permitted. Also, I am not able to revert to old itunes. I believe there is a bug in Itunes6.
Any way of getting previous Itune version? I am just running a shuffle

    hi Peter!
Also, my computer will not shut down properly. I am running nortin internet security 2005, but my previous install of itunes 5 was working fine as of last Sunday and I verified that Itunes is permitted. Also, I am not able to revert to old itunes. I believe there is a bug in Itunes6.
nope, that's almost certainly your NIS 2005 ... it just seems to be the luck of the draw whether or not an itunes upgrade or new installation (from
    b 4.8 onwards
...) gets hit by the symptomless launch suppression problems.
if it's just your itunes processes getting suppressed, then these techniques should help:
    b noir, "itunes wont open" #6, 02:11pm Oct 3, 2005 CDT
... but if those techniques don't help, you're probably getting QT process suppression too, and you'll need to try the "Lorraine" technique:

  • HT1349 ITunes failed to start after an upgrade, won't allow me to re-install saying "Apple Mobile Device failed to start, check for sufficient priveleges"

My ITunes library failed to start after an upgrade, now I'm unable to open or re-install.  Receive an error message stating that "apple mobile device failed to start, check to see that you have sufficient priveleges to run system".  Any help with this?  I've tried un-installing and downloading only to get the same message again.

Thank you to "turingtest2", solution for someone else worked for me as well!

  • HT1926 I cannot connect my iphone to itunes. When I go through the troubleshooting, it tells me to uninstall and re-install itunes. BUT I do not have Apple Software Update or Quicktime to uninstall. It tells me that Apple Services failed to start!! Please

I go through all the motions in troubleshooting and uninstall Itunes, but I have not got Quicktime and Apple Software Update to uninstall. I then re-install Itunes but I get an error saying that 'Service Apple Mobile failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start'. Which I have.  Please help!!

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

  • "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. itunes does not recognize my iPhone4.

I decided it was time to resync the music on my iPhone since its been months. I begin the sync and after a minute or so, my iTunes suddenly does not recognize my iPhone and freezes. I honestly have no idea what happened but was undaunted.
OS is MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
    Now, after trying:
    - updating to iTunes 10.6.3, which stops installing after a popup saying "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. With the options Abort Retry or Ignore. Retry does nothing. Ignore allows iTunes to install but it doesn't recognize my phone still which is all I care to use iTunes for.
    - uninstalling all iTunes, Apple, Quicktime, and Bonjour software, which was difficult to do since you have to follow a particular order or else they wont actually uninstall.
    - performing a registry clean using CC Cleaner
    - wiping my compter's apple related Temp files in app data..
    - restarting with a clean boot... updating all drivers.. updating windows..
    I am becoming quite daunted.
I have done essentially every single thing I could find that might resolve this error. I restarted and tried again (this is the third or maybe four time) and it still will not install.
I cannot get any third party software to recognize the phone either since I need that Apple Mobile Device. I could always sync my library with Spotify but that's cumbersome and makes me not like my beautiful iPhone.
Any help would be AMAZING. I've run out of ideas.

The link above is bad... that account has been suspended.
Just an FYI, I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and had just downloaded Itunes 10.7 for this platform.
Please know that I have NEVER plugged any Apple device into this great computer.
I have the new Iphone 5 READY to plugin and in ANTICIPATION of installing that phone; I first wanted to start by installing Itunes without any hardware potentially messing up the works.
I have the exact same problem as reported here and in about 100 places here at Apple.  Please note this system has never seen ANY of these apple applications including quicktime, Itunes, Bonjour, or anything else from Apple for that matter.
So basically, I'm stuck.  I've read the articles at about 20 sites now and it looks like this is a SEVERE and widespread problem; however, I have yet to find a "real" solution.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.  I'm an IT/Telecom Expert and it took me 3 hours to get the Iphone 5 setup and working properly (mainly because of the screen not working sideways for 95% of the configuration options and being forced to fat finger settings) including everything working with Icloud hosted contacts, facebook, a few networks and getting my gmail out of the way (of Icloud and facebook) and finally getting everything rocking, only to hit the wall when it came to Itunes.  Kind of a drag if you ask me.  (I'm thinking the Samsung Galaxy III that I returned to get this thing might have been less grief; but I guess we'll see).
Anyone with a real fix, please reply!  I could use the help BEFORE I try to plug this phone into my computer!
    Thanks!

  • HT1926 reinstalled itunes after unistalling it due to error message during update. after it was completly unistalled still has the same error message: service "apple mobile device" (apple mobile device) failed to start, verify you have sufficient priviled

I was prompted to update itunes this evening. I did and in the process, it came up with the following error message: Service "apple mobile device" (apple mobile device) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priviledges to start system services. I unistalled itunes completly and reinstalled but am still getting the same error message. If I click "ignore" the program will finish downloading but will not launch due to "not being installed correctly". My iTunes stopped working at this time.  I thought I could delete iTunes and start over. This tactic did not work.
Can anyone make sense of what I am saying and help me to get my iTunes back again?

Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
