ITunes/Quicktime fix for Vista?

Many commerical podcasts, as well as videos I know work in XP and MacOS don't seem to want to allow me to add them to my iTunes lib nor sync to my iPod. I suspect it's Quicktime's fault since when I try and play them in Vista quicktime says it cannot read the files atom, but the same videos run fine in XP and MacOS.
I've reinstalled both many times in vista in case it was some sort of bad install and found other people having the same problem on these forums.
Any word on an iTunes/Quicktime fix for Vista to allow us to view/sync these files again?

This works an absolute treat. I couldn't get past the VB Script error but once I'd followed you're instructions it took me 15 minutes to get it all installed and running. Everything works fine.
Cheers

  • Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for Vista & XP

A possible fix for users wanting to get Flash Player 10 fixed
and running on Windows XP and Vista.
    See here for details:
    www.thetechangel.com/blogberry/2008/10/adobe-flash-player-10-fix-for-vista-xp/

(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same  for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. I have this also posted on wwwdslreports.com at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22115254-IE-IE8-and-Adobe-Flash-Question and here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r22361930-Adobe-Flash-Player-10-Fix-for-WinXP-IE8-Firefox- ect. It appears to work for everyone so far. I have not heard of any problems from users with this problem running the RC (Release Canidate) for Windows 7 yet.
I hope this works to your benefit.

  • HowTo: iTunes+Quicktime on Windows Vista x86

This was fun. Some of you may have noticed that the iTunes + Quicktime installer may not work on Windows Vista Beta 2 (x86). Well, there's an easy work around:
Install Quicktime 7 Standalone first, then install iTunes.

After digging and reading since I posted this question, I finally found the issue. My Cisco VPN client was set to stateful firewall (always on). When I turned off this setting, all machines worked for iTunes sharing. The Vista box was coincidentally working because the Cisco VPN client 4.6 didn't work on Vista.

  • Why must I completely uninstall iTunes, quicktime etc. for every update?

Every time I try to update iTunes there is a problem installing the iTunes software. I am forced to uninstall iTunes, quicktime, bonjour etc. every time! This is very irritating and takes a longgg time (considering I must also fully install it again). I have already tried deleting my Temp folder...Any ideas?

Can you detail what "problem" arises? Is it the same problem every time, and if so what exactly is the error message. If you can provide that information, it will help people diagnose the problem and offer suggestions.
One common problem, for any OS or application update, is antivirus and antispyware software. It's usually a good idea to temporarily disable any such utility prior to attempting any software installation or upgrade.
    Regards.

  • Installing iTunes 7.3 for Vista

My version of iTunes has been disabled and Windows is telling me I need toinstall the newer Version. However, whe I start the installation I get the error message "iTunes could not be installed because Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is not installed or has been diabled. Make sure VBScript is installed, turn off script blocking in anti-virus and personal firewall software, re-registerVBScript, and then install iTunes."
I did the above, and it still won't install. Now that I can't run the version that was on my laptop before the failed attempts, what am I to do with my iPod?

I just solved my problem by going back through the discussions. One supplied by Usual_suspect81: Solutions for VBScript error message for Vista systems. It worked for me
    Thanks.

  • Will the latest version of Quicktime Pro(for Vista) create a Lime Lapse from a .Mov file (from a video camera)

Will Quicktime Pro for Windows convert a .MOV file to a time lapse?
I have a six hour tripcoming up next weekend, and want turn a full length bullet cam video(native .MOV) of it into a time lapse to post.  I have found tons of info saying QuicktimePro will go from stills to time lapse, but only one reference to converting an existing 1080P .mov file into one.
Any and all help and or direction  will be greatly appreciated!

QuickTime Player Pro can open image sequences and export to an image sequence. This will create a series of still image files, sequentially named to a folder you create.
Open the video and choose Export from the File menu. In the next dialog window choose "Movie to Image Sequence" and then click the "Options" button. Here you set the "frame per second" and the file format (JPEG, PNG, etc.) and other options (like target file size or compression).
Set the FPS to one and one image file per second of video will be extracted and compressed. If your source was 30 fps then the first frame of the first second of the file will be saved. Set the fps to two and the first and fifteenth frame will be captured.
    Some words of cation:
Be sure to create a new folder prior to the export. You don't want hundreds (or thousands) of image files cluttering your desktop.
Edit the source file prior to export to get a "long" shot of the action. Scene breaks will look awkward when they are played at high speed.
Don't make a 1080 file export to image sequence. If your source is 1080 use the View menu to change it to "Half Size". These half size image files will help keep the file size down and help playback on older machines.
Now that you have your folder of images choose "import Image Sequence" from the file menu and set your fps rate back to the same as your source file.
You'll note that file size of your exported/imported project will probably be larger than your source file (and maybe too big to share on the Web). Export it again "Movie to QuickTime Movie" and choose H.264 video codec and set an "average" data rate. This should crunch the file five times smaller.

  • Cmon apple, itunes, quicktime-fix this problem

Does itunes, apple, and quicktime know this problem (buffer overrun/ c++viusal) exists?
I'm guessing by the looks of this discussion board that there are hundreds of viewers that have this problem and 10's of thousands who havn't griped yet.
$900 worth of ipods in my family and they are all rendered useless!!!
      Windows XP
      Windows XP

That buffer overrun error affects many programs, not just QuickTime and iTunes. Do a search and you'll find that error reported quite commonly. So while I can't say for certain, it may be a problem with your system, not with QT or iTunes per se.
Here are some things to try (collected from other web sites):
First, download and install the Ewido antispyware security suite (you can download a trial version of the program). When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". Launch ewido. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update, then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
    Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report. (it may be useful if spyware is detected that cannot be removed)
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Then close Ewido and, if it reported any infections, reboot and try iTunes and QuickTime and see if matters have improved..
If that doesn't help or doesn't turn up anything, try this:
Try running Disk Cleanup from System Tools or CCleaner (freeware) to remove unnecesary files. Then run the Disk Defragmenter from System Tools.
Next, click Start then Run and type chkdsk /f (Note the space before /f) and click "OK". This procedure is going to want to run on reboot so go ahead and type Y at the prompt and press "Enter" Reboot your machine. This might take a while depending on what it finds...Do Not interrupt this operation!
When it completes and is back to the desktop, try QuickTime/iTunes and post back with how it is running.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there a Fix for Vista 64 w/GB RA

    Hi,
I see quite a lot of topics on this issue and before I install any I would just like to know is there a fix?
I see the Creative have released a new driver update and also Daniel_K so can someone who has 4GB of RAM please post the best driver!
    thanks
    Danny

I dont know if my problem is appropriate for this thread, but I will place it here hoping that someone can help me. I have been suffering from the hissing, popping and crackling from my X-Fi Platnum ever since stepping up from 2GB to 4GB RAM. I saw that a new driver was out for my OS so I jumped on it. Now I cannot get my sound card to work at all (other than simple windows sounds). Windows Vista cannot find the drivers I just installed...after I rebooted, for two separate devices (see link to screen shot).
I already tried uninstalling them from the control panel and reinstalling them, but the same error happens.

  • Ultimate ITUNES Store fix for WINXP

I think what the ultimate perfect fix will be is:
    1) Turn off all your virus protection software
    2) Turn off all your firewalls on your computer and your router (routers have firewalls - so know how to do this).
    3) Reset your MTU to 1400 on your router and your computer (many ISPs will cut up the communication packets which cause communication errors - if you do not shrink the MTU to 1400).
    4) make sure that APPLE support clears your account of all errors in the downloads.
    5) Try to download a song only. I am not sure if you can find a free song, but APPLE support should give you a free song to try.
** Turn it all back on after you finish your download **

I am still awaiting the ITUNES STORE technical support to reset my downloads so that I show no pending downloads (STEP 4 above). After a week and three emails sent and responded to they still are not fixing the problem. Whats does it take to get good support? I have recieved some download credit, but I need the download records to be reset so that I show no downloads pending.

  • Time fix for Vista x64 via boot camp...

Can someone tell me what specific drivers I need to load from the Leopard DVD to correct the constant changing of my the time on my Mac when I boot into Windows?
    Vista x64.
Tried the registry changes, but they only seem to help temporarily as the time will get messed up later on (even when I have Internet time disabled).
Really frustrating problem as I have date/time stamp issues with development software I use (Visual Studio 2008).
Typically my PC will show 8 hours ahead. (I'm in Pacific Time zone).

  • Quicktime RAID Intel Vista Failed

I've noticed a dozen posts regarding this issue. Intel says it's Quicktime causing the problem. How do we contact Quicktime Support to hear their side of the story. This is a major problem. Unsuspecting users can repeatedly lose data from these RAID failures caused by Quicktime.

There is a problem with RAID volumes and QuickTime and iTunes on Windows Vista - using Intel chipset. That isn't in contention.
As for what triggers it or not, hum... it's no fun if it affects you and your system. WHY is it that Quicktime and iTunes are an issue? is it related to choppy performance when playing back content from some (slower) boot drives?
Safari 3 was made available when it was still "alpha" which I think was too early and tarnished it some (I could see only if it was actually needed for iPhone, but that begs more questions).
+If you look in the Vista event viewer you will find event id 9 errors with a source of iastor, which is the intel raid driver. This is the source of the quicktime slowdown. If you leave quicktime running long enough it will fail both drives of a raid 1 array and Vista will crash.+

    QuickTime Vista RAID Havoc
As someone who runs Vista x64, and has all my media and data files on a RAID, I don't take things like this lightly. (I also will not be installing Quicktime or iTunes until x64 support looks better.)
UPDATE: So it looks like some of these issues could be related to using an Intel RAID array and that there could be fixes coming with the famous Vista Service Pack 1.

  • Fix for VBScript Error When Installing iTunes/Quicktime on Vista

With GREAT THANKS to http://www.keathmilligan.net. I was able to fix this problem by performing the following steps:
The iTunes/QuickTime installer will fail with a "VBScript not installed" error on some installations of Vista. I'm not sure exactly what leads to this situation as it does not seem to affect all Vista users, but there is a relatively simple fix:
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories then RIGHT click on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
change directory to your windows\system32 directory
    enter the following command:
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll
This will re-register VBScript and allow the iTunes installer to run.
After almost pulling my hair out for a month, this worked like a charm and I was able to install iTunes/quicktime with the latest version and get to hear my music again after a month of trying everything. THANKS KEATH
