ITunes/Quicktime Frustration

So I got an iPod nano for Christmas and put some songs on it without a problem. Today I go to add some more, and it says that I have to update iTunes or it won't sync with my iPod. Being a little confused, I go ahead and do it anyway.
After I've installed the newest version of itunes (which comes with the newest version of Quicktime along with it), I go to open iTunes. It tells me that I can't run it until I've updated my Quicktime to the newest version (7.1.3).
Huh.
I goto Quicktime and look up the version in the About section. It says 7.1.3. I keep this open and try to open iTunes. It says I have Quicktime 7.0.4 installed and I need to install 7.1.3.
Huh.
I even have a screenshot of it: http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/1521/appleidiocyay0.jpg
This has been frustrating the crap out of me for the past hour. Does anyone know what's the problem and/or how to fix it?

Before doing a reinstall of iTunes, do a complete uninstall of both iTunes and Quicktime. Follow the directions in the link listed below. Make sure the files listed in step 16 are removed. Good luck...

Help! Got new iPod Nano for Christmas and I STILL cannot get it to show up in iTunes - it has showed up in my device manager - with an over the icon - "The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Drivers. - Then another error - Wizard cannot find the software to instal -(my iPod did not come with a disk!!!) I have done the "R's" several times! Downloaded and installed and uninstalled several x's from iTunes. Changed USB locations - I have three to choose from. Now - I am 'repairing' the latest installation from iTunes and I get this "itunes + quicktime error message - service 'ipod service' (ipod service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". Any ideas??? I'm not a computer genious....but I'm not a complete newbie, either! I am so FRUSTRATED!!!! This should be that difficult - I added additional RAM and it was a breeze and successful! This is just ridiculous! Any one have any other ideas???? I have read so much - even emptied the battery and recharged!!! HELP! Please! I just wanna hear some music!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Thanks - I got it to install by going into 'run' to get to permissions, etc. So that seems OK - but my computer is still not acknowledging iPod software and for some reason iTunes is now showing 'the URL could not be opened' when I go into Help for iPod. It's still not showing up in Itunes, either

  • Quicktime hangs in all possible manners (iTunes, Quicktime, Browsers)....

....when trying to view any sort of video.
    Whenever I
Don't take this the wrong way but I've tried every possible thing to fix this error except reverting to previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime and I'm pretty tired and frustrated in dealing with this. The problems started happening when I upgraded iTunes to the latest version.
What happens is whenever I play a video in iTunes, QuickTime, or a Browser (IE, Firefox, Opera, or Netscape) the first frame of the movie will appear and whatever program that is playing the movie will hang until I kill it in the task manager. I've tried just about everything in the forums or the Apple tech articles and nothing has worked. So oh apple gurus get ready for a tough one. Are ya up for the challenge?
    Thanks in Advance

  • How do I install  iTunes+QuickTime on Vista

When I try to install the latest version of iTunes+Quicktime, everything works until the very end when QuickTime is installing, the I get an error box saying "This Installer Cannot Upgrade QuickTime 7 For Windows Public Preview, Please Uninstall First". I uninstalled existing QuickTime, but the dialog box pops up every time. I don't see any references to QuickTime in Program Files or Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. I assume there is a reference somewhere in the Registry.
    Any ideas?

  • ITunes/Quicktime will not open

So iTunes 7.02 and whatever the latest quicktime is will not launch at all. If I launch them they'll show up in task manager, but will never open. Ending task does nothing but cause my comp to go completely unstable (won't shut down/reboot except with a hard shutdown, can't go to add/remove programs, explorer is f'd up and won't close and reopen itself, etc). Also, trying to launch either of them prevents me from opening new programs or shutting down.
I've scoured the web and itunes support and haven't found a solution that works for me.
    So far I've...
1)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, deleted all files (except for itunes preferences/playlists), rebooted and reinstalled.
2)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, reboot, installed quicktime 6.4, reboot, unistalled quicktime, reboot, reinstalled itunes/quicktime 7+
3)uninstalled itunes/quicktime, delete all itunes/quicktime files, reboot, installed quicktime standalone, installed itunes.
4)uninstalled apple software updater, and redid #3.
    5) uninstalled quicktime and itunes, rebooted, removed itunes preference files from both application data folders, reinstalled.
And tried some of the above a few more times.
There were no hardware/software changes, this just started happening two days ago. Plugging in my shuffle will charge it but iTunes won't launch (except in task manager).
I don't have Norton/McAffee (that was creating a problem for some people). I'm using windows firewall and it is already an exception. Current anti-virus is AVG 7.5, I have all the security updates including SP2.

excellent news. glad you're up and running again.
here's what was probably going on. since itunes and quicktime (and ituneshelper) are internet applications, your Firewall will be keeping an eye on modifications to those programs. typically a new set of rules is generated for the new versions of the applications. so it's possible for the Firewall to allow the earlier version of the application, but balk at the newer one (because there's different sets of rules for each one).
so if you run into this sort of thing again after an upgrade, try checking through the exceptions that you firewall has set up for those new versions of the applications.

  • 9.1.0.79 update, iTunes/QuickTime.

This update came in today (6th April 2010), here in Ireland.
Please note that I am neither an iPod nor iPhone user. My only portable devices are BlackBerry and Nokia. My only static comp is XP.
During the update, the application looked for a file for "MobileMe" somewhere under Documents and Settings and failed. I let it try again. Failed. So I clicked "Cancel" and the update continued to conclusion satisfactorily.
Immediately afterwards, I was asked to instal "MovileMe". I agreed. The installation (very quick) succeeded. However, when then I exit-ed, I was asked again to instal it. I agreed. Same result. So I quitted.
I assume "MobileMe" is an application for use with an iPhone or iPod e.g. for contacts synchronisation, back-ups, etc. Can anyone confirm this?
If so, why does iTunes/QuickTime look to update an application I do not have and then seek to give it to me when I have no Apple portable device registered? Is this an omission in the update's configuration? Or, is there a means whereby I can register that I do not use these products and so should not be offered updates for their desktop partner applications?
To conclude, I find iTunes a very worthwhile device for downloading music. However, any update installation glitch is always a source of anxiety!

As regards preference items, do you mean something like this: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\nb.lproj\DevicePrefsMobileMe.nib?
No, those ones are program files ... language resource files, although I'm not sure off the top of my head what language the nb.lproj folders/files relate to.
The preference files are stored in the following two main areas on XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\
(Where username is the name of an XP user account ... so if you've say got three user accounts on the PC and everyone uses iTunes, there will be iTunes preferences files in six locations in total, because there's an iTunes preferences folder in each of those locations in a user account.)
Still not sure what the installer was looking for in there ... I've got a MobileSync pref folder at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync
... but that's not quite the same thing.
Ah well, if iTunes is playing fine, I suppose we can take it as a good sign that nothing too peculiar was afoot with the installation mesage ...

  • HowTo: iTunes+Quicktime on Windows Vista x86

This was fun. Some of you may have noticed that the iTunes + Quicktime installer may not work on Windows Vista Beta 2 (x86). Well, there's an easy work around:
Install Quicktime 7 Standalone first, then install iTunes.
    Problem solved -- iPod works.
    'Nuff said.

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update, I can no longer access the itunes store and my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?

The problem is with version 10.4.1.  I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work.  The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me.  Here was their list of steps:
    Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
    2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
         a. iTunes
         b. QuickTime
         c. Apple Software Update
         d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
         e. Bonjour
         f.  Apple Appllcation Support
    3.  Reboot PC
    4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:
    5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
    6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
    7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
    8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
    9.  Reboot PC

  • ITunes / Quicktime won't install - error message during in installation

My computer, a Dell running with Windows Vista, has not been able to have iTunes & Quicktime installed on it in months. I've attempted to install it a countless number of times & tried a variety of things with my computer to install it but it just doesn't work - I get the same error message everytime. I can't even remember what happened to make it start acting so ridiculous.
It always starts out looking good and everything seems to be working pretty well, the green bar filling up pretty quickly, but then the 'Status' gets to about 'Publishing product information' and the error message pops up and I can't install it. It goes along the lines of "A error occurred during the installation of assembly: ..." then it goes on to say 'Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007054F'. Here's a screenshot of the error message with the long whatever on it:
    http://i46.tinypic.com/qoesm1.png
I believe I get the same message even when I attempt to download the two software separately (iTunes & Quicktime).
Can any one tell me what needs to be done? I have no idea what to try anymore. All help will be much appreciated. Thank you .
P.S.: If it helps, I can't really reinstall Internet Explorer (removed it when I downloaded Firefox).

    Thanks!
    (3) And I do not believe I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed on this computer, as I just tried to install it and I received this error message: http://i45.tinypic.com/a3m7bc.png
Okay ... that rules out one possible treatment. Sometimes people with the redistributable installed can get past this by applying a security update for it ... but it looks like the same sorts of problems are preventing it from installing.
    (2) And last time I checked my History I had several failures I believe, however now I only see one failed update, that being Update for Windows (KB944036). The error code listed 8000FFFF. Apparently it's an update for Internet Explorer 8.
The other primary strategy we (I?) have for dealing with these is to attempt to treat any underlying issues on the PC that prevent Windows Updates from installing. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that your 8000FFFF is related to your IE being uninstalled, I think we'd probably better try following up on the following document:
[Error when you download updates using Windows Update or Microsoft Update: 8000FFFF|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414]
After applying those measures, do your Windows update and/or iTunes installation failures clear up?

  • Error in Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

    Hello Everyone,
I am a regular user of I-tunes but recently i dont know why but I got some error in Launching I-tunes. So as recomonded by "Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7" section. I started removing the products. But after removing Quick time, I tried to remove Apple Software Update but while uninstalling it gave error that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." and the uninstall rollbacks.
Please send me a feasible solution to this problem.
    Thank You.

Uninstalling the iCloud control panel should allow you to do that folder deletion.

  • ITunes/Quicktime installation went off quite smoothly//All works fine

    Hi Friends,
A few days back I had posted a query wanting to know if iTunes v9 works fine on Win XP SP2 or not. 1 guy said that it may or may not work. But guess what, everything went perfect and smooth, which was totally unexpected. I was on iTunes v6.0.2.23 and was apprehensive about upgrading directly to v9. I tried upgrading to v8 long time back but that failed miserably. But v9 installation went smooth, heres how :
I had Quicktime in my PC and I figured out that it was corrupted. Quicktime wont open (eventhough iTunes v6 did). So I thought of fixing the existing version of Quicktime first. I had Quicktime version 7.0.4 installed in my computer. Somehow it never showed up in Add/Remove programs so I wasnt able to remove it. So I went to www.oldversion.com and downloaded the old version (i.e. 7.0.4) of Quicktime. This installer file first allowed me to uninstall the corrupted version and then let me install the good version of 7.0.4 Quicktime.
After this, I found that Quicktime now worked perfectly on my computer. So I went ahead and downloaded the latest version of iTunes + Quicktime and installed it. And guess what, my 5 yr old Windows XP [ Pentium 4 - 384 MB of Ram] now runs iTunes v9.0.0.70 and Quicktime v7.6.4.
    My Review :
    Quicktime :
Though the player looks sleek, it is still incompatible in playing most video file formats. It does not recognize a simple 'wmv' file, does not play 'avi' file, though it suggested me to download some codecs to play 'avi' files. But why would I do that anyways..? I have VLC which plays almost everything. All audio files work good in Quicktime and MPEG-4 video playbacks are awesome.

    Video :

    iTunes :
Wow, this latest version of iTunes is a complete boon. There is so much to do with this new version. I am totally amazed with its added Grid view and CoverFlow view. iTunes DJ is another added advantage. Who needs a professional DJ when you have iTunes with you ? iTunes v9 was quick enough to retrieve the entire Library and my playlists from v6 and within minutes I was back to my music and videos with an all look on my new iTunes. Both audio files and video files work perfectly fine in this new version, just like it did with my old version. All good things bring some bad things with them too. This new version is too much bothered about Album Artworks and asks me to update them which is irritating. And the Genius function does not work for me since I am in India and India does not have an online iTunes store yet.

  • IMac G5 freezes on start up after ITunes, Quicktime and Security update

On June 2nd, the following event occurred on my IMac G5 (model year 2005) equipped Mac OS 10.4.9
Upon completion of the automatic update for Itunes, Quicktime and a security update, the computer restarted.
However, the start-up sequence freezes on a grey screen with the logo for the power button displayed in the middle and a message inviting to hold down the poer button down for 5 sec to re-start.
the only way to complete the start up sequence is to hold down the apple key while pressing the power button.
Does anyone have any suggestions to regain control of my computer ?thank you in advance.

Welcome to Discussions - Hopefully, you repaired permissions both before and after updating, if not, it might be a good thing to do now. Also, you are not alone in having problems with the update, take a look at this.
Generally, it's better to install updates one by one, so that if you have problems, you know which one caused them.
