ITunes + QuickTime installation help

I've been following the "Trouble instlling iTunes or QuciTime software in Windows" instructions. Initially tried to install ITunes and QuickTime using iTunesSetup.exe which I downloaded on 20 Feb 07. I got the error "The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. ITunes required QuickTime". I then downloaded QuickTime for Windows and successfully installed that v7.1.3. I tried to install ITunes again - the same error occured. I have installed, uninstalled etc etc - and am at a loss as to what to do next. Can anyone assist?

Those sorts of messages can also be associated with disk/file damage. So I'd be inclined to try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions and a guided help in the following Microsoft document:

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, try running an iTunes install again. Does it go through properly this time?

ITunes + QuickTime installation Problem

I've got an iPod Nano as a present but I'm unable to download iTunes to play it on because of a problem with Quicktime.
When I try to download iTunes + Quicktime the following error comes up:
Could not open key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayer.Lib.QuickTimePlayerApp/CSLID Verify that you have sufficient access to that Key or contact your support personnel
I've tried uninstalling QuickTime complety but it doesn't work.

I had also had a problem with iTunes and discovered that Quicktime may be the culprit. iTunes appears to successfully install but, when I launch it, I get this message, “ iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
I have tried the Solutions to Common Installation and Launch Errors and have not solved the problem.
O I tried to completely remove iTunes and QuickTime and reinstall (While during that I did not find a QuicktimeVR file to delete). That did not work.
O I tried to empty my Temp directory but, I could not delete all the files. Same problem occurred when I reinstalled iTunes.
O I tried to install QuickTime without iTunes and it would not install. I got a message from QuickTime for Windows saying, “A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.”
O When I try to launch QuickTime from the program list, Windows cannot locate the QuickTimePlayer.exe.
O When I try to uninstall QuickTime, I get the following message, “The following file does not exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file.
C:\WINDOWS\system\QUICKT~1\UNINST`1.LOG

A few days back I had posted a query wanting to know if iTunes v9 works fine on Win XP SP2 or not. 1 guy said that it may or may not work. But guess what, everything went perfect and smooth, which was totally unexpected. I was on iTunes v6.0.2.23 and was apprehensive about upgrading directly to v9. I tried upgrading to v8 long time back but that failed miserably. But v9 installation went smooth, heres how :
I had Quicktime in my PC and I figured out that it was corrupted. Quicktime wont open (eventhough iTunes v6 did). So I thought of fixing the existing version of Quicktime first. I had Quicktime version 7.0.4 installed in my computer. Somehow it never showed up in Add/Remove programs so I wasnt able to remove it. So I went to www.oldversion.com and downloaded the old version (i.e. 7.0.4) of Quicktime. This installer file first allowed me to uninstall the corrupted version and then let me install the good version of 7.0.4 Quicktime.
After this, I found that Quicktime now worked perfectly on my computer. So I went ahead and downloaded the latest version of iTunes + Quicktime and installed it. And guess what, my 5 yr old Windows XP [ Pentium 4 - 384 MB of Ram] now runs iTunes v9.0.0.70 and Quicktime v7.6.4.
My Review :
Quicktime :
Though the player looks sleek, it is still incompatible in playing most video file formats. It does not recognize a simple 'wmv' file, does not play 'avi' file, though it suggested me to download some codecs to play 'avi' files. But why would I do that anyways..? I have VLC which plays almost everything. All audio files work good in Quicktime and MPEG-4 video playbacks are awesome.

iTunes :
Wow, this latest version of iTunes is a complete boon. There is so much to do with this new version. I am totally amazed with its added Grid view and CoverFlow view. iTunes DJ is another added advantage. Who needs a professional DJ when you have iTunes with you ? iTunes v9 was quick enough to retrieve the entire Library and my playlists from v6 and within minutes I was back to my music and videos with an all look on my new iTunes. Both audio files and video files work perfectly fine in this new version, just like it did with my old version. All good things bring some bad things with them too. This new version is too much bothered about Album Artworks and asks me to update them which is irritating. And the Genius function does not work for me since I am in India and India does not have an online iTunes store yet.

ITunes&QuickTime installation failure due to QTTask.exe-Your help is req

The last 2 weeks I am facing a problem with the installation of the iTunes r9.x
During the installation process, and when iTunes tries actually to install QuickTime the following error appears blocking and stopping the whole process.
“Error writing to file c:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory”.
Whatever I tried in order to solve the problem… was failed.
I uninstalled all the Apple applications according to Apple’s support guidelines; I deleted any relevant application traces (e.g. files, directories, registry entries etc), I checked the disk for bad sectors but without success. No need to mention that I am the administrator of my laptop. Every time that I am trying to install the applications either QuickTime or iTunes (w/o QuickTime), the error message above appears again stopping any installation activity and rolling back the whole process. I am in a fully dead-end as I don’t have any idea how should I solve the mentioned problem. Any support from any of you guys, will be very much appreciated.
Last but not least, I have Windows XP Home SP3.

ITunes+QuickTime installation from CD of iPod nano Issue

During installing the s/w from CD. an error regarding QT was displyed (something to do with files) and later the installation was over. When iTunes is launched get an error "iTunes have encountered problem and needs to be closed". and it asks whether you need to send the report to Microsoft.
Uninstalled iTunes+QT and tried again but no success. Also tried installing the s/w downloaded from apple website did not get QT installation error but still getting the same MS error. After clicking on the error report, the error signature part shows following information.
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 6.0.1.3 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040
Also tired to find simlar issue on this forum but no luck and hence posting this message.

After reading certain posts I was able to resolve this issue today morning. I have been working on this since yesterday since my new ipod nano was delivered, so about for 15+ hours on and off.
The problem started when I tried to install s/w from CD. Hence thought of downloading the s/w from the website. That also did not solve the problem. Then started looking at discussions where lot of posts mentioend the similar issue during the same time frame. Uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. Also went back a week to have my desktops savepoint restored. But no luck.
Hence when today I found a posting on this site about downloading standalone quicktime, followed that path and what you see, after installing standalone quicktime, iTunes got loaded, was able to see my new ipod nano in itunes and have already uploaded songs on it.
So whats the lessons learned. Apple still needs to come over the hump of making USER FRIENDLY SOFTWARE ( its that what APPLE is known for?).
Certainly I never thought that it will be such an exercise to have it installed.

Itunes & Quicktime Installation Problems

I had the old itunes, but i want a new ipod and they will not run with old itunes. When i tried to update, it would not install. This happened when i first got itunes and we had to change registry files, i looked for the article i used last time to help me change them but could not find it again.
It said this:

ITunes + Quicktime installation error

Originally, I attempted to upgrade my old version of iTunes to version 7.2.3, and at the end of the installation I receive an error saying:
+An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files+
I then uninstalled iTunes, and tried to reinstall it to see if it'd fix the problem. But I keep getting the same error message, and the installation will not continue.

Given that it's idiosyncratic, let's try seeing if the *General Instalation Troubleshooting* section from the following document is of any help:

... but if no joy there, let's try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: [email protected]
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:

Hi I have a iPod Touch 16GB 2nd Gen. I have downloaded v9 of iTunes but when I try to install I am getting an error message saying I need to be an administrator. I am the only user on the machine and an administrator. Ant advice please? Thanks

I'm having an awful time. Everything was fine. I went to purchase a TV episode like normal. I got a message that said I needed to upgrade to the higher version. Fine. No problem. Itunes has always been in 32 bit. I did the upgrade. Went to open it expecting nothing out of the ordinary. I get another message that tells me I need to upgrade to the 64 bit installer! Fine! Do it. The install seems to go fine. Go to open ITunes and I get another message telling me that my library was saved in a higher 32 bit app and the 64 bit upgrade can't read it! Now, no matter what I do, I can't access ITunes at all! I tried uninstalling and reinstalling...I'm at my wits end! I don't know what to do! Anyone out there that can help me? I have a 16GIG 2nd gen Touch, not that that matters.

QuickTime Installation Help

I first tried to install Itunes and it came up with an error message you need version 7.03. you have version 6.5. I tried to delete the 6.5 version not through the add-remove programs. Then I tried to install the version 7.03 standalone. It came up with this error message and wouldnt install!!

Write down the path to the key referred to in the error message. For example: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{CA8A9783-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000 }.
2. Choose Start > Run, type regedit in the Open text field of the Run dialog box, and then click OK.
3. Back up your current Registry file:
a. In the Registry Editor dialog box, choose File > Export.
b. Type a name for the file and choose the location.
c. For Export Range, choose All.
d. Click Save.
4. Navigate to the parent of the key referenced in the error message. For example, for the key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{CA8A9783-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}, open (double-click) HKEYLOCALMACHINE > SOFTWARE > Classes > TypeLib.
Note: These steps may vary slightly depending on the path in the error message
5. Right-click on the parent key and select Permissions.
6. In the Permissions dialog box, click Advanced.
7. Select both "Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here" and "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects," and click OK.
8. Click OK in the Permissions dialog box. Windows will now reset the permissions for each child object to correspond with its parent.
9. Reinstall Quicktime
If Quicktime still displays an error message, you may need to investigate permissions on the particular registry key in question. If you can't change permissions on that key, contact Microsoft or your hardware vendor for assistance.
Also, I may note that viruses and spyware can cause this type of error to occur. You may also want to run your virus and spyware programs to see if you have that issue. If you do not currently run those, use AVG Free antivirus, EWIDO, SpyBot, Panda, or Housecall, all are free to download and use.

My computer switches off during iTunes+Quicktime installation

Older version of iTunes was not adequate for my new iPod Classic 160GB, so I downloaded the file, but when trying to install it, the computer swiches off by itself.
The support service of Apple told me to uninstall and delete all previous iTunes and Quicktime files, so I did, but the problem persists and the only advise they gave me was to come to this forum. Anti virus is off during the operation and I don't know what to do next. So I don't have any music left ...

Could you say which version of XP and Service pack you are using? You can see this by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties>>General tab.
If I understand you, you computer crashes when you attempt to install iTunes.
Do you see any kind of error message on the screen when the computer stops?
If you see a message, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
For example:
Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

Itune\quicktime installation error invalid G drive on Windows

Hi,
I am trying to install Itunes 9 on a Thinkpad T61. When it gets to the quicktime phase, it says invalid G drive. I have tried going to the cmd prompt and performing Subst G: C:\, but after doing so it goes a little further, then says "the specified path is too long G:\lib". My only option is to cancel out. I have tried starting in my dock with external drive plugged in and thumb drive too to avoid having to use the SUBST command. When I do it this way, I get a different error, 2869.
I have tried just installing quicktime separately, but does not work either. I etiher get Error 2869 or that the G drive does not have enough space? I have a different laptop (older T41) that it worked just fine. Why not just use that one? The USB ports will not operate at 2.0! (known but separate problem). Sorry for the long question, but could not find anyother similar post!

Doublechecking Jim. Have you tried the procedure I describe in the following post? (In your case you'd be looking to change the drive letter to G rather than F.)

Itunes Quicktime Vista HELP

bought a nano. Tried for about 3 weeks to get itunes onto disc to get it onto vista because we dont have the internet. We finally got Itunes on disc. Now its says it needs Quicktime. So we got Quicktime on to disc but quicktime says Error 2093. And prompts us to uninstall and then reinstall quicktime except we havent installed quicktime on the vista yet.
Any ideas?

The iTunes setup program includes Quicktime so you shouldn't need a separate Quicktime. If you have iTunes on a disk I wonder if it is an old version?

If you can, get a friend with an internet connection to download the latest iTunes and put it on a CD or memory stick for you.

HowTo: iTunes+Quicktime on Windows Vista x86

This was fun. Some of you may have noticed that the iTunes + Quicktime installer may not work on Windows Vista Beta 2 (x86). Well, there's an easy work around:
Install Quicktime 7 Standalone first, then install iTunes.
Problem solved -- iPod works.
