ITunes + Quicktime refuses to let my Vista run mfpmp.exe with WMP

After I upgraded my iTunes + Quicktime, I can no longer play like half of my mp3s in Windows Media Player (11.0.6001.7008). Like half of my mp3s in WMP have the x inside red circle error next to the mp3 name & when I click on it, it says ""Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

The following information describes the original error. Original Error Code 80040218 Original Error Message No combination of filters could be found to render the stream."
I know the files are not corrupt because they play fine on my Compaq computer which has the same exact music files, only difference is the WMP version on my Compaq computer is like 11.0.8 I think.
I already tried the Basic & Full versions of K-lite Codec package & my WMP still only plays about half of my library.
I uninstalled everything Apple related on my Vaio. Then tried to play my unplayable mp3s, & they all play with no errors! I reinstalled iTunes & Quicktime & the whole Apple package thing on their site, & WMP refuses to play like half my mp3 library again =(
Something about iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, or Quicktime makes Windows Media Player not play right or utilize codecs right even though I have WMP as the default player. Only when I uninstall everything Apple related, then WMP plays correctly again.
I noticed that when I have nothing Apple related installed, then when WMP plays the affected mp3s, the application Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE runs from the C:\Windows\System32 folder. But when I have anything Apple installed, then WMP refuses to run that Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE (mfpmp.exe)!!!!! Is there a fix to this?? Something within the Apple files is preventing mfpmp.exe to run which results in the codec error.

Your problem is likely to be with Vista / WMP not so much Apple's iTunes/QuickTime...
1. When you install iTunes (or any other media player for that matter) it will associate the .mp3 mime type to play in that media player. (Why would you want to use WiMP instead of iTunes anyway?)
2. I'm guessing WMP can't launch the executable for some reason if the mime type is not set in Windows for WMP to handle the file type (it should not be dependent on this, but dependencies run deep in Windows, hence the many headaches for users).
3. You should be able to set the mime type for .mp3 files to be associated with WMP in the preferences/properties of either WMP or QuickTime.

5. iTunes should still be able to play .mp3 files even if you associate the .mp3 mime type with WMP, cause it rightly doesn't care about the dependency, although it just won't find the .mp3 files automatically - you'll have to manually add the .mp3 files to your iTunes library if you've associated them with WMP.
6. Upgrade to Win7 or better yet, switch to MacOS and you won't have the problem to begin with.

1. First you will enable it in the settings:
1. Open the properties for the application's build specification
2. Navigate to the Advanced category
3. Check the Pass all command line arguments to application box
To pass the command line arguments to the application and access them in your code follow the same steps as for LabVIEW 7.x.
2. Then you will use two hypens (--) to pass command line arguments to the VI.
When you launch LabVIEW or a stand-alone executable from the command line, you can pass user-defined arguments to the application. User-defined arguments start after two hyphens (– –) surrounded by spaces in the command line. ITunes / Quicktime refuses to install

Ever since iTunes prompted me to upgrade to the new version, I've been unable to run the program.
I've tried everything suggested elsewhere, but cannot get both iTunes and Quicktime successfully installed and working. From a clean install, iTunes exits with error code -3, and the QT standalone installer complains about a driver error.
This is really irritating since I can't access my iPod without iTunes working.
I'm running Windows XP 64, if that makes any difference to anything.

sorry for the delay. i was feeling a bit battered by the day's 0x80040707 events (i'm sure it's worse for you though), so i took a break from them, went to sleep, etc.
... at this stage (as Sim Alan has rightly said off in other threads), folks are caught between a rock and a hard place with this one. there are security issues without KB908531, but there are security issues without QT 7.1 (and indeed, without QT 7.0.4).
here's the information we have on the nature of the security issues for KB908531 (there are some possible workarounds listed in the "Vulnerability details" section):

(i haven't seen any detailed reports on the possible effects of applying that workaround, though.)

ITunes & Quicktime won't open but processes running

Tried to startup iTunes one day for some music before class, the hourglass came up, but no iTunes, looked in the system processes and there it was, just wasn't opening. Uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version 7.4.2 numerous times, some with leaving the application data there, most with wiping out anything iTunes related from my hard drive and trying again. Also tried earlier versions of iTunes, all did the same thing.
Nothing seemed to work, so I just reformatted my harddrive and started to put things on, at first it opened fine, then I added all my music in, and it went to get album art I believe, and I started to sort through my iTunes music folder, I go to right click to sort by name and my whole computer freezes. Now iTunes does the same as is it does before, just the processes open, and then about 2-3 mins later if I don't kill the process my whole computer freezes.
I don't know whether this would be something with my sound drivers or whatnot because it all started happening randomly, and my laptop runs iTunes perfectly fine, same with my roommates desktop (almost identical hardware). Every other media device I have runs fine, VLC, WMP, etc.

I had a similar problem with iTunes not working. Hourglass would come up, then it would revert back to arrow but iTunes wouldn't open. It would appear to be running on the list of processes, but I could not end that process.
I fixed it - or at least it seems fixed - by performing a repair installation of Windows XP. My guess is the problem was with one of the deep system files, which the reinstallation replaced. Can't know for sure, though.

Audition refusing to let my Blue Nessie Microphone collaborate with the software. HELP!

Everytime I try to use my Blue Nessie microphone and I click on the record button, this error message shows up:
"The sample rates of the audio input and output devices do not match. Audio cannot be recorded until this is corrected.
Use the appropriate operating system or audio device control panel to adjust the sample rates of the input and output devices to use the same settings."
That is the problem, I DO NOT KNOW WHICH SAMPLE RATES TO USE FOR MY MIC ON AUDITION! Heck even the correct settings I have no idea what to use!
I don't have the time to experiment with the settings, so do any of you have suggestions? In the meantime, I'll have to use Audacity to use my mic.

I changed the default sound format on my mic's properties on the Sound System settings from the taskbar to 48k (listed as DVD Quality at the end) like you said. Then I opened a new test audio file with 48k as the sample rate in Audition and it works now!

With a Device plugged in - place your mouse cursor over DEVICES - you should see 'show' or 'hide'. Click on 'show'.

NVision not running excel.exe

Hello,
I'm working with Peopletools 8.52 and trying to run an nVision report. The process gets stuck on initiated in Process Monitor and doesn't continue on.
I have run psnvs.exe with the /register option as well as restarted the NT process scheduler, but when I check the Windows Task Manager, there is a single psnvs.exe process running and no excel.exe being initiated.

Are you running on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit? If so, take a look at
E-NV: Windows 2008 64-bit Configuration To Allow nVision To Run To Success In 2-Tier And Web [ID 1206163.1]
and if you haven't already done so, try creating the
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop
directory and make sure the user you specified for the Oracle ProcMgr service has read/write access to this directory. Worked for me on 8.51, not sure if anything changed in 8.52.

SSIS Job deployment does not run my .exe but is described as a success

Hi i have scripted a simple script task in c# to run an exe with the following code
Process.start(filename.exe);
i have also tried using the 'Execute Process task' in the SSIS toolbox.
both methods work when i debug.
However when deployed to the SQL server as a job, the jobs are described as a success but my program does not run?!
The exe file is published from SQL visual studio and the resultant filename is setup.exe which i am trying to run.
Any help pleasE?
I am not using any shared file resources, the setup.exe is on my desktop.

To look in the ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile\ Backups folder to find the Manifest.plist folder, and delete entries for apps that might be causing the problem.
I remembered that a little while ago, I had started getting an error message while syncing and updated app (Sleepmaker or something- couldn't remember which, precisely, but knew that it was a white noise app). So, I went to the Manifest.plist folder, and removed the entries for the couple different flavors of the Sleepmaker app that I had installed.
Then, reconnected the iPhone, and clicked "Continue Restore" once again when it reported that there had been an interrupted restore. This time, it went through fully! Took quite a while (~1 hr) to copy all my media onto the phone, but now it's all there! Hopefully this will help others who might in the same situation...

I am a regular user of I-tunes but recently i dont know why but I got some error in Launching I-tunes. So as recomonded by "Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7" section. I started removing the products. But after removing Quick time, I tried to remove Apple Software Update but while uninstalling it gave error that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." and the uninstall rollbacks.
Please send me a feasible solution to this problem.

Uninstalling the iCloud control panel should allow you to do that folder deletion.

Fix for VBScript Error When Installing iTunes/Quicktime on Vista

With GREAT THANKS to http://www.keathmilligan.net. I was able to fix this problem by performing the following steps:
The iTunes/QuickTime installer will fail with a "VBScript not installed" error on some installations of Vista. I'm not sure exactly what leads to this situation as it does not seem to affect all Vista users, but there is a relatively simple fix:
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories then RIGHT click on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
change directory to your windows\system32 directory
enter the following command:
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
This will re-register VBScript and allow the iTunes installer to run.
After almost pulling my hair out for a month, this worked like a charm and I was able to install iTunes/quicktime with the latest version and get to hear my music again after a month of trying everything. THANKS KEATH
