ITunes + QuickTime update

Get following window message after trying to upgrade to iTunes version 7.0.1: "The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group" ....then "The installation of QuickTime did not complete succesfully. iTunes requires QuickTime".
I tried to delete the older version via the "Add/Remove Programs" way without any success. I just cannot remove quickTime from my computer.
No luck trying to contact technical support.
Have anyone encountered the same problem?...any suggestions?

Hi,
Wish I had the answer to this one since I am having same problem
I have iTunes & QT version 6.5.2 and Now I can't even use iTunes because it tells me I need 7.0.3
I can install older verions of QT by themselfs like 6.5.2 and 5.0 but not with iTunes. Also I find the apple support pages of very little use in this matter.
I have tried many different things from deleting and re-installing iTunes & QT to reg edit and cleaning and so far nothing has worked for me.
The only thing I did a while back was ghost/mirror from a 40G HD to a 160G HD and I am thinking thaT some how the reg files or the QT file tag is wrong now, but I am not sure?
The amount of money we pay for the iPods and stuff you would expect a little better support from apple.

  • After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update, I can no longer access the itunes store and my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?

After installing the latest itunes/quicktime update I can no longer acces the itunes store nad my iphone does not complete syncing. What can I do to fix this?  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled windows updates. I have checked the firewall settings. what else?

The problem is with version 10.4.1.  I had to reload 10.3 to get it to work.  The recommendation from a previous poster worked for me.  Here was their list of steps:
    Go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall
    2.  Uninstall the following Apple programs in the following order:
         a. iTunes
         b. QuickTime
         c. Apple Software Update
         d. Apple Mobile Devices Support
         e. Bonjour
         f.  Apple Appllcation Support
    3.  Reboot PC
    4.  Find, Download and Install iTunes 10.3 (you can find it at FileHippo.com)
If you start iTunes now you will get an error message saying that the current iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes.  To correct this:
    5.  Go to your Music>iTunes folder and delete the "iTunes Library.itl" database file
    6.  Within this iTunes folder find and open the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder and locate the most recently dated "iTunes Library (date).itl" database file.
    7.  Copy and Paste this file back into the iTunes folder
    8.  Rename this "iTunes Library (date).itl" file by removing the date.  It should say "iTunes Library.itl"
    9.  Reboot PC

  • Can Not download itune/quicktime updates. Lost my playlist and half the songs?

I have a 2nd generation Shuffle that works great. Went to download and Itunes/quicktime update from Apple. Got a message saying part of the system needed for the upgard was missing. When I went to my Itunes my playlist was gone. There was a bunch of blank floders. No way to sync the player wihthe computer or download new songs. All I can to is charge my shuffle. Tried to delete and reload Itunes with no luck. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • No function after iTunes/Quicktime update

After restarting my G4 Power Mac when the iTunes/Quicktime update had installed, my screen went to blue and froze. I did a hard reboot and now any program I open quits within seconds and I can't open any of my folders! When I try to open something, everything but the dock (toolbar and desktop icons) disappears and come back in a few seconds. Is this an iTunes issue or is there something else going on?

Try booting in Safe Mode. Hold down the Shift key during startup. If that doesn't do it, try holding down the X key during startup. If that doesn't start it up, I think you need to post over in the forum that applies to your particular machine (iBook, MacBook, iMac, etc.) The pros over there might be able to help. Don't hesitate to post back if you have more questions.

  • What are "Apple software updates"? Where is "iTunes & QuickTime" update?

When starting iTunes today, I got the box asking if I wanted to install 10.4. I clicked yes then got the big box that I've seen many times. It usually has MobileMe, iTunes & QuickTime, and an offer to install Safari. Today, and recently, I haven't seen the "iTunes & QuickTime" update option; it's been replaced by something like "Apple software updates." Today it was version 2.... Previously, I haven't gone ahead with the "Apple software updates" because I don't know what this consists of and it looks suspicious to me. Today, I again quit instead of updating "Apple software."

    Thanks for the reply.
I've had iTunes since 2007 and don't recall "Apple software update" 'till recently. Perhaps the reason I've seen the message several times now, and again today, is that I've not installed it. It would then make sense to prompt me today before going ahead with the 10.4 update. Make sense to you?
Actually, from what I've seen on the forum today, I expect another iTunes update very soon, so I think I'll wait.

  • After iTunes/Quicktime update, no flash in Firefox

    Hi,
I have now several times had the same problem after I updated iTunes and quicktime, the flash objects in Firefox get the question mark.
I did extensive search on this on the web, apple forum and firefox forum and have now found one solution that has worked couple of times for me.
After the iTunes/Quicktime is updated, and you get question marks instead of flash objects.
    Solution:
    1. Close firefox
    2. Go to the firefox plugins directory. Can be found at C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
    3. Remove all npqtplugin.dll files (usually 7 of them, numbered as npqtplugin[2..7].dll).
    4. Start firefox, and test some flash based page.
This solution works at Windows 2000, Firefox 2.x and latest iTunes/Quicktime.

I don't understand, where on my computer is such a Firefox plug ins list.
My situation is similar, but I notice Quicktime/Flash failures on ALL my browsers...I.E., Netscape, Real Player. Isn't this something Apple should be taking care of, having messed up our software with their download?
How do I reverse the download-Quicktime 7.1.5, etc?
    Thanks
    John

  • Rosetta no longer functions after iTunes & Quicktime update

I got off the 3rd phone call to AppleCare (three techs and product specialist -- the least helpful in the bunch by the way) and finally isolated the problem I'm having but the reaction from the AppleCare guy (the last one pretty much freaked) means there is little hope for a quick solution from Apple.
After updating iTunes and Quicktime using OSX software update. I could no longer launch legacy apps that operate using rosetta (i.e MS Office, AppleWorks, JMP, etc.). Additionally, if I go into GetInfo from the finder and click "Open using Rosetta" that app will no longer launch. In both cases the app simply (if clicked from the finder) appears briefly in the dock and then disappears.
When I had AppleCare on the line the guy went to confirm something with me on his machine and was very surprised to find that his copy of MS Word was not working either (his word were something like: "Good Lord, the menus are all grayed out, huh?". At which point I decided there was not going to be a fix. He sent me some articles on Archive and Install, which I may do but I'm hoping not to go that route.
I've got one more symptom that may help others figure out what's happening, which will hopefully mean you can help me fix this:
When I try and launch an app (legacy or universal) from the command line using rosetta (see this for more info) I get: Segmentation fault!
Okay, first would someone out there confirm that this is not happening on their system. Then, one of you brilliant souls, let me know what I can do to fix it. Is there a sneaky way I could bust into a package/install image and install a fresh copy of the rosetta libraries etc? My experience with Segmentation Fault usually points to the executable being broken, but I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert.
    Regards,
    David G.

You won't like this but I figured out QT smashed rosetta soon after installing the ituunes/quicktime updates when quicken wouldn't load...i knew it was one of the major apps that was never released for universal...at first i assumed the apple update had just broken quicken and checked the quicken site, finding no posts...then it dawned on me that the QT update must have damaged the System so I went hunting in my apps for other rosetta-only apps, found an old CD label printing program and it exhibited the same behaviors.
I went to the apple site and the company has not posted any info on the bug, then went looking for a standalone rosetta installer...couldn't find one
Here's the part you won't like: my mac mini is 3 months old. I dug out the os x install disks and reinstalled the system. Then went through and reinstalled system updates. Reinstalling the system killed norton so I had to reinstall that too (no wonder i keep all the installer disks as dmg's on the ministack).
Result of all this, replacing the system, was that Rosetta is now working again.
I then went on to install ram, that went less smoothly and my local geniuses were less ingenious by this point, but that's another story for a paperweight website.

  • Loginwindow (Not Responding) after iTunes & Quicktime update

In order to activate my new iPhone this morning I needed to upgrade to iTunes 7.5 and the corresponding Quicktime update. After a reboot and logging in I was presented with the desktop, the dock and a spinning beachball . . . which still hadn't gone away after 10 minutes.
After a while I tried a few things and noticed that the dock was working, until I ctrl clicked on the finder icon that is. After that the dock froze and I rebooted with a long power button press. After logging again I had the same problem, desktop, working dock and spinning beachball.
This time I hit one of my dock stacks and launched the Activity Monitor, only to discover that a process called 'loginwindow' was Not Responding. On force quitting this everything went away and I was back to the login prompt. I logged in again and found the same thing - I can use all the applications I can get to through the dock but have no finder . . .

  • ITune + Quicktime update question

I am currently using an older version of Quicktime and iTunes because 3 months ago when i upgraded to Quicktime 7 and iTunes 6.03 all my MOV lost sound. So i am wondering if the problem has been fixed yet and it is safe for upgrade.
      Windows XP

I think so, they recently released a major update to quicktime and iTunes is at version 6.0.4.2 now

  • Powerbook can't start after itunes/quicktime update

Leopoard was running fine up till now. I just ran the software update for itunes and quicktime, and now my powerbook g4 is stuck in an endless loop of trying to boot--I get to the apple logo and spinning gears but after a bit it just shuts down and starts over.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

For those of you with this problem . . . here is another solution that worked for me.
Go here and with a very simple change you can get up an running in Leopard again! Follow the instructions in the 7th post down . . . don't worry . . . you don't really have to do any terminal work. From that post . . . " Apparently there is a conflict with a folder called DivXNetworks in the Library/Application Support folder. If you change the name of this folder to DivXNetworks.prev it may solve the problem. It did in my case. I must say that I do not know what affect the change to that folder will create - but so far I have not noticed any issues"

  • Cannot get itunes+quicktime update to install

The main problem is quicktime because everytime i try to install it, it keeps telling me that it cant find my F:\ drive. i don't have one and i never did. anytime i plug in a external drive it reads as an H:\ or an I:\. i tried uninstall the quicktime i had right now and install the new one it still wouldnt work. and now the quicktime is gone i cant even get on itunes.

    Excellent news.
im not going to have to plug in this drive every time i need to update, am i?
(Short answer) You should be fine next time.
(Long answer) The issue happens because there's an entry for the existing version of iTunes in the installation database (for an iTunes file or registry entry) that references the drive that isn't there, and the fact that there's no drive there causes the Windows Installer Service to get excessively confused. But when we put the drive there and do the update, that gets rid of the mucked-up entries in the database. So the next time you do an update, fingers crossed none of the new entries in the database should be pointing at the F, and there shouldn't be any issues on the next install if the F doesn't happen to be there.

  • ITUNES/QUICKTIME UPDATE IS CRITICAL!!!

    Hello folks,
I just updated my new Leopard systems on an iMac G5 to iTunes 7.2 and Quicktime 7.3, and IT CRAHSED MY SYSTEM. It boots, but finder does not come up any more. There is something buggy with it. Up to that moment, Leopard was working fine, and I started to like the new ideas. I will NOT update my other computers.

I couldn't boot after installing the update. I was stuck in an endless loop of trying to boot and restarting itself. There are 3 reports of this so far in the Leopard discussion area.
After rebuilding my directory with diskwarrior, I'm back in business. Good news is that now my ipod mini is recognized. The whole reason I ran the update was that my mini couldn't connect to my powerbook after installing Leopard.
I don't think this update is ready for primetime.

  • Turn off itunes / quicktime update

    hello
i'm running an xp sp2 box with itunes and quicktime installed. is there a way to turn off the update function for these two programs.
    thanx alot
    tim

Assuming here that you're talking about the iTunes and QuickTime internal controls for this rather than Apple Software Update for Windows.
iTunes: launch iTunes, go "Edit > Preferences", go to the General tab, uncheck "Check for updates automatically" and click OK down the bottom of the tab.
QuickTime: two different possible ways. (1) go to your Control Panel, open the QuickTime control panel, click the "Update" tab, uncheck "Check for updates automatically", and click OK. (2) Launch the QuickTime player, go "Help > Update Existing Software", uncheck the "Check for updates automatically" box, and click OK.

  • ITunes/QuickTime update from June 11  - missing files.

Updated iTunes/Quick Time on June 11 per the automatic notification that updates were ready to be downloaded and installed.  Can't open iTunes now.  I get the error message "iTunes cannot run because some of it's required files are missing.  Please reinstall iTunes."  When I d/l iTunes, it partially installs then I get the same error message as above.  Anyone know what's going on or how to fix this?

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.

    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.
Windows is notorious for having "other" issues that make it unstable, we as volunteers helping others can't always resolve those issues.
