Itunes/Quicktime Upgrade Gone Bad HELP.
I am Running Windows XP Internet Explorer. Originally had Itunes I think it was version 4.6 with Quicktime which worked fine. Attempted upgrade to Itunes 6.0.
Needless to say my old version of ITunes is gone. The install seems like it works, but no icon on desktop and no folder located in program files.
Attempted quicktime 7.0 install (Stand Alone) Windows installer interrupted message dispayed at the end of install. No changes maded to disk.
Any help greatly appreciated. I have downloaded music in the M4P format which I can not play or burn to disk.
Thanks alot
Vinny
Yo VinnyD ... yous gotta be from Brooklyn wit' a name like dat!
Anyway, try dis ... here is a post that I added two weeks ago. It includes a solution that worked for me. I hope that it works for you! Good luck.
Hey troubled Podheads,
I was one of the legion with problems in downloading iTunes6 and QT7 for Windows until I tried something (I must say that I am not a pc wizard and I don't know the technical reasons for why the following worked, it just did! So if there are any pc geeks out there, be sure to chime in). Anyway, this is what I did. First uninstall QuickTime if you do have it on your pc. If not, just go to the next step:
Go to START, then RUN. Type in regedit and then click OK. Your REGISTRY EDITOR should open. You should see HKEYLOCALMACHINE in the scroll down menu on the left, with a small box to its left. Make sure that the inside of the box has a negative sign - this will open up the next set of subfolders. Next, make sure that the subfolder, SOFTWARE, has a negative sign in the small box to its left. Next, make sure that there is a negative sign in the box next to the subfolder entitled, Apple Computer, Inc. You'll see at least three subfolders: iPod, iTunes and QuickTime. Click once on the QuickTime folder until it is highlighted and then delete it. You will be asked if you want to delete QuickTime and its subfolders. Click ok and then close out the Registry Editor.
Next, download the stand alone QuickTime 7 at this link (you may have to cut and paste this link to open this website):
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
When you download the stand alone QT7, you may get a couple of error messages (I did), but if you repeatedly click ok (like I did), the QT7 player should load with no problems.
Again, I am no pc geek, but this worked for me and I have gained access to iTunes6 (with video capacity) and my complete library is intact. Nothing like trial and error!! Good luck -- I hope this works for all of you frustrated Podheads out there!

Updating iTunes without upgrading software. HELP!
I bought a Clamshell iBook on eBay and it came with 10.3.9 software already installed on it. I have iTunes 4 and I need to update as much as I can without upgrading the Mac OS X. Everytime I try to enter the iTunes store, it tells me that the store is too busy and to try again later, or that the internet connection is bad. Which I know these are not the cases. It won't even let me load my songs and application on from my iPhone. I need alot of help with this!!!
If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it very much!
Thank you.Sorry, didn't catch the iPhone part. You will need to upgrade if you want to sync your phone. Here's what the iPhone needs:
Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
iTunes 7.7 or later
If you don't have a USB 2.0 port, syncing is very slow and prone to errors.
I'm not sure what your iBook specs are, but OS 10.4 (Tiger) has the following requirements:
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
Built-in FireWire
At least 256 MB of RAM
DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
At least 3 GB of free disk space
You can find Tiger discs for purchase online. Try a Google search. -
I have an Iphone 3 GS, and after upgrading to IOS 5.1.1 all my music and all the apps I had installed are gone. The contacts were reinstalled, but text messages was not. I can't reinstall them from Itunes eighther, as this was this has been done on a new McBook Air, so there is no previous backups here.
The app store does not remember me, so it asks me to pay for all the apps I allready bought. Please help.I found the following discussion that worked for me. All this does is make the install think it's a fresh install, so you boot up, go through the registration process, then once you are at your desktop, you chown the user's home dir and all sub files to that user, and you're done. Make sure to read the entire discussion, as he posted a correction to a typo.

ITunes / Quicktime Abort Error - **please help**
I just purchased an iPod and when I tried to upgrade to the new iTunes program I get the following error when it starts updating the components:
Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion|Uninstall\QuickTime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Then it says iTunes requires QuickTime and rolls back the installation. I installed QuickTime and got the same message...First, ensure that your iTunes library has not been deleted or modified. Go Start->Music->iTunes. Ensure that a file that has a music note and a CD in the background is there that is named iTunes Library. Restart your computer if you haven't since this warning has appeared.
As soon as you click on iTunes, hold down the shift key and a message should come up saying "Choose a Library". Click "Choose Library" and navigate to your iTunes folder if it hasn't already done so for you already. Double click the file that says "iTunes Library" and it should load your library.

I've done this about 10 times, I even went in and deleted it befor reinstalling. No good. It seems that right at the end of installing, that message comes up (cant open, missing files, please reinstall itunes), I click ok, then the install finishes and says installed successfully. I try to open it and same thing.. Then I re-installed Windows Xp,,(Twice) Same,,,I followed all the help files etc,,,"show hidden files & Delete SC file etc,,there was no SC file, the folder was empty,,,I get the same with the Quicktime Player.

10.2 to 10.3 upgrade gone bad, really bad!
Ok, here is the situation. My brother was trying to be kind and upgrade my Aunt's G4 17" flat panel iMac (iLamp) from 10.2.X to 10.3.3 using a machine specific install/restore CD from a 14" laptop. He wasn't aware that you cannot do this. The machine stopped the upgrade at some point as Disk 1 was finishing, errored out, and now won't boot past the grey screen of death.
We have tried it all (I'm 1150 miles away) via phone. Reset PRAM and PMU. Tried booting single user and giving commands that way, have tried booting in Safe Boot mode which results in Kernal panics.
The computer will not obey the c key on boot for any CD except the Hardware test cd, which is passes. We have tried booting holding the Option key, and it does recognize CDs as bootable, but will not actually start up from them. It also shows the Hard Drive but will not boot from it either.
Yesterday, we were able to start up in Target Disk Mode and retrieve all of the family's vital stuff on to the laptop for safe keeping. We tried Disk Utility which found nothing wrong with the HD. It would not let us repair permissions however (I think that is odd) as the button was greyed out.
Now we would just like to start over on this drive, but it won't let us! It will not even recognize the restore CDs the iMac originally came with, taking it back to some version of 10.2.
Any other ideas I haven't persued here? There may be more to this that I have even failed to mention as it has now been a three night adventure. You said you were able to get into disk utility? And you also said you have everything (info) backed up off the drive? Have you tried using disk utility to erase and reformat the hard drive? Maybe try doing a reformat on the drive and create a different partition scheme. IE if it currently only has one partition, create two, reformat it then go back and reformat to a single partition.
One last ? when you reset pram did you let it chime 3 times? Try doing that then immediately let go and hold the c key.
There also could be something wrong with the cd drive. In that case you ( follow my directions exactly DO NOT DEVIATE from them.
Put the restore disk that came with the Imac into the laptop restart the laptop in target mode. With the Imac OFF now hook the laptop (still in target mode) and the Imac together with a firewire cable. Start the Imac holding the alt/option key, this might take a minute or two but eventually you should be able to see the reinstall disk ( I think you said 10.2) select that and hit the straight arrow. Hopefully it should start into the installer. Just make sure when it asks you where (which hard drive) you want to install it to, to select the Imac HDD (you may be able to see the laptop hdd as they are linked together) Don't disconnect the machines until the installation is complete.

W510 bios update gone bad -- help please
Just went through a montly (+/-) update process through System Update.
Updated BIOS in my W510... along with a host of other things.. but from what I've
read i fear its the bios.
all went normally (as it always has).. machine rebooted after update.. stopped at the thinkpad
splash screen. Just hung there. I left it all day (figured it was doing something?) came back
at night, it was still hung.
tried to force reboot.. i got two beeps.. then three beeps.. nothing happened.
every time i pressed power button.. two beeps.. pause.. three beeps.
took out batt / restared .. no screen.. HD spins / fan spins / power light is on.. but machine
seems dead.
Anyone have any ideas whats going on? how to fix? was it the bios update? can it be rolled back?
Thanks in advanceWere you trying to use http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74858 ???
If so, we bricked several machines at the beginning of April and asked Lenovo to remove the update. I see that hasn't been done. Maybe now they will. -
Major iTunes Problem.. Please help me!!!
A few weeks ago, my iTunes suddenly crashed. I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it, but the agreement terms pop up for one minute, then suddenly disappear. It's preventing me from getting onto my iTunes and updating my iPod. What can I do?? I need major help please
-KaitlynThe first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other location. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
If that still doesn't help, then try this:
Bugie: Perform a Thorough & Complete Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes/QuickTime.
Hope this helps. -
all of sudden, I can't launch iTunes as I get a popup saying "iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later". I only have 7.4 currently and the apple site doesn't show anywhere to download Quicktime upgrade. Software Update detects no reqd updates. Help pls??
Here's a link to the QuickTime for Leopard 7.7 installer:

I'm still struggling with being able to sync ipad3 and iphone 4s to itunes after upgrading software to ios 6. I've gone through all the recommendations by Apple and suggestions from other forums and nothing seems to work. Help!!!!!
Sounds like you have a battry issue but don't want to believe it.
If a car was running fine on one tank of gas, then you filled it up with another tank of gas and it began to run funny, one might suspect that tank of gas. But let's just say coincidence blew a valve-- would you think the new tank of gas was the culprit?
BUT WAIT!! It just might have been! The gas could have been of higher octane and put more more strain on the valves; you know, like going from 87 octane (OS6) to 93 octane (OS7) and showing you the engine was on the edge of compromise.
Sometimes you have to go with common sense. If everything else is ruled out, it must be the battery. And if it runs fine one moment in OS6 but immediately ***** in OS7, I'd believe my battery was suspect-- though comfy-- in OS6 but the OS7 showed its true power.
Moreover, if you had the answer-- or didn't want to believe someone's more competent advice-- why did you even call? You've already shown that you don't know much when you asked if you could go backwards after setting up the new OS as a new phone.
Additonally, if you're such the know-it-all, but yourself the $29 battery and put it in yourself. It's a piece of cake.

Just upgraded to ios7 and want to listen to BBc Global news podcast as I do every single morning and it is not there - where have all my podcasts gone? If I had known this would happen I would NEVER have upgraded.. Help!
As of iTunes 11.1 and iOS7, podcast files will no longer play in the Music app on the iPhone (this is very annoying, but that's the way it is).
The two easiest options are probably:
What Apple wants you to do: download and install their free Podcasts app onto your iOS device. In theory your podcasts, including the BBC news one, should sync onto the Podcasts app. This is supposed to "Just work", and if it just works for you, well, congratulations, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case for most posters in this forum.
What I'm leaning towards: for all podcasts in iTunes, Get Info, and change them from "Media Kind = Podcasts" to "Media Kind = Audiobook". That will allow them to sync to the Music app. Then you'll have to arrange smart playlists or whatever to sync those (ex-)"podcasts" to your Music app. -
New Itunes/Quicktime Download Issues - Help!
I had gotten a automatic notice to upgrade Quicktime and Itunes, whioh I did. Needed to update anyway as I want to upgrade my Iphone. Now when I try to launch iTunes it tells me I have a Quicktime Issue and it will not open Itunes. After reading the help index, which tells you to remove Quicktime and reinstall and try again, I get the same error message. Now, it tells me to remove Itunes and reinstall? If I do that what happens to my music, images, etc? Do I lose anything or do I need a specific process to ensure I don't loose anything?
I have 75% backed up but without access to Itunes I cannot backup the remaining 25% before I try this removal and reinstall thing.
FYI- I am running XP. Any thougths, anyone...
Thankshey, i am running xp aswell and ran into the same problem after i had to install the new quicktime to be able to open itunes one day. has anyone gotten back to you with a solution? i do not knwo computers that well and i dont wanna lose all my music!!
thanks -
ITunes Plus Upgrade--No help from iTunes Support
I appologize for this lengthy post. Believe me I have more to the story, but want to keep it as short as possible. Bottom line is I'm looking for help with iTunes plus upgrade please.
My specific problem is getting customer support to upgrade my old iTunes songs iTunes to iTunes plus so I can use them on our new Sonos player. It’s now been almost a week since this issue arose and there has been no help in getting my problems solved. My main problem is that there is no telephone customer support for iTunes. All of the support for iTunes is now done online through emails. That is a huge issue in my mind, but not the purpose for this post.
Here is my problem..
I have two iTunes accounts. Account # 1 was my primary account until 2008/09 time frame when I switched from a PC to Macbook Pro. I have 314 songs from 2006-08 that were purchased on Account #1 that I'm trying to upgrade to iTunes Plus. Account #2 is now my primary iTunes account. The Account #2 songs are all iTunes plus and do not need upgrading. I now have all the purchases from both accounts on my Mac Mini serving as a HTC, but the old iTunes DRM songs cannot be played on Sonos until they get upgraded.
My issue solely relates to my old songs on Account #1. I have been trying to upgrade my account 1 songs since last Thursday. My iTunes store account is currently logged into Account 1 when attempting the updgrade. When I first made the purchase, I got the on screen message that I’d get an email with instructions to complete the purchase. Well three days passed and I never got the email. I also noticed that my purchase of $104 showed up as three “pending” credit card charges on my bank account records. This seemed odd so I called Apple for help. Big mistake!!!!!
When I attempted to call Apple Support I was continually given to “technical support” for either my Macbook or Mac Mini. They never listened to what I was saying. In fact one rep told me I would need to pay the $39 fee for technical support on my issue!!!! Finally, after speaking to three different individuals one of the “tech support” reps was able to contact an iTunes support rep. Note, that I could not speak to them, rather it was strictly apple employee to apple employee. I was placed on hold for thirty minutes while they worked on my issue. After thirty minutes I was told to go to the iTunes store and start over. I went to iTunes store and completed the purchase again. Shortly thereafter, I received an email response from iTunes saying:
Dear Tom,
Your iTunes Plus music upgrade could not be successfully completed because there was a problem with one of the items that was to be upgraded. Please return to your Upgrade My Library page and click Buy and your upgrade should be processed successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your business.
Sincerely,
iTunes Store Team
Based on this email. I went to iTunes store again and tried the purchase….again. I then got the same email response a short time later. I have attempted two other times to buy the upgrades but got no email responses at all. Late Sunday, I called Apple again and also used their online iTunes support page. I got one response late Sunday evening asking a question about error messages, I answered their question by providing them the above iTunes notice. That email late Sunday night was the last communication I've recieved from iTunes support. It’s now three days later and I’m still waiting to hear back from someone at iTunes support. All I want to do is spend 104 dollars to upgrade my 300+ songs, but no one at Apple seems to care.
I am really disappointed in Apple’s customer service. I’ve been a fan of Apple for quite some time, between my wife and I, we have 6 Apple products in our home. The lack of customer support is really disgraceful.
Anyone have any ideas. This is a follow up. Finally, after almost 72 hours, I recieved another email from the original iTunes support representative. According to her, the problem is that one or more of my songs on the account are either not eligible for the upgrade or the file is corrupted and can not be upgraded. In short I cannot use the "Buy All" feature because I will always hit this roadblock. The only way to resolve this, is to upgrade each song individually or select a few songs at a time to upgrade.
I will have to do this until I get the song or songs that is causing the problem. Once I have identified the song(s), I can chose to repurchase them and get a refund. All songs today are at the DRM free format so repurchased songs will automatically be the upgraded file.
So I'll now begin the upgrade of the 314 songs. I guess it could be worse.
Okay, I got an answer and an offer of a refund, but this answer certainly could have been provided three days ago. Am I being unreasonable? -
I have paid for itunes match and have now lost all my music off my iphone except what I paid for from itunes, 964 songs gone into the cloud. Can anyone help please?
Enabling iTunes Match does not delete music from your computer. Why do you think it is now not in the iTunes library if it was before? If all of your music was in the iTunes library then it is also now in the cloud if iTunes has completed it's scan and all the music meets the match requirements. Enable the iCloud Status column in the iTunes browser by switching to Song view and pulling down View > View Options. Select iCloud Status then close the small window. Sort on the new column. Your music should be listed as "purchased," "matched" and "uploaded." Some tracks may be "ineligible." Post back and let us know.

Is XI available on Win 2003 Server
Hi, Does anyone know if XI Runtime installation is available on Win 2003 Server ? The PAM shows that the database for SQLServer is available on Win 2003. However, it does not mention about the ABAP and J2EE stacks. Any information appreciated.
