ITunes / Quicktime won't install - error message during in installation

My computer, a Dell running with Windows Vista, has not been able to have iTunes & Quicktime installed on it in months. I've attempted to install it a countless number of times & tried a variety of things with my computer to install it but it just doesn't work - I get the same error message everytime. I can't even remember what happened to make it start acting so ridiculous.
It always starts out looking good and everything seems to be working pretty well, the green bar filling up pretty quickly, but then the 'Status' gets to about 'Publishing product information' and the error message pops up and I can't install it. It goes along the lines of "A error occurred during the installation of assembly: ..." then it goes on to say 'Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007054F'. Here's a screenshot of the error message with the long whatever on it:
http://i46.tinypic.com/qoesm1.png
I believe I get the same message even when I attempt to download the two software separately (iTunes & Quicktime).
Can any one tell me what needs to be done? I have no idea what to try anymore. All help will be much appreciated. Thank you .
P.S.: If it helps, I can't really reinstall Internet Explorer (removed it when I downloaded Firefox).

Thanks!
(3) And I do not believe I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed on this computer, as I just tried to install it and I received this error message: http://i45.tinypic.com/a3m7bc.png
Okay ... that rules out one possible treatment. Sometimes people with the redistributable installed can get past this by applying a security update for it ... but it looks like the same sorts of problems are preventing it from installing.
(2) And last time I checked my History I had several failures I believe, however now I only see one failed update, that being Update for Windows (KB944036). The error code listed 8000FFFF. Apparently it's an update for Internet Explorer 8.
The other primary strategy we (I?) have for dealing with these is to attempt to treat any underlying issues on the PC that prevent Windows Updates from installing. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that your 8000FFFF is related to your IE being uninstalled, I think we'd probably better try following up on the following document:
[Error when you download updates using Windows Update or Microsoft Update: 8000FFFF|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946414]
After applying those measures, do your Windows update and/or iTunes installation failures clear up?

  • ITunes 10.2.2 won't install - Error message about Windows Installer package

I ran a prompted update on iTunes for 10.2.2 for Windows Vista, and it completely wrecked itself. iTunes would no longer open, and it said that the shortcuts no longer existed.
I have tried uninstalling iTunes and all traces of it, and re-installing it, but keep getting an error msg that says "Problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required could not be run." I even tried a previous version of iTunes (10.1) and got the same error.
    Can anyone help with this?

I had the same problem with updating my itunes. I spent hours trying to figure out how to fix it
After updating my windows 7 and fixing all the "corrupt" files, what seems to finally work for me was this
Go to add or remove programs in the control panel, on Windows 7, just go to start, control panel, and then uninstall a program. Find Apple Software Update on the list, and click on repair. Once that is done, try to download iTunes again and it should work.

  • Question: i upgraded to Lion and now itune upgrade will not install (error message appears)

i upgraded to Lion and now itune upgrade will not install (error message appears)

iPhoto needs to be upgraded in order to work with Mavericks. You can do that via Software Update or the App Store.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
Upgrading iPhoto does not involve your iPhoto Library. Your photos will still be there. But it never hurts to make a backup first.

I've tried this 3 times and get the same result.. please help ! thanks

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 80070BC9, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

some folks have been having some success with pgfpdwife's technique in the following post:
pgfpdwife: Re: Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classic\Quicktime.Quicktime\
note carefully that the technique involves a registry edit. be sure to make a backup of any keys you edit. if you're unfamiliar with your registry or registry editing, head to your XP help and support, do a search on registry, and read through the articles that come up.
if you would prefer not to try a registry edit, let's instead try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look:
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing (if you are seeing one)

  • After installed, iTunes 10 won't start, error message appears

    Hi all,
Could anyone help me solve my problem.
I try to install itunes 10 on my windows vista SP1. After installation, while the application is about to start, there is a message 'the file ituneslibrary.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes'.
Thank you for the solution guys.

    Welcome to AD!
    Try these directions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
The title of the article does not match what you are seeing, but it has worked for others.
    Skip step #2, of course.
In step #7, instead of dragging the file over, I would copy & paste it. That will leave the original in the same spot in case you ever need it again.

  • TS1717 iTunes Library won't play, error message "can't locate file"

I can't play any of the music in my iTunes Library, when I click on a song, I get an error message that iTunes can't find the original file.  How can I fix this?

    Any thoughts?

  • 10.8.5 won't install-error message javascript

I got this error message when trying to update from 10.8.4 to 10.8.5. App update said I don't have any updates to make but I'm not running 10.8.5 and it is listed as a purchased program in the app store.
"OSX updated combined can't be installed on this disk. An error occured while evaluating JavaScript for the package."

Nope. Same error message when trying to install just the 10.8.5 update rather than the combo or the supplemental. Any other ideas?
I can't even find this error message when I search Apple Support pages.
I'm headed for the app store to re-download Mountain Lion which should give me 10.8.5. It is 4.4 GB so it must be the whole thing.

I'm not sure what the problem is with alloc_thread.
But, yes, the installer limitation is because you are using the TestDrive bits.
TestDrive is designed for ease of installation, and many of the installer
options are not available in TestDrive.

  • How do I fix an error message during the installation of Flash on a Macbook running Mavericks?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm getting an error message when installing Flash on my Macbook running the most current version of Mavericks.  It starts to install, then says "Could not complete installation" and the only option that I have to quit the installation.  I have closed all other applications, so I'm at a loss as to what is causing this problem.  Please assist.
    Thanks!

Download the FULL offline installer here: Flash Player 12.0.0.70 (Mac OS X)
Save it (Download Linked File as) and Quit Safari.
Double click the saved file and "mount the DMG" on your desktop.
A window will open with the installer - DO NOT RUN the installer from here!
Right click it or Ctrl+click it and "Show Package Contents"
In Contents/Resources, double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg
    A "COCOA" Installer will open.
Folow the instructions to install Flash Player from there.
Then eject the DMG and you're all done.

I have uninstalled, deleted and cleaned up all files as suggested by Apple and even gone to the trouble of manually editing the registry to delete all Itunes, Ipod and QuickTime references to see if that will sort it, to no available.

  • ITunes/Quicktime won't install

I try to download iTunes and half way through it says that there was an error downloading Quicktime and that iTunes can not run without Quicktime. I have tried installing it a few times as well as trying to download it from filehippo with no luck. I tried downloading Quicktime by itself with no luck. I try to uninstall quicktime completely and I get an error "Fatal Error During Installation" even though I'm trying to UnInstall. All pop-up blockers and security programs were turned off during this, as I have been told that they may block iTunes from installing.
